00:58alla prossima parte del show.
01:00È solo un'esperienza che ci siamo in una live show
01:02e che cosa può farlo.
01:04La cerimonia 2019 è stata l'ultima
01:07l'ultima tecnicamente più difficoltà,
01:08ma il patho di successo è molto semplice,
01:11e ci sono molte difficoltà all'ultima.
01:16La conversazione ogni ogni anno è,
01:19qual'è la cosa?
01:20Qual'è il Dragon?
01:20Qual'è il Dragon?
01:21Cosa significa?
01:34Tecnici,
01:47il intorno di un'ultima
01:50che avevano un'ultima
01:51che rivela in segno alla fine.
01:52Abbiamo questa idea di portare i musici video a livello on stage,
01:56ma come abbiamo avuto l'accomplice,
02:15Holograms, in particolare,
02:45La questione fondamentale,
02:46che non abbiamo capito da rispondere,
02:49ma non abbiamo capito,
02:50ma non abbiamo capito di essere,
03:16in different kinds of creative ways.
03:26Awaken Giants and Phoenix
03:28were all very different genres of music
03:30and figuring out a way to seamlessly transition those
03:33was a challenge in itself.
03:35True Damage is really that next evolution for us
03:37of moving into continuing that narrative,
03:40tying the knot between previous years into this year
03:43and potentially showing more opportunity.
03:46Like now, our eyes are wide open
03:48We're running this world
03:50We're keeping it turning
03:51We're living like giants
03:53Yeah, Giants
03:55We're bigger than Giants
03:56We're Giants
03:58It's about the way we're waiting
03:59We're rising
04:03It's so cute
04:04It was really exciting to think about True Damage
04:08making their debut at Worlds.
04:10It was also terrifying because, as with any song,
04:13you're not always 100% sure if everyone's going to vibe with it.
04:16We really wanted to think about what music would sound like in 5 or 10 years
04:21with a weird mix of languages and sounds
04:24and taking something that's fundamentally hip-hop
04:26but infusing it with a lot of unique DNA.
04:30We had to keep all of this under wraps, what it sounded like, what the performance was like
04:35and we had to sort of trust that players would follow us down this path into a genre that we
04:41hadn't explored yet.
04:43So when it comes to working with certain artists, we really want to reach out to ones that kind of
04:49get it, right?
04:49And are truly invested, understand what we're trying to accomplish
04:52When they feel like they're inhabiting Senna, when they feel like they're bringing Echo to life
04:58Like that is the sweet spot
05:01And overall it's just a cool partnership, a cool experience to do something together
05:04and that's really what it's about for us
05:08So when we had chosen the members of the band
05:10this basically, it became the time of excitement for us
05:13because the opening ceremonies team then had an understanding of what it was going to potentially look like on stage
05:18it's just, that's where all the creativity just starts to explode
05:24We keep pushing the limits of what technology can do for us
05:27but that is in service of where is our imagination taking us
05:31Embracing holograms gave us the opportunity to have this action and reaction
05:35between our virtual performers and our human performers
05:37in a way that we knew was going to be very special
05:40When we first started investigating how to do this show properly in the round
05:45and represent these champions on stage with real live performers
05:49we realized that we needed some very specific technology in order to make that happen
05:54With augmented reality there's always this compromise of like, it's going to look great on broadcast
05:58but is it really that compelling in a live setting?
06:00And this is going to be really special because we don't actually need that layer of technology
06:06through a camera to be able to experience it
06:08There's actually going to be a whole bunch of hollow net screens
06:12which you can see here
06:15This set of services should be invisible to the naked eye
06:19and it will be able to capture our projections on it
06:22In order to make this feel most magical
06:24we needed to hide as much of how it all came together from the audience as possible
06:28To accomplish that, we had to find ultra short throw projectors
06:32which are in a very limited amount in the entire world
06:34The first question was, can we get enough to even do this?
06:39With holograms, if the holograms fail
06:42you just have a performer on an empty stage and there's really nothing else to it
06:47The show was so reliant on the technology
06:50we knew that we needed to stress test it to its max
06:53We got a small test piece that we were able to set up in the LCS studio here in LA
06:58This is the very first time that we've actually put content intended for the actual show
07:03on the technology
07:04Bring out the clothes and we'll see what the clothes look like
07:07and what people look like back there with the stuff
07:08Everyone was so excited to see what this product looked like
07:12because none of us had actually seen it in person before
07:14We learned that lighting was one of the tricks to create the illusion
07:17Something we learned was that if performers were wearing dark clothes or black clothes
07:21they would just disappear
07:22and certain materials were really distracting behind the holograms
07:25One, two, three
07:27One, two, three
07:30In order to deliver a show that really worked
07:33we had to get the best people in the world at every position
07:37It's really incredible all the people who are like legends in their own fields
07:42coming together to tell the story of League of Legends and our characters
07:46through this hologram technology
07:47It's really cool
08:17We set up a full scale hologram test here in LA
08:21If for some reason it didn't work, we were so close to show date
08:24that we really didn't have any backup options
08:26It's very difficult to pinpoint very specific problems with specific pieces of content
08:30without seeing it up there, live, ready
08:33Not having the projectors is showstopper for sure
08:36Like that's not up for debate
08:38Solutions have been found
08:40We did a shoot last night with Duckworth
08:42which was great
08:43It was great
08:44and then we're doing prep today
08:47We're doing three days of work here
08:49and then we have a full shoot day Monday
08:51and I die Tuesday
08:53Yeah
08:54Every time there's wind, there's ceiling
08:56The ceiling is actually moving
08:58This was one of the largest uses of this technology to date
09:02We had so many unique gags that we were trying with the technology
09:06and we needed to make sure that each one was playing exactly the way we expected it to
09:11We were moments away from departure
09:12and all the things that had to get figured out were piling up
09:15We still had to shoot the talent on green screen for their holograms
09:18That is so crazy
09:20That's like the craziest thing I've ever seen
09:22It's awesome, it's gonna be great to really bring it to life
09:25I can't wait to sort of inhabit Camille
09:28This is like reality is kicking in in full force right now
09:30You're in it now
09:32There's no turning back
09:37Yeah!
09:39That's good
09:50You know, this is the most magical stairs I've ever been on
10:03Whoa!
10:04Whoa! Yeah!
10:10It's the moment of truth
10:21In the week before everyone departed for Paris, it was this passionate, frantic rush.
10:28What can we do to make this absolutely the best?
10:31Because we know it can be.
10:35And then on the...
10:36I thought it was okay for it to be...
10:38It's not going to be one meter away. It wasn't one meter away.
10:41No.
10:41I know, but you're telling me that the other one is twice as much as that?
10:47So the front edge is...
10:49We weren't even in Paris yet, and we knew that we weren't going to get the final piece of content
10:53until the day before the show.
10:56So...
11:07We arrived in Paris, and we have seven days to make everything work.
11:12We knew that we were going to have an extraordinarily tight load-in.
11:15In 2018, we had over two weeks in the venue. Two days of tech rehearsal and five days of rehearsal.
11:20Every minute of delay starts to remove rehearsal time.
11:24Our production team worked a heroic 24-7 schedule to get that show loaded in.
11:30It's insane.
11:31It's insane. Everyone is rushing to finish everything.
11:33Everything comes back to how much time will we have to get the creative ready for show day.
11:38We always wish we had more time.
11:45While our main stage is being built, we actually replicated its dimensions in the next room over.
11:49That way, our talent and our dancers could get used to their blocking and actually interacting with the holograms.
11:54It's the first time that talent is working with the technology.
11:58This was also the first time that our choreographers were getting to work with the local Parisian dancers.
12:02It's the first time for a lot of things.
12:11Seeing the True Damage crew practice the song together for the first time was kind of nerve-wracking.
12:17This was a group of artists that come from all over, that speak different languages.
12:21We didn't know how well they'd get along, how good their group chemistry would be.
12:24It's really important that even in this small amount of time, that they learn how to work together really well.
12:30They had to be in sync and we only had a few days to get them there.
12:33We're thinking for today, it would be great to just go in chronological order.
12:36So we're kind of going to go in sections.
12:38And so the more that we are interacting and we're moving in the same way at times,
12:42or at least have moments with the holograms.
12:44Yeah, that's when like you really zoom out and you're like, oh man, this is like all working together.
12:49Crazy, visuals is next level.
12:50You know, I can't wait to be up there and see it come to fruition, come to life.
12:53You know, I'm excited.
12:54It's gonna be beautiful.
12:55Big vibes.
12:56I'm very excited too.
12:57First thoughts.
12:58So we'll see.
13:20All these months and months of planning and the thing that we envisioned over these last nine months
13:28finally comes to life.
13:47Every take we get more confident, more comfortable, but I feel excited.
13:51How you feel?
13:51I feel great, man.
13:52Everybody's professional now.
13:53You feel me?
13:54Everybody coming through, holding that thing down.
13:56Everybody got dance moves and stuff.
13:57We hit that thing going crazy.
13:58Are you dancing too?
14:00Once we get onto the main floor, that's where the chaos really begins.
14:03We need to see so many things for the first time.
14:06We had a lot of fears because we had a lot of things ongoing on stage.
14:10Everything had to go perfect.
14:12If one thing went wrong, if a hologram breaks, if somebody misses their cue, if the lighting is off,
14:18the whole thing kind of breaks.
14:19We needed to see the lighting interact with the holograms.
14:21When and how can the hollow come in and out?
14:24Will the projectors all work?
14:25There was trouble getting the old technology to work with the new technology.
14:29We needed to see the trunk open.
14:30Turns out that it was more complicated than we expected it to be.
14:34There's all of the challenges around broadcasting.
14:36We like the camera angles.
14:37There was content being worked on until the very last second.
14:40There's three pieces of content we need to check.
14:42Three, two, one.
14:43I think we're having trouble hitting the marks and that's really crucial to the show right now.
14:46Why does the spotlight come on when I'm already in my, like, two bars in?
14:50First mark for a third course, cool.
14:54Is it clear that I'm, like, not all the way over and then...
14:58It's alignment, it's not consensus, right?
14:59But, okay.
15:00The magic is showtime.
15:01I think the toughest part this week has just been getting all the content done
15:06and making sure that it looks good and is scaled properly and is interacting with the human.
15:12Valerie sounds great, that's what she wants.
15:14Oh my gosh.
15:14Okay.
15:15Nerves are running high.
15:16Time is running out.
15:17Time is running out.
15:20There are so many things that we want to go right, but we can only push so far.
15:25If the hologram breaks, we don't have a solve for that.
15:28So we hope that the rest of the elements are able to help carry the show in some way.
15:51No, you just got to keep revising until, until you can't anymore, until literally they say stop turning stuff in
15:58because the show is already over.
16:01We've got to stop.
16:03What we see here is what we're going to get tomorrow. The show must go on.
16:20People are super excited. We know today's the day.
16:23We can see and hear fans lining up outside of the building and all of this is for them and
16:27their experience and their enjoyment. We're all very anxious.
16:30Months of work are going to show today like we know everything needs to work perfectly.
16:35There's really no downtime before the show. We are working up until the countdown clock starts.
16:40We're all having this underlying stress of, is this actually going to work?
16:44In the moments before the show, there's a hundred different things that are going wrong.
16:48They tried to open it, then it didn't open.
16:50The trophy case didn't open when we got there in the morning. There were technical issues with it.
16:54We didn't know if we were going to be able to have that be a working element in our show.
16:59Everything that could go wrong with Kiana's ring the morning of the show was going wrong.
17:04Projectors? Let's check. Let's not hold doors.
17:06Holonets were getting unfocused because of the air conditioning in the room.
17:10You know, the natural elements of the world.
17:12Because they are cleaning the floor and they are super close to the screen right now.
17:16No one anywhere near the screen, please.
17:18You just have to accept that you're doing as much as you can and whatever will happen will happen.
17:24Yeah, we are, mate.
17:27Doors are open. Pencils down. This is it.
17:30Nothing more we can do. Here we go. This is the game.
17:36And we're about to watch the last six months of our life's work unfold in a small screen.
17:42It's going to be sick.
17:43Get a beat up gin. It's going to be good.
17:48Stop, Seth!
17:50One chance.
17:53Of course I'm not anxious.
18:03At this point, we've been working for 10 months for a 10-minute show.
18:07And officially, we have to take our hands off the steering wheel.
18:10It's completely out of our control and all there is left to do is watch.
18:34All I'm thinking about is that first hologram instant.
18:38It hits, and you hear the crowd's reaction.
18:42That was a really, really special moment for us.
18:46As much as we've been telling ourselves we knew this would work, now we knew it worked.
18:55Oh, God.
18:56Oh, God.
18:56You're so unaccountable.
19:00That's right.
19:04That's right.
19:06You're so unaccountable.
19:09Sì, sì, sì.
19:23There's the massive what-you-mean graphic on The Hollow, and as much as I love everything
19:28about that performance, nailing that beat in the show was the one that mattered to me
19:31more than any other.
19:32That was such a highly complex moment of the show.
19:35And in rehearsal, we just hadn't gotten it.
19:38It was better than we could have ever imagined.
19:41At the end of True Damage, there's this momentary feeling of relief, like, oh, okay, we got
19:48through that.
19:50And then your brain kicks in, and you're like, oh, there's the Hollow of Phoenix we got to
19:54deal with.
20:07As we're sitting there watching Phoenix, we know that this trophy case moment is coming
20:12up, and that's a huge beat in our show.
20:13The day had started with the case not opening.
20:16You can't unveil a trophy if the box doesn't open.
20:21And I remember the Steadicam move starting to circle around the case, and I had two seconds
20:28that felt like two hours of panic that it actually wasn't going to happen.
20:31You got to open.
20:33You got to open.
20:33You have to open.
20:34That was the last big hurdle.
20:35You got to open.
20:37You got to open.
20:38You did it!
20:39Come on!
20:40The relief and catharsis, because that is effectively the last scary thing.
20:47You got to open.
20:48You got to open.
20:48You got to open.
20:52You got to open.
20:52Okay, so 2020 kickoff meeting, yeah?
20:54Yeah, yeah.
20:57Delivering something like the opening ceremony is, it's so hard to describe the pride you feel.
21:01The reaction, it's showing that all those months are paying off.
21:07We worked for so long, and everyone finally got to see it.
21:10And then immediately kind of sad, because it's over.
21:13We're going to go home and get back to work.
21:15Well, let's do it.
21:17The storm is over.
21:19It is now just enjoying a nice world championship.
21:30Getting back into our normal routine, things feel a little bit quieter and a little bit slower for a while.
21:37We have already begun planning what we're going to be doing for this year's world ceremony.
21:40This is the 10th anniversary of competitive League of Legends, and we need a ceremony that's going to be as
21:48big as that moment should be.
21:49I'm really most excited to explore what else is out there and what else we could bring to the show.
21:55Engaging on these kinds of big creative questions is the high that we all want to keep chasing.
22:03Music is a central force in our shows, and it's something that will stick with players forever.
22:08So I think we're going to carry that over into 2020.
22:11We're excited about the future and all of the different ways we can make the next opening ceremony incredible.
22:16The 2020 ceremony is going to be awesome.
22:19The 2020 ceremony is going to be awesome.
