00:05Ciao e benvenuti per l'Iborian Insider.
00:07Mi nome è Erling Ellingsen e i'm going to take you into the core of Age of Conan.
00:12All right, so it's been four months since we launched Age of Conan
00:15and during that time we've been putting a lot of time and effort
00:17into making Age of Conan an even better game
00:19by addressing the concerns of you the players
00:22and just generally improving on the entire gaming experience.
00:25Now our main focus right now is on the live game
00:28and making new additions and making new improvements
00:31based on what we want to do with Age of Conan
00:33but of course also listening to the feedback that you the players are giving us.
00:37So today we're going to take a short look at some of the new features and content
00:40that is coming into the game in the next few weeks and months
00:42and we're also going to give you an exclusive first look
00:44on some upcoming DirectX 10 features.
00:48Now one of the things that we've been hearing from you the players
00:50is that you want more content at level 55.
00:52So our first big content update is Ymir's Pass
00:55this place that you can see right behind me here.
00:57Now there's a dramatic storyline taking place here.
01:00You have basically an unholy alliance between the Stygians
01:04and the bandits of Atsil who's invading this place
01:06and causing a lot of trouble for the Sumerians living here.
01:08Now we're also adding a lot more Robert E. Howard stories
01:12into the game with this update.
01:13For instance here you can see the Frost Giant's daughter running behind me
01:16and I'm sure that you lore buffs out there know what I'm talking about.
01:20Now there's also these zone-wide earthquakes
01:22taking place throughout Ymir's Pass
01:24that's actually caused by the son of a god
01:26and as a player you will actually have to investigate the causes of these earthquakes.
01:31Now that investigation is actually going to take you into this next place
01:35that you can see behind me here.
01:36This is the amphitheater, a level 60 plus dungeon
01:39that we're adding into the game with this update.
01:41Now in this dungeon you will have lots of new quests
01:44and lots of new monsters that you have to kill
01:45and some new gameplay mechanics as well.
01:48For instance you have to destroy these portals
01:51that are spewing out more monsters.
01:54So there's a lot of dramatic encounters.
01:56For instance here you have the Devourer behind me right here
01:58and you will actually have to use this guy, the Devourer
02:01in order to save this guy, the Frostfather.
02:05So this is basically a good example
02:08of how we're trying to bring more epic storylines into the game
02:11with all the content updates
02:12that we're going to be adding in the next few weeks and months.
02:15So if we look even further down the road of course
02:17you have even more content coming into the game.
02:19For instance you have Tarantia Commons,
02:21a new level 40 plus area to the city of Tarantia
02:24where you'll be taking part in this gang war
02:26going on between two gangs.
02:28You'll be climbing up walls, dropping onto rooftops,
02:31sneaking into people's homes
02:34and just living the life that Conan himself did
02:36when he was a young adventurer.
02:37We're also adding several new high level dungeons,
02:41action-packed high level dungeons.
02:42We have one for the Thunder River area
02:44and we have one called the House of Crumb.
02:47Now based on player feedback
02:48we've really taken our time this time around
02:51to make it more interesting,
02:53to make the dungeons more diverse, more epic,
02:55giving them more scripted events,
02:59adding more traps
03:00and making the boss encounters a lot more challenging.
03:02Another thing we're doing
03:03is that we're adding new high level items.
03:06So you have for instance high level epic items
03:08coming in for all the classes for the first time.
03:11One of the most positive areas of feedback
03:13that we've been getting on Age of Conan
03:14is that it's a fantastic looking game
03:16and right now we're working very hard
03:18on bringing that visual quality
03:19to the next level with DirectX 10 functionality.
03:23Now DirectX 10 is going to allow us
03:24to introduce a range of new fantastic graphical features
03:27into the game
03:28and today we want to give you
03:29a short glimpse of some of those graphical features
03:32that will go into the DirectX 10 version of the game.
03:35Now not all of these DirectX 10 features
03:37will make it in at the same time
03:38as some of them require a little bit more tweaking
03:41and polishing than others.
03:42But today we want to give you an overview
03:44on how Age of Conan will develop visually over time.
03:48Okay, first off you have HDR
03:50or High Dynamic Range Lighting
03:52which is a way for us
03:53to create more realistic sunlight effects in the game.
03:57What we want to do is take the real world sun
04:00and the beauty it adds to our world
04:01and put it into an online world.
04:03So you'll see more realistic ways
04:04of light reflecting off of surfaces.
04:06You'll see this sun bleed effect
04:08that you can see behind me
04:09just making the light in the world
04:10much more realistic.
04:12Another thing we're doing
04:13is screen space ambient occlusion
04:15which for us is a fancy way
04:17of explaining how we're adding
04:18soft shadows into tight areas and corners
04:21based on different light sources
04:23around in that area.
04:24So you can see here
04:24we're going from DX9 to DX10.
04:26It's just like a filter of realism
04:28that is added to the game.
04:31Improved physics is going to allow us
04:33to for instance when you're walking through grass
04:35you'll see grass moving around your character
04:37but even also when you're casting spells
04:39you'll see grass violently rippling
04:41around your character.
04:42But when you're walking through the forest
04:44for instance you'll actually see
04:45trees blowing in the wind
04:47and you'll see the shadows from the trees
04:49moving dynamically according
04:51to the movement of the trees.
04:52We're also adding some really cool
04:53fancy features like this radial blur effect
04:56right here behind me
04:57when you do fatality moves.
04:59Another thing is volumetric point lights
05:02that just adds more size to lights
05:04give them more glow
05:05and when you combine that
05:06with volumetric fog
05:08that you can see here
05:09it just adds a lot more atmosphere
05:11and depth to the different areas.
05:13Improved parallax mapping
05:14is going to allow us to
05:15bring out more details
05:17in the texture surfaces
05:18around your character.
05:19When you're walking down
05:20a cobblestone street
05:22or when you're walking down
05:25a forest path
05:26it just brings out the details
05:27in the ground around you.
05:29Improved specular reflection on water
05:31is going to allow us to
05:32when you see the sun
05:33and the moon moving around you
05:35it'll cast more realistic reflections
05:37on the water surface
05:38but the really big difference
05:40is underwater
05:41where we're adding caustic simulation
05:43that simulates the way
05:44light breaks through the water surface
05:46creating this pattern
05:48on the seabed.
05:49As you can see here
05:50going from DX9 to DX10
05:52it's a staggering difference
05:54that is really inspiring
05:55our content developers
05:57to add even more underwater areas
05:59for Age of Conan
06:00in the future of course.
06:02Now some of these features
06:03will also be available on DX9
06:05but of course they're tailored
06:06for DirectX 10.
06:09Alright so that was some of the things
06:11that you can look forward to
06:12that we're bringing into Age of Conan
06:13in the near future.
06:15But of course we're also working
06:16on other things
06:17things that are important to mention.
06:19For instance
06:19we're working on fixing
06:21the memory leaks
06:21we're working on improving
06:23the gem system
06:24the trade skill system
06:25we're trying to make
06:26sieges more fun
06:27and more stable
06:28we're improving loot distribution
06:30you know all these different things
06:31that will make Age of Conan
06:32a better game.
06:33And of course
06:34yes I know we have been
06:35taking our time with it
06:36the PVP update
06:38is about to come up
06:39but we really want this
06:40to be right
06:40when we put it out there.
06:41But anyway
06:42the first phase
06:43of the PVP update
06:44is about to leave
06:45the test servers
06:46and go on to the live servers
06:47very soon now.
