18:16Ruthie was born with a rare genetic condition
18:19called Treacher-Collins syndrome,
18:21and she was born deaf and hears with the help of a cochlear implant.
18:27From a young age, Ruthie loved to sing,
18:29and says that music helped her through some of the most difficult times
18:32in her childhood.
18:34She was nominated by her brother, Will,
18:36who's in the audience tonight,
18:38along with her mum, too.

35:46And I got a cochlear implant when I was eight, so...
35:48Right. Up to eight, what could you hear up to then?
35:50So, I had a headband, so it was, like, a digital sound.

35:54And then when I got the cochlear implant, it was a lot better.

36:00And that's when you discovered singing, and that's been a real outlet for you?
