00:00We're getting some truly shocking details from the tragic crash at New York's LaGuardia Airport
00:04that left two pilots dead and 41 others hospitalized. The two victims who died in
00:10the crash are pilot Antoine Forrest and his co-pilot Mackenzie Gunther. Now, they worked
00:14for Jazz Aviation LP, which was operating the Air Canada Express flight from Montreal.
00:19The video of this thing is just wow. If you haven't seen it, you literally have to brace
00:25yourself when you watch it. The crash was so violent, one flight attendant who was in her
00:29jump seat was ejected from the plane and was still strapped to it when first responders found her.
00:36Now, if you're watching this on YouTube, I'm going to show you some of that harrowing video.
00:40Seriously, it is hard to watch, so if you don't want to see it, skip ahead 15 seconds.
00:45The video shows the Air Canada jet plowing at high speed directly into a fire engine that was trying
00:51to cross in front of it. The fire truck gets obliterated, tumbling under the front of the
00:56plane. The aftermath shows the front of the jet, and it's just a mangled mess of steel,
01:03completely unrecognizable. Now, listen to this audio from the moment of the collision.
01:07An air traffic controller tried to stop the fire truck, which had been cleared to cross the runway.
01:12Truck one and company crossing four at Delta. Frontier 4195 to stop there, please.
01:19Stop, stop, stop, truck one. Stop, stop, stop. Stop, truck one. Stop. Stop, truck one. Stop.
01:27Go 2603, go around. Runway heading 2000.
01:30Jet 646. Jet 646 to see you collide with the vehicle.
01:35You're just hold position. I know you can't move. The vehicles are responding to you now.
01:39Frontier 4195, I got the word that we're going to be close for a little while.
01:42If you want to prepare to return to the ramp, let me know.
01:45Yeah, we got stuff in progress for that, man. That wasn't good to watch.
01:50Yeah, I know I was here. I tried to reach out to my stuff, and we were dealing with an
01:53emergency
01:53earlier, and I messed up.
01:56No, man, you did the best you could.
01:57One expert with decades of air traffic control experience told us he thinks the controller,
02:02quote, went brain dead for a minute. Now, questions about the state of air traffic controllers
02:07followed swiftly. Remember, we're in the middle of a government shutdown that is having an
02:11outsized impact on air travel. On Monday, the FAA confirmed that air traffic controllers
02:16are getting paid right now and that the hiring of more controllers is ongoing. The National
02:21Transportation Safety Board briefed the press Monday night but was short on answers,
02:25at least in part because some staff is having a hard time getting to the crash site.
02:30An air traffic control specialist spent three hours in a TSA line in Houston
02:35and had still not arrived as of Monday evening.
