00:01Ok and welcome to the Atari Lynx version of Rampage
00:04Now for some reason I thought I'd already done a video of this
00:07But I've just checked my channel and I can't seem to see one
00:10So if there is one, I apologise
00:13Anyway, on with the show
00:15So yeah, this is basically a conversion of the Bally Midway coin up
00:20And it's a pretty good conversion actually
00:22Because while they've had to make a few changes to get the best out of the Lynx
00:28There's quite a lot of nice touches
00:30So for starters, the most obvious is that
00:32Look, you're playing as a completely different character
00:35Compared to what's in the arcade
00:38You've still got George the Gorilla, Izzy the Lizard
00:41I think it's Izzy, or is it Lizzy?
00:43Izzy the Lizard and Ralph
00:45But this is Larry the Ratman
00:47So he's basically the 4th character
00:51And now I'm not sure if you can play 4 player on the Lynx
00:54I'm pretty sure it's 3 player only
00:57But the addition of another character is pretty cool
01:02And Rampage is one of those games where really it was just all about guzzling money
01:07And taking as much cash as you can possible
01:09As a result, it's good fun in short bursts
01:12But you're not going to be playing this for like more than 20-30 minutes at a time
01:17Because it gets fucking boring
01:19Anyway, so as you can see, you're a giant creature
01:24And you're going on a rampage
01:26Through loads of famous cities
01:29And you start off as a human
01:30But you basically take something that you shouldn't
01:33You get submitted to radiation, something like that
01:36And you turn into this big huge monster
01:38So you basically have to go around
01:42Beating the hell out of all these buildings
01:47And basically scoring as many points as possible
01:52And that's pretty much it in that shell
01:55Now the Lynx version is pretty good
01:59Obviously what you can see is that
02:00Unlike the original arcade game
02:02You don't get to see the entire screen
02:04Probably because the sprite on that would have ended up so small
02:07That would be completely indistinct and impossible to see
02:09So by making the screen bigger
02:12You do get some nice hearty new visuals
02:15Which look pretty cool
02:16But the downside is that
02:17It can be quite hard to see what you're supposed to be doing
02:22Take out the helicopters
02:23Your energy is on the right hand side there
02:25And basically as you smash things
02:28Smash windows
02:30You'll basically reveal food
02:32Some stuff you can eat
02:33Some you can't
02:34Well you can eat all of it
02:35But basically it's either going to
02:37Give you energy
02:38Or it's going to basically deplete it
02:40So if you can pick this guy up now
02:42Which I'm going to fail to do
02:43But if you can pick him up
02:44You can carry him around in your pork
02:46And you just get loads and loads of points
02:48Until you decide to actually eat him
02:56I'm sure I've done a video of this
02:57I've got no idea what happened to it though
03:00It's either part of a Lynx compilation
03:02Or I don't know
03:05I don't know
03:06I don't know
03:08And yeah that's pretty much
03:10You know this is pretty much
03:12Rampage in a nutshell
03:13It had a couple of sequels
03:15One of which is available on PSN
03:19And it's one of those games
03:21Which is great fun
03:22When you're playing with a couple of mates
03:23Because you can smack each other around
03:26One particular nice touch
03:28You can smash them off one side of the screen
03:30And then appear on the other
03:31And there's a cool little game you can play with a train
03:34Where you just basically
03:35Backwards and forwards with a friend
03:38Basically train tennis
03:39But as a single player experience
03:42It gets pretty tiring pretty quickly
03:47Well then hopefully this gives you an idea
03:49Of just what a slickish conversion this is
03:53Nice visuals
03:55Decent sound
03:57A good rendition of the arcade gameplay
04:01And you know another decent conversion
04:04For the Atari Lynx
04:06So this is Darren Jones from Retro Gamer Magazine
04:10And I'm back with more videos
04:11Very very soon guys
04:13Take care
04:14Bye
04:35Bye
