00:26This is Frenzy on the Colecovision
00:29No relation to the Hitchcock film
00:31Why is this game important?
00:33Because it's the sequel to Berserk
00:36One of the greatest video games ever created
00:39And Frenzy
00:41Frenzy is even better than Berserk
00:52It's not often that a sequel is better than the original
00:55The Empire Strikes Back comes to mind
00:58Evil Dead 2
00:59Aliens
01:00Well, that's a close call between Alien and Aliens
01:02But Frenzy
01:03Frenzy is brilliant
01:05And adds complexity to the gameplay
01:08As well as keeping the simplicity
01:09Of what made Berserk so much fun
01:24Created by Stern in 1982
01:26Frenzy saw its way onto the Colecovision
01:29In 1983
01:30And not very many other game systems
01:33This is not available on the Atari 2600 or 5200
01:36You can't get this for the Nintendo
01:38I think the ZX Spectrum got a version of this game
01:42Frenzy is easily worth buying a Colecovision for
01:49If you've played Berserk
01:51The controls are identical
01:52What's interesting is that I've read in articles
01:55That Eugene Jarvis, creator of Robotron 2084
01:58Actually tried to improve the controls of Berserk
02:01For the Robotron control scheme
02:06Or improve upon the control scheme
02:09I should say
02:09Which is a decision I agree with
02:11In fact, I always find the controls of Berserk
02:13And Frenzy to be the most challenging aspect of the game
02:16Because if you could fire like Robotron
02:18It actually wouldn't be that difficult
02:19But you can't
02:21You can only fire in the direction that you move
02:27Which makes the game quite challenging
02:29And Frenzy is an appropriate title for this game
02:31Especially when you play on the harder difficulty settings
02:34On the Colecovision
02:35The enemies come at you from all directions
02:38They shoot at you
02:39The shots can bounce off the walls
02:41There's some differences between this and Berserk
02:43The walls can't electrocute you for one thing
02:45So you can't run the robots into the walls
02:47But they can shoot each other
02:49There's those really cool sections
02:51In the middle of the board
02:52Every, I think, four levels
02:53There's like a factory
02:54There's a giant Evil Otto
02:56And oh boy
02:57You do not want to shoot Evil Otto
02:59When the big daddy Evil Otto is watching
03:03He gets very angry
03:05And very bad things happen to you
03:12I like the complexity of Frenzy a great deal
03:15And one of the things you immediately need to do
03:18When you start a new level
03:19Is to ensure that you have an escape route
03:26After a certain period of time Evil Otto will come on screen to kill you
03:29And if you spend all your time trying to shoot the bad guys on screen
03:33And haven't found yourself an escape route
03:34It's easy to get cornered
03:36And horribly terminated by Evil Otto
03:40Another major difference here is that you can shoot Evil Otto
03:43When he comes on screen
03:44If you shoot him three times
03:45He goes away
03:46But then he comes back even faster
03:48Stronger and more determined than before
03:51But you do get bonus points for shooting him
03:53So it may be worthwhile to hang out by an exit
03:55And just try to blow away Evil Otto a couple times
03:58To rack up some points
03:59But watch out
04:00If you shoot him two or three times
04:02He comes back at lightning speed
04:23The first part of the review
04:24I was playing on difficulty setting one
04:26On the ColecoVision
04:27Which I found to be a bit easy
04:29But it's also good to get started
04:31If you're just picking up this game
04:33And learning to play it
04:34Difficulty settings two through four
04:35Are much more challenging
04:37I'm playing at difficulty level two
04:39For the remainder of the review
04:40Things generally move faster
04:42Which of course turns the whole thing
04:44Into more of a frenzied assault on your senses
05:02If you enjoy Berserk at all
05:04Then you owe it to yourself
05:06To check out Frenzy
05:08This game adds so much complexity
05:10To the already outstanding gameplay of Berserk
05:13Without ruining it
05:14That it's simply a must play
05:17And comes highly recommended
05:20Definitely worth picking up a ColecoVision
05:23Just for this game
05:24And there's a whole lot of other awesome games
05:26On the ColecoVision
05:27So it's not like
05:28There's just one good game on the system
05:30You can also find the game cartridge
05:32Out there online fairly easily today
05:35The simplicity and frenzied action
05:38Of the gameplay
05:39Combined with a somewhat frustrating control scheme
05:42Makes for a truly exhilarating game
06:18I think it's a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit
06:19of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a
