00:31When people say, hey, is Space Siege, you know, Dungeon Siege in space?
00:37You know, absolutely not.
00:40Right out of the gate we thought, oh, let's take our existing technology.
00:43That died right away.
00:44We completely threw out our graphics engine.
00:47We rebuilt it from scratch, taking all the latest technologies and putting them to work
00:51to create a really spectacular visual experience.
00:55We got rid of the multi-character party and we said, this is about Seth Walker,
01:01an individual who's saving humanity and making these tough choices.
01:05We'd like to think of it as all the good things that we learned while doing Dungeon Siege 1 and
01:102,
01:10but with all the brand new ideas that really get us excited about RPGs moving forward.
01:18The way that we are telling the story in Space Siege is pretty dramatically different
01:23from what we had done in the Dungeon Siege era.
01:25We've given a name to the main character.
01:27We've given a voice to the main character.
01:29The main character is going to speak a lot his mind
01:32as he carries through the entire course of the events.
01:36The sci-fi realm is just ripe with all kinds of things we hadn't experimented with before.
01:42The types of interactions that you'll have,
01:45the ability to use technology,
01:47and the traditional things that we've seen in a lot of different media,
01:50particularly the movies.
01:51We were really excited about the multi-character party dynamic in Dungeon Siege.
01:56What we found was, is that it was hard for a player to invest in just that one avatar,
02:02that one character which they tried to make their alter ego,
02:06or the representation of themselves in the world.
02:09By coming back to one character, Seth Walker,
02:13we actually have seen these clouds really disappear,
02:17and now we're revitalized, and we realize that there's tremendous power
02:21in having a single character to focus on.
02:24Going with a single predefined character,
02:26number one, allows us to have a lot of ability to focus on the appearance of that character,
02:34make him vary all of his animations and everything that he does.
02:38We can very, very well customize it,
02:40whereas in the past, we had to worry about whether it was going to be male or female,
02:45or dwarf, or anything else in the Dungeon Siege examples.
02:48A predefined character buys us a lot with this game.
02:51One of the key things that buys us is the ability to give the character a voice.
02:55We know that Seth Walker is a person.
02:58He reacts to things in a very specific way.
03:00His interactions with other characters are a really important part of telling this story.
03:06It clicks together really nicely.
03:08I mean, we're not out there waving a flag saying,
03:10we came up with all these ideas.
03:12We're doing what good artists do,
03:14is to take the best from the things that we've experienced in our life
03:19and roll it up in a fresh way
03:22and to tell a new story with components that we know people will really enjoy.
03:27We'll be right back to you next time.
03:27We'll be right back.
03:27We'll be right back.
03:29We'll be right back.
03:30We'll be right back.
03:30We'll be right back.
03:30We'll be right back.
03:30We'll be right back.
