00:10Il FALLOUT
00:10In Fallout, e poi in Fallout New Vegas in particolare,
00:12we really wanted to have sort of a lot of groups
00:14that people could interact with.
00:15Factions are really important to us.
00:17We didn't want to make it something
00:18where it was black and white,
00:19where you have a small group of good people
00:21against a small group of bad people.
00:22It's this very complex mixture of these different people
00:25and these different factions.
00:26The player has a lot of control over what he gets to do
00:29in the New Vegas area.
00:30He gets to influence what happens to an entire region
00:33and in order to have that kind of influence,
00:36he needs to side with one of the factions
00:37and sort of decide where he tips the balance.
00:41It's all about war,
00:42and that's what Fallout have been about, is war.
00:45And so how we're really showing that
00:46is war between these factions.
00:48We want the player to sort of have that hesitation
00:50and they're like,
00:51where do I really stand with these organizations?
00:54Like, is it really the right thing to back X, Y, or Z?
00:57And even if I go off on my own,
00:58what does that mean for everyone who's living in the world of New Vegas?
01:02We have three primary factions,
01:05one of which is the New California Republic.
01:07Which is this big sprawling government
01:09that's gotten too big for its own good.
01:11It's so big, it can't control its own territories,
01:14it can't police its own laws,
01:16it certainly can't protect its own citizens.
01:19On the other hand, approaching from the East,
01:22looking to lock horns of the New California Republic,
01:25is this huge army of slavers called Caesar's Legion.
01:29Which is this terrifying war band of slaves
01:34that has come from out of the Grand Canyon area
01:37that is just conquering everything in its path.
01:40NCR and Caesar's Legion are sort of stalemated
01:43at the Colorado River and at Hoover Dam.
01:45Hoover Dam is one of our signature locations in the game,
01:48and to be honest, it's what everyone is fighting over.
01:52It's still able to provide power for part of the region,
01:54which is its big draw.
01:56Of course, Mr. House is playing into it as well,
01:58because Mr. House doesn't want NCR to win ultimately
02:00because he doesn't want them to take control of the Strip.
02:03But that's not going to happen,
02:04because you're going to work for me.
02:06The general idea is that we have the three major factions,
02:08Mr. House, NCR, and Caesar's Legion,
02:11but then there are all these sub-factions like the Great Khans,
02:13the Powder Gangs, the Kings, the Boomers,
02:16the Followers of the Apocalypse,
02:17and the player can go to those groups and try to shift alliances.
02:20We want the player to experience those factions.
02:22We want them to know what politics are at stake
02:24and what ideologies these organizations represent.
02:27So when they choose what factions they want to work with,
02:30it's based on something more than just a gut,
02:32their good, their evil reaction.
02:33So if you support Caesar or if you support NCR
02:36or if you help the Great Khans or the Kings,
02:38it's going to make a big difference.
02:42You can decide, you know what, I don't think any of you
02:45are really particularly well-suited to be running this place,
02:49so I'm going to fix that.
02:51That's where you essentially are either the active champion of Vegas
02:55or you basically just said, it's anarchy now.
