00:00Right now on Fast and Loud.
00:05Richard was losing his mind.
00:06He loses his mind over everything.
00:08Hot Rod Hunter Richard Rawlings might have to eat his words.
00:11Did I let my alligator mouth overload my tadpole ass?
00:14After agreeing to a race against Big Chief of Street Outlaws.
00:19All right, Big Chief, and I'll be there.
00:20Just as master mechanic Aaron Kaufman calls it quits with Gas Monkey.
00:24I'm already out the door.
00:25And left the monkeys on their own.
00:27Coming in hot.
00:27To build a race car unlike any they've built before.
00:31We can get there. We got some smoke under the hood, I'll tell you that.
00:34Now the heat is on.
00:35It's serious. I mean, these guys ain't jacking around.
00:37Yes.
00:38As the monkeys throw everything they've got into their Challenger build.
00:42This motor costs more than my house.
00:43While Aaron faces a challenge of his own.
00:46Racing against an impossible deadline.
00:48We're gonna be all the way down to the wire.
00:50To take on another set of Outlaws.
00:52It's going down.
00:53It's time to get fired up.
00:55Ha ha!
00:56Because this time the Gas Monkeys are in the fight of their lives.
01:00And there's no guarantee they'll come out in one piece.
01:06He had to do that, didn't he?
01:31Daphne!
01:32What? What?
01:33Get all the monkeys in here.
01:35OK.
01:36Got to show them what we're up against.
01:38Y'all remember how this party got started, right?
01:40You know, some fan decided it'd be cool to see a challenge
01:42between the Gas Monkey guys and the Street Outlaw guys,
01:45and, well, one thing led to another.
01:47All right, Big Chief, Gas Monkey never backs down
01:49from a challenge, so you tell me when and where,
01:51and I'll be there.
01:52Richard, I hear you.
01:54If that's what the fans want to see, we're down to race.
01:57It sucks you won't race us on the street,
01:59but meet us at Fontana in six weeks,
02:02and you better get fitted for your fire suit, big boy.
02:06Are we in trouble?
02:07Well, sort of.
02:08I mean, we're up against this.
02:11So that's the Street Outlaws, and that's Big Chief.
02:14Mmm.
02:16It's pretty serious.
02:17I mean, these guys ain't jacking around.
02:19I'm just doing my homework researching these boys from Oklahoma,
02:21and I'll tell you what I found.
02:22They're fast.
02:24At least they look fast.
02:25I'm sure they're very fast.
02:26Yeah.
02:27That's what they do for a living.
02:28Yeah, I'm sure they're very fast.
02:30So I'm keeping the heat on the guys
02:31to make sure this build gets done with enough time for testing on the track.
02:35Respect that those guys are quick, man, you know what I mean?
02:37Yes, they are.
02:38But don't underestimate us either.
02:41It was kind of a shocker when Aaron quit on me
02:43and left the race car build short-handed.
02:45Like, he quit?
02:46He just quit.
02:47Aaron Kaufman just walks in and quits.
02:49Not only are we down one master mechanic,
02:51but Aaron was maybe gonna drive this car.
02:53So while I know my way around cars, drag racing?
02:56Well, it's not a skill set that I have.
02:59Rumor has it the big chief is upset about me not getting behind the wheel.
03:02And the way I look at it is he is a licensed NHRA driver.
03:06And since there's no mention in the rules as to who has to drive the car,
03:09well, who better than my licensed NHRA driver, Alex Laughlin?
03:12Let me tell you about the rules because I printed them out.
03:15So it has to be a Vintag car.
03:17It's an eighth-mile standing start.
03:19It has to be what they call a metal car,
03:20which is a steel roof and steel quarter panels,
03:23500 cubic-inch motor, 2,500 curb weight or better,
03:27and we've got six weeks to build a car from scratch.
03:30Those are the rules. They're agreed to.
03:32Matter of fact, tonight, I'm gonna post these on my Facebook,
03:34and you're gonna be able to see, bam,
03:36who rode them and where they came from.
03:38Get you some.
03:40Yeah.
03:41Apparently, I did too awesome of a job on the Hemi
03:44because Kenny said it was so hopped up
03:45he needed time to tear it apart for fine-tuning.
03:47Pit crew worthy now.
03:49Yeah.
03:50While the motor's getting worked on,
03:51I'm doing my best to make sure we don't bet.
03:57All right, so can we win?
04:00Absolutely.
04:01You see them racing them, but you don't see them building them.
04:03Well, we can't underestimate, though.
04:05Chief's fast, so we gotta figure it out,
04:06and I need a car that'll win.
04:08We can stop talking and start building. Let's go.
04:10All right, get out there, build this fast car,
04:13and we're gonna go try to win.
04:14Well, we're not gonna build a slow car.
04:16We'll build a fast car fast.
04:18We build every car fast.
04:21Yes.
04:26Texas doing it big all the time.
04:27Fast and loud all the way.
04:29Hands down, fast and loud.
04:30I'm gonna have to go with Street Outlaws on this.
04:33They got the experience,
04:34and they really know what they're doing.
04:42Come in, Lola.
04:43What do you think?
04:44You like it?
04:46Oh, yeah, I know.
04:47We're missing a couple odds in this.
04:49So it's been a couple of weeks since I parted ways with Gas Monkey,
04:51but somehow I'm back in a very familiar place
04:55on another incredibly tied deadline.
04:58What's up?
04:59What's going on, man?
05:00It started when I got a visit from a couple of Street Outlaws,
05:03Farm Truck and Asian.
05:04How you doing, man?
05:05How you doing?
05:06Turns out they weren't all that happy
05:08about being left out of the Outlaw Gas Monkey Showdown.
05:10So we thought, hey, why should they have all the fun?
05:13We want to do a build-off against you.
05:15We could have an autocross course.
05:16We could have a drag race.
05:17What's the deal on the stakes?
05:18We should just run for pink slits.
05:20Yes, 100%. Let's do it.
05:21Okay.
05:22So I picked up a 95 BMW E36 M3
05:25and stripped off everything I didn't need.
05:28Who are you, plastic?
05:29I started making a list of the things that I do need
05:31to make this into my kind of racer.
05:33And here's the rub.
05:34Although I'm using a modified LS engine
05:36that I had sitting in my garage,
05:37almost everything else has to be ordered.
05:40What was the deal with the, uh...
05:41And even with John's help,
05:42I'm still waiting on most of it.
05:45The cinder and the other fuel parts.
05:47Tomorrow.
05:48The gaskets.
05:49Yeah.
05:50What else have you been working on?
05:51I was putting the front suspension on
05:53minus the springs
05:54so that we could, uh,
05:56set the fenders up tomorrow
05:57when the wheels come in
05:57and probably start cutting some tubes.
06:00We're still short the barbs, you said?
06:02Yeah.
06:02Okay.
06:02My plan is to start on the roll cage tonight,
06:04but there's not a lot I can do
06:05until I get more parts.
06:07So I figured this might be a good time
06:09to take a second
06:10and scope out how my competition is doing.
06:12How come we don't hear ?
06:15Something's gotta be wrong.
06:16Step out of the closet.
06:17Well, if they race the same way
06:19they operate a cell phone,
06:20I'd say advantage Aaron.
06:22Yeah, how close are y'all
06:23to getting your car done?
06:24Y'all moving along?
06:25Oh, we're already driving it around.
06:28Well, that's impressive.
06:30We just got back from lunch at heart.
06:32It's getting deep around here.
06:34Yeah.
06:34What, the BS?
06:36I wanted to make sure
06:37that we were still racing for titles.
06:39We're not scared of you.
06:40Well, that's good.
06:41We're probably going to bring some car wax with us
06:44because we want it nice and shiny
06:45when we take it off your hands.
06:46Yeah, hey, we're going to want it nice and clean.
06:49No, dude, we're pacing ourselves.
06:51It's going to be a good match-up, man.
06:53We're going to give you guys a run for your money.
06:55Excellent.
06:56That's what I wanted.
06:56I wanted to hear we were going to have a race.
06:58It's going to be beers versus skins.
06:59Oh, okay.
07:02Sounds good, man.
07:03We'll catch you later.
07:04We'll be out there ready to race with no sleep.
07:07I can guarantee you that.
07:08And we'll be in the same boat, I'm sure.
07:10See ya.
07:12Well, that didn't give me much intel, but I do know this.
07:15If I want time to dial it in before I head out to Cali,
07:18I need to have a finished car in two weeks.
07:22That means I need to take care of anything that I can now
07:24because pretty soon I'm going to have a full plate
07:26and not much time to eat.
07:40So this is the rear end Richard bought just in the anticipation of the race car.
07:45Okay.
07:45Well, at least he gave us somewhere a base to start with.
07:47And the main reason we chose the 513 gear is once we did the math,
07:50knowing the RPM that we want to cross the eighth mile line with,
07:53we've got a two-speed transmission,
07:55and when that thing goes into high gear,
07:57the math told us we needed a 513 with a 36-inch tire.
08:01So this is what it's going to take to leave the line
08:03and still cross without, you know, blowing the motor up.
08:05Kenny put heavyweight gears inside the housing,
08:07which is critical for us
08:08because we're going to be hitting it with 3,500 horsepower all at once.
08:11And if you don't have good gearing,
08:12you're going to shred the thing before you ever leave the line.
08:14How fast are we going to get?
08:15How fast?
08:16Oh, probably somewhere in 190 mile an hour.
08:18It's close to 200, probably.
08:19Yeah, we're talking.
08:20I think we can.
08:21That's awesome.
08:22Yeah, that'd be, if we get there,
08:23we've got some smoke under the hood, I'll tell you that.
08:24All right.
08:24I'm excited.
08:25Well, we'll get this thing apart and get all the new parts in,
08:27and we'll start there.
08:28Okay.
08:28Sounds good.
08:29Cool. I'm going to grab some tools.
08:30Okay.
08:32Here she comes.
08:33Here we go.
08:34Got it?
08:34Yep.
08:35All right.
08:36We're swapping out what's called the third member.
08:38This is also known as the heart of the drive line.
08:40This is where you transfer the 3,500 horsepower from the engine
08:42to the wheels and then to the ground.
08:45The engineering, you can tell how much heavier load this thing can take.
08:48This specific third member is called a 513.
08:50This is a reference to the diameter of the ring gear inside.
08:53It's designed specifically for racers,
08:55and it can handle the enormous force put on it by a dragster engine.
08:58Yeah, this is a nice piece of equipment here.
09:00I think that's exactly what we needed.
09:01We've got to keep moving on all fronts if we're going to meet Richard's deadline,
09:04giving Alex the week he needs to test drive the car on a track.
09:08So you guys haven't done, like, a whole bunch of just straight-up race car builds?
09:12Honestly, not.
09:13You know, the Dart was the closest thing we came to that,
09:15and we weren't going anywhere near 200 miles an hour.
09:17This is a whole new beast for us.
09:19This car is unlike anything we've ever built before.
09:21I mean, we're professional hot rodders, but amateur race car builders.
09:25All right, man, I guess this is as good a time as any to get this thing in.
09:28Just remember, we ate our weedies this morning.
09:30Yeah.
09:31We're going up against the fastest street racer in the country.
09:34We need every advantage we can get.
09:35All right, I'm going to have to jack up quite a bit, so you just...
09:38Okay.
09:38I'll stabilize it.
09:39Ready?
09:39Yep.
09:40Yeah, just what you're doing, just more.
09:42Yep.
09:43Oh!
09:44Hey, we're done.
09:45All right.
09:45Yep.
09:45Well, that takes care of that.
09:46Now we just got to hope it stays together, because even though Richard said it's okay to spend his money,
09:51when you actually do it, it really gets him upset.
09:53Good to know.
09:55Coming up on Fast and Loud.
09:57Coming in hot.
09:58The monkeys wrestle with 3,500 horses.
10:01Down a little bit.
10:02Oh!
10:03Pretty much just been staring at this car for two weeks.
10:06And Aaron's BMW build gets a major boost.
10:09We got some big stuff.
10:21All right, we got the motor ready to go in now that we've got the compression changed.
10:24This thing is so nasty.
10:25You know, and Richard was losing his mind, because he thought, you know, we're talking three,
10:28four, five extra days.
10:29He loses his mind over everything.
10:31I know.
10:31Let's get this thing stabbed in.
10:33Cool.
10:33We know everything's good there now, so we can continue getting the transmission and all
10:36that stuff on.
10:37Hook it up, let's drop it in real quick, and then we'll take it from there.
10:40Let's do it.
10:40Who's driving the forklift?
10:41Go for it.
10:42Me?
10:42Yeah, why not?
10:43Okay.
10:44Maybe that was a bad idea.
10:45Sounds like a good idea to me.
10:46It's pretty clear that Richard really wants to win.
10:49He spared no expense on this specialty engine.
10:54This motor costs more than my house, so...
10:56I know.
10:56Dude, I know.
10:58Um...
10:58Forward.
10:59Yeah.
11:01Onward to the car.
11:03Where you need to be right now.
11:04Getting in hot.
11:04All right.
11:05Bring your whole forklift towards the car, if you will.
11:07Okay.
11:08Six inches.
11:09Six inches, Mike.
11:09You should know all about six inches.
11:10Shoot, I wish.
11:12Okay, straight in, Mike.
11:14Good.
11:15All right, you can take it down now, Mike.
11:16Down.
11:18Hold on.
11:19Take it slow.
11:21Down a little bit.
11:23Oh.
11:23Where you at now?
11:24You want to go up?
11:25Hold on.
11:26Nope.
11:27You want to go down?
11:28Up.
11:29Down.
11:30Down.
11:30A little bit.
11:31Up.
11:32Down.
11:33Front.
11:33Forward.
11:34Hold it.
11:34Up.
11:35Pause.
11:36Backwards?
11:36I told you.
11:37We need a more comfortable seat.
11:39Here.
11:39We don't know what Chief is racing with, so our strategy from the beginning has been,
11:43whatever will get us the most power to the ground fastest.
11:46We're betting this Hemi is going to get us there.
11:49That's it.
11:50All right.
11:50We're down, Mike.
11:51Don't forget about Kenny's blower.
11:53It's all about getting off the line faster than the other guy.
11:55And a supercharger is exactly what we needed.
11:58What the **** is that, dude?
11:59This is how we're going to carry the blower over to the car.
12:01Why don't we just...
12:02Is it a swing set?
12:03I don't know.
12:04You can do whatever you want with it once we hit the blower on the car.
12:06But it costs way too much for you to be playing with right now.
12:08This doesn't make any sense, this thing.
12:10It's a little wobbly.
12:11How much is this thing?
12:13Way more than we make.
12:14With drag racing, you have three options to boost power by forcing air into the motor.
12:19Nitrous, turbos, or blowers.
12:21Nitrous uses pressurized nitrous oxide injected into the motor.
12:24Turbos take engine exhausts to spin turbines to force air into the motor.
12:28Kenny's choice is a screw blur, which forces air down into the engine by way of two screw-like turbines.
12:33The power is immediate and his preference on his pro race cars.
12:36I don't understand this contraption.
12:38I think you're fascinated with it.
12:40We know how hard it would be to reach.
12:41It's kind of weird.
12:42Yeah, let's take it back behind the car so it's out of our way.
12:45This is really exciting.
12:46We have never built an engine like this before.
12:49Man, that's one hell of a blower.
12:52Looks like a whole lot of power there.
12:53Yeah, a lot.
12:54I think we have so much power, they're going to have to tune it down to get it to hook
12:58up.
12:58Hey, let's hope so.
12:59Yeah.
12:59If we want to win this race against the street outlaw guys, we've got to have this kind of power.
13:03Well, we've got to take the tape off from underneath it, too.
13:06Well, we're not running it yet.
13:07This is why you paint.
13:22So, it's delivery day at Casa Kaufman.
13:24Finally.
13:25I've pretty much just been staring at this car for two weeks, which is basically due to having virtually no
13:32parts to build with.
13:34Rock and roll.
13:37Yeah, that's sweet.
13:39Thank you, Nish.
13:43Yeah.
13:44A little bigger and a fender, isn't it?
13:46A little bit.
13:47That's the reason these aren't welded on.
13:48But we've got sheet metal, we'll fix all that.
13:52I might have gone overboard a little bit on the rubber, but we still don't even know what kind of
13:57race this is.
13:58And I'd like to keep my options open.
14:00I got 15 tires here.
14:02Golly, that is a lot of tire.
14:04Oh, I got another set inside the truck.
14:07Holy crap.
14:08So, I got two sets of NT01s, and I got a pair of 555R drag radials.
14:12For the rear, yeah.
14:12I pulled in the NT01s for any autocross applications, and the drag radials are just about how much rubber I
14:18can put on the road.
14:18Well, I guess let's get the big dumb ones out of here, and the 555s and the other set, so
14:23that we can send the wheels and get them balanced up.
14:26I love days like this.
14:28There's somewhere between Christmas and moving day.
14:31And the fun doesn't stop when the sun goes down.
14:34Finally got some big stuff.
14:36Looks like about everything we need to get the motor fired up.
14:38We finally got all the Holley parts.
14:41My wiring harness, my intake, fuel rails, coils.
14:44I've got my bell housing, my clutch.
14:46So now it's just time to start putting all the pieces of the puzzle together.
14:49Problem is though, I've got like, I don't know, about a month's worth of work to do the next three
14:53days.
15:07Holy .
15:08Why in the world does anybody live up here?
15:11Dude, we're in the middle of nowhere again.
15:13There's nothing here.
15:14Look, there's a house in the middle of a field.
15:16We are literally in the, like, frozen armpit tundra of the world.
15:22For a while now, I've been searching everywhere for my favorite car I had in high school.
15:26A red 78 Trans Am, 6.6 liter, 4-speed, power windows, power brakes, T-tops, gold bird, gold wheels.
15:33The shizzle.
15:35I think we passed it.
15:36Now that combination is really hard to find.
15:38So when I got a call out of the blue the other day from my old buddy Dave Hall saying
15:41he found one,
15:42I grabbed Dennis and hopped on a plane out there, lickety split.
15:45We missed it again.
15:47If y'all don't remember, Dave is the guy who helped us track down the Smokey and the Bandit car
15:50a couple of years ago.
15:51And if he actually managed to get his hands on a 78 Trans Am with all those options, he's my
15:56new best friend.
15:56Sorry, Dennis.
15:58I'm just stoked.
15:59I mean, if this is the same car I had in school, that is just wicked.
16:03It's freezing out here.
16:04And if I came up here for not the right car, I'm gonna be pissed off.
16:08Wow, he's got a big shop.
16:10This is actually the worst time for me to be away from the shop because I'm leaving the monkeys unsupervised
16:14on a build with no budget that's bleeding money.
16:16Woo, here we go.
16:17But Dave said if I don't come over and check out the car now, like right now, it's gonna be
16:21gone.
16:22And considering I've been looking for one for over three years, I wasn't about to take that risk.
16:26Phew.
16:28It's freaking cold and miserable.
16:30Who lives up here?
16:31I don't know.
16:31Holy cow.
16:33I thought you just had a Trans Am shop.
16:36Holy crap.
16:36You might have to be my new money friend.
16:42What's up, Dave?
16:43What are you guys up to?
16:44Next time we go to dinner, you're buying.
16:46My name is Dave Hall with Restore Muscle Car here in Lincoln, Nebraska.
16:50You probably shouldn't have brought us up here.
16:52We are known as one of the top Trans Am restoration shops in the world.
16:55Man, as soon as we walked in the building, this is one of the nicest shops I've been in.
16:59This is my high school car right here.
17:0172 455 HO four-speed.
17:03Dude, that's rad.
17:04So that's actually the car you drove in high school?
17:05Yep.
17:05He has like 100,000 Trans Ams in here.
17:09That was the start of the Trans Am right there.
17:11The one on top's got 79,000 one-owner four-speed Super Duty.
17:16This is a 455 four-speed car out of California that I just got in recently.
17:20This is freaking ridiculous, man.
17:23This warehouse is incredible.
17:24I don't know how many millions are in here, but it's more than one.
17:27All right, that's enough.
17:28Let's talk about high school.
17:29Where's my car?
17:30Over in the building.
17:31You got another building?
17:32Yeah, it's in the north.
17:34We're doing something wrong.
17:35Yeah.
17:36Are you kidding me?
17:38I want to see what I used to drive.
17:41I paid 4,500 bucks for mine in 1986.
17:45Are we doing the age before beauty thing?
17:47Yeah, y'all are old.
17:49There she is.
17:50Wow.
17:51Ha ha!
17:52Ridiculous.
17:53Coming up on Fast and Loud.
17:56I'm ice skating for you.
17:58Richard's got Trans Am troubles.
18:00He's turned on the lights.
18:01We gotta get out of here.
18:03And later, the Challenger goes off the rails.
18:19I want to see what I used to drive.
18:21It's not easy to find.
18:22It's rarer than we thought it was.
18:24Well, we can't find one.
18:25We're at my buddy Dave Hall's shop in Lincoln, Nebraska, on the hunt for my favorite car I had in
18:29high school, a red 78 Trans Am.
18:31I've been hunting for one of these babies for over three years, and Dave claims he's got one in this
18:35building over here.
18:38Boom!
18:38Ha ha!
18:39I love it!
18:40Wow.
18:41There she is.
18:43So he opens the door, and I'm like, yep.
18:46The elusive red black four-speed T-top car.
18:49Holy cow.
18:53Boom!
18:54This is a nice car.
18:56Ridiculous.
18:57That's the first time I've seen one of these cars since I had one.
19:01This is freaking so rad.
19:03So we pride ourselves on being able to find anything, right?
19:06We could not find one of these.
19:11God, it smells just like the car I had when I was a kid.
19:14So how'd you find this?
19:15A good buddy of mine found it out of California, and he'd had it in storage for quite a few
19:19years.
19:20And he called me up, and I'm like, I think I might have a home for it.
19:26I think everyone built a handful of these.
19:28It's got power windows, too.
19:30Did you see that, Ar?
19:30It sounds good, too.
19:34This is rad.
19:35Can I take it for a drive?
19:36Sure.
19:37I'm gonna need my hat for this.
19:39It's cold.
19:39You got a hat?
19:41Don't get it dirty.
19:43Oh, yeah.
19:44I said, don't get it dirty.
19:50Let her rip.
19:51Tate her chip.
19:52Little donuts.
19:52Woo!
19:54It's like ice dancing in a bandit.
19:56I'm ice skating for you.
19:59Does it feel like high school?
20:01Yeah, it does.
20:05One good thing about ice is stuff.
20:14Whoa!
20:15I get in the seat.
20:16I'm like, you've got to be kidding me.
20:18Just big hog leg up there.
20:20You can slam in through all four gears.
20:22You're gonna crash your own car.
20:24Look at that.
20:25There's a cop right there.
20:26Do a donut.
20:32You didn't even see him.
20:34That is awesome.
20:36You literally didn't see that.
20:38Oh, no, he did.
20:40Hurry up.
20:41He's turning my lights.
20:42Get out of here.
20:44That might have been a bad idea.
20:46It worked out okay.
20:47He just turned on his lights, like, you know, politically saying, hey, don't do that.
20:51I'm saying, he didn't see us.
20:53He's like, yeah, I did.
20:54Well, we're almost home, man.
20:55100 more yards.
20:57This thing is rad, dude.
20:58I'm buying it.
20:59I don't care what it costs.
21:00I mean, it feels exactly like I'm 18 years old again.
21:04Okay.
21:05Drive good?
21:06So much for negotiating.
21:07You can tear this guy's head off.
21:08What do you think this should go for?
21:11You know, in all reality, if I was to probably market this car, I'd probably market it somewhere in that
21:1430,000 range, give or take.
21:16So, how about, jeez, I want to go 20 grand.
21:20You won't go that, will you?
21:22That's kind of tough.
21:2312?
21:24Did I go too high?
21:25Golly, dude, it's just, you kind of got me over a barrel because you know I want it.
21:29You know I've been looking for it, but.
21:30Well, I started out thinking it was going to be somewhere in the 30s.
21:34I know you guys are good friends, and I was looking for the car for you.
21:37I think we could probably work out something.
21:39I really want this car, but it's not actually worth 35 grand.
21:42Dave's taking a page right out of the old Richard Rawlings playbook and jacking up the price because he knows
21:46I've got sentimental attachment.
21:48But no one beats old Tripp at his own game.
21:50That's why I came prepared.
21:52Well, you know we have something that you want.
21:55I'll let you do this to you, because he's the guru.
21:57When we told you that we couldn't find this car, you told us there was a car that you couldn't
22:02find.
22:02If you remember the conversation three years ago.
22:04I do.
22:05You said, well, I can't find a 455 Starlight Black four-speed car, non SE.
22:10We not only found one, it's at the shop.
22:14Oh, nice.
22:14That's right.
22:15That Starlight Black 76 Trans Am that Dennis and I picked up in New York the other week.
22:20Dave's been looking for one of those for as long as I've been looking for one of these.
22:22Now it's time to pull a little Trans Am Ninja on Dave.
22:27How about 25 grand?
22:28We hang a number at 25 grand on this because I need this car.
22:32Okay.
22:33That sounds like a pretty fair price to me.
22:35I can't believe you found that.
22:36So we got the deal done.
22:3725 grand for my car.
22:38Dave's going to come down and check out our 76 Trans Am.
22:41All right.
22:42Well, then the next time I see you, you are going to be in Texas.
22:44Sounds good.
22:45That is a fair deal.
22:46It's a great price for the car.
22:48Could have easily got 35 grand for it, but he knows that that's the one I've been looking for.
22:53Woo!
22:54You got tequila?
23:07Come on, battery!
23:11Oh, come on.
23:12Oh, don't do this.
23:15Well, I'm here.
23:16Well, look who the cat dragged in.
23:18How are you, sir?
23:19What's up, man?
23:19How are you doing?
23:20Good.
23:20Good.
23:20When's it got me done?
23:21Uh, like yesterday.
23:22What's going on, bud?
23:23Hey, man.
23:24How are you?
23:24Good.
23:24Good.
23:25Good.
23:25Good to hear it, man.
23:26Like John, I heard John telling you we're sorely behind, which is pretty much right on schedule.
23:30Yeah.
23:31We're coming right down to the wire, trying to get this car ready for my showdown with farmtruck
23:35in Asian.
23:35And I'm at least a day away from being able to fire up the engine.
23:38So I put out an SOS for anyone who could come give an hour or two to try and help.
23:43John's working on getting the serpentine system.
23:45I'll get the headers put together.
23:47And then after that, start on the gas tank.
23:49I can do it.
23:50Excellent, man.
23:51Hey, thanks for coming out and helping us.
23:52I got no problem.
23:53Yeah.
23:54High five.
23:55I've already been burning the candle on both ends for several days now.
23:58So I'm pretty much running on fumes.
24:00I'm going to toss that header up there, okay?
24:01Can you just hold it in place for me?
24:05Oh, oh, oh.
24:07That's it.
24:08It's really hard knowing my bed is just 30 feet away.
24:11But this car has to be on a trailer in less than 48 hours.
24:14So if I snooze right now, I'll lose.
24:17Potentially one of the most difficult gas tanks to install.
24:21Looks really nice.
24:23That stuff smells good.
24:24And it hurts good for you too.
24:25But as you've no doubt seen many times before,
24:28I like to make things as difficult as possible,
24:32preferably on a deadline.
24:47Why is everybody standing around?
24:48I want to see it.
24:49It's a big moment.
24:49Is it going to go down for real?
24:51Yeah.
24:51We're getting real close, man.
24:52We got our new engine wired up,
24:54so it's time to crank her over and see what we got.
24:55We've run the valves.
24:56We've set the timing.
24:58We've got oil in it.
24:59I guess, is it going to run and are we going to win?
25:02We're fixing to find out.
25:03Dude, we got a lot of money in this motor.
25:05I need this thing to work.
25:05What are you doing?
25:06Getting in.
25:07It takes off.
25:08I want to be safe.
25:10You realize the wheels ain't on the ground.
25:11I don't care.
25:12Of course, we're going down the track.
25:13I expect the wheels to be at least this high.
25:15It's real possible.
25:16It's real possible.
25:17Let's hear it.
25:18Let's feel it.
25:18Okay.
25:19Turn the fuel on.
25:20We'll see what this thing sounds like.
25:22Moment of truth.
25:23Here we go.
25:35There's only one word I can think of when I hear that motor.
25:38Woo!
25:38That's the blue flame of glorious winds.
25:47Now that's a five!
25:49Yeah!
25:50That is awesome.
25:52You know what he said?
25:52Whoa, they're going to lose.
25:55Woo!
25:56Racing's easy.
25:58We all need flames out of our exhaust.
26:00Golly, man.
26:02We're rooting for you guys, Monkey Garage.
26:04We're rooting for you.
26:05We know.
26:06We know you're going to beat the crap out of those guys.
26:09I'm with Team Fast and Loud.
26:11This is not their first rodeo.
26:14They've done this before.
26:16Coming up on Fast and Loud, Aaron faces a big fail before even leaving home.
26:22I need everything to fall into place, or I won't make it at all.
26:25And the Challenger build faces disaster.
26:36What former child star is a four-time winner of the Toyota Pro Celebrity Race?
26:55The answer is D.
26:58In addition to three wins as a celebrity, Alfonso Ribeiro also won as a Pro in 2015.
27:07I'm on Fast and Loud's team.
27:09So as much as I love the 405 and the Street Outlaws, Big Chief, get ready because Richard's coming fast
27:14and loud.
27:15Get you some of that.
27:16Woo!
27:21Hey, Aaron.
27:22Give me a battle plan.
27:24Exactly what you want from the fenders.
27:26Because we're making it so much wider, then we got to take it so the top of the factory inner
27:29fender, basically bring it all the way up to that level there.
27:32And then, like on the back, you know how the, you see where there's that spur hanging off there?
27:36That can be brought straight to the ground.
27:38Okay.
27:39So, I was scheduled to be loading my car onto a trailer tomorrow.
27:42But as I sit here right now, there's a real possibility that that won't happen.
27:50I can leave later, but every hour I delay is one less hour I have to test the car on
27:54the track before I actually race.
27:58It's a good start.
27:59Right now, I've got Webster carving out room in the wheel well for those enormous tires I'm utilizing.
28:04I got a feeling we might have to go higher.
28:07Maybe.
28:08We'll find out in a second.
28:14And as soon as I can, I've got to jump in and finish the wiring.
28:18I can't even fire the engine until that's done, so I'm going to have to do some automotive triage to
28:22speed things along.
28:23I don't know, that kind of bothers me.
28:24I just got to make clearance for big tires right now.
28:26That's the only thing.
28:27So, it's priority one, get them to go on the car.
28:29Priority two, make them look like they belong there.
28:32Okay.
28:32We're still on one.
28:34You know?
28:36It will take at least 24 hours to drive out to California.
28:39So, at this point, I need everything to fall into place, or I won't make it at all.
28:55Let's see.
28:55What?
29:22So here we are at Texas Motorplex
29:24down in Ennis, Texas, fixing to test the car.
29:26I mean, this is it.
29:27We're finally going to find out what this bad boy can do.
29:30We've been building this car over the last, like, 25, 30 days.
29:33So I rented the track out here at the Motorplex for the day,
29:36and we're going to make as many passes as we can.
29:39And then we've got to get the thing on the truck,
29:41get it stickered up, and get it out to California.
29:44So test day, what's the schedule?
29:46What do we do first?
29:47We'll get it set the timing.
29:49The computer's going to take us a little while to get set,
29:52and then we're going to bust this thing off here in about an hour or so,
29:54and make a maiden voyage down the track.
29:56I'm really excited to see what it'll do.
29:58It's a lot of blood, sweat, and tears getting this car here today.
30:01I mean, we've never really built a race car of this caliber,
30:03but I believe we've got a really, really competitive car,
30:06very, very fast.
30:07And tail to the table will be when we pass the finish line.
30:11All right, well, here's the big day.
30:12We bust our ass.
30:13It is a car once we put the parts back on it,
30:16but all we've got to do is go faster than the other guy.
30:19Let's do it.
30:19I think we can do it.
30:20All right.
30:20I'm excited.
30:21Let's do it.
30:22Have fun.
30:22I'm ready.
30:32Here, I'm going to turn on your A.C.
30:38Ready to rock, bro?
30:39All right, guys.
30:42Doesn't sound happy.
30:44Sounds like a grumpy old man.
30:47This point has been a long time coming.
30:49We put a lot of man hours into this in a quick amount of time.
30:53To see this thing even just start up, do a burnout, and get down the track, I'm excited.
30:57I'm ready.
30:59We're going to get a couple of initial runs to gather some data for the computer, and then hopefully make
31:04a full pass.
31:05I will say that I'm a little bit nervous on how it's going to go.
31:09We really have no idea what's going to happen with this car when we first let off the trans brake
31:13and hit the gas.
31:15So, anything can happen.
31:17Honestly, as long as the car goes straight, I can't complain.
31:20All right, you ready?
31:21Lock me up.
31:34Yeah!
31:36Suck it!
31:39We just did, you know, our first test burnout.
31:42Got the car down the track about 100 yards or so.
31:44It's not tracking right.
31:46This thing, my steering wheel's like this.
31:49It's all over the place.
31:50Alex said the car felt pretty good, except for the steering's way off.
31:53So, we're reclocking the steering, and then we'll start making some more passes.
31:56It's a cheap-ass steering wheel.
31:58That's the actual idea.
31:59I don't know a whole lot about drag racing, but I'm pretty sure going straight's part of it.
32:02We're good.
32:03Power on.
32:08The more that you test, the more the car's going to be set up, and the faster that car's going
32:11to be.
32:12What happened there?
32:13Hi, it's just hot.
32:14I mean, we just got to back the car down.
32:16We got way too much power right now.
32:18We've got a lot of power, so this is why we're here.
32:20All of these are normal things that we have to work through, especially when this is the first race with
32:24a new car.
32:29I can't watch anymore.
32:30I mean, I'm not a professional racer.
32:32That's not what I do.
32:33I'm the money guy, and I don't need to be standing around, hovering around,
32:36and worrying about every single thing.
32:37This is a real-deal race car.
32:39I leave it to the experts.
32:40They know what's at stake.
32:42Get back to the shop, try to make some money to pay for all this.
32:44I'm sure we can handle it.
32:46Don't be scared.
32:48I ain't scared.
32:49It's just money, man.
32:51Yeah.
32:54Throughout the day, it's a big learning curve.
32:56Things have been a little bit disappointing.
32:58Every time we fix one problem, we find another, but we've got to keep pushing.
33:04Here we go.
33:07This is going to be the last pass of the day.
33:09This is our last shot to get some good data.
33:40This is our last shot.
33:41Coming up on Fast and Loud, the monkeys must recover from a test-track disaster.
33:47No, no, no.
33:47He had to do that.
33:49And Richard tallies the damage back at the shop.
33:52We could have a big problem.
33:59All these street-out-loud guys have their nicknames.
34:02Big Chief, don't think he's that big.
34:04Murder Nova, don't think he's ever murdered anybody.
34:07Charles has kind of already got one.
34:08It's sleaze.
34:09That's what we call him.
34:10So he can be like super sleaze, tough sleaze, something like that.
34:13Tony, slowpoke Rodriguez, because that dude moves super slow.
34:17Mike Coy, maybe the balded wonder or something.
34:20Because that's really what he's got going on.
34:22Jeremy, I'd probably call him dopey.
34:24Hmm.
34:48He had to do that.
34:50It's all right.
34:51We're going to have to work on tomorrow.
34:52It's okay.
34:53Yeah.
34:56Gosh, damn it.
35:01All right, you get to work on tomorrow now, Brandon.
35:07I'm fine.
35:09Very low impact.
35:11It didn't hit...
35:11I didn't even see you burn off good before I saw you get square.
35:15Yeah, it didn't hit hard.
35:17Dude, it just...
35:18It was perfectly straight, and it just...
35:21Dude, I don't know what happened.
35:23It just totally just spun around.
35:25Man, I just can't even believe this.
35:26Turned it off, didn't it?
35:27I've never hit a wall in my life.
35:29This just absolutely sucks.
35:30Let's see if we can push it forward here and see what we got.
35:33It was just an absolute accident.
35:35This is something that happens in racing.
35:37I hate it for everybody.
35:39Boy, this is a pile of...
35:41Oh, yeah, it broke the mount on that side over there.
35:43Did it?
35:44Yeah, it's just...
35:45The whole bar is just thunk like this, hung over.
35:49It sounds like the car shipped her right when Alex hit the smooth part of the track,
35:52and from there on, it was like skating on ice.
35:55The damage caused by the wall shifted the whole rear end over,
36:00and what that means is the point where the rear end's attached
36:03actually broke off, so it kind of flopped over.
36:05All we can do is pull the car off the wall,
36:07kind of check out what's going on with it,
36:08and see if it's even possible to get it up on the trailer.
36:11Probably the most damage, actually, is right here.
36:13It caved the whole quarter panel in right here.
36:15When it hit, it shoved the door forward,
36:18which caused it to pop up right here,
36:20which caused it to jump out from inside of the fender right here.
36:23This is not the setback we needed.
36:26We were on track, and now,
36:27who knows how much damage we're going to have to fix?
36:29Who knows if we'll even make the race?
36:31I'm just going to work out.
36:32A lot of work.
36:33Yeah, I mean, it's just ridiculous.
36:35We won't really know anything until we start pulling panels off
36:38how much actual mechanical failures happen.
36:41It's just a really big disappointment, you know what I mean?
36:43Nobody wants to see our car wrecked.
36:44Dude, you could really tell, like, right about here
36:46is where it just started to veer off.
36:47I mean, this is, I guess, the point of no return.
36:52We're going to try to ascertain, you know,
36:54how much damage was actually done to the car.
36:56There's a few mechanical things that I saw maybe broke.
36:59Honestly, I'm actually glad you're okay.
37:01It could have been a lot worse at this point.
37:03I'm just hoping that everything's going to be okay
37:04as soon as we get back to the shop, you know.
37:08This car has to be done for that race.
37:10So what do you think Richard's going to think?
37:12Oh, man.
37:13I'm so nervous.
37:14I know, right?
37:15He's sitting in the car going,
37:16Oh, my God!
37:16I know.
37:18Seriously.
37:33So it's early morning,
37:34and we've got to leave California really soon,
37:36and the car's wrecked.
37:38A lot of yellow on there.
37:40Yeah, that courtesy of that wall.
37:42It looks like it's a little more than cosmetic to me.
37:45I've got some marks on the tires and the wheel itself.
37:47Did we hurt the rear end?
37:49We broke the mount.
37:50That holds the rear end in place.
37:54It's not locating the rear end anymore.
37:57Charles showed me where the rear end had come unhinged,
37:59so we could have a big problem.
38:01If we've got a twisted frame or something like that,
38:04it's unfixable in our time frame.
38:05We could just be out.
38:06What's the quick fix?
38:07Just bang it out?
38:08Well, we can try banging it out,
38:10but I would also call and see if they've got a quarter available.
38:12I don't think that we have time to worry about a quarter,
38:14and I don't really give a what this car looks like
38:16as long as it goes down the track fast.
38:18This is a race, not a beauty contest.
38:20Hey, man, it may be faster to put a quarter on it.
38:23Let's just check availability on one.
38:24Find a quarter, find a solution, beat it out.
38:26I don't care.
38:27We've got to be at the track in 48 hours.
38:30Why can't he wreck his own car and not mine?
38:33Let's get this thing blown apart and figure it out.
38:34Okay.
38:41Check it out.
38:49We went with Koi's plan,
38:51and right away we got ourselves a fresh quarter panel in.
38:54We could have beat the quarter panel out,
38:55but then we would have had to body work it
38:57or it would have just looked like crap.
39:00Luckily, we were able to get the quarter panel quick
39:02and get it on pretty quick.
39:03This part doesn't suck so bad anymore.
39:10Oh, my God, I got heavy.
39:11Mike and Tony got the quarter panel on really quickly,
39:13which helps us a lot.
39:14Push, Tony.
39:15I am.
39:16I need a whip.
39:17Screw you.
39:21You'll never listen to me.
39:23Now we can get the car over to the mechanic's side
39:25so we can button up all the loose ends.
39:30We need to get the car up in the air
39:31so we can get rid of the tire that hit the wall.
39:36Take this out and take a look
39:37and see if it's straight or bent or whatever else.
39:40If by chance this wheel is bent,
39:42you know, we've got one day to find one,
39:43which is next to impossible.
39:44So right now, a little stressful time.
39:51Well, that sucks.
39:53You can see it real good on the side wall.
39:54Yep.
39:56It didn't take long.
39:57Spinning that wheel, you can see how it's just wobbling.
39:59Wheel's bent.
40:00It's going to have to be replaced.
40:02Can't go down track with a wobbly wheel.
40:04I've already made a phone call.
40:05We've got a wheel being located right now.
40:07If we have to have it shipped to California,
40:08that's what we'll do.
40:09It'll be in California.
40:11All right.
40:12Did we figure out everything that we need to fix?
40:14We've got to order another wheel.
40:15When it hit the wall, it obviously bent that.
40:17Okay.
40:17Axle's good.
40:18The rear end housing.
40:19We've got to weld the reinforcement back
40:21to hold it in place.
40:22But other than that,
40:23everything's coming together real nice.
40:24All right.
40:24So how long before I can have this thing
40:26ready to go on the trailer?
40:28Probably late tomorrow.
40:30Did that work?
40:31Yeah.
40:32I mean, it's going to have to work.
40:34We don't have any choice.
40:45Let's get it loaded.
40:53I don't think we're going to end up
40:54with a real beautiful car at the track,
40:55but as long as we win, that's all that matters.
40:58Are we going to make it?
40:59Yeah.
40:59Are we going to be able to race?
41:00I don't know.
41:01But I damn sure ain't just going to not show up.
41:03You're in.
41:04Wheel of chalk.
41:05All right.
41:06See you in California, brother.
41:08Busted our ass to get this car done.
41:10Man, I just hope it's going to be enough.
41:14Okay.
41:16So right now, we don't have a full test,
41:18and we've got to get it all the way out to California.
41:21We're going to have a little bit of test time there.
41:22Hopefully that'll prove up,
41:23but it's anybody's race now.
41:31We're going to have to get it all the way out of the way out of the way out of
41:33the way out of the way out of the way out of the way out of the way out of
41:33the way out of the way out of the way out of the way out of the way out of
41:33the way out of the way out of the way out of the way out of the way out of
41:33the way out of the way out of the way out of the way out of the way out of
