02:08We're here in Nevada at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
02:12This track opened its doors in 1972 and it is 15 miles north of the Las Vegas Strip.
02:20It has been redesigned over the years and tonight it will host our eighth event of the grade eight series.
02:26Here's how it works.
02:27If you win the grade eight, you get 10 points.
02:29Plus, you also get $10,000 if you runner up, you get seven.
02:33And if you make it to the semifinals, you will get three.
02:36Those points go towards an individual championship that will be worth $100,000 at the end of the season.
02:43Kai Kelly's coming into the event with a commanding lead, but Giuseppe and Axeman are trying to catch up.

05:19It is my absolute favorite place in the world.

05:22I love the energy here.
05:23We're in the grade eight.
05:24A win in the grade eight, it would mean a lot.
05:26It would solidify our position.
05:28It would get us out of, I think if we're in like fifth place and move us up to third or fourth.
05:32And make the win for the grade eight championship a little more obtainable.
05:37And it would make me feel like I could actually reach it rather than just,
05:40you know, sitting on the bottom like, oh, I'm never going to get there.
05:56So we are in Las Vegas.
05:58We've been here many times before street racing, but not for no Pep Kings event.

06:04We're still on the west coast and we're struggling with keeping our motors alive.
06:09Like a lot of people say, yeah, nitrous cars got it easy running in Denver.
06:12But no, not really.
06:13That's not the case.
06:16We're like running them on the edge, literally.
06:22She was choking.
06:23The motor was choking so damn bad, you know.
06:26This part ain't easy.
06:29Hope we don't have to be slinging motors like this.

06:36We wanted to save a fresh new motor for this race.

06:40We got a brand new motor in it that was sitting under the bay for a little bit.
06:44Our goal is trying to find a tune up that will work for these conditions.
06:48And we're struggling with that right now.
06:50So we also got to be fast.
06:52You know, we could probably get away with not running it as hard,
06:55but that's not going to win races either.

11:04It wasn't exactly like the other day, it cut off.

11:06And this time when it kind of laid down a little, I said, let me just be safe.

12:54Going into it, I knew I had to cut a light and hold it to the floor because I knew his
12:58going to be fast and it just worked out for me, honestly.
13:01Like I say, me and Giuseppe, we're pretty tight.
13:03So like I say, it's no fun beating somebody that's like a brother to you.
13:08But still, at the end of the day, I wanted that win.
13:10When we rolled in, we both wanted that same thing.

13:22Tried to shake the tires and I had to lift and he flew right behind me.

13:25I think it made a couple hundred feet, 250, 300 feet.
13:28You got to look at the car, see why it keeps shaking there.
13:30I mean, I know the track's a little tricky, a little different than what we're normally
13:33running on.
13:34So go back, look at some data and go from there.
13:38That time, usually when I drive, I just relax and just, like I say, just enjoy the ride and
13:44feel the G's and concentrate on that.
13:46That time, I was concentrating on driving because I was waiting on it to break traction.
13:48I was about to turn, but it stayed planned.
13:55So I had a motor fart and over last week, fixed a few things and we're back to having our oil leak
14:14that we had before.
14:16We just made our test pass.
14:17The car made a hell of a leak, but it sprayed oil everywhere.
14:21We're fighting that same issue we had back in Tulsa where it was spraying a little bit,
14:27spraying a little bit, and then all of a sudden we had a huge mess on our hands.
14:30Right now, we've got a huge mess on our hands.
14:32We tracked it down last time in the China Rail area right through here where that whole valley
14:37feels full of oil, and if you don't put the right gaskets or on it, it's going to blow out.
14:45We've been fighting this gremlin a little bit over the last two races.
14:58You know, everybody thinks maybe the altitude is bothering us or something like that.
15:01We haven't even had a chance to make the car make a hit to adjust to the altitude.
15:05This is going to be a huge problem for us to make next round.
15:08I sent the tune-up over to Lee. I told him it felt kind of like a turd.
15:15I mean, it didn't feel like Denver, but, you know, Damon's fast, and I told him I don't want to lose,
15:22so he's going to look at it and see. I told him the plugs look pretty shiny,
15:26so I should be able to put more in it, but we'll see what he says.
15:30First round, grade eight here in Vegas, we got Damon Merchant, our teammate.
15:35Good thing is, is one of us is going to go on. Obviously, we hope that it's us.
15:39We're going to try and knock his head off, but when we turn those lights on,
15:42we're not teammates anymore. It just didn't feel good.
15:45Like, when I left in Denver, I was like, holy , you know?
15:49It was starting to paddle the tires.
15:54That's why I think we need to turn the tire pressure up, so it's up on top of the tire
15:58instead of paddling them like that. I think when the tire pressure's so low like that,
16:02it lets them, it sinks that tire down to the pavement instead of when you get up on the tires,
16:06when you go fast. I'm going to call them back and tell them.

16:24I asked him to turn it up as much as I could possibly have it, so I mean,

16:42Like, whenever we had a little mess at Tulsa, it was spraying out china rails.
16:47We kept, like, doctoring that up, and then a bolt came out.
16:51And I think that bolt was coming out at Tulsa, spraying around it,
16:55but the china rails were leaking, too. We had a bolt come out
16:58from where an oil galley is and sprayed oil everywhere.
17:01So I think we got that fixed, but we've got to go rounds tonight
17:05because, you know, Kai's killing it in points right now on Friday night.
17:10We were in second. We fall into fourth.
17:13We've got to do everything we can, scratch and claw to get off our ass and get back into that running
17:17for, you know, the race of the championship for individual points.

18:36and all of a sudden, pow, and I'm sitting dead in the water.
18:40Our streak of mishaps continues. Well, it, like, chugged down, that boom, boom, boom, boom,
18:48and then it, like, lost everything. It wouldn't go anywhere with the pedal, so I got off of it right here
18:53for almost a full second there. It wouldn't do anything, so.
18:59It felt like we put in preventative maintenance, go over that thing with a fine tube comb constantly,
19:05stay up late nights, stay extra at the track, you know, it's just parts failures
19:10and it's kicking our ass right now.
19:16Good job, you guys. Man, we were kind of scared.
19:20My tuner's in bed already because they're over on the east coast, so it's two hours
19:24later there. I made the executive choice to leave the tune up in the car. It was a little hot.
19:29It left. It left with the tires way up in the air, and when they sat down, it launched me towards the
19:34left side, and I drove the center line the rest of the way. We're going on to the semi-finals.
19:39Hopefully we get a car we can outrun, and we'll go from there. Did I scare you?

19:54It's hard to think about the grade eight. Everybody controls fast.

20:02So I drew Murninova in the grade eight, first round. He's new to the grade eight,
20:05but lately his car's been getting fast, so I know he's not a duck. I know he's not a good draw.
20:10I think my car's faster than him. We just, we got to look at our tune-up and make sure we know
20:16we put something that'll go right down the racetrack, fast, without shaking, and all over the place.
20:21And that's what we've been doing all year, staying conservative, and it works. So that's what we're going to try.
20:26He's new to the grade eight. I'd like for him to do good. I like the guy, but I really want to just
20:30put him right back out first round. Well, Kai, there's no friends. I'm starting.
20:38So we go up there. This is my first one. I'm already intimidated by everybody, you know,
20:43and an ax man looks at me and goes, man, you're new to this. Go ahead and take Kai for us,
20:48you know? And I was like, yeah, probably. And then I drew Kai. We have now secured our spot in the
20:53grade eight, and I couldn't be happier with that part of it. Right back to the bad luck, I draw Kai.
20:58I raced him one time this year. He had some problems on the starting line. So I never got to see
21:03what I needed to be able to outrun him, you know? So even if we lose to him today,
21:10I'll learn a lot. I'll know where I need to pick up. Kai's first pass ain't always his good one.
21:15So I mean, it will be against me. Yeah. Yeah, but you didn't, you weren't going to
21:20mine will be too though. Yeah, mine will be too though. I'll beating Kai every,
21:25there's not a lot of people out here who've done it, you know? So, and I sure haven't. So
21:29I can't imagine it, but hopefully it happens. I really need you to take him out. Man, dude,
21:35I'm trying, I promise you it ain't going to be from a lack of trying. That's the problem right now is
21:40everybody wants me to beat Kai. I think you can do it. We'll see. I hope so, man.
