00:04Hi everyone, my name is Jean-Francois Duguay, I'm the Game Director on Deus Ex Human Revolution and I'm with...
00:09David Orfossi, producer of Deus Ex Human Revolution.
00:13And for today, this special video, we're here to talk about the highlight option in the game.
00:19I would say the augmented reality.
00:21Yes, the augmented reality.
00:25The augmented reality, like everything that allows Adam to feel smarter, to be able to acknowledge everything in his environment,
00:35what he can use and what not, giving a lot of information, has always been part of the fantasy of
00:42this kind of augmented Terminator character.
00:44It's part of Adam Jensen.
00:46Exactly.
00:47You're right.
00:47And for us, we really believe that it's something that really adds to the experience.
00:55No, it's really part of Adam Jensen, it's part of the immersion I would say also.
01:01He has been augmented and now it feels right, you know, it's justified through the character.
01:09But?
01:10But, we still have a good news.
01:14The good news is that we've been surfing the net lately to see all the reactions about what we've shown
01:23in different videos and all the previews coming out and things like that.
01:29And we also, like, showed the PAX video and whatnot.
01:34And we read a lot of the people's reactions on the game.
01:40And I must say that the reaction is fairly positive.
01:44But the highlight comes back very often as being a cause of, like, people fear that it's going to break
01:53the immersion, which we totally disagree with.
01:56That being said, we decided that we're going to offer the option to the players to turn the highlight off.
02:09And moreover, we also allowed to disable the objective locator floating in the maps as well.
02:17So, you can remove totally the augmented reality.
02:22And I guess it's like Adam Jensen would go like when he goes back at home and he just wants
02:27to relax and watch a movie.
02:28Maybe he doesn't want those things in front of him.
02:33So, that's an option that is going to, yeah.
02:36So, maybe we could look at the game?
02:38Yeah, sure.
02:39So, now you can see the two police officers.
02:41You see some yellow box behind him.
02:44And you see also a door.
02:46And now you see the yellow highlight telling you that you can interact with those objects.
02:52So, now David is going to go into the game options, into the gameplay section.
02:59And now we have plenty of options for the players.
03:04But the two options that you're interested to know about today are the objective locators that can be turned to
03:10off.
03:11And the object highlight that can also be switched to off.
03:15So, if we do it right now, and we go back in the game.
03:20See?
03:21Now, all the objects are, have no highlight around them.
03:26Either, whether it's the door or the boxes.
03:30And even like the objective locator, you don't see it anymore.
03:34So, now you can really play the game without those things.
03:39If for you, it enhance the immersion in the world of the SX Human Revolution.
03:44So, we have three difficulty levels.
03:47The first two ones, the object highlight and the objective locator is going to be switched to on by default.
03:56If you choose the hardest setting, those options will be turned to off.
04:02But the good thing is, as you play the game and whatnot, you might decide to turn them on again
04:08if you want,
04:09if you're in the hardest difficulty level.
04:11And if you play on the first two difficulty levels and you want to switch them off as well, you
04:17can do it.
04:18So, even though you choose difficulty level by default, you can always go back into the options and reverse those
04:25options to another state or whatnot.
04:28So, I hope you're going to enjoy this addition we made late in the game, which was a risk because
04:37we're in debug and we're trying to stabilize the game.
04:40So, we took a risk for you guys.
04:42And I would like to also say thanks to all the comments, especially the constructive ones, because when it's constructive,
04:55this is where you build things.
04:57And so, thank you. And I hope that you're awaiting the game as much as we await to ship it.
05:07And see you next time. Thank you.
05:09Bye-bye.
05:16So, if you want, you can spend like minutes and minutes and go back on, go back off.
05:20Bye-bye.
