00:10Siamo Jean-François Duguay, I'm the Game Director on DSX Human Revolution and today we're
00:17going to talk a little bit about the E3 demo that we shown this year earlier in June. Before
00:26going into that DSX Human Revolution is an action RPG in which you play a security specialist
00:32called Adam Jensen and you work for a biotech corporation called Serif Industries and early
00:39on in the game as the security specialist you get attacked, you get badly injured and
00:45you're forced to go through augmentations to save your life and when you come back from
00:50the dead you have new abilities that you will discover as you play through the game and you'll
00:55embark on a quest to find out who were those mysterious attackers at the beginning of the
01:01game and that quest will lead you in several locations around the world from Detroit to Hengsha
01:08which is a small island offshore of Shanghai and actually the demo we're going to look
01:14at today is set in Hengsha Island, it's about halfway through the game.
01:20Ok, and this other voice you're hearing, I'm Charles from IGN and I'll just be here to ask
01:25questions and get additional information because there's a lot of things going on in this game
01:28and if you just see a straight playthrough you don't really get a sense of all of the different
01:33decisions you can make that can take you down different paths so I'll be asking about that
01:37kind of thing. Ok, cool. So just before you continue, we're...
01:42And this is the PS3 version, right? Yes, this is the PS3 version. So at the beginning of this map,
01:47like I said,
01:48Taiyong Medical is a competitor of Serif Industries and through your quest you're into a lead
01:54to go invest what's going on in the other company and if they have been involved or not in whatever
02:00events that you have followed so far. And right now we're kind of a shadow in that company.
02:08Nobody knows that we got in there so we need to make our way through the company and find out
02:15some evidences.
02:16so we can move forward. And then I guess we're coming up on an NPC here, we're going to see
02:22a conversation
02:23interface and I don't know if you can just talk a little bit about the different kinds of decisions you
02:27can make
02:28here and how that might play out differently in terms of how the conversation winds up going.
02:32Yeah, actually it's not the beginning of this map. Depending on how you play, there are some events
02:38before that sequence where you might be involved in helping someone with something or not.
02:46And depending on if you do it or not, you'll have different choices to talk to this character.
02:53You might be able to get some hint about someone that you help and this guy will let you through.
02:59So this actual menu here?
03:02Exactly, exactly. And depending, you can try to bribe him or you can try to convince him in a different
03:09way to get past this place.
03:12Or you can go with the less subtle option and try to get him out of the way and continue
03:18your quest basically.
03:21Is 500, is that a large sum of cash? Like is that a significant investment you're making there if you
03:26get a bribe?
03:27It depends what kind of player you are. If you're the player that is always saving all the credits you
03:34find,
03:34500 might not be a big deal. If you're someone that is really spending your credits into
03:41to weapons and upgrades and augmentations and things like that. Or every time that someone asks you for money,
03:47you give it away. You might get there and say, you know, I don't have the money or maybe I
03:52will keep it for something else.
03:55So in this case, we bribe this guy. And I guess this guy needs some money for a new television
04:02or something.
04:03I don't know. And he says yes.
04:05He's got some very fancy looking armor there.
04:07Yeah. Those are not the kind of guys you want to mess with. Actually, they're called Bell Tower Security.
04:14They're kind of like Garda type of security companies. And they ensure the security of Taeyong Medical in a hang
04:23shop basically.
04:24Cool.
04:25So now we really need to go through that building. Taeyong Medical, it's a vertical building.
04:32And now we're in the lower part where it's all about manufacturing, the augmentations, all the more, I would say,
04:40the factory aspect of the company. And we need to go on to the upper parts where it's more the
04:46administration,
04:47the research department and things like that. So now we need to find a way to get through while avoiding
04:54the proper channels of getting in the company.
04:58Because it's a very, this company is very secure and nobody can enter there like they want and things like
05:06that.
05:06So I guess you'll have to do a lot of this, a lot of the hacking mini game.
05:10Yeah, the hacking can be really useful. I mean, you're not forced to do it, but it can be really
05:14useful.
05:15Here we see a small network where you need to enter from the IO port, which was the blue orb
05:22at the beginning of the sequence.
05:24And you need to get to the green orb, which is the registry, and you can unlock the content of
05:31that system.
05:32And you have the security system, the red tower that is trying to trace you back to your entry point.
05:39Now we succeeded at hacking the device, and now we can have access to a catwalk that we can move
05:47in the upper part
05:49and have access to other areas that otherwise would be non-available, basically.
05:54Okay, and I'm curious, like, if there's an NPC around you while you're hacking and you're not supposed to do
06:00that,
06:00will they recognize that and be like, you know, you should really stop breaking into our computer system?
06:04They will warn you, like, they will say, hey, you can't do that. But if you pull off, you're going
06:09to be fine.
06:10If you continue, now they will attract a guard. If there are no guards, then they will just complain alone.
06:17And you can hit them and continue, whatever.
06:22And these collection mechanics here where you just go into lockers and that sort of thing,
06:26I guess that will be important for keeping your ammo stocked and everything like that, for the inventory system?
06:32I mean, yes, we have an inventory system, and one of the key aspects of the game,
06:37other than just moving forward and shooting people or sneaking past them,
06:42it's to explore the surroundings because there are a lot of items that you can find.
06:46So now in this case, we're in the inventory, we have a grid where we have a certain amount of
06:51slots available.
06:53And depending on if you explore a lot and you want to collect a lot of items
06:58and you want to collect all the ammo that you might need, depending on your playstyle,
07:05you can end up with an inventory that is going to be full pretty quickly.
07:09So it might be a good idea to invest in some augmentation that will allow you to expand your inventory
07:15size.
07:15Yeah, so that's what those gray boxes are on the right side of the screen.
07:19That's inventory space you haven't exactly expanded to yet.
07:21Exactly.
07:22But you could.
07:22It shows you the potential of what you can get if you get the upgrades, basically.
07:28And this is like an old-school call-out to the original where it's like you have to make these
07:32decisions.
07:33But you can also combine things within your inventory as well.
07:36Absolutely.
07:37You can sometimes you have, for an example, we have what we call a mine template,
07:43which is kind of a device that you can stick to any kind of walls or objects and whatnot.
07:49And the thing is that you can combine it with different types of grenades that you have.
07:53So you can put an EMP grenade on it or a frag grenade on it or a concussion grenade on
07:58it.
07:59And you can stick it to any surfaces and trick your enemies with that.
08:04So depending on what you want to do, do you want to destroy them or just knock them unconscious or
08:10just dissolve them or things like that.
08:14So there are a lot of possibilities like that.
08:17But yes, it was for us.
08:18It was an odd to the original game, but we are also big fans of Resident Evil 4 and it's
08:23kind of a similar formula.
08:26And we thought in terms of the choices and consequences of philosophy, it was a nice addition
08:33because it always challenges you into choosing like, okay, do I keep that weapon with me or not?
08:40What is really my play style and what is the best fit for me and whatnot?
08:44So, yeah.
08:46Okay.
08:46Yeah, sorry.
08:46I didn't mean to get too distracted on the inventory screen.
08:49But it's so cool, inventory systems.
08:50I do.
08:51I find inventory systems exciting.
08:53I do.
08:54Especially when you can't just pick everything up and you do have to make those decisions.
08:58Because then obviously if you're playing a stealth guy, it doesn't really make sense to carry around a machine gun.
09:03Or the rocket launcher.
09:04Or yes, or something much larger.
09:06Yeah.
09:06Oh, and you have a radial select menu too, so you don't necessarily have to go into that inventory screen
09:11every time.
09:11Absolutely.
09:12Everything that has to do with grenades, weapons or consumables like nutrient bars to refill your energy bars and things
09:19like that.
09:20You have the quick inventory that you can use.
09:22So, we wanted to have all the benefits of an inventory system, but we didn't want it to slow down
09:28the experience when you had to quickly select like something that you will use on a very regular basis.
09:33Okay.
09:34And is that, are we entering into a combat scenario here?
09:38Moving forward?
09:39Yes and no.
09:40We're going to try with the silent sniper rifle to take down this guard to make sure that it's not
09:47an annoyance.
09:48Right now, as you can see, the scope is moving quite a lot.
09:54So, what we're going to do before shooting, we're going to go into some of our augmentations and we'll acquire
10:03the aim stabilizer, which is going to reduce the amount of bubbling of the scope.
10:09So, when we go back in game, it's still moving because we didn't get the latest upgrade that totally annihilates
10:18the moving.
10:19So, it'll be a still 100 percent stable.
10:23Grazie.
