00:28We really wanted something
00:30unique and a real incentive
00:32and we thought it would be
00:35really nice to have a taste
00:37of the Hitman fantasy
00:41Basically we were
00:43discussing a lot how to make
00:45an interesting pre-order
00:47incentive for Absolution
01:08We had all kinds of ideas about
01:10what we could do with levels or
01:11characters or weapons and then
01:13there was this
01:14we had like an old design of like a
01:17sniper challenge map
01:18It was not meant to be a part of Hitman
01:21Solution
01:21It was not meant to be anything other than
01:23just fun for the company
01:24and it was actually so fun that the
01:26rest of the house started playing it
01:27without really being prompted to do so
01:30and that told us we had something that was
01:31a little bit out of the ordinary
01:33We figured at some point that this might
01:36actually be a map that we can use for the game
01:38We knew that the fun factor was quite high
01:40so we just needed to look into
01:42how do we implement this into
01:44to being in the Hitman fantasy
01:52It's a little contained game on its own
01:54if you will
01:55It's simple, you shoot people
01:56and then you have to figure out
01:57what is the puzzle you have to solve
01:59to not alert everyone
02:00and we actually took that whole concept
02:02and said okay
02:03if we're to do this as a product
02:05how would that then be
02:06and that turned into the Sniper Challenge
02:08It's teasing a lot of little moments
02:11that you will go through in Absolution
02:12but it's not directly linked
02:14that's also part of the kind of strength of it
02:16is that it is an addition to the main game
02:20The Sniper Challenge is
02:21you seeing the world through a scope
02:23and we have a lot of stuff going on in the game
02:25with pretty advanced AI and a lot of options
02:28so the initial phase was just trying to figure out
02:31how do we make sure that all the stuff
02:33that's in Absolution somehow
02:34makes it across the Sniper Scope
02:36and onto the roof of the building
02:38that you are focusing on
02:42That's your main target
02:43On the Sniper Challenge
02:45we wanted to create a skyscraper
02:47where a weapons dealer was hosting
02:49his annual release party
02:51for his shareholders
02:53and Agent 47 has the task
02:56to actually go in
02:57and take this weapons dealer out
03:03and to do this we had to create a gameplay field
03:07where the player could explore different possibilities
03:10of fanciful kills
03:12and not getting discovered at the same time
03:17We really wanted to give the player
03:20to stay in the fantasy
03:21that they remember from Hitman and Bloodman
03:23We need to be in the atmosphere
03:25of this classy hit, classy target
03:28that Hitman needs to take down
03:30There is the sense that whatever you do
03:33it will kind of ripple out into the whole map
03:36and you have to kind of think twice
03:38before making your move
03:40One of the moments I liked best in the Sniper Challenge
03:42which is actually something that came in fairly late
03:44which is the elevator challenge we did
03:46where you can distract the guard
03:48and then shoot a fuse box
03:49and then if you are fast
03:51you shoot him into the elevator shaft
03:52and then the elevator does close
03:54and I think it's a beautiful way
03:56with game mechanics to sum up
03:57the kind of the refinery
04:00of being a really really cool assassin
04:03you're shooting a guy
04:03but you're also both distracting him
04:05and disposing of him at the same time
04:07One of the things that
04:09is a really interesting challenge for us
04:11is to put as many characters as possible
04:13for the player to discover
04:16and it's not just the main cast
04:19We have this ninja
04:20that kind of looks like
04:21he's about to commit suicide
04:22and you're kind of like
04:23helping him a bit of it in the way
04:33We really wanted to create a buzz with the Sniper Challenge
04:36and what we really thought is that
04:37okay we do a few leaderboards
04:39as I said originally this started in-house right
04:41where people actually just started playing it for fun
04:43and they also started competing on the leaderboard
04:46to figure out the most creative way to go about the mission
04:50creativity
04:51and what you do combined with a score
04:53was pretty much set people on fire
04:56so we also thought that you know
04:57what makes most sense is also to be able to talk to your friends about how you scored
05:00so that's why we came up with the concept of just you know
05:03separating a few different leaderboards
05:04personally I would never figure on the worldwide leaderboard
05:07but I do know how I would fare against my friends right
05:09and in that way it's much more fun to compete with people you know
05:15there's all these little kind of hidden details
05:20that can help improve your score
05:22and improve your play style towards the game
05:24that some of it we're kind of hinting at
05:26and other things we are keeping secret for players to find out by themselves
05:30and looking like talking with your friends
05:32finding out what was it that they did
05:34that actually made them improve so drastically on their score
05:41Gameplay wise we really wanted to make it so that
05:43when you play the game and as you improve your skills
05:45and you unlock stuff in the sniper challenge
05:47that it actually unlocks an absolution as well
05:49so we wanted to create that tie-in
05:51to make them feel that they are connected
05:52even if the sniper challenge is mainly about sniping
05:55and absolution is about everything else hitman if you will
06:11you
06:15you
