00:18The building of levels is a process that typically starts on paper
00:22where we have an early sketch phase where it's just about
00:27what locations do we build in this level
00:31what are the rooms
00:32what are the purpose of the rooms
00:33what are the story
00:34how does the target use the rooms
00:38who do we meet in the level
00:40what moments
00:40how many weird ways can we come up with that you can kill this person
00:47how many accidents can we do
00:48what kind of accidents would be special to this location
00:53so that's the early part of it
00:54yeah I guess it also like starts
00:57yeah as we said like with the prototype
01:00like a paper prototype
01:01and then you start putting like simple stuff
01:04like just the character
01:05and then how it plays around in all sort of
01:09in all the spaces
01:11and then you kind of design what is the
01:13as you said like the purpose of each space
01:15it has to be meaningful
01:17and then when you're satisfied
01:18after going through a lot of iterations
01:22then you add another level of detail
01:24the first version is also about the size of it
01:26how big is this room
01:28how big is this level
01:29how much space do we need to actually
01:32kind of sneak around this person
01:34and again once we're in the early phase
01:37it's super easy to change it
01:39and to do a new iteration
01:41where we move the entire building someplace else
01:43we need to move the walls
01:43or rotate everything 90 degrees
01:45to get a better presentation of things
01:47and then from that point on
01:49the graphics artists
01:50they inherit
01:51take over the level design markup
01:54and typically they throw everything away
01:57and rebuild it from scratch
01:59because it's like
02:00they have to follow certain rules
02:02when they create their things
02:04in terms of how they divide walls
02:06and doors and windows
02:07and furniture and props and all of that stuff
02:10and after their pass
02:11you usually get like also more ideas
02:12because
02:12yes
02:13they add some details
02:14they're just like
02:15oh but why didn't I think of that
02:16and you're like
02:16oh can I get it into like the level
02:18because it's extremely fun
02:20so
02:20yeah so that's actually where you get
02:22you get something from the graphic artists
02:24as well it's like
02:25oh so these people are actually talking about
02:27this thing that you put in the corner
02:28and then all of a sudden
02:29it kind of grows together
02:32so the narrative of the characters
02:34and the rooms
02:36and the props
02:37and everything kind of just
02:39kind of works together
