00:11is the sequel to the highest rated RTS of all time
00:14it takes place on the eastern front
00:16which is one of the most vicious and epic battles
00:18that human history has ever been exposed to
00:27nobody really knows about it
00:2913 of the 15 bloodiest battles of world war 2 were fought on the eastern front
00:32the losses are in the millions
00:34the scale of it is something that you haven't seen before
00:37the story is something you haven't seen before
00:39in company heroes 2 gamers can expect a lot of different things
00:42than they would have seen in the first version
00:44the essence engine 3.0 is a great engine
00:47one of the things that we wanted to up was
00:49the feeling of connecting you to the world
00:53the new line of sight system we're calling true sight
00:55in company heroes 2 introduces something that
00:58that we don't think has ever been done quite this way before for RTS
01:01true sight basically takes into account things that would block your line of sight
01:06and represents that in a dynamic fog of war system
01:09so as you come around a corner if there's a wall that you wouldn't be able to see over
01:13you don't get to see what's behind that and that opens up a ton of tactical and strategic options
01:18for flanking for sneak attacks for ambushes
01:22so it really makes you think a whole lot differently about how you move about the world
01:26you talk about little things that make a big difference and vaulting is one of those little things that makes
01:31a huge difference
01:32in company heroes 1 you had no opportunity to go around small obstacles and this is something that i think
01:38that everyone would expect
01:39that an infantry soldier would be able to do is jump over something as high as their waist
01:43and it really prevented players from executing strategies that they wanted to
01:48a great example of how we use vaulting in company heroes 2 is that we wanted to get a visual
01:53language of any passable wall being something that you could climb over
01:56if you pair that up with cold tech there's a lot of situations in the game where the long way
02:01around you're probably not going to make it
02:03if you vault now you can get to a location where you can take cover stop freezing or get somewhere
02:09where you might be able to get heat and warm up again
02:11the weather was an incredible force to deal with for both sides
02:14it was something that would absolutely cripple an army if they were unprepared or if they got caught off guard
02:19and it's something that we've really tried to capture in the gameplay experience of COH2
02:24so cold tech really delivers to players the choices that come about as a result of harsh winters
02:31you've got ice you've got deep snow and you've got vicious cold and each of those bring a new tactical
02:37element for players
02:38if you bring your vehicles onto the ice if somebody bombs the ice around your tank your tank's going to
02:43sink
02:43and it looks great like the ice cracks around it you hear it crumble the tank falls in if there's
02:48any units that are standing nearby
02:50they fall in the water and they try to swim for their lives but they're doomed it's too cold
02:58so I remember playing one of our multiplayer maps early in development where I had originally played it in the
03:04spring
03:04now it's in the dead of winter the rivers are now frozen over my tanks and my troops can travel
03:10over them
03:11the cover is all changed it's a completely different experience and that's what makes COH2 so amazing
03:16using line of sight using smoke using vaulting using the true sight system
03:22you're gonna have more opportunities to ambush and surprise players and use information warfare in a way that you've never
03:29seen in an RTS before
03:30we talk about every battle tells a story and six years later after the original company of Heroes has been
03:35released
03:35we still as a team when we play it jump up out of our seats and run over to our
03:39opponents and talk about what just happened
03:41it's never the same experience something always new and exciting is happening
03:44and that really is what the essence engine brings to the table
03:47it really allows us to provide that experience that you just never forget and always keep talking about
04:09you
