00:07Hello everyone, my name is Ashraff Ismail
00:09I am the Game Director of Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag
00:11and we're here in Ubisoft Montreal
00:13I'm very proud to be here with you, our PC gamers, our GeForce fans
00:17This is where we make Assassin's Creed
00:19and it's an absolute pleasure for me to be able to show you behind the scenes
00:22of how we're going to make this AC the best AC on PC
00:26So come follow me
00:36So this is where it all happens
00:37This is the AC4 dev team
00:39Behind me is an army of the most passionate and talented game developers out there
00:43We have programmers, engineers, designers, artists
00:45all in the back there working to make the best AC game possible
00:49If you'll follow me, I'll show you some more stuff
01:01We're here in our sound booth
01:02Over there we have a Foley stage
01:04You know, sound design is very important in Assassin's Creed
01:06We need to marry these amazing visuals with great audio
01:09So we do everything in house
01:10And that includes sound effects, voice overs and music
01:14I have one more thing I'd like to show you
01:16So let's go
01:17More emotion
01:20So what I'm about to show you is Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag on a 4K screen
01:24So I've never seen this before
01:26This is my first time seeing it
01:28And it's going to be the time we show it to you
01:29So I'm really excited
01:31Let's go
01:36This is stunning
01:37This is absolutely stunning
01:38Look at the texture of the flag
01:42So we're here, Sylvain, with our PC gamers
01:44Everyone, this is Sylvain, our associate producer
01:47So Sylvain, maybe you can walk us through and tell us
01:49What does 4K mean?
01:50What does it mean for PC?
01:51So 4K basically is like four screens of 1080p in a single screen
01:56Okay, so that means all the textures, everything's just high res
01:59Yeah, the game is like just simply awesome
02:02Look at all the wood planks and everything
02:04So you see like the textures like on the cannon
02:06You can feel the grain of the wood
02:08Yeah, you can see all the different essence of wood that were used to build the ship
02:12And even the shadows are high res
02:13Yeah, the shadows are super high res
02:15So another big advantage of 4K is that
02:18Look at this, look at all the ropes
02:21So even if you are far, it's super hard to draw this thing
02:26But with this number of pixels, like the GPU we have, it's showing like super nicely
02:31This is absolutely breathtaking
02:34I mean, I've never seen the game this detailed
02:36I've never seen the game this beautiful before
02:38Wow
02:45So with Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag, you know, when we started this game
02:48We told ourselves we wanted to make the definitive pirate experience
02:52And from there, this is where we started telling the tale of Edward Kenway
02:56The grandfather of Connor from AC3
02:58A British man who's poor, who's a sailor who gets sucked into the life of piracy
03:03Because he gets lured by fame and fortune
03:05And this is the story we tell
03:07When we started Black Flag and we said we're doing the Caribbean
03:10We needed to deliver this picturesque vision of what the Caribbean is
03:15It needs to be this really beautiful place
03:17And we found that on PC we can push a lot of the features, a lot of the visuals
03:20To have it be much more credible, much more authentic and just visually stunning
03:24You know, we ship on many, many platforms
03:26But we wanted to put extra love and care into the PC platform
03:29We love the PC, it's really one of the most beautiful ways of playing the game and seeing the game
03:36Working with Nvidia from the beginning, you know, was a partnership
03:39That was really about how can we push the PC version of the game
03:42And so we've had our engineers working with Nvidia's engineers
03:45To really push the tech, to really push what the cards can do
03:48To push what our engine can do
03:50Really all in the hopes of having a really stunning and beautiful PC version of the game
03:54So, you know, things like TXA, anti racing
03:58We have a lot of rigging, a lot of rope on ships
04:00And, you know, we can't have Jaggies everywhere
04:02So we really wanted the most beautiful version of anti racing that we can have
04:06On top of that, we have tons of things in the environment
04:09You know, things like jungles, things like cities
04:10With a dynamic day-night cycle
04:12So we needed to have shadows that were really breathtaking
04:15That were very believable
04:16And so we take advantage of PCSS on the GeForce cards
04:20This is where the shadows have a lot more life to them
04:23They have a lot more fullness to them
04:25Of course, we have a beautiful sun
04:27We have this amazing cloth
04:29We have all these foliage around you
04:31So we needed to have improved god rays
04:32We take advantage of this feature called Turbulence
04:35This is where whenever you have a huge puff of smoke
04:38That comes out and disperses into the environment in a really natural way
04:41So something like a cannon or a pistol
04:43Again, this is unique to the Nvidia cards
04:45And this is something we take advantage of in AC4 Black Flag
04:51AC4, we set out to make the definitive pirate game
04:53And it is the best AC game we've ever built
04:55And it's also the most beautiful game we've ever built
04:58I think people are going to absolutely eat this up
