04:02Hello everyone and welcome to the Gamescom 2014 presentation of Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom
04:08Pain.
04:09Two months ago at E3 we showed off various features of the game as we snuck through this stage
04:13to accomplish our mission.
04:14Today we'll play through the same stage but show you how the same mission can feel completely
04:18different depending on the various factors such as route and time of day.
04:22Marker placed.
04:51Back at E3 you remember there were guards at this post, but you'll notice that they're
04:55not here anymore, so already we're seeing some variation in the mission.
04:59But that said, it looks like there are two soldiers heading sway in a vehicle, so let's go ahead
05:03and leave a little surprise for them.
05:30Alright, looks like these soldiers are disoriented, so let's go ahead and pull from them.
05:33along with their vehicle before they wake up.
06:00As you may recall back at E3 we ran into a sandstorm which caused some problems, so to avoid
06:04that we'll minimize sidetracking and head straight towards our marker.
06:18Well it looks like we have a goat here that's been separated from its herd, so let's see if
06:21we can help him out.
06:32And there he goes.
06:44We have a pack of wolves here too, most likely after the goat.
06:49Let's just keep our distance and continue with our mission before they come after us instead.
06:56Do remember that the landscape in the Phantom Pain is populated by various types of wildlife,
07:00and certain animals, such as wolves, can actually be dangerous, so you need to use caution when
07:04exploring the wilderness.
07:08Alright, so here we are at our vantage point.
07:10You have arrived at your destination.
07:12But first, what's this in the distance?
07:19Well, lo and behold, that's actually the vantage point we used at E3.
07:23This gives you some idea of where we are relative to our previous route on the other end of the
07:26base.
07:30With that said, let's go ahead and mark the enemy.
07:50And it does look like the security is a bit tighter than it was before.
07:54You may remember that when we sneaked into the space previously we created quite a mess,
07:58so the enemy has actually stepped up their game, and there are more troops here.
08:02And this is one example of how the game will actually adapt to player actions,
08:06and the same mission may actually be quite different when replayed.
08:09It was fairly easy to sneak into the space previously,
08:12but we'd have a much harder time if we tried to sneak in during daylight here.
08:15So let's go ahead and use our phantom cigar to pass the time.
08:41At night, as you can tell from the markers, it looks like security around our objective is beefed up.
08:45However, security around the rest of the base is fairly sparse.
08:48So let's go ahead and use that to our advantage.
09:20Oh and it looks like the enemies are wearing helmets now.
09:24The last time we played this mission we used too many headshots with the tranq,
09:27so it looks like the enemy has countered by having troops wear helmets this time around.
09:31The point here is that if you overuse some weapons or techniques the enemy will learn to take steps to
09:35counter your actions
09:36thanks to the AI capabilities of the Vox engine.
09:44Direc approach here will be difficult, let's go ahead and find a way around.
09:49We're exposed on an open road like this, let's go ahead and use our cardboard box to reduce our chances
09:53of being spotted.
09:55Okay, that said, we have been noticed, this is a bad situation.
09:59We can't vacate the box without being spotted, but we can try something else.
10:06Alright, the enemy's running up, but he's not engaging.
10:09He actually seems kind of excited.
10:12So what's going...
10:14Ah, well, that would definitely explain it.
10:18Let's CQC this guy before he gets a little too excited.
10:23So this is just one example of several new modifications we've made to our cardboard box since E3,
10:28thanks to the various people we've recruited into our R&D unit.
10:36Even at night, you'll notice that the area around our target is actually pretty well lit, making it difficult to
10:40stay out of sight.
10:41So let's see if we can find a way to remedy that.
10:43This soldier may have some clues, let's try interrogating him.
11:02Okay, now we have the location of the power grid, so if we destroy it, we should be able to
11:05shut the lights off.
11:21Alright, that should make things easier.
11:24But the enemy is coming to investigate, so let's go ahead and hide in this trash dumpster.
11:27OK, now we're going to TKP...

15:46Let's go ahead and call our horse and hightail it out of here.

16:32And that's mission complete.
16:53All right, back at E3, we introduced Mother Base as their central base of operations.
16:57And you'll notice that the base we're at now looks similar, but there are some differences.
17:06For one thing, you'll notice that this is not the Diamond Dogs logo.
17:10We're actually at another player's forward operating base at the moment.
17:13During our E3 demo, we stopped at a point when your mother base was being attacked.
17:17But this time, we're turning things around to get revenge on that player by infiltrating
17:20their base.
17:23So let's go ahead and mark some targets.
17:31And move on in.
17:41Oops.
17:46Actually, it looks like we have a gun camera here.
17:49In addition to normal security cameras, players can also develop and install automated gun cameras,
17:53such as this one.
17:54As players build up their resources, expand their base, and invest in research,
17:58increasingly powerful weapons and security systems become available.
18:01And it looks like this player has invested quite a bit in beefing up their security.
18:05So we'll need to be careful.
18:12These devices here look suspicious as well.
18:15Most likely infrared laser sensors.
18:22So we'll have to take a detour.
18:25Let's take the high road instead.
18:30Alright, it sounds like an enemy.
18:32So we'll stay low here.
18:34Stay up sight.

18:54Okay, it looks like this player has gathered various resources here.
18:56But before we do anything else, let's go ahead and neutralize these guards.
19:11In addition to resources, it looks like this guy has also got some pretty nice equipment,
19:15which will come in handy for our own defenses.
19:18So let's go ahead and grab these first.
19:28And we'll also take this guy.
19:30By full-titting soldiers from other players, it's possible to convince them to defect and join your army.
19:36Alright, so we'll go ahead and reclaim this stolen property,
19:39along with a bit of interest while we're at it.
19:42At front operating bases such as this,
19:44players can compete and steal resources from one another.
19:52In order to protect your resources, you'll need to gather staff, assign security patrols,
19:56develop security systems, and invest in developing new platforms.
20:00The more platforms you build,
20:01the greater the distance that enemies will need to traverse in order to reach their goal,
20:05making infiltration more difficult.
20:07It's a different type of battle from the main missions,
20:10but critical to ensuring the survival and success of Diamond Dogs.
20:23Right, so we see our target off on another platform.
20:30So let's climb on down and make our way there.
20:39And to help us bypass security,
20:40we'll go ahead and use our Phantom Cigar.
