00:32a lot of people were just going, guns blazing.
00:37Gradually, members of the team became quite competitive
00:40and started issuing challenges to one another.
00:43Could you get through hospital without using your motion tracker?
00:46Could you get through engineering without firing a gun?
00:48And we had a lot of fun.
00:50It was really interesting and really exciting.
00:52And we started to realise that this shouldn't be something
00:54that we just keep to ourselves.
00:55And that's where the idea of Survivor Mode came from.
01:01Survivor Mode is all about the enemies of Alien Isolation.
01:05These are specially designed challenges
01:06where the player must complete objectives
01:08against the clock while being hunted.
01:16Within each challenge, the player can earn bonuses
01:18which will go towards a final score.
01:20These can be things such as, did you hide?
01:22Did you collect any items? Were you detected?
01:25At the end of each challenge,
01:26the player's final time and score
01:28will be sent to the Alien Isolation leaderboards.
01:30This allows them to compete directly
01:32with their friends and other players.
01:50When we let players go hands-on
01:52with Survivor Mode at E3 this year,
01:54the reaction was great.
01:54We found that people didn't just enjoy
01:57playing the encounters for themselves for the first time
01:59but also that they really enjoyed
02:01watching each other play and could compare their experiences.
02:03After playing through the challenges,
02:05people were really keen to share stories
02:07and talk about how they managed
02:09to complete the objectives.
02:10And people got really excited when they saw
02:12how differently their results were turning out.
02:14This is kind of what survival mode is
02:16but on a global scale.

02:31events are so interesting.
