00:22Hello and welcome to Far Cry 4 map editor tutorial for consoles.
00:31So this is our main menu, you can see here on the right side on Chronicles we have Battles
00:37of Curat which is our multiplayer, we have the map browser, the map editor, and the keys
00:43to Curat.
00:44So we're just going to go select the map editor and go in there, so you can see our basic
00:49map
00:49editor options, we've got four options under create a new map, we've got assault, hunt here
00:56which is killing animals, we have our outpost which is a replica of a basic outpost in Far
01:02Cry, and we have the extraction mode which tasks the player to reach a specified location.
01:09Then over here under local maps we just have all my maps which will show you all the maps
01:13that you have created, whether they've been published or not.
01:16And then downloaded maps are maps that other people have created which you have downloaded.
01:22So I'm just going to jump over here to outpost and select that one.
01:27Alright so here we can now pick our different terrain types, so there's an empty map which
01:32is just blank, so do whatever you want with.
01:35And then we also have some mountains, the Shangri-La mountains, the regular island, and the Shangri-La
01:42island.
01:43So I'm just going to go back to the mountains here, and I'm going to select that to start
01:48with.
01:58So here we are in our freshly generated mountain map.
02:02The first thing I want to do is I'll just talk about the camera controls.
02:07So using the left stick I can pan the camera around to the left and to the right, as well
02:16as zoom in and out, up and down.
02:22Then by using the right stick I'm able to tilt or turn the camera around, left, right, up
02:31and down, as usual.
02:34And then by holding down R1 I'm able to move the camera up and down using the left stick.
02:49So with basic camera movement out of the way, let's talk about manipulating the terrain of
02:56our map.
02:56So I'm going to open up my toolbox here by hitting L1.
02:59See we've got some different options here at the first level.
03:02We've got terrain, we've got our gameplay objects, we've got add new objects, and we have add AI.
03:09We're going to do each of these later, but first let's grab terrain.
03:12And here we've got our terrain tools.
03:15I'm just going to go again here into the terrain tools themselves.
03:19And I'm going to grab the flatten tool here.
03:23So now with this tool selected you see I've got this menu here on the left.
03:28So I can select different options in the menu with up and down on the D-pad and then I
03:33can manipulate
03:34those options using left and right.
03:37So to change the radius or speed or anything like that.
03:40So the way flatten works is it will just take the kind of center of your flattened circle
03:48there and make all the terrain within the circle that height.
03:55So now if I click down and hold our R3 button, you'll see it gives me some different options
04:03now here at the bottom of the screen relating with the D-pad.
04:06So if I push left on the D-pad, we'll undo the last thing we did, which was to flatten
04:12all of our terrain there.
04:14And letting go of R3 returns everything to normal.
04:18We still have our flatten tool selected.
04:20So I'm just going to go in here and just flatten out this area.
04:25This really helps to make it an easier surface to work with.
04:29You don't have to worry about buildings being on weird tilts or objects sinking into
04:33to the ground or popping up some.
04:35A nice flat area is just a really good thing to start with.
04:39So let's just get that all taken care of.
04:42You'll notice as I flatten the terrain here that the vegetation actually moves with the
04:49terrain to compensate for the movement.
04:51So you don't need to worry about replacing any vegetation or anything that you've already
04:57had in play once you start manipulating the terrain.
05:03All right, with our area nice and flattened out here, I'm going to get rid of some of
05:07these sharp cliff edges we've got going on around the outside.
05:11I'm just going to hit L1 again to return to my toolbox.
05:14Go down here and grab the smooth tool.
05:17Well, here it is.
05:18Once again, I've got a big circle.
05:20Using the D-pad, I can select my options on the menu on the left or manipulate them if I
05:26want
05:26to go to.
05:27Let's just leave them on their default state right now, no problem.
05:31So just if I run the smooth tool here, just along these edges, you can see that it just
05:37nicely smooths out these harsh, sharp cliffs that we have as a result of the flattening
05:44we did previously.
05:45It just makes the area look a little more normal, a little more natural, and yeah, it doesn't seem
05:51quite so manufactured thanks to the sharp edges.
05:54So let's move that around, and all right, we're all set.
06:04All right, with our area all set up and good to go, I think it's about time to start placing
06:09in some objects.
06:11So I'm just going to go ahead and open up the toolbox one more time with L1.
06:19Now I can back out through the levels just by hitting B. We'll go back to the top level
06:24here, and this time we'll select our Add New Objects.
06:27So over here now on the left of the menu, I can manipulate with the D-pad.
06:33I've got our top level of some different types of objects that we can add, so I'm just
06:38going to grab the structures here, and I'm going to go into small buildings.
06:42There's all kinds of different ones to choose from, so let's just put something simple down
06:46here.
06:47This is an easy little guy.
06:49So you see the object that I'm placing just simply follows the reticule at the center of
06:55the screen, whether you're panning or zooming or tilting the camera, the object will just
07:01follow along and stay in the center at the reticule.
07:05So I'll just place that down here.
07:07Let's grab another one.
07:09Something different.
07:10Yeah, this looks good.
07:12So I'll come over here with it.
07:14I can hold down the R2 if I want to rotate this object, put it into the position that I
07:23want.
07:24I can just use the left stick here and get it around.
07:28Alright, there we go.
07:29That's a little better.
07:32Put it in position here and just drop it in place.
07:37Alright.
07:38So we've got a couple of small buildings.
07:40Let's go in here and take a look at some large buildings.
07:44So again, just grab a nice easy one here.
07:48and we'll go ahead and put him just, yeah, just down right here.
07:57Alright, good stuff.
07:59Let's go back out to our different kinds of structures here.
08:04Let's add something else.
08:06Let's go into our stairs and add-ons here.
08:10Here we've got just kind of a shelter, sort of a shack-like thing.
08:16We'll put that in as well.
08:18Let's go right there.
08:21Alright.
08:23So let's go back out here.
08:25We'll go into the objects this time.
08:29And number two.
08:31Go down.
08:32Let's grab some of these flags, clothes, and carpets.
08:36Scroll down.
08:37Find a nice simple one here, a nice animated flag from a prayer line.
08:44And just go ahead and hang it here on the porch of this building.
08:49Nice and easy.
08:51You can see it aligns nicely with the objects already in place.
08:56And there it is.
08:58It animates and everything.
09:01Alright.
09:02So let's just back out of here.
09:04Just using B, we'll go back through the menu and out of our toolbox here, back to our default
09:10tool, which is called our picker.
09:13You can see it's just represented by the radicule there in the middle.
09:18And you can see if I bring it over an object I've already placed, the radicule turns red.
09:23And we'll see a little bounding box appear around the object that we have selected.
09:30Check each one of them.
09:32You can see that each one has its own box.
09:36Now if I hit X when I'm on one of them, I'm now able to move the object.
09:41You can see it moves in this manner the same way as when we were placing it.
09:46It just affixes to the middle and moves around as you move the camera.
09:51Again, the same as placing it.
09:53I can hold down R2 and rotate the object in place.
10:01That's good for that one.
10:03Let's see.
10:04Let's grab this one here too.
10:06Give it a little bit of an adjustment.
10:08Let's move it over here.
10:10Give it a bit of a twist.
10:13Alright, cool.
10:14There we go.
10:16So now another thing we need, since this is an outpost, we should place in our alarm.
10:22The thing that the NPCs will use to summon their allies.
10:27So we'll go over here to Gameplay Objects.
10:31Select that.
10:35You can see there's just a couple of different objects in here, including our outpost alarm.
10:41Let's find a good spot for that.
10:43How about over here by these stairs.
10:46We'll just give it a bit of a rotation here, so the horns are facing the right way.
10:53And there we go.
10:54We'll put it in place.
10:55Now another thing we have here in the Gameplay Objects is our player spawn point.
11:00Which is exactly what it sounds like.
11:03It is the position where the player will spawn when they start your map.
11:07So let's put it up here.
11:08Give them a nice little overlook when they start the map.
11:12Here's a nice little space for them.
11:15So we'll rotate it.
11:17Make sure the player is facing the right direction when the map starts.
11:21And we'll drop it right there.
11:22Perfect.
11:22Now we've got a nice little overlook for the player that looks out across our entire map.
11:40So now we have our outposts laid out.
11:42We do not have any enemies.
11:44Let's go into our toolbox.
11:46We'll go into our add AI.
11:47See we've got different options here.
11:50We've got our wave 1.
11:51Our reinforcement.
11:52Which are the enemies that will show up when the alarm is rung.
11:55And then the remaining waves.
11:57Which will come as we kill the reinforcements.
12:00And we also have allies.
12:01And we have animation points.
12:03Let's just grab wave 1 here.
12:05Here.
12:06Again I can use the d-pad to select things in the menu on the left.
12:10So we'll just start with this assaulter.
12:13Right here.
12:14We'll just put him on the porch.
12:16Up top.
12:17We'll switch over now to the beheader.
12:20We'll just put him down over here.
12:23And we'll switch up one more time to our berserker.
12:27We want him on the roof.
12:29Maybe.
12:29Maybe over here.
12:30Yeah.
12:30Let's put him up on the roof.
12:32Alright.
12:33So there we go.
12:34That'll be our wave 1 set of enemies.
12:38Push B back to the toolbox.
12:40And grab our reinforcements.
12:42And see we have the same options on the left.
12:46Same enemies.
12:47And you'll see that now the enemy is represented by this grey mannequin.
12:51Which just means it won't be there when the map starts.
12:54But will spawn at the appropriate time.
12:57Which for these guys is when the alarm is rung.
13:00So let's put him over here in the woods.
13:02So they have to approach the outpost once the alarm has been rung.
13:07And it will also kind of hide their spawning.
13:11So the player doesn't see them pop in.
13:14Because they're all out here in the woods.
13:17Let's put some variety here.
13:19A couple of different types of enemies.
13:20And make sure to rotate them so they come in facing the correct direction.
13:26Alright.
13:26There we go.
13:31So we've got buildings.
13:33We've got enemies.
13:34We've got an alarm.
13:35We've got a spawn point.
13:37Looks like things are alright.
13:38I'm just going to push options here to open up their option menu.
13:42So just up to the top left there is play.
13:45I'll just select that.
13:46And here we are.
13:47Inside our map.
13:49You can see we've spawned at our spawn point.
13:51If I bring up my camera here.
13:53And you can see that the enemies that we placed are right where they belong.
13:58Alright.
13:59That's all good stuff.
14:00Let's just run on down there.
14:02Maybe get a closer look.
14:05Swoop in on our wingsuit here.
14:08Yep.
14:08Everything looks in order.
14:10Alright.
14:10Excellent.
14:11Well our outpost now is pretty basic.
14:13So let's go ahead and start adding some more flourishes.
14:17I think let's start with vehicles.
14:19Let's go down here and do our add new objects.
14:22You can see vehicles here at number 5.
14:25So then we'll select the mobile ones.
14:27Which means these are vehicles that the player or the AI can drive.
14:32So lots of different vehicles in here.
14:34Just grab like this little van here.
14:37So we can place that with the X button.
14:42Go down.
14:44So here.
14:44How about one of these jeeps.
14:47With the mounted machine gun.
14:51These ones are pretty good.
14:52So there we go.
14:54So once again we can just place.
14:56By hitting the X button.
14:58And then if you want more.
15:00You can just keep hitting that X button.
15:02And keep getting jeeps.
15:04So I think that's about enough for now.
15:06So now we should kind of talk about selecting the objects.
15:15So you can select multiple objects at a time.
15:19By using R2.
15:21So you see if I highlight this object.
15:23And I hit R2.
15:25The bounding box around it turns red.
15:27Which means it's part of a group selection.
15:29And so now I can add to that group selection.
15:32By highlighting objects.
15:34And just hitting R2.
15:35And they become part of that group.
15:37When I hit X.
15:39That group is now selected.
15:40And they can be moved.
15:42Like any normal object.
15:44And I can delete them.
15:45Here by just hitting triangle.
15:47Now the whole group is gone.
15:49I'll just undo that.
15:50To bring them back.
15:52And then now another way.
15:53That you can do a group selection.
15:54If you're holding down R2.
15:57You can move the stick.
15:59And select more or less objects.
16:02You can see that the bounding box changes.
16:04And surrounds any objects that we have selected.
16:09And then again.
16:10Just X to actually grab them.
16:13You can move them as normal.
16:15And delete them with triangle.
16:18And we'll just undo that again.
16:20One more time.
16:21And get those jeeps back.
16:24There we go.
16:27So now one final thing that we can also do.
16:30Is delete all of the same type of object.
16:33So if you have an object selected.
16:35And you hit square.
16:36You'll see here now we've got delete similar objects.
16:39As an option.
16:40Select that.
16:41And confirm.
16:42And there you go.
16:43All jeeps are now gone.
16:46But we do want at least one of our jeeps here.
16:49So we'll just undo that again.
16:51Get them all back.
16:52Just do a quick group selection here.
16:55Get these three selected.
16:58And just get rid of them.
17:00There we go.
17:00So now we just have our van and our jeep.
17:03Bring the van in a little closer here.
17:07Just do another group selection.
17:08To grab them both at once.
17:11And let's bring them over here.
17:13Into our garage.
17:15Let's bring the camera a little closer.
17:17Get these vehicles in there.
17:20Alright.
17:21There we go.
17:21And then again as with any singular object.
17:24Using R2.
17:25We can rotate our group here.
17:28Rotates around the middle.
17:30And just make sure that these vehicles are facing out of the garage.
17:34That way if any of the NPCs or the player wants to grab them.
17:37They can just hop in and start driving.
17:39And they don't have to worry about going backwards or reversing out of the garage.
17:48Alright.
17:49So our vehicles are in place.
17:51Let's go ahead and add in some more interesting stuff.
17:55Let's do some cover.
17:56I think that's some other objects to fill out the map.
18:00So some will grab objects from our menu.
18:03We'll go to containers and crates.
18:06We'll just start here with our animal cage.
18:09And now if you want you can press L2.
18:13And then it's going to add the object to the map.
18:16And select it right away.
18:18So you can continue to manipulate it.
18:21Like so.
18:23So now you can see I no longer have the menu of objects up.
18:26But I do have this object grabbed.
18:29And I can move it.
18:30Rotate it.
18:31And everything just as normal.
18:34So let's place that guy right there.
18:36Alright.
18:37All set.
18:37And see now that I've done that.
18:39I no longer have the objects menu open.
18:42So let's go back into here.
18:44We'll get containers and crates again.
18:46And let's just put some different cover objects around here for the player to use.
18:50So we've got some boxes here.
18:52Let me drop that there.
18:54Let's get something else.
18:55Some different kind of boxes.
18:57They can go under the stairs.
19:00Fill out that area a little bit.
19:03And see what else we've got here we can offer.
19:06Here we go.
19:08Yeah.
19:08I'll be one of these pallets of drugs.
19:12Put one over here.
19:14By this other building.
19:16And switch up to this other pallet of drugs.
19:19And we can put that there.
19:21And maybe something over here as well.
19:24Let's see what else we've got we can use.
19:26Yeah.
19:27Here we go.
19:27We've got some sandbags.
19:28This will do nicely.
19:30I'll just give this a little adjustment.
19:34Maybe rotate that.
19:36Yeah.
19:36There we go.
19:37That's a little better.
19:38Just put that in place.
19:41Alright.
19:41Let's back out now to our selection tool.
19:44And we'll just tweak each of these cover objects now that we have them roughly placed where we want.
19:52We'll just give this guy a little bit of a twist.
19:55A minor adjustment there.
19:58Come over here to our pallets of drugs.
20:02We'll grab our first one.
20:05Give it a bit of a twist.
20:06Move it in nice and close to the building there.
20:11That's pretty good right there.
20:13Alright.
20:14And now we'll grab the last one here.
20:16Again, a little bit of rotation.
20:18Just makes them look a little less rigid and placed on a grid.
20:22And we'll drop them right there.
20:23Alright.
20:24We're all set.
20:26So we've got a pretty big open space out here now in front of our outpost.
20:30So let's go ahead and add some more natural objects here.
20:34So we'll go into nature.
20:35And we'll grab some rocks.
20:37There's lots and lots of different rocks to choose from of all kinds of different sizes.
20:42So let's head down.
20:43We'll find some slightly smaller rocks.
20:46Not quite so gargantuan in size.
20:49This one's alright.
20:50We'll just drop this guy down over here.
20:52We'll get something new.
20:55There we go.
20:56That's a nice one.
20:57Somewhere over here.
20:59We'll give it a little bit of a twist.
21:00Once again with R2.
21:02Get it how we want it.
21:04Alright.
21:05There we go.
21:05I think that's really all we need for the number of rocks.
21:11So now we can also add in some explosive objects.
21:17That will make this whole thing a little more exciting.
21:20So once again let's return to add new objects.
21:23And go into objects.
21:25You can see there on number 6 is explosive props.
21:28So we'll grab the second one here.
21:30The red explosive barrel.
21:32We'll just go in here and place a couple of these around the map.
21:37It can just be a cool thing to have in there.
21:41And then if they get struck during a fire fight they'll explode.
21:45And just make things a little more interesting.
21:47A little more dynamic.
21:48It's good stuff.
21:50So now we'll place this last one here.
21:55Up.
21:56We'll put it up on the balcony here.
21:58On this building.
22:00And I'll tell you why here in just a second.
22:04So that's pretty good.
22:06We'll just give it a little bit of a twist here.
22:10Alright.
22:10And I'm just going to drop it with L2.
22:13So that I have it grabbed now.
22:16So now you'll see that since I placed it up high on this balcony.
22:19That as I move it around it does stay in the center at the reticule like normal objects.
22:24But it's staying at that same height.
22:27It doesn't drop down to the ground.
22:29Or anything like that at all.
22:31And so we'll talk about that option here in a second.
22:35We'll get this little closer to the building.
22:38And so now by holding down R1.
22:42I can now use the left stick to bring this object up or down.
22:49So if you want to specify the height of something you can do that.
22:53Then also you can see here on the left that I can push down on the D-pad.
22:59And it will drop it right down to the surface below.
23:02So in that case the roof.
23:04But over here you can see it will drop all the way down to the terrain underneath.
23:10I'll lift it up again.
23:11Bring it over here to our balcony.
23:14And drop it down on there.
23:15So it'll just snap itself down to whatever the closest surface is down below.
23:22Alright.
23:24We'll put that in its place right there.
23:26And now you can see that I can push right on the D-pad.
23:29And I will duplicate the object.
23:31And then I will have the duplicate here in hand.
23:34And also you'll see here that I can push left on the D-pad to activate this follow terrain.
23:41And so that means now as I move this object around it will follow the surfaces.
23:48So it will move up or down as it hits different objects.
23:51And if I push that again I've now returned to normal movement.
23:55Where it will no longer follow the terrain.
23:58But will instead just move along these axes.
24:01So I'll just get this guy here inside the building.
24:06Alright.
24:10So now we've got cover and we've got explosives and enemies.
24:14And it's time to do some weapons.
24:17So I'll go down to add new objects.
24:19You can see number 6 here is weapons.
24:21I'm going to start with some turrets.
24:23So we've got a couple different kinds of turrets.
24:25So we've got this one here on the tripod.
24:28And now both the player and the AI can make use of these turrets.
24:34So it's good to make sure they're easily accessible.
24:37So I'll put one of these machine gun turrets here.
24:39Let's do another one over here on the roof.
24:43We'll actually use our other kind of turret we have.
24:46Which is this one here without the tripod.
24:49So it's meant to be placed on top of another object.
24:52Like some cover boxes or this here building ledge.
24:57So I'm just going to fine tune the positioning here a little bit.
25:01Make sure that it's down on the ledge.
25:06Not sunk in too far.
25:08Alright, there we go.
25:10That's looking pretty good.
25:12Excellent.
25:14Alright.
25:15So we can place some pickup weapons as well.
25:19So we'll go back into weapons.
25:20And this time into number 2 weapons.
25:22We'll go down.
25:24Let's see here.
25:24What do we got?
25:25We've got this sawed off double barrel shotgun.
25:29So we'll drop this guy just down here on top of this barrel.
25:37Alright.
25:38That'll do.
25:39So you see it's not too natural of a position right now.
25:44It's not how a gun would normally lay.
25:46So you can see by using, by holding down R2.
25:50And I tap L2.
25:52I actually switch between which axis I want to rotate on.
25:56So here I go.
25:57We'll just rotate this.
25:58So it's more of a natural laying down position.
26:02That this gun would actually be in.
26:05Just do a little bit of fine tuning here.
26:07Make sure it's not sunk in or floating too high.
26:14So a little deep.
26:20Alright.
26:21There we go.
26:21That'll do for us for now.
26:23Alright.
26:25And let's head over here.
26:27And we'll place a pick-up.
26:30A pick-up-able gun.
26:31We'll grab a...
26:33Let's see.
26:34We've got the A52 here.
26:36It's a pretty cool assault rifle.
26:38And so we'll put the gun down here.
26:41And let's make it look like it's leaning up against our pallet of drugs here.
26:46So by holding down R2, I go into rotate mode.
26:52And then tapping L2 lets me to switch which axis I'm rotating on.
26:59So we'll just rotate it up like that.
27:02And adjust its position here a little bit.
27:07Alright.
27:08So that's good enough for now.
27:09So now we've got that gun.
27:10Looks like it's leaning up against the pallet.
27:14It's just what we want.
27:15Alright.
27:16So we've got guns.
27:17It's time for some ammo and some pick-ups.
27:19So we'll go here into the folder of the same name.
27:23We'll start out with our ammo pile here.
27:25Which can be used by the player multiple times to gather up some ammo.
27:29And it also explodes when it's shot.
27:32So that's pretty cool.
27:33We definitely want one of those in here.
27:35We'll go over here now to the body armor.
27:37Always a good thing to have.
27:40Just give it a little tweak here.
27:41Rotate it a bit.
27:42There we go.
27:44Now we'll switch here to a health pack.
27:46Another good thing that you want to have in your map.
27:49Keep your players alive.
27:51Let's put this one over here on the other side.
27:53Maybe up here on the roof.
27:55We'll drop this down.
27:58Okay.
27:58And then here we've got our small ammo.
28:02Which is the ammunition used by regular weapons like shotguns, machine guns, assault rifles, and that kind of thing.
28:13Alright.
28:14There we go.
28:15Couple of ammunition in place.
28:18And that's good.
28:24Alright.
28:25So now we've got all that in place.
28:27So we've currently got a little problem going on over here.
28:31See we've got our guy up here on this rooftop.
28:34There's actually no way for him to get off of this rooftop.
28:38Or for the player to get onto it for that matter.
28:42So let's add in a ladder and a ledge.
28:45Our two different methods of allowing both player and AI to get up.
28:50So go add new objects.
28:52Here we've got climbing and navigation.
28:55Here at number four.
28:56We'll grab that.
28:57And we'll start with a ladder.
28:59We'll do this ten step one.
29:01It's pretty much exactly what we're looking for.
29:04Just make sure we rotate it into place.
29:07So that the steps are on the outside of the ladder.
29:10We want it facing the right way.
29:12We'll just tuck it in nice and close to the building for now.
29:16Alright.
29:16And then let's go down to the ledges.
29:18And let's grab one of these here ledges.
29:21And we'll put it over here on the other opening.
29:24On the other side.
29:26We'll just again make sure it's facing the right direction.
29:30Just do some fine adjustments here.
29:32And get it into place.
29:35It's going to be a little bit more of a tweak here.
29:40Alright.
29:41There we go.
29:42And we'll leave it just like that.
29:44Perfect.
29:45So now we've got a couple of different methods for both the player and the AI
29:49to get up onto this rooftop.
29:52This ladder doesn't really look that great right now here with it merged into this ledge.
29:57So I'm just going to check here in our validation.
30:01This is going to tell you anything that's wrong with your map right now.
30:04So we've got a list here.
30:06You can see the mounted weapon area is not clear.
30:10So if I hit X while I have this option selected, I will be brought right to the offending object.
30:18Which is our gun turret here.
30:21So apparently it's not clear.
30:22It needs a little bit of adjusting.
30:23So maybe we'll try bringing it up a bit.
30:28Let's see here.
30:29It seems okay for height.
30:32Let's check it again.
30:33We'll look in validation.
30:35Okay.
30:35So it's still not clear.
30:37So we'll grab it one more time.
30:41This time let's pull it back some.
30:44Let's give it some more space in the rear.
30:49Alright, there we go.
30:50We're all good.
30:52Let's try to check it one more time.
30:54And there we go.
30:55The message is no longer there.
30:56So our gun is in the right place.
30:58And now while the ladder did pass validation, meaning it is usable,
31:03it still doesn't look too great with it merged in like that.
31:06So let's just grab it and give it a nice little pull out like that.
31:11And there we go.
31:14So now let's take a look at our explore option here.
31:18So explore is a little different from play.
31:20And rather than spawning at your spawn point and playing as normal,
31:24you will instead spawn in your current camera position.
31:29As well as by default, you will be both invisible to enemies and invulnerable to any form of damage.
31:37So let's just jump in here.
31:39So yeah, you'll see that I've spawned just right where my camera was.
31:43And if I go up here, you'll see that the enemy does not respond to me in any way.
31:49This is a good way to just make sure your map is looking how you want it to look,
31:53without having to deal with any enemies that you've placed.
31:55Also, in this mode, the map will not end.
32:01So even if you kill everyone in the map, you won't complete it.
32:05And if you have a timer or any other kind of fail condition, those will not be triggered.
32:11The map will play endlessly until you decide to quit.
32:14Also, you're still able to just pick up any of these pickups.
32:18I can grab the health, or I can pick up this shotgun, or grab this ammo.
32:22Everything else works as normal, just with those few minor differences that I've mentioned.
32:28Alright, let's just jump back into the map editor here.
32:33Now, with that all taken care of, let's turn our attention to our grass here for just a moment.
32:39You can see we've just got lots of grass all over here, but also inside our buildings here.
32:45You can see we've got grass growing up through the floor.
32:49We don't really want that.
32:50And we've also potentially got grass growing up through some of our props and stuff here.
32:55So let's go into our terrain tools.
32:57We've got our add vegetation right here.
33:00You can see I've got three types of vegetation already in my pallet,
33:04and then I've got some empty slots.
33:06So just using the D-pad once again, I can increase my radius.
33:11Just get a nice big circle here.
33:14And let's just start by hitting L2, and just getting rid of all of this grass
33:19and all of this vegetation that we have in the way here.
33:22It's just gonna muddy things up right now.
33:26So let's just get it out of the way.
33:28I think most of these trees are okay.
33:31But let's reduce our radius just by a little bit.
33:36Here we go.
33:38And we'll just get rid of just some of these trees here.
33:44Alright.
33:46Cool.
33:47I think that looks pretty good.
33:48Alright.
33:49So that's enough cleared space for now.
33:51But now we can see that our ground is just very uniform.
33:55It's very green.
33:56It's just exactly the same the whole way.
34:00And nothing looks quite that pristine and perfect.
34:03So I think we should see about adding some dirt.
34:07So go back to terrain tools, and this time to our paint texture tool.
34:11Now you can see I've got two textures already in my palette, and two open slots.
34:18We've got grass on the ground, and we've got stone on the cliff up there.
34:24So I'm just gonna reduce my radius.
34:26So I get it nice and small here, so we're not doing too much.
34:31Just cut down the speed by quite a bit, because we don't want it to just go down solid instantly.
34:39And our hardness and distortion, which just give it a nice kind of feathered edge.
34:44So it's not a hard line where the two textures transition from one to another.
34:50So I'm just gonna select one of my empty slots here.
34:53We'll go down and find some nice dirt to use.
35:00Okay, here we go.
35:01We've got dirt and rocks here in this one.
35:03That looks good.
35:04So we'll grab that.
35:06I'm just gonna start over here.
35:09You can see if I paint down, you just get a nice little patch of rocky dirt.
35:17I'll just get rid of that for now.
35:19I'm gonna start by just painting some of this around our objects.
35:28So we'll start with the rock here.
35:30It just helps it kind of stand out from the rest of the terrain.
35:34It just gives it a little bit of pop by adding some rocky dirt here around it.
35:42So we'll do that.
35:45Increase my radius again by a little bit and come over here to our building.
35:50So, you just kind of want to use your, you know, logic for where you're gonna be placing your dirt.
35:55Anywhere that people move around.
35:57So around buildings and objects, especially right in front of doors and the like here.
36:03Anywhere where there's gonna be foot traffic and there'll be people moving around, tearing up the grass and all of
36:10that.
36:11Then you'll want to add in some dirt here.
36:13There's another door.
36:14So we'll add that.
36:15We'll make a little path coming out from that door.
36:18Here at the base of the ladder as well.
36:22Okay, there we go.
36:25And once again, over here too at the garage, we've got vehicles.
36:29And vehicles as they drive in and out are gonna tear up that grass as well.
36:33So, we'll throw in some dirt and rocks here.
36:36Make that look nice and roughed up.
36:42And we'll go around the perimeter of the building as well.
36:46We've got another door here at the back.
36:48So we'll make sure that gets a bit of dirt.
36:51And let's even put a little path out from that door again as well.
36:55There we go.
36:57It's nice and quick.
36:57Well, let's also put a path in the front where the vehicles themselves have actually driven in and torn up
37:05that grass.
37:08Cool.
37:08There we go.
37:09We'll move on to our next building here.
37:11We've got the bottom of the stairs and the door here.
37:15We'll get a bunch of dirt there.
37:17We can go under here around our boxes and around our turret.
37:23Get some more around the perimeter of this building.
37:25And once again, around our objects that we have placed here.
37:28Our pallets and the like.
37:31Here.
37:32Put it in front of the door.
37:34Just get all of this nice and roughed up.
37:39Just gives it a good lived-in look.
37:44Okay.
37:46That building's pretty good.
37:50Do this pallet a little bit more.
37:53Do this rock as well once again.
37:55Just helps it pop out from the environment a little bit.
37:58And everything doesn't look quite so bland.
38:02Okay.
38:03That's pretty good.
38:03We've got a good amount of dirt around our objects there.
38:07Oh!
38:07We've missed the little shack here.
38:10So we'll throw some dirt down under there.
38:13Cool.
38:14Okay.
38:14I'm going to reduce my radius a little bit.
38:16Let's create some pathways here.
38:18And now let's just kind of rough up the area a little bit more.
38:22Just kind of generally around the outpost.
38:25So again, just giving it a nice lived-in look.
38:27And just makes it seem as though people have really, you know,
38:31moved around this area and actually exist here.
38:35And it's not just a fresh, pristine environment that suddenly has a gunfight in it.
38:48coming on in there and doing a tarot I guess.
38:49Another little path here.
38:52Go up on the little bit on the ledge.
39:04Okay.
39:05Cool.
39:05All right.
39:06I think, ah, there we have it.
39:08That's about as much, ah, dirt.
39:11and then we'll do another little bit here. Let's create a path out into the woods.
39:20A little bit more around here.
39:27Cool. All right, I think that's going to do.
39:30So now let's go back to our cliff face texture here.
39:34You can see we've got some kind of tall cliffs here that are still using a grassy texture.
39:40So we'll come here and adjust this minimum slope parameter.
39:44And that means that it's only going to apply the texture to terrain that is at least at a 20
39:49degree slope now.
39:51So you can see I'm painting here and adding the texture,
39:56and so it will apply itself to these sharper parts, the more vertical parts of the cliff.
40:02But any of the little bits that are a little flatter or as it flattens out near the ground or
40:07near the top,
40:08it will not apply the texture. So it gives you an easy way to paint down a cliff without accidentally
40:17painting the ground or the top of it in a way that you don't want to.
40:25Okay. Now, let's go back and do some more vegetation.
40:32So we'll go back in here. You see I've got three. I've got grass, bushes, and trees.
40:37So let's just stick on grass right now and I'll reduce my brush radius, nice and small.
40:42We'll just go in here and re-add the grass to anywhere where we've got the nice open grassy spaces.
40:50Over here as well and just everywhere.
40:53You don't want to paint the grass over top of our dirt texture here.
40:58You want to make sure that we can see the dirt through the grass.
41:02But if you get a little bit of grass on the dirt, that's no big deal.
41:05It's all good. Nothing's perfect. It even helps it look a little more natural.
41:09Even if you miss, you know, some green areas with the grass, that's fine as well.
41:16It doesn't need to be exactly right. We just want to show that we've got grass where the grass texture
41:23is and not where the dirt texture is.
41:26Now also you can see we've got some grass growing through this cliff face texture.
41:32We don't want that either. Grass doesn't grow through stone.
41:35So we'll just quickly get rid of that as well.
41:39Make that look a little more normal.
41:42Alright, cool. That's pretty good.
41:45So I'm going to go now over to, oops, I got a square brush accidentally there.
41:49I'm just going to go over to bushes now and just keep filling in our open spaces here.
41:55Just now with some grass and bushes. It's a little bit different.
42:01We'll just kind of go a little more around the outskirts with our bushes here.
42:07Go along our path a little bit here.
42:11And just once again filling in any of these areas.
42:16Got nice vegetation all over our map.
42:25Okay, and now we'll do trees.
42:27Switch up and just put these trees kind of back over here where the forest was.
42:36Just add some more over here.
42:41Make it a little more dense over here as well.
42:48Okay.
42:52Yeah, I think that looks pretty good.
42:53We've got a good amount of trees and a good amount of grass and bushes and stuff.
42:58And we've avoided the dirt.
43:00So I think we're good.
43:01So now I'll show you.
43:03So if I select the trees that I've already placed here in my palette.
43:08I'll go in here and select something different.
43:11Let's select these red trees here.
43:14Give that a second to rework.
43:16And now you'll see that all of those trees that I've previously put in place have changed to the new
43:22palette.
43:22But as you can see this red doesn't really work here.
43:26So I'm just going to undo that.
43:27But that's just a really easy way to quick change any of the vegetation you've placed.
43:33So you can kind of try some different looks without too much more work.
43:36Okay.
43:37So remember that we placed these couple of guys here in our first wave.
43:43And they exist right as soon as the map starts.
43:46And then we also have our reinforcements over here.
43:49Our grey mannequins that spawn when the alarm is rung.
43:52But we can also add something else pretty cool.
43:55Which is our vehicle reinforcements.
43:57So I'll go here and back into our add AI to a reinforcement wave.
44:01And scroll all the way to the bottom.
44:04And you'll see we've got a bunch of vehicles here that we can pick from.
44:08And so these are vehicles that spawn with enemy AI already in them and all ready to go.
44:13So you don't have to worry about them finding a vehicle to use.
44:18So I'm just going to put one of these guys here.
44:20And it's really important to orient vehicle reinforcements in the direction you want them to drive right away.
44:26So they don't have to orient themselves after they spawn.
44:30And now the next thing we want to put in is a road for our vehicle guy here.
44:35So under terrain we've got our road tool.
44:38You can see we've already got one set up there in our pallet.
44:42So let's just make a nice road for this guy to come along.
44:46A path.
44:47So we'll start here at the garage.
44:49If I hold down R2.
44:53And I can draw this first line.
44:55This first segment of my road.
44:58And after that, now I just need to tap R2.
45:01Kind of wherever I want the next little node for the road.
45:06And it will just automatically connect it to the nearest one.
45:10Now you'll see there as I added this road through the woods that it actually removed the trees that were
45:17there.
45:17And that's because no vegetation can exist on a road.
45:21So you don't have to worry about avoiding it or anything like that.
45:25So then also using R2, I can move these points like this.
45:30You see?
45:31Or I can add a new point in the middle with R2 as well.
45:36So let's just give these little adjustments.
45:39Get a nice, smooth looking road.
45:45A little bit here.
45:46Even as I move it, you can see that vegetation underneath is removed.
45:51Alright.
45:52So now, just like the vegetation, we can actually go into the one that's already set up and give it
45:59a new look.
46:00And it will just automatically update with that.
46:03There's no need to replace the road or adjust it.
46:06It will just get the new look.
46:07Just like that.
46:09We'll change it here to this footpath.
46:11And as you can see, it's all set up.
46:14No need to replace the road.
46:16So you can try a bunch of different looks if you would like.
46:21And now, I want to show you our modifiers.
46:24Which are some pretty cool little things we have added to really change up the way that your map works.
46:31And the things that the player can do within the map you've made.
46:35So we'll go into it here.
46:36Edit map.
46:38So you can see I can change the player's inventory.
46:41Which are the weapons that they will spawn into the map with.
46:45Melee, throwables, empty slots.
46:47Almost whatever you want, really.
46:49So let's just go ahead and assign them this stealth rifle here.
46:53You can also change up their skills too.
46:56We'll just leave that at basic.
46:58And we'll also turn on infinite ammo here.
47:01There's lots of cool modifiers to check out.
47:03So definitely make sure you go through them when you're working on your map.
47:07So now let's look at the editor settings right here.
47:10And go in.
47:11You can see we can modify our camera speed and scroll.
47:15Kind of turn on or off lots of things.
47:17But let's show you the nav mesh here.
47:19First I'm going to start with the character.
47:21So you can see we've got this blue plane that gets put on here.
47:26And that displays everywhere that NPCs can go.
47:31So up the stairs, inside the building here, and all over.
47:36And anywhere you see kind of a dark line is where the NPCs will not be able to go.
47:44So now we'll switch over to vehicle.
47:46I can show you that.
47:47So now you can see that the space is given around all the objects is more.
47:53It's bigger spaces.
47:54I want to make sure that the vehicles don't hit objects.
47:57So they get a little more leeway.
47:59So what I'm going to do here is I'm just going to do group select.
48:02Just make sure I grab both of these objects.
48:04I'm just going to give them a bit of a move here.
48:07And so now if we just give it a second, the nav mesh will automatically update.
48:12So you don't need to worry about telling it to do that or anything.
48:16It will just automatically make sure that your nav mesh is updated as it should be.
48:22I'll just go ahead and turn that off now.
48:26Now another cool thing we have for you to add is animals.
48:31So if we go back to our add AI here, we've got animals and allies here as a section.
48:36We'll down and grab animals now.
48:38Once again, there's just a ton of different animals that we can pick from while doing this.
48:43So let's start here with some chickens.
48:47Chickens are pretty cute. Everybody likes those.
48:49We'll drop a couple of these guys here around the environment.
48:54Now let's drop in an attack dog.
48:57I'll put him over here with this guy.
49:00Just give him a bit of a twist there.
49:02Alright, cool.
49:04Alright, what else do we got here?
49:06Let's check out some further down.
49:08Oh, here we go. We've got the honey badger.
49:10Let's go and drop the honey badger over here in the woods.
49:14Because honey badger don't care. It's a good place for him.
49:18And yeah, let's see what else do we have we can do in.
49:21Oh, okay. See how we've got this cage over here under our little shack.
49:26Why don't we go ahead and put an animal inside that cage.
49:29Something vicious.
49:31Here we go. We've got a leopard.
49:32These guys are pretty wild.
49:35So we'll put him here in the cage.
49:38Alright, there we go.
49:41Good stuff.
49:42Now with our animals in place, we want to put in something a little different.
49:47We'll go over here to our animation points.
49:49We've got some different options here, but I want to choose one for the animals.
49:53And so this is just a specified location where the specified character is going to go and perform an animation.
50:02So let's do one for the attack dog.
50:04We'll just put it over here.
50:06We'll give it a bit of a rotation and you'll see that it has a little arrow there.
50:10that points where the character is going to face when they're actually using this animation point.
50:17Now let's go down to one for characters.
50:20We've got this sit ground with eat and drink here.
50:23So let's drop it right here next to this guy for him.
50:28Let's put one up here on the roof for this guy as well.
50:31Let's do this taking pictures one.
50:33Give it a little twist there so he's facing out from the roof.
50:36Now let's select it here and I'm going to press square to get into its options.
50:42I'm going to go down to the animation point options.
50:45So you see we've got duration, which is how long the character is going to stay at this point performing
50:52this animation.
50:53Then we have the cooldown, which is how long this animation point is unusable after it has just been used.
51:00And then the faction, of course, will determine whether allies, enemies, or both can make use of this animation point.
51:10So we'll come over here. We'll make a couple of small adjustments to this one as well.
51:15Just give it a bit of a longer duration.
51:19Okay, cool. Yeah, I think that'll do just nicely.
51:23Okay, so that's cool. So we've got some animation points here for animals and for the NPCs as well.
51:31So that's great.
51:36Just going to bring myself down a little closer to the ground here.
51:40And then holding down our three, I can push up to go back into that explore mode we discussed earlier.
51:48So here we are. We're in the map.
51:51You can see that guy walking right over to that point.
51:57And there he goes. He's going to have a seat on the ground there.
52:02Yeah, excellent. Oh, there you go. He's got a bottle of beer.
52:06He's just going to enjoy that by himself.
52:08Oh, and there's our dog. He's also attached to his idle animation point, so that's great.
52:14How about this guy on the roof? Well, looks like he's decided that the machine gun is a more valid
52:21spot for him right now, but that's just fine.
52:24All right. Perfect.
52:28Just going to go back into the map editor now.
52:34Okay, and that is it. Congratulations. We have just completed our first basic outpost.
52:40So what we want to do now is publish our map online.
52:45So to do that, first we have to check our validation one more time.
52:48So we'll go here and take a look.
52:50You can see we've met all the specifications.
52:53All of our boxes are green, so we are good to go.
52:57We'll bounce over here to publish.
53:00Jump in.
53:02Okay, so we'll leave the name as it is for now.
53:04We can also give it a real simple description from some canned descriptions here.
53:10So we'll just select village, and then we'll publish.
53:13And so publish is going to put your map up online for other players to download via the map browser.
53:20I'm not actually going to publish this particular map right now.
53:23I don't want to put this up online.
53:26But yeah, that's where everyone will be able to see your work and enjoy your map.
53:31So now let's go ahead and play.
53:34So here's our intro screen.
53:36It will give you the objective as well as outline the modifiers that you have active.
53:41Here's our outpost.
