00:22Hello and welcome to the Far Cry 4 map editor tutorial.
00:27In this first tutorial, I'm just going to show you how to create a simple basic outpost.
00:34Alright, so we'll go here, we'll create a new map.
00:38When we make a new map, we've got a couple of decisions to make.
00:41We've got to pick the mission objective and the terrain type.
00:46So for mission objectives, we have assault, hunt, outpost, and extraction.
00:51So we want to select outpost.
00:53And under terrain type, you can see we've got a couple of different mountains and a couple of different islands.
00:59So we'll just select some regular mountains.
01:02Click OK.
01:03Let that do its thing.
01:05Okay, so here we are in our newly generated map.
01:11I'm just going to take a look around here, see if I can find a good spot to start building.
01:19I think this looks as good as any.
01:23Nice open space, not too close to any edges.
01:28Alright, I'm just going to come down here now to editor settings and turn off show fog.
01:34It just clears things up a little bit, especially from a distance, just makes it easier to work.
01:39Alright, so the first step is to flatten out the area.
01:46We'll make it a lot easier to work with.
01:48So I'm going to come up here to the flatten tool.
01:51I'm just going to leave the parameters as they are.
01:53And the way this works is it will set the height of the terrain to wherever it is you started
02:00holding down the mouse button.
02:02So you see if I come in here and start flattening, we just get a nice, even, uniform area.
02:13So I'm just going to flatten out a nice, big area.
02:17Do one here for the outpost and just stretch it on out.
02:24We want to do some surrounding areas as well.
02:32Just give ourselves a nice, big, big space to work in.
02:42And you'll see the vegetation that's placed will actually move with the terrain as I flatten it.
02:54Alright, there we go.
02:56It's a nice, big space for us to work with.
03:01And there we have it.
03:03So now, you can see here I've got a lot of these harsh, sharp cliffs along the edges now.
03:14So I want to take the smooth tool here, once again, just leaving the parameters as they are.
03:20And I'll just run this around the edge of the area that I just flattened.
03:26And it'll just get rid of these harsh, sharp angles and just leave us with a lot more of a
03:32natural, organic-looking slope.
03:37Just do all of this around here as well.
03:45And alright, there we go.
03:47That looks good.
03:49So now, the next thing that I want to do is I just want to clear up this grass and
03:54stuff that's here.
03:55It'll just make it easier to work with.
03:56I won't have to worry about it going up through any of the objects that I place.
04:01So I'm going to come up here to the Add Vegetation tool.
04:05Select that.
04:06And just, for now, just grab anything.
04:08It doesn't really matter.
04:09Now, you'll see if I hold Control that the circle goes from white to black.
04:17That means that I will now be removing vegetation, rather than adding it.
04:24So let's come along here, get rid of all of this.
04:29Do the side of the cliff as well.
04:32Get rid of some of these trees.
04:35Just clean up that whole area.
04:40So we've got a nice, clean slate to work with.
04:49Alright.
04:50There we go.
04:52Now, with that done, let's start building our outpost.
04:56So up here is the Add tool.
04:59This is where we'll be adding most of the objects into our map.
05:04Buildings, covers, weapons, the whole nine yards.
05:07Almost everything is here in the Add tool.
05:09So we've got a couple of buttons across the top here.
05:12We're just going to leave objects selected.
05:14And we're going to stay here in the Small Buildings category.
05:18There's lots and lots of buildings in here.
05:21So I'm just going to grab a couple that I know and like.
05:26And just place them here into our map.
05:32Garage for a little variety there.
05:38Now we're going to step up to the large buildings.
05:41So again, there's lots of them in here.
05:44So I'm just going to grab one that I like.
05:50Look at there.
05:51We've got a little bit of open space left there.
05:53So I'm going to come down into Chortons, Stupas, and Statues.
05:58And pick this guy here, which I believe is a prayer wheel.
06:04And just put them right there.
06:06All right.
06:06So now that I have roughly placed my buildings here,
06:12I just want to grab the Move tool.
06:16And just do some fine tweaking to them.
06:18So now when I select an object with the Move tool,
06:21you'll see I get these different axes.
06:24And I can grab the arrow and move the object along that axis.
06:31Or I can click and hold on the object itself,
06:35which just allows me to drag the object around.
06:40Now, if I hold down Control with the Move tool selected,
06:44I gain access to the rotational axes.
06:48This allows me to rotate the object along those.
06:53So I'm just going to grab each of these objects,
06:57give them a little rotation, and move them into place.
07:09And there we go.
07:11Looking good.
07:13Now you'll see I'm zooming in and out quite a lot.
07:16Now you can just use the scroll wheel to do that.
07:21Or you can use the WASD controls to move the camera around as well.
07:29All right.
07:30So now that we have our buildings in place,
07:34I'm just going to go in and add some cover objects.
07:37So back into Add,
07:40we'll stay in Objects.
07:41And this time I'm going to pick from the Containers and Crates folder.
07:47There's lots in here,
07:48and there's lots of stuff to choose from in the other folders as well.
07:51But I'm just going to start here.
07:54We'll drop in there.
07:58This guy up here.
08:01Add some sandbags up there.
08:05And we just need one more thing.
08:08Here we go.
08:09How about some stacks of opium?
08:15There they are.
08:16All right.
08:17And once again,
08:17I'm just going to grab the Move tool
08:19and just do some fine tweaking to our objects here.
08:26Giving them a little twist like this just makes them seem a little more organic,
08:31a little more naturally placed.
08:33They don't look like they all line up with some kind of grid this way.
08:42So now, you'll see now that we've placed some objects into our map,
08:47if you take a look down here at the object budget,
08:50you'll see we've taken just a wee little bite out of our meter here.
08:54Now, this bar represents the number of objects that we can have placed in our map
09:02just by a point system.
09:05And it's a good thing to keep an eye on.
09:07It will let you know just how many more things you can put in your map
09:12before you run out of budget.
09:14Right now, we've barely used any of it,
09:16so we've got space for a lot more objects.
09:21And with our cover in place,
09:23I'm just going to take us through a couple of different kinds of objects
09:27that we can add into our maps.
09:29So, first off, I'm going to add some explosive props.
09:34So, under here, we've got explosive barrels, propane tanks,
09:38all the things that you'd expect.
09:40Now, if I click this Add Multiple Objects button,
09:43that will allow me to add multiple copies of the same object
09:47without having to go back into the inventory and select it each time.
09:52So, let's just drop in a couple of explosive barrels there.
09:59and how about a couple of propane tanks over there.
10:04Cool, that's enough of those.
10:06That's all we really need.
10:07So, next, how about some fire?
10:11So, under Lighting and Fire here,
10:13I'm just going to scroll down
10:15and select the Roasting Spit.
10:19And you can see that it already has an active flame and smoke effect going on it.
10:25So, we'll put that right there.
10:28Now, the next thing we want to think about
10:30is we want to make sure that players and NPCs
10:34have access to these rooftops up here.
10:38So, we'll do that in a couple of different ways.
10:40First, with a ladder.
10:43So, here under Climbing and Navigation,
10:45they have their own section
10:46and a 12-step ladder is exactly what we're looking for.
10:51So, I'm just going to come in close here.
10:56Place the ladder down.
10:59Once again, with the Move tool,
11:02rotate it
11:03and move it into place.
11:09So, there we go.
11:11Now, you'll see it's really very close to the building right now
11:15and we'll just want to make sure that that's okay.
11:17So, I'm going to come up here
11:19and click on our Map Validation button.
11:21This will tell us if there's any problems with the map.
11:24You can see
11:26everything looks good
11:28so we're all set.
11:32Now, the next thing
11:34we want to do
11:36is put in
11:39a climbable ledge.
11:41A different method of getting up
11:43to this rooftop.
11:48Put that in place.
11:50Once again, using the Move tool,
11:53rotate it
11:54and position it.
12:00Now, I'm using the Control key
12:03to modify the tools
12:06that I'm using
12:07to go between moving and rotating.
12:10If you ever get confused about that
12:12or want to know what kind of options you have,
12:14you can come down here
12:15to the Context Help tab.
12:18Click on that
12:18and you can see right here
12:20that it will break down
12:21all the control options that you have.
12:23What a click does,
12:24what a drag does,
12:25what shift or control will do
12:27if you hold that down.
12:29So, it's a good place to look
12:30to see just what kind of options you have
12:33with the controls.
12:35Back to our budgets there.
12:38Alright.
12:40The next thing we're going to take a look at
12:42is vehicles.
12:44So, let's come over here
12:45to our garage,
12:47a logical place for vehicles to be.
12:50Go back into Add
12:52and here under Vehicles
12:54we've got Mobile Vehicles
12:56which are ones that can be driven.
12:59So, let's put a couple of these.
13:01We've got this little civilian car
13:04and how about
13:06a jeep with a mounted machine gun.
13:09That's pretty cool.
13:10So, we'll put that in place
13:12and once again
13:14position them
13:16in a little more normal way.
13:19Now,
13:20when rotating and positioning vehicles
13:22you'll want to make sure
13:23that they are
13:24rotated and placed
13:26in such a way
13:27that they are facing
13:28in the direction
13:29that they can just drive.
13:31that way
13:32if NPCs
13:33or the player
13:34decide to hop in
13:35and go
13:35they can
13:36just hit the pedal
13:38they don't have to worry about
13:39backing out of the garage
13:41or
13:42orienting themselves
13:43to the right direction.
13:44They're just all set to go.
13:46Alright.
13:47There we go.
13:48Those are in
13:49in position.
13:50So, now we've got
13:51a bunch of buildings
13:52and things like that
13:53but
13:54we don't really have
13:55a lot of naturally occurring
13:57objects in our scene.
13:59So, we'll go back
14:00into add
14:01and here under nature
14:04we'll just put in
14:05some nice sized rocks.
14:07There's a ton of rocks
14:09in this folder
14:09lots to choose from
14:11so I'm just going to
14:12put in
14:13a couple that
14:14I am familiar with.
14:16Drop this guy down
14:17over here
14:18and put this guy
14:22up there
14:25and another
14:27over here
14:30and one last one
14:35down there.
14:36Cool.
14:37There we go.
14:38Give them a little tweak
14:40if they feel they need it.
14:46And there we have them.
14:49So, now
14:50we just want to take a look
14:51at our validation
14:52here once again
14:54and see if we are
14:55missing anything.
14:56We can look here
14:57under the
14:58Criteria section
14:59and that will tell us
15:01all the things
15:02that we need
15:03for this map
15:04to work.
15:04One of those things here
15:06is the alarm.
15:07We need at least one
15:08and we currently
15:09have none.
15:10If we double click
15:11that entry
15:12it will actually
15:13take us
15:13right where we need
15:14to be
15:15to place that
15:16which is here
15:17in the Add tool
15:18under Gameplay Objects
15:20and here's the alarm.
15:22Perfect.
15:23We'll just drop that
15:24right here
15:25by the stairs
15:26and just give it
15:29a little tweak.
15:33Awesome.
15:34We're all set there.
15:36So now
15:37if we go back
15:38into the validation
15:39you can see
15:40that we now
15:41have one alarm
15:42and it has gone green
15:44signaling that
15:45it is all
15:46good to go.
15:48Now
15:49you can see
15:50I've left
15:51kind of a bit of
15:52an open area
15:53right here
15:53and that
15:54is for
15:55our road.
15:56So if I come up here
15:58select the road tool
16:00asphalt is just fine.
16:02I'm going to increase
16:04the road width
16:04by a couple of meters
16:06and then I'm going to
16:07click here
16:08to select
16:08the draw tool
16:09which just allows me
16:11to draw down
16:12the path of the road
16:13that I desire.
16:14So we'll start
16:15a good distance
16:16out of our outpost here
16:19and just bring
16:20that road
16:22right on in
16:24and through.
16:27Just keep drawing.
16:32There we go.
16:33That looks pretty good.
16:35I've got a couple of points
16:36that are a little too close here
16:37so if I
16:39take the select tool here
16:41I can grab those
16:44and just move them around
16:45a little bit
16:48give the road
16:49more of the shape
16:51that I'm after.
16:54Cool.
16:54That looks good.
16:56The next thing
16:57we want to take a look at
16:58is somewhere
16:59for our player
17:00to spawn.
17:01It's nice for the player
17:02to have a good
17:04overlook
17:05of what they're
17:06going to be
17:07getting themselves
17:08into to start with.
17:09So let's create
17:10just a little overlook
17:12right here.
17:15Flatten that out
17:16once again.
17:19Grab the smooth tool
17:21get rid of these
17:23sharp harsh cliffs
17:26one more time
17:28and there we go.
17:31now we'll come up
17:33into the
17:34add tool
17:35one more time
17:36and you can see
17:37that we're still
17:38in the gameplay
17:39object section
17:40which is perfect
17:41because here is
17:42our player spawn point.
17:44So we'll just drop
17:45that right here
17:46on the edge
17:48and give it
17:49a little spin
17:50to make sure
17:51that the player
17:51comes in
17:52facing
17:53the right direction.
17:55Excellent.
17:58Now
17:58if you take a look
18:00at the textures
18:01in our area
18:02you can see
18:03everything
18:03looks really
18:04really green
18:05even along
18:06the sides
18:06of the cliffs
18:07and stuff here
18:08so we want
18:08to take care
18:09of that.
18:10So I'm going
18:10to come back
18:11up here
18:13and select
18:13our texture
18:14painter
18:16just right there
18:17see we've got
18:18grass and rocks
18:20right now
18:20which is
18:21that's good
18:21that's all we need
18:22I'm just gonna
18:23select the
18:25rocky cliffs
18:26and just paint
18:29along here
18:32to just make
18:33these look
18:34more like
18:35a proper cliff
18:40that it could go
18:43alright
18:45that's much
18:46better
18:47let's take a look
18:48around
18:48I don't think
18:49anything else
18:50really needs
18:51it that much
18:54so we're all
18:55good to go
18:56there
18:57now the next
18:59thing
18:59is the outpost
19:00itself
19:01again
19:01really green
19:02lots of grass
19:03no one's grass
19:05is that perfect
19:06so we want
19:07to add in
19:07some dirt
19:08add ourselves
19:10a new texture
19:11and we'll grab
19:12the grassland
19:13ground
19:13right there
19:14so with that
19:16selected
19:16I'm just gonna
19:17decrease my radius
19:18down to 2
19:20I'm gonna
19:21bump up
19:22the hardness
19:23and the speed
19:24to maximum
19:25while bumping
19:26up the distortion
19:28to halfway
19:30now this is just
19:31a nice little
19:32starting setting
19:33you can play
19:34around with those
19:35to find one
19:36that you like
19:36but I find
19:37this is a good
19:38place to start
19:39it gets
19:40the texture down
19:41nice and quick
19:42but leaves a
19:43feathery edge
19:44so it's not
19:44too harsh
19:45now I'm just
19:46gonna place
19:47some dirt
19:48here
19:49around each
19:50of our
19:51objects
19:52that we've
19:52put into
19:53the map
19:55there we go
19:56and then you
19:57also just
19:58want to use
19:59some basic
20:00common sense
20:01when it comes
20:01to putting
20:02the dirt
20:02down
20:02so anywhere
20:03where the grass
20:04would be
20:04ripped up
20:05like here
20:06in the garage
20:07the vehicles
20:08are gonna be
20:08coming and
20:09going
20:09from this
20:10area
20:10so they'll
20:10rip up
20:11that grass
20:12quite a bit
20:12also we tend
20:14to build fires
20:15somewhere that's
20:16dirt
20:17not grass
20:18so we'll give
20:19that a nice
20:19little area
20:20there
20:20and then
20:21just anywhere
20:22where there's
20:23gonna be foot
20:24traffic
20:24like around
20:25our prayer
20:26wheel here
20:26and around
20:28any buildings
20:29especially
20:30in front
20:30of doors
20:33and at
20:34the base
20:34of stairs
20:35that in
20:37make a little
20:39path
20:39there
20:40to our
20:41fire
20:42pit
20:43there
20:43we go
20:44and then
20:45you just
20:45generally
20:45wanna
20:46rough up
20:47the area
20:48a little
20:48bit
20:48once again
20:49just using
20:50common sense
20:51anywhere
20:51where there
20:51might be
20:52some foot
20:52traffic
20:53we'll just
20:54throw in
20:55a bit
20:56of dirt
20:58oh
20:58there we go
20:59that looks
20:59more
21:00natural
21:01more lived
21:02in
21:03so now
21:04we wanna
21:04take a look
21:05at vegetation
21:06once again
21:07going back
21:08up to our
21:08add vegetation
21:09button
21:10you can see
21:11we've got
21:12grass
21:12bushes
21:13and trees
21:14that's perfect
21:15it's exactly
21:15what we want
21:16i'm gonna select
21:17the grass
21:18and once again
21:19i'm gonna decrease
21:20my radius
21:21down
21:21to two
21:24now
21:24i'm just gonna
21:25put in grass
21:27in and around
21:28the outpost
21:30and aware
21:30we did
21:31not
21:31place in
21:33dirt
21:34now if you get a little bit of grass into the dirt
21:36or you miss grassy areas
21:38that's not the end of the world
21:42just helps to keep things
21:44looking consistent
21:46go around the edges here
21:51adding in our grass
21:56cool
21:57that looks good
21:58so next i'm gonna select the bushes
22:00i'm gonna bump up my radius by a couple of meters
22:04and just drop in some of these more denser bushes
22:10around the outskirts of the grass
22:12i think that's all we really need for that
22:15so lastly i'm gonna grab the trees
22:17and i'm gonna bump up my radius
22:20all the way back to eight meters
22:22and i'm just gonna start
22:24painting trees in all over the place
22:26now you'll see i don't have to worry about
22:29painting vegetation
22:30here on
22:32on the road
22:33because the road will actually prevent vegetation
22:36from
22:37spawning
22:38in its area
22:39so
22:40that's great
22:42now
22:42other objects and buildings will not do that
22:45so you'll have to make sure to
22:47to not
22:49place vegetation so that you've got trees growing up
22:52through your houses and rocks and things
22:57i'm just gonna fill
22:59this whole area
23:00with trees
23:02just make sure
23:05our outpost is completely surrounded
23:08i'm also gonna add some up here
23:11the player spawn is
23:19and there we go
23:20that looks pretty good for vegetation
23:22now that we have our outpost all set up
23:25it's time to add in some bad guys
23:29so if we go up here to the add ai tool
23:31you can see we've got wave one selected
23:35which are the guys that will start out
23:37spawned in our map
23:39once again there's a whole ton of different guys in here
23:42i'm just gonna place in some basic
23:44army dudes
23:45so we'll put an assaulter down here
23:49we've got a berserker
23:51we can place over by the prayer wheel
23:56the beheader over here by the drugs
23:59and we'll put a defender here
24:02by the fire
24:06now you can see that some of our wave one budget is now being used by this purple section of
24:15the bar
24:16that's the ai characters that we just placed down each wave has its own budget so the enemies you place
24:23in that wave will take up the budget from that particular wave
24:27you'll also notice that there's a little blue chunk taken from each of the waves
24:33that is actually from our vehicles here that we placed before
24:37vehicles also need ai
24:39and they can exist kind of at any time
24:42we don't know when they will or won't be there
24:45so they take a little bit out of every wave
24:48so that's a good thing to keep an eye on
24:51when you're placing your ai characters
24:54so the next thing we want to place to
24:57kind of make the most of our ai we have in here
25:01is animation points
25:02once again under the add tool
25:05we'll grab that
25:06we have some different options here
25:08we're just going to grab the ones for characters
25:11there's a ton of variety in here
25:13i'm just gonna
25:15use the generic idle and the guard for simplicity's sake
25:19so i'll take the idle and we'll put one
25:22down by the fire
25:24maybe over here by the alarm
25:27we want to entice
25:29some guys over to our explosives
25:31so we'll put one there
25:33and i'll put one over here
25:34by the prayer wheel as well
25:37and i'll switch up to the guards for some variety
25:41and i'll put one here by the drugs
25:44and one over here by our other explosive barrel
25:47now something else that we've got is animation points with an object already included
25:54now this will make sure that the npc interacts with this object when they use this animation point
26:03so i'm going to place in a couple of chairs around here
26:11now what each of these are going to do is they're going to attract the npc to them where they
26:18will play a specified animation
26:21so i'll position these so they're facing the fire
26:26you'll see these orange ones that have no object
26:30they have a little arrow sticking from them
26:33that will indicate the direction that the npc will face when they are using that animation point
26:40so we'll give each of these a little tweak
26:47make sure he's facing the prayer wheel
26:51make sure our guard is watching down the road
26:58okay there we go
26:59now the last thing we want to take care of for our enemies
27:03is reinforcements
27:05so if we go back into the ai tool here
27:09and under wave we select reinforcement
27:12if you scroll down
27:14you can now see that we've got vehicle reinforcements
27:18now these are vehicles that will spawn with enemies already attached and ready to go
27:24each of these includes the name of the vehicle
27:27and then the number of npcs that are going to be spawned with it
27:31so how about we start with a couple of guys on a quad
27:36we'll spawn them down this way
27:41and then down on this end
27:45how about a truck
27:49with three guys in it
27:52we'll put that down here
27:55so now it's important to make sure
27:59that since these guys are spawning in vehicles
28:02that they spawn in facing the right direction
28:05just like our other vehicles we want to make sure that they are ready to go
28:10as soon as they spawn in they don't have to worry about backing up or reorienting themselves
28:17to face the correct direction
28:20those guys are looking good
28:23and we also want to make sure that the player does not see them spawn in
28:27so if we go back to objects here
28:30we're still in rocks which is perfect
28:32i'm just going to scroll back down
28:35and i'm just going to place a couple of big rocks
28:39down in front of these spawn points
28:43which will just make sure that the player doesn't see them pop in
28:47now there's lots of trees and vegetation around already
28:50which helps that cause
28:51but these rocks will really just double up the effort
28:57so now also
28:59npcs that come in especially ones on vehicles
29:02will opt to drive along the road
29:06now they will be able to move or drive around any of this open space
29:10but they will opt for the road if possible
29:13so it's good to have one of those in place to bring them to your outpost
29:19now a final touch we want to add in involving ai is some ambient ai
29:25and this is allies or animals that you can place around the area that are non hostile
29:31we've got a ton of animals here in far cry
29:34so let's put in some cool ones
29:37how about some monkeys monkeys are pretty sweet
29:40place in some of those
29:44we've got some goats here
29:46we'll put these goat guys around
29:51maybe one more up there
29:52and how about something big
29:55like a rhino
29:56yeah that's pretty cool
29:58let's drop in a rhino back here
30:02cool and so that will just add some extra life
30:05to the map just make it seem a little more like it's
30:09taking part in a real world
30:13now if you take a look over here at our budget once more
30:17you'll see that the blue section of each budget has grown quite a lot
30:22and those are our animals
30:25they are the same as the vehicles they need ai
30:28and they could exist at any point in time so
30:32they use up some of the budget for every wave
30:35so once again it's a good thing to keep an eye on while you're placing your ai
30:40whether it's allies animals or enemies
30:44they're all going to use the same budget
30:48now that our enemies and ai are in place
30:52let's put in our pickups
30:56we'll want to start with weapons
30:59so we'll come back into objects
31:02go down under weapons
31:04and select weapons
31:06we've got a ton of different things to choose from
31:09again in here in far cry
31:11so let's just put in some cool ones
31:14that i like
31:15this grenade launcher is pretty sweet
31:17so we'll place that down here on this box
31:22and this shotgun here is another one of my favorites
31:26so let's put that over here on the ground
31:32now we want to make sure they're positioned correctly
31:35you can see they're kind of
31:37down inside the surface that they were placed on
31:41we just want to fix that up by selecting the rotation tool
31:46clicking on the object
31:48now if i actually have the rotation tool selected
31:51that gives me access here to the use snap angles section of the tool
31:57if i select that you'll see that 90 degrees is already chosen
32:01and so now if i rotate the object it snaps automatically to the 90 degrees
32:08so twist that onto its side
32:11and using the move tool
32:13just tweak it up a little bit so it's no longer down inside that box
32:19perfect
32:20now let's jump over here to
32:23our shotgun
32:25and just do the same thing
32:27grab the rotate tool
32:3090 degrees
32:32and lift it up out of the ground
32:35oh now you'll see it's not really cooperating very well right now it won't come up off the ground
32:41too easily and when it does it snaps up too high
32:45now that's because here in the editor settings we have auto snap objects with terrain turned on
32:52so if i turn that off and try again
32:55i can now do the fine adjustments we want
32:59to get it up out of the ground but not too far
33:03now i'm going to turn that back on because it's a good thing to have in general for most objects
33:09so now that we have guns in play of course we need ammunition
33:14so we'll go back here to our add tool
33:18under weapons once more we've got ammo and pickups
33:21we've got a few different kinds of ammo here in far cry we've got this big ammo pile here
33:27which can be used multiple times by the player to fill up on ammo and it also explodes when shot
33:34so that's pretty cool
33:36now we also have the explosive ammo which is what our grenade launcher over here uses
33:44and we have small ammo which is what our shotgun over here uses so we'll place a couple of those
33:52as well
33:54now of course we've got to have some health packs put a couple of these on our boxes here
34:02and the last pickup that we want to place is some armor and we'll put that over here with the
34:10drugs
34:13so you'll see that each of these objects i've placed down particularly the interactive objects
34:19and the ai have an icon associated with it from weapons to ammo explosives animation points even vehicles
34:28and animals they all have their own symbol or icon that is is associated with them so that's just a
34:35easy way to look at your map and find the things that you're looking for that might be a little
34:41too small
34:42to see from the distance that you're at whether again it's some ammo or a weapon that you want to
34:50find
34:50that's a good way to do it so now our play space is all set up got things to kill
34:59and things to kill them
35:00with so now we want to make sure that the player doesn't wander too far out of the designated play
35:08area they've got lots of map here and we want to keep them where the cool stuff is so if
35:14we come up here
35:15to our map limits select that you'll see that right now it includes the entire map so i'm just going
35:23to
35:23grab the points and i'm just going to drag them in closer to our outpost now you don't want to
35:32go too
35:33close you want to make sure that there's lots of breathing room around it and that the player has
35:38lots of space to choose from they can come at this outpost from any angle any direction of their
35:48choosing so there we go now that's not quite the shape that i want for that so i'm going to
35:55come up
35:55here to the add button which will allow me to add points to our our limits here and i can
36:04then create
36:06a little bit more of a forgiving shape for the player there we go so now i've got lots of
36:15space
36:15for the player to roam in but it won't let them get too far from where all the good stuff
36:21is the next
36:23thing on the list we want to look at is our environment settings so i'm just going to zoom in
36:29a little bit
36:29onto our outpost here and go up and select the environment settings so now i've got a bunch of different
36:37stuff here we've got time and cloud type water level we've got snow and vista and we've got our
36:45ambient lighting and our ambient sound so for the ambient lighting let's select the high mountain
36:52you can see right away that it changes the way things look just a little bit and that we can
37:00fine
37:01tune up here with the time slider so it's high noon right now how about we adjust that a little
37:08bit
37:09maybe go earlier like nine in the morning there we go now we've got some more interesting shadows being
37:18cast sun's not just coming straight down onto everything i'm also going to turn on the snow
37:27and the vista which are things you're not going to be able to see here in the editor while working
37:33but those will appear once we play the map and let's look up into the sky here and see what
37:39we've got
37:39for cloud options not bad yeah i like that lots of clouds in the sky that looks good stick with
37:47that
37:48and lastly ambient sound lots in here and we'll just select mountain again to keep things consistent
37:56and that will just help to enhance the mood of the map that you're creating it keep things feeling all
38:04nice and consistent with the same theme here of mountains now with our environment settings all good
38:12to go let's take a look at our modifiers so in here we can set the player's inventory we can
38:23set their
38:23skills their health and then a bunch of different modifiers that will behave or will change the way the
38:30map or the player behaves so i'm just going to leave the rifle gonna turn up the skills to
38:38all and i'm going to crank up the player's health to maximum and that's all i'm going to turn on
38:44and
38:44for modifiers right now
38:49so i'm going to position the camera here a nice high angle shot of our outpost because i'm going to
38:57come
38:58to map properties here and take a screenshot of it now this screenshot will be used in the map browser
39:05to show players what your map looks like and it's something that the players will use to determine
39:12what maps that they want to play so make sure you pick a good one that's representative of the map
39:18you've created now we also will want to set our description tag down here now this is a method that
39:26the browser is going to use to classify maps and categorize them into different different categories
39:35so again you'll want to pick something that does a good district job of describing your map so i'm just
39:42going to select village here something nice and simple all right so we're pretty well all set i want
39:51to come up here now and look at our map validation one last time to make sure everything's all good
39:57you
39:58can see we're green completely across the board which means we're all set nothing more to do the last
40:04thing we want to do before playing is saving so let's click save we'll give it a name
40:16and click ok all right now that it's done its thing it's saved we're all done the last thing for
40:24us to
40:24do is just to play the map
40:30so this is our introductory screen for the editor maps now it will just display the name of the map
40:37as
40:38well as the objective for the map type that you have selected and it will also display the modifiers
40:45that you have chosen since we didn't activate any major modifiers in this map they're not being displayed
40:51but they will if you do choose them so i'm jumping in here you can take a look around you
40:58can see that
40:59the snow that we selected is falling you can see the big white mountain vista in the background and
41:06looking down here you can see our outpost that we've created so thank you for joining me in this far
41:13cry 4 map editor tutorial i hope you enjoyed it and i hope you learned some good things that will
41:19help you make your own cool maps now get out there and have some fun it's time for me to
41:25get this party
41:26started
