00:38For the past six months we've been looking at reference videos, images.
00:43What you see on those images is just static.
00:45So it doesn't show the action, it doesn't show what's happening behind the scenes.
00:51Whether it's in Kathmandu or whether it's up in the mountains,
00:54there's always something that you need to look out for.
00:56That kind of comes into that danger factor where you're never sure what you're going to see,
01:01what you're going to hear, what you're going to encounter.
01:03For me this is truly awesome because that's basically the game that we're trying to build.
01:07We want the player to be kind of surprised on every corner, to see something,
01:12want to get there, but never really sure of what he's going to find.
01:18Kurat is the fictional Himalayan region that Far Cry 4 was tentatively using to describe its environment.
01:23The topography played well into informing how the game would be built.
01:29We're really big at giving options to the player.
01:32Basically it's your game, your way.
01:33So you can go anywhere, approach any situation from any angle, use any type of weapons.
01:38So like having those footpaths go on or that main road, you could drive up and drive and shoot basically
01:43if you wanted.
01:47That thing in the trees sounds like some kind of high-pitched electrical whir from a distance,
01:52but then up close it was just horrible.
01:55We should try and figure out a way to put that in the game somewhere.
01:57Just makes you wonder what's inside that jungle.
02:00Death.
02:00I don't want to see it.
02:01Yeah, death probably.
02:02It's just death.
02:02Yeah, the view from here is pretty amazing.
02:05We're just looking at those terraces over there.
02:08That's really the kind of feeling that we want to get.
02:10We want to get out of the standard lush forest.
02:15This really stands out to me.
02:16Now we're just approaching the temple and I can't wait to just hear and see it from up close.
02:21We're going to go inside the temple and maybe underground also in the game.
02:25So I really want to see how it looks from all its angle.
02:29The tall Bahari temple is located in the middle of Lake Fiwa.
02:33It's a traditional ancient structure with an unknown history.
02:37Just the kind of setting that the developers were looking for.
02:41It's super interesting to see how the traditions kind of sustain and survive.
02:44It's not just the place itself that has the spirit, it's the people as well.
02:48They still believe it, they still carry on these traditions.
02:51Whereas back home we kind of dispose of things much more quickly.
02:55Whereas everything here seems to, even if people don't know why they do it,
02:58like they still do it just because they're carrying on their tradition.
03:03It's kind of cool just to get that level of detail.
03:07And a lot of it's just bizarre juxtaposition,
03:09which I think is going to be kind of cool to try and bring some of that into the game.
03:13I think it's going to give a weirder reverence,
03:15which I think is always something we look for in a Far Cry game.
03:18Coming back here and just having a slideshow and showing people pictures.
03:23Yeah, that's good.
03:24But then explaining them like in detail how it was to be there and see those things.
03:30I think that's really where it paid off.
03:33It was a break between filming.
03:35I remember I saw this and there was a little old woman sitting on a step.
03:38I started filming her.
03:39She was just sharpening this thing on the step.
03:41And a few weeks ago we were like, we need someone to give this mission.
03:44And I was like, I have her.
03:47So we're going to use her as inspiration.
03:48And again, that was just a small little moment that like we've added in the game
03:51to give that clash of culture kind of fish out of water experience.
04:06All right, so we decided to take this trip on the roof, sort of Nepali stuff,
04:09see if we can take in some more of the scenery.
04:12We took this crazy jeep ride on these death trap roads.
04:17And I remember seeing people on these huge rickety buses and thinking these people are insane.
04:24In the research I've done, I've seen that these buses crash every week.
04:27It's not even newsworthy.
04:28It happens all the time.
04:30There were some moments like looking down that I was really like, if the driver doesn't
04:34know what he's doing, or if I was driving, I'd probably be in the ditch.
04:39And I'd probably be either dead or almost dead, right?
04:42This is the perfect warm-up to a two-day trek.
04:46So on our way to the Gorilla Trail, we've come across a road that's been washed out by a giant
04:52avalanche.
04:53So we're going to have to take it by foot on what looks like a pretty sketchy trail.
05:02There were a few times when I was pretty convinced we were all going to die.
05:06I was like, this is it.
05:07At least I'm going to die in a beautiful place.
05:11After the avalanche-stricken road we've got on this van,
05:14and it's going to take us the rest of the way to the Gorilla Trail.
05:18You guys comfortable?
05:20It's getting hot.
05:21With an exploration of Pokhara, the Gurkha, and the Temple Lake finished,
05:24the heart of the Himalayas was the next stop.
05:28The Gorilla Trail is what people now call the network of roads and mountain villages
05:32that the Maoist rebels used to hide and house their insurgency.
05:35Though the war has been over for several years,
05:38the region has only recently been deemed pacified enough for outsider travel.
05:42We got to the start of the Gorilla Trail, and immediately I was in the game.
05:48I felt like I was in Kira.
05:50The landscape was perfect.
05:52Everything looked like the game I'd been playing,
05:55and it was an incredible feeling.
05:58We left civilization behind.
06:15So it looks like we made it up to at least the end of the ascent,
06:20but we still have about half an hour before we reach the village.
06:24Hopefully we can get there before the sun sets and have ourselves a nice little fucking rest.
06:34The first part of the trek had been treacherous,
06:37and leaving civilization for the next few days offered time to reflect on the sensory elements
06:42that can be brought into the game.
06:44The subtle moments encountered at the Bahari Temple,
06:47and the feeling of tradition and spirituality,
06:49were key in adding another layer to the trip.
06:53Spirituality would stay a continuing theme,
06:55taking a bizarre twist when experiencing some of Nepal's darker traditions.
07:03music picks up at the ruins
07:13following a high level.
07:14Sounds Absolutely Unused!
