00:02we're on a sustainable makeover mission hello everybody my team of top interior
00:09designers and trades people are traveling the country we're queens of the world revamping on
00:21love rooms with every stage of this makeover they're gonna really have to trust me that's
00:27kind of unexpected like don't go for it too much that it's a circle oh my god with clever repurposing
00:35upcycling and secondhand finds it's not gonna look pretty when it comes out of the van oh okay but it's
00:41gonna look pretty by the end with a spend of just 1 000 euro i'm feeling the pressure why why
00:48why and
00:49only three days to do it i think we should knock all the walls down that would involve you doing
00:53something each makeover will present challenges they're damaged and it pushes us back on the
01:00schedule a lot i spend about four fifths of the budget on seating we have really little money
01:05left for the rest of the room but if we pull this off we'll be creating show-stopping rooms that
01:12won't
01:12close the earth
01:21this week the savage squad is in kildare
01:26in claim village peter has a mighty task ahead of him large space it's a very big space actually
01:34it's quite overwhelming large personalities we're very hard women to please this is turning out to be my
01:41biggest project on savage squad yet
01:47clayne is a bustling town in county kildare which has attracted many doublers to make the move there
01:54including the hackett family i moved down to claim coming up on 22 years ago you won't remember you were
02:01only 18 months old when we moved in so we had known someone who had moved down here and there
02:06was such a
02:06sense of community and that has really come to fruition over the years barbara and baby aaron moved
02:13to claim with barbara's husband and aaron's dad ed we had 21 i wouldn't say blissful years because you
02:21know let's be real
02:25he unfortunately passed away uh in february 2020 from cancer it was 13 weeks from diagnosis to death
02:34i think it was two months before i turned 19 it was tough but i mean we're we're taking it
02:40day by day
02:40we're doing what we can and we try to keep his memory alive as much as we can absolutely
02:47the years following eddie's passing have not been easy ed passed in february 2020 a year and a day
02:55later my dad passed away and then a year after that i was diagnosed with cancer they discovered
03:01that i had a tumor in my right kidney my kidney has been removed but i do have cancer in
03:07three other
03:07areas of my body i've said to aaron all along i found my cancer early you know so i have
03:16the
03:16opportunity to fight his dad didn't get that i also said to him i'm here for a long time he's
03:21getting rid of me that easily she can be stubborn um she she has a certain not just determined
03:30three years in barbara is still living with cancer and despite this she has found a new purpose
03:37inspired by her experience at the nearby little way cancer support center
03:43it was my light bulb moment my first reflexology session this is what i am meant to do that light
03:49bulb
03:50moment sparked a professional interest for barbara she studied for a certificate as a reiki master in
03:56teacher and also has a diploma in reflexology i've received so much support that i would like to be
04:02able to give back i will request a donation and that donation will go back to little ways given the
04:10the last couple of years that we've had especially i think she's incredibly strong incredibly resilient
04:15don't let me cry
04:17to do this barbara needs her makeshift home treatment room brought up to scratch
04:22i just don't have the energy um to do it myself i'm not very good at asking for help but
04:31i felt that
04:32the salvage squad would be a good way of asking for help it's the best way and help is at
04:40hand guys
04:41if anyone can incorporate a treatment room into a suburban bungalow it's our designer kathy angelini
04:47i'd like my designs to be quite timeless and eclectic mixing different trends and different
04:55styles and different eras within each space the space we are in right now is transporting me to a
05:03different era my childhood i am making a triumphant return to my home county of kildare kathy i'm home
05:10my home a star returns to all the people look at all those people gathering to wave at me
05:16there's no one there kathy they obviously didn't know i was probably
05:23why you got tea bags we're gonna need this for this makeover so i'm gonna get you to hold that
05:28are we going to be drinking lots of tea nope no we'll be too busy for that are you nervous
05:34about this
05:35one how are you nice to meet you i am a little bit nervous because barbara will find it hard
05:41to hand
05:42over control i am a control freak a bit of convincing will need to happen barbara has had a very
05:48tough
05:49journey in the past few years she really deserves this makeover and i want her to like enjoy the
05:56process my design for her room is quite japanese inspired reiki the origins of it are japanese so i've
06:04kind of leaned into that style a bit natural materials cam colors to create this natural
06:11vibe kathy has been secondhand shopping and has found some upcycled gems i've just picked up a vintage
06:20radio that's been converted into a bluetooth speaker and i got that for 60 euro i think aaron might be
06:27a bit
06:27of a fan of it with dad passing and mam's diagnosis and everything music has been my solace aaron has
06:34his own studio in the house uh he releases his own music big fan don't understand half of it you
06:46know
06:47how are we on budget i think the budget's almost kathy kathy kathy i give you a thousand euros no
06:56more we
06:56need a bit of wiggle room i think we have about 50 euro for wiggle room there's no plan b's
07:01with this
07:01every step has to work out what can't be with it it can't be what if it doesn't stop
07:11hello how are you so lovely to meet you you too how are you loving your bougie walkway here thank
07:18you
07:18so much so whenever you walk in you feel like a celebrity oh stop every day
07:24every day so this is the mood board oh wow oh love it i love that color well you want
07:33to love that
07:33color because we're putting it on the walls the ceiling and the woodwork in here we're going to
07:39color drench the room wow hey the drenching has me a bit um taken aback i will trust you
07:46i have to hand it over to you it's not easy do you now want to see what's inside the
07:51van oh yes please
08:00not sure what the palette is for how are you going to use a palette in the treatment room
08:05is this a bracelet that is a chimney flue i got the chimney flue in second chance furniture for 30
08:12euro
08:13okay but we're doing a treatment room it really is an odd collection of bits and pieces when you take
08:19them out even i myself thinking what am i doing for the next few days the cork tiles are floor
08:25tiles
08:26left over and from another project i'm kind of enjoying them being a bit confused to be honest
08:33look at you your hair is looking fabulous today let's clear this room get to it oh here we go
08:41no time
08:42for i have things to do here i'm needed elsewhere in this house
08:50the savage squad we do it all knocking on your walls paint in my big van and adjust the driving
08:57i
08:58can't drive
09:01not bad right remember where you heard it first now back to make sure this gang aren't slacking take
09:07this one actually might as well call him while you're asking kathy there's one more thanks kathy left
09:12on the way out kathy left kathy as soon as we heard barbara's story and plan for the room we
09:22knew
09:22what our next makeover had to be how were you first introduced to little way it was literally the week
09:29i
09:29got out of hospital after having my kidney removed i wanted to go call into them and find out exactly
09:34what
09:34services they offered i was welcomed with open arms little way cancer support center has not only
09:42welcomed barbara but over 120 clients a year and supported them through their cancer diagnosis
09:48treatment and beyond making over this kind of space will be a first for the savage squad but we love
09:55a
09:55challenge peter it's an obvious one who the second makeover was going to be i'm so happy we're doing
10:02it we're off to meet the team at the little way cancer support center what they do is absolutely
10:08amazing my name is durban key i'm a director here in the little way cancer support center my mother
10:14co-founded the center back in 2003 this is where the clients come in they're met with the volunteers
10:22our core services would be the counseling and the holistic therapies so we have two counseling rooms and
10:28two therapy rooms we have people coming from north kildare from newbridge and maynooth salbridge the
10:34door is open to everybody for salvage woman joe the center has been a lifeline since the first moment she
10:41walked through the door i could come here and i could just be joe i wasn't joe he was going
10:46through cancer
10:48it was the only place that i would go that i didn't wear a headscarf as soon as that door
10:52opened it was like
10:54it was like going home like walking into mammy's for a sunday dinner i thankfully came through all of
11:01my treatments i am out the other side but i will always come back to a little way even if
11:08it's just
11:08for a coffee and a chat the center depends on the support of the local community and volunteers like
11:15mary to keep the place going what amazes me is the generosity of people that the center is going for
11:21so long
11:22with no funding we have to fundraise approximately 55 000 a year to maintain this service we are
11:31completely volunteer led and without the volunteers the service couldn't open they have an unwavering
11:36commitment though they haven't had the resources up to now durville and the team want to make over the
11:43reception area and their hopes for the redesign are as you'd expect client focused sometimes it's a
11:49daunting experience making that decision to come in and get some help that's the core piece for us
11:56was actually just creating a discretionary private safe space for when they come in but we didn't know
12:02how to do it ourselves don't worry durville you certainly won't be doing it by yourself
12:09coming up julia versus a palette this is literally the strongest palette i've ever worked with
12:15and speaking of unpalatable that looks interesting
12:25we're on a sustainable mission to turn unload rooms into dream spaces redesigning and revamping
12:33with clever repurposing upcycling and second-hand buys
12:39at barbara's carpenter julia arrives to get started on the makeover
12:44day one of the makeover yes
12:47kathy's plan is to paint every surface in the room green
12:52barbara's not too sure about that yeah it's interesting to see how that goes we're going to
12:57start working on the wardrobes julia the lovely lockers we're going to upcycle
13:02so excited let's get into it along with all the other jobs there's shelving to be built
13:09the materials for that are coming from that controversial palette that's if julia can pull it
13:14apart oh not that bit this is literally the strongest palette i've ever worked with come on julia
13:30in plain village little way cancer support center want to make the reception area a more inviting
13:35space for all their clients
13:40designer peter irvine is all about bringing that chilled out vibe
13:46the end goal for me is always to relax the user in that space and i like to design in
13:51a way that
13:52helps you be able to do that peter loves bringing nature into his design sometimes maybe a bit too
13:59much peter what's in your hand it's uh a bit of wood brian you know me i like to i
14:05like to play it
14:06in a way where no one's going to expect what i'm walking in with to find these surprising elements peter
14:12has been visiting salvage yards pre-cycle sites and apparently the beach
14:19it's driftwood right washed up on the beach and i picked it up and we're going to find a space
14:23for
14:23it hi darabelle i'm peter nice to meet you nice to meet you peter so we're making over the reception
14:28so it's about creating that warm welcoming space the center's also great because it provides like
14:34um opportunities for like little information evenings where the seating changes they host like
14:39craft fairs so everything i'm doing in there also needs to be able to move my plan for the space
14:44is
14:46relaxation nature right now the place is filled with like dining chairs and cast offs whilst they
14:52serve a purpose and it's great that they were donated do you know they can go on to someone else
14:55but we
14:56need to give them things that feel more like professional we spent about 750 euro on the seating
15:01alone so that puts the pressure on for me to do the rest you've given yourself a shoestring
15:07budget pad nope i am so close to the wire i think we have pennies left well you better not
15:14let me down
15:15i've a reputation to uphold in these parts one of the fundraising activities that used to be organized
15:20in a little way was a valentine's ball just after brian had won big brother he came along to that
15:27ball
15:27dressed in his all black and super tanned he was very gracious and he was very good humored in terms
15:35of
15:35um being there and helping us out hello ladies hello i'm joe joe pleased to meet you i'm fine
15:45hello mary how are you it's been a couple of decades don't say that please but you're looking as young
15:51lots of water and staying out of the sun say it back you haven't changed either thank god you're here
15:57peter it's a very big space actually yeah it's a really big space um i did it's quite overwhelming i
16:04think more than any space i've ever created i want to get this one right because it's not just
16:09two people or a family that i'm creating for we're doing the space for the whole community without
16:14giving too much away this is the general feeling that i have for the center oh my word i'm speechless
16:19um i love the greenery i love the partition you worked out that was a partition i had no idea
16:24what
16:24that was durable do you want to see what's in the back of the van yes please we could do
16:28the conga
16:29do that check it out oh okay yeah that looks interesting interesting to me means you know
16:47kind of we're not sure very interesting yeah we're not gonna make it easy for him joe have a seat
16:56lovely vip oh yeah there we are why are we all ignoring the bike we figured that was just in
17:02the van though no so that's coming out that's coming out oh my god i actually can't write it
17:07i can't write it it actually doesn't work why else do you think i got it for free i'm trying
17:12to
17:12imagine what you can do with it what we can do with it what you could do with it look
17:19he's given
17:19himself a big challenge isn't he and we're very hard women to please yeah with such a big space
17:25there is a lot to clear out but this one will require a delicate touch the glamour of your mom
17:31here in this picture yeah she loved her glamour so she did like you brian whoever and i have a
17:37lot in
17:37absolutely as the room empties the challenge ahead becomes very real for peter i think the real
17:45difficulty with this space is going to be this sheer size of it there's a room at the back that
17:50you can see as you walk in the door so i feel like i need to take that on board
17:53so much space when you
17:55open this up yeah then we have these bifold doors that when they open up they've opened up another
18:01corridor i think we should knock all the walls down that would involve you doing something
18:06this is turning out to be my biggest project on salvage squad yet
18:13over at barbara's kathy is making tea slacking kathy this is how strong i like my tea
18:22thankfully kathy won't be poisoning anyone with this tea
18:26she is using it to stain japanese style rice paper lampshades i've always loved these shades the
18:32simplicity of them and there's just no plastic in them with this design they're the perfect shade
18:39as a lampshade yeah and now they're going to be the perfect shade the wood from the palette has
18:46to be planed and sanded thankfully someone on site is very familiar with the role of manual labor
18:53in every business there's labor and there's management you start until it's up to full speed
18:58and then you come back so that this comes here prior to my cancer diagnosis i would have been the
19:04one
19:04i would have painted the house and this that and the other aaron has kind of taken over the role
19:08of
19:11painting brilliant i've been promoted i used to just be the one who was holding the instructions
19:15this is cane webbing right okay it's going to be the center panel of the doors that we're putting on
19:25the upcycled locker so we need to flatten it a bit a good way to do that is use the
19:30steamer and then we
19:31let it sit flat with the cane webbing and then the simplicity of the lockers it'll be quite a japandi
19:38style that cannot be a word it is worse how where did you hear this word it's japanese and scandinavian
19:45styles merging okay katulia that's you and me oh well katulia on that note
19:56in little way carpenter trevor arrives as the makeover is about to get underway
20:01i want to get the decorator started on painting that room because it's a really big space
20:06and thankfully it's a really big team who is good at painting brought in some lovely chairs
20:11do you like the color of them you're going to change it i love the color we're gonna we're gonna
20:16get
20:16paint in these chairs we have a sustainable eco-friendly paint it's the first time for me
20:22doing this so hopefully it works oh they're lovely just really soaked into our speed it's amazing it's
20:30amazing yeah we have quite a lot of little woodwork jobs this is my husband noel and uh he's done
20:35bits and pieces in the little way over the last couple of months so we thought it might be useful
20:40today useful for something anyway you know i need sheet material for here we need shelving i do want
20:46to re-panel this reception desk some shelving back in this little alcove as well so trevor what are we
20:52like for wood very little wood the reason we don't have the materials is because i actually spent about
20:57four fifths of the budget on seating alone this just left us in that predicament where we have
21:04really little money left for the rest of the room and it's a really big room
21:12at barbara's julie and aaron are getting started upcycling those lockers so try and take those off
21:18we're going to leave them on eventually but i need them off so we can cut the edges off
21:22are we sure they're screws they're stapled in yeah all right that's going to be fun so can't be
21:30so we're just tapping it right to loosen the staples and then we're twisting it around the back
21:37so that we can saw here what's tv without a bit of a challenge former seamstress marie has dropped in
21:43to help we have these curtains that we took off the glass doors of barbara's um built-in units the
21:50wardrobes okay and we're going to use these as a template to make new curtains this is end of line
21:57fabric you can't get more of it okay i'll leave you to it very nice to meet you and if
22:02we make a
22:03mistake we won't tell on it met barbara about three years ago now i met it through the choir the
22:09sea of
22:09change choir the sea of change choir is a big part of barbara's life
22:17performing the national concert hall we've been on britain's got talent
22:22we are made up of 54 women who've all been affected by cancer in some way shape or form
22:29it has given me a new visa life for the fifth scan in a row there has been no change
22:34in my tumours
22:38in the garden fellow choir member louise is painting the wardrobes
22:43i'm happy to help anything for barbara she would never ask for help she's quite giving of herself
22:51which means that sometimes there's nothing left for herself you're getting blessed now as well as
22:58that's the people that's going to come in here yes and experience that all the love and energy and effort
23:04that's going into this transformation will be felt in this room
23:12oh wow it's much darker than i expected oh really but i like it darker i was always confident about
23:21the paint color and the color drenching but i was delighted today to see barbara's reaction she seems
23:27pretty happy with this right after work okay coming up spirits are dampened i think there's water in under
23:37the paint and the paint's bubbling up so they'll have to all be sanded down again and painted again
23:44and the pressure's on at little way whilst the big space is already big i'm making it even bigger
23:50by capturing this serious money to work in a day
23:57it's a new day for our designers in kildare but at barbara and aaron's kathy's mind is very much on
24:04the
24:04night before it rained last night i think there's water in under the paint and the paint's bubbling
24:09up um so they'll have to all be sanded down again um down to the primer and painted again
24:19i said they should come in last night there was a unanimous decision to leave them outside
24:25and now they're damaged and it pushes us back on the schedule a lot
24:29at little way with so much to do peter is hoping to outsource some of his design
24:35enter the local abbey art group hey sharon hi there the symbol of the rose is so important to
24:41little way they have this piece of artwork whilst it's not entirely my taste i don't want to discount
24:46it i would love it if you could paint it to just to kind of get it into the color
24:49scheme that we
24:49want yeah you've got us on a great day there could be no problem at all that's so much help
24:53it takes
24:54another job off my list and i really appreciate it guys there's a lot to do but peter isn't alone
24:59the locals of this amazing community have come out and forced to help i'm looking for ted how are you
25:06ted how are you doing it's really great that the men's shed exist in this community and across the
25:11country they take donations and they use that material to then give back out to the community the
25:18most important thing in the shed is the kettle i'll make a chat what can we do for you on
25:25your
25:25edge i have a list of stuff that i want to start taking i want to start taking a shopping
25:29list yeah
25:30yeah yeah and it may not be perfect but we're the salvage squad and we're here to make things out
25:35of
25:35something i will take a wardrobe door i will take a few scraps we're going to take one of these
25:39this
25:40little bit of plywood as well if it means i can build some furniture i'll take it all a little
25:46uh
25:46momenta on your visit to glenman shed and uh might even make you a non-remember have to discuss that
25:52with the committee at barbara's more members of the choir have arrived to help including amateur
25:58t-shirt designer simone nice work simone do i get royalties for that hi nice to meet you hi nice
26:07to meet
26:08you i love the teacher oh thank you so these were bedside lockers okay i need you to paint the
26:14outside
26:14panels and the top as simone and aaron get stuck in another choir member miriam has joined the team
26:22we have a lovely plant pot we're going to repair it with gold but this is the art of kintsugi
26:31which is
26:31a japanese art the whole meaning behind it is to show the beauty of imperfection and and you know a
26:38piece's journey um i think this is a perfect diy for this room a bit like ourselves a bit of
26:45crack
26:47it's been manic over the last couple days in here just trying to get everything sorted but in fairness
26:54it's a nice change of pace to have something good happen for a change she's kind of been forced to
26:59look
27:00in the mirror and realize that she does need to ask for help she's not there yet but i can
27:04see the
27:05progress is being made progress is being made at little way as well where peter has an inventive
27:11solution for some extra seating this is the bookcase that i managed to salvage so i got this free off
27:17of
27:18marketplace and i'm gonna see can we maybe turn it into some box seating in that box room at the
27:23back
27:24as work expands into the back room the job is growing rapidly but so is the team thankfully
27:31i brought my twin sister susan with me she's delighted to be on board hi are you with painting
27:36i'm actually a dab hander painting my name's billy and i'm a client of little way um almost a year
27:44now
27:45we're gonna give the reception desk a little revamp this is like a leftover wall mural i had from
27:51another project we're all go go go in these makeovers it was nice to kind of sit down with billy
27:57and while
27:57we were still working just to understand how important the center is to people by meeting
28:01more and more people going through similar struggles it makes you feel like you're not alone there is so
28:08many times that you do feel alone even though you've got the support system yeah even though you've got
28:12everyone you feel like nobody knows and no one understands you know trying to support joe through
28:18everything and i'm always there for but to know there was another team as well that we're there for
28:24two where they could probably relate more because i haven't been through joanne's road and so that
28:31was nice as well to know she was being looked after as well by other people we've got so many
28:36jobs done
28:37that could have taken much longer if we had just a normal amount of people oh my god
28:47it will be difficult in terms of letting go um of what my mom had created
28:55she passed away in 2021 march 2021 this was always her baby and she loved and she gave it everything
29:04change is not easy um but at the same time it's about creating the future and i know that's what
29:11my
29:11mother would want do you know this i've never wanted a project better if i'm being honest so
29:16as i use trevor's child's shorts to wipe wallpaper paste away with we're salvaging everything when
29:23it comes to here julia and aaron have made the life fishings from the old palette and kathy plans to
29:31wrap them in cork ah that's what those cork tiles are for one of these is going on yours when
29:38that sits
29:39against the wall i don't want the light to come out the sides it's supposed to go up and down
29:42right
29:43yeah we're going to glue it and then i'm going to nail gun it the lighting is the most important
29:49thing for me in the room it has to be in a treatment room it has to be atmospheric we
29:53have this cane
29:54webbing from the doors of the lockers we've plenty left over and i'm going to use this to make the
30:02shade
30:02for the lamp i look at that oh i like
30:12cute it looks like kathy's aesthetic is coming together but what would you call the aesthetic
30:17exactly at little away it's time to start building those partitions that are important for client
30:26privacy my idea for the screens is that they're really lightweight and easy moved around the center
30:30which is why this polycarbonate's a great um substitute to glass and i managed to get the
30:34second-hand marketplace from someone who had bought too much for replacing their greenhouse just need
30:39some frames built around them we could push for like five and then anything else is a bonus is that
30:46realistic we're using a lot of salvage stuff it's not just making it make the salvage stuff good enough to
30:52make furniture but serious amount of work in a day sounds like you shouldn't be taking on any extra work
30:58peter what are you doing back there amongst everything i'm just in the edging of this corridor
31:04that leads off of the reception i want to try and make it as easy as possible for any volunteers
31:09coming
31:09to help us like if i take the detailed work then they can come in and quickly paint this corridor
31:13whilst the big space is already big i'm making it even bigger by capturing this but i want to do
31:19everything i can for the center everywhere you look work is piling up thankfully noel is on hand
31:25there was a door here but it was further back and they want to create more storage space so i'm
31:31moving the door forward hopefully that will keep them happy for life that's the stakes below that peter
31:36one job marked off the list has to be painted but i'm finished to help mark another job off peter's
31:44list i'm picking up the artwork from the abbey art room what a change we wanted a colorful but we
31:52still
31:52wanted it kind of calming so not too bright i'm raging it's actually heavier than i thought it was
32:00at kathy's makeover things are looking good even the water damaged doors she was so worried about
32:07bringing them in out of the damp weather the bubbles that were there has reduced a lot
32:13i think just this door just needs a bit of sanding and then we'll go with a few coats of
32:20paint again
32:20but it's it's not as bad as i thought it would be so that's okay breathe poor kathy just wants
32:27everything to be so perfect so it's it's these finer details that kathy is looking to to pour her heart
32:34into the room and and we're doing it too we were very panicked this morning but as the day progressed
32:41everything just happened really really nicely with um as much help it's really amazing that this family
32:48has lots of friends and aaron has been incredibly good health as well very proud of aaron he's really
32:54jumped in with both feet they're in the new skills too i suppose so they'll be put to use in
32:59the future
33:00at little way peter's finishing up the day with an upholstery project repurposing a rug as part
33:06of a diy cushion for the back room instead of having to go and buy foam this is actually a
33:12second
33:13hand um little mattress for a cot this was free off a free cycle a lady had it for a
33:18craft project and
33:19her cat scratched it and she didn't want it anymore that's tough enough isn't it like it doesn't yeah
33:24that's my workout done yeah yeah look at that staple guns i don't know if they were
33:29made to go through rugs but here we are you just need to really lean on it but you can
33:34see the
33:34muscles say that again louder for the camera one of my main worries at coming into today was tackling
33:45this side corridor and with the amount of volunteers we had we absolutely smashed it they smashed it
33:52coming up is it curtains for kathy why why why and will our designers pull off their biggest makeover
34:02challenges yet oh my god
34:09it's the final day of the makeover in claim kathy is upcycling a tired secondhand mirror by adding a cork
34:15edge it's great to see or use those cork tiles again the double-sided tape we put some on the
34:21back of the cork first if your side looks better than mine now this room means means a lot to
34:30me
34:31yeah it would be lovely if ed was around yes to see it but then having said that kathy i
34:37don't think
34:37any of this would be happening if ed was around because this room is happening because of the stage
34:42i'm at in my life now 2019 was a big year for me it was the year that i finished
34:49school was also the
34:50year that dad got diagnosed with cancer i just wanted to mark it as kind of the year that it
34:56all started
34:57for me the plan was that ed and i would get a matching tattoo as well unfortunately ed took ill
35:03and
35:04never got to do his one so we drew the design on ed's arm it's something we're very proud of
35:12you're inspirational thank you
35:18to keep the final touches a secret barbara and aaron have been sent off
35:23i'll keep an eye in the room for you this is the famous chimney flue it's gonna hold a big
35:30plant
35:30basically but it's got a good few cracks in it so i'm going to do kintsuki i'm just repairing the
35:37cracks with the gold how are you i'm good how are you oh so what's happening there's a large crack
35:43here
35:44and i need you to fill
35:49kathy what kind of show do you think this is
35:55a little way for the final push durville has called in some more help
35:59are you good with a screw gun today i have my sister grania here with us she's come here to
36:04get her hands dirty today oh god darling i brought us through this up all together
36:13i've one big job ahead of me and i kind of want grania and durville out of here because it's
36:18repurposing
36:18the bike they have no idea still what i'm doing with it like a a race bike for a spike
36:23it's for
36:24the center here yeah what as much as everyone this week has been so helpful i need yous out because
36:29i
36:29have lots to do with the coast clear time to find out what the plan is for that bike the
36:35only parts
36:36we're using is the wheels what are you doing we are making new light pendants i'm sorry i asked i'm
36:42i knew that i needed a light fixture in there domestic kind of home light fittings are too
36:48small that's when my cogs start turning and right under my nose this whole time is a bicycle wheel
36:54how many times have you done this before i have never done this before i'm just fitting the led strip
37:00light and throughout the groove where the tire of this was this is um quite important for me in terms
37:07of
37:07giving that um education to people that you can look at things differently and use them differently
37:12kathy and the team are putting the final touches to barbara's room soundtrack by aaron and myself
37:19the savage squad is rolling back in the scene with brian peter kathy and the rest of the team
37:24welcome to the homes across the country with a scheme a grand plan and a sustainable team
37:29a table i hope these work out now these were never tested oh kathy why why why our lovely curtains
37:38for
37:39the glass doors the bar that it's sitting on has a bow in it and that's giving a sag in
37:45the fabric
37:47no pressure guys but now would be a great time to sort this i'll stitch it in place okay julia's
37:54gonna
37:54hand stitch that while it's on the door still um yeah which is not ideal in the last hour
38:01i do know i'm truly blessed with the support that i've got in from friends and family um and the
38:08crew
38:08in relation to getting this my vision my dream up and running i do think mam has earned this through
38:15the sheer determination that she's had over the last couple years with everything that's been thrown our
38:20way it's kind of a bit of a juxtaposition i'm living with a life-limiting disease but i feel like
38:26i'm
38:27just embarking on a whole new chapter of my life i'm so excited for the future i'm proud of this
38:33one
38:34very proud of this one it's a treatment room that feels quite peaceful and tranquil and i think barbara
38:41would love that barbara was in much need of a room to practice her holistic therapies
38:53she now has a dedicated room to welcome clients
39:03for an inspirational woman who spends so much time giving to others it's finally her turn
39:19oh my god
39:21oh my god
39:31oh my god
39:33oh look at the lockers there's the lockers and lamps as well oh my god they turned out so well
39:39i was only saying to aaron what's the chimney flue going to be used for it's behind you
39:49i'm speechless and i'm not really speechless
39:56oh my god i'm i'm flabbergasted
40:04oh my god
40:05barbara absolutely deserves this makeover she's constantly looking after other people and it
40:10was her turn do you think barbara maybe you'll give up control in the future because this turned
40:16out pretty well it turned out more than pretty well i will be more open to letting go of control
40:24and open to asking for help if needs be in the future as well yes i think so that's progress
40:33thank you so much i was very anxious at the start but it's been absolutely 100
40:39enjoyable it's beautiful it's really nice to work with you likewise
40:43you made me cry
40:44i love doing all of these makeovers they're all really important to me but this one was pretty
40:50special for peter the end is in sight and for everyone it's been a long few days but it's been
40:59one whirlwind after another and whirlwind of emotions a whirlwind of activity a whirlwind of support
41:06it's been a difficult process a process of for me to let go and for me to actually accept that
41:14my
41:14mum is gone but she's still here of course she's still with you what we're doing now is just building
41:18on her legacy it is the new chapter it's the future it's not just about us it's not about me
41:25it's about
41:26the clients yeah i'm really happy with the design because it's got that warm feeling and that feeling
41:32of nature that i really wanted to bring into the space i think derval and everyone who volunteers
41:37at the center they're gonna love it something about me is still so nervous i think it's just because
41:42it means so much to them
41:48this space has always been very special and now with a lot of love from a wonderful community
41:54the reception area has come up a notch or two
42:04inspired by nature and calming colors the reception and adjoining rooms radiate calm and serenity
42:36it's just so beautiful oh my god
42:39it feels so calm it feels so calm it seems
42:42serenity
42:42just seeing the love that had been poured into that center
42:52the workmanship that had been done in such a short space of time it's just blowing me away
42:57altogether i think i'm a bit speechless and i've probably never really been speechless
43:02it reminded me the first day i walked into a little way actually it's so different and yet in the
43:08way
43:08i was still feeling warm and comfortable and welcoming the driftwood is beautiful
43:15did you get that the driftwood is beautiful
43:18it is exactly what we would like to have done but wouldn't have had the vision ourselves to do it
43:23where did the bike went on see you know if mommy was alive today she'd be very very happy she
43:31would
43:31just be absolutely over moon you brought us to another dimension we just want to thank him so much
43:39because it meant a lot to us we all did this together you know it wasn't just me i was
43:45such a
43:45part of like such a lovely team this week such a star i'll always remember this one do you know
43:51i
43:51i was kind of nervous about it it threw up its challenges for me but when you're surrounded by
43:56energy and people like that those problems just go away i've met some of the most beautiful people
44:01i've ever met in my life and it's a credit to clean to have you here yeah i'll take it
44:07with me forever
44:12i would do anything for barbara she's she's one in a million she would do anything for you
44:22it's lucky to be able to give give back to barbara and you know she really really deserves it
44:31oh my god it's amazing how many people have come together to make this space and even
44:38better space and more welcome it has been an absolute honor to be involved we are deeply
44:42grateful for everybody's contribution it's a privilege to have them all supporting us like
44:49take as a community this now has set me up for a new path i can now fulfill my dream
44:55to start
44:56helping others and giving back what has been done here is incredible work about running hope about
45:02running a sense of peace for people when they come through the door we're going through cancer
