00:02we're on a sustainable makeover mission my team of top interior designers and
00:10tradespeople are traveling the country revamping on loved rooms with every
00:23stage of this makeover they're gonna really have to trust me that's kind of
00:28unexpected like don't go for it too much that it's a circus oh my god with clever
00:34repurposing upcycling and secondhand finds it's not gonna look pretty when it
00:38comes out of the van but it's gonna look pretty by the end with a spend of just
00:451,000 euro I'm feeling the pressure and only three days to do it I think we
00:51should knock all the walls down that would involve you doing something each
00:55makeover will present challenges I think that might be as far as we're gonna get a
00:59piece of food it's the last day and we don't have one job actually completed
01:06but if we pull this off we'll be creating show-stopping rooms that won't cost the
01:13earth
01:21this week the salvage squad is traveling from the capital to the sunny southeast
01:29Kathy is taking on a massive living cum dining room and thingless girl Emily is trusting her to get it
01:37right oh wow I was a bit shocked there's so much mismatch stuff that I wouldn't
01:45necessarily a pick myself is that shade no subtle shade first we're in Ballyfad
01:54County Wexford to meet the Conroys teacher Karen electrician Martin and their three
02:00girls so we're the Conroy family Carrie woman Karen met Wexford native Martin 18
02:09years ago she's going to travel a long way to find a man to shed I came for a job
02:15now in fairness
02:15first I said I'll stay here for one year and then I'll move on but then I met Martin after
02:20the first year and then he would he plagued me and he wouldn't leave me alone after that so
02:26so Martin is always determined when he knows what he wants before he met Karen he built this house
02:32yeah I'd start building the house when I was 26 at the time I built on our own farm here
02:38at home
02:38so I actually asked him how many kids were you planning on having him when you got him I hadn't
02:42really thought about that at the time over the past few years Karen has slowly been putting her stamp
02:47on the house but they both struggled to figure out the playroom which is cluttered and disorganized
02:54I went back to work this year it's pretty manic yeah morning till evening I know that space just
03:01isn't working it could be so much better and I just need the professional help it's always annoyed me
03:06but I just haven't had the time or the mental space probably it would just you know help us to
03:12make our household run a bit more smoothly and make things easier for us as a family what is
03:18on to the playroom guys a big bookshelf where you put in your books since you're singing and dancing all
03:27the time it might be a nice space for you to to perform in I'd love it to be more
03:32fun for the
03:32girls a lovely creative playful space with lots of color playful creative say no more I know just
03:42the designer to bring the fun to this space enter Peter Irvine I love bringing unexpected materials
03:50I love that element of surprise and turning trash into treasure that's I think a gift that I can share
03:56with people well said Peter and as it happens I have a gift that I can share with you do
04:03you know
04:04what Wexford's actually famous for I have no idea it's strawberries okay so Peter close your eyes
04:10and open that mouth wide how big is how big is that strawberry but you know what you need with
04:19strawberries yeah cream but you don't oh my goodness oh go on go for it let me get some
04:34oh that's really good not a bad start to the day we are off to see Karen yeah and Martin
04:42and our three
04:42gorgeous children they're a lovely family and those girls are so lucky that they have a massive playroom
04:49but it is filled with toys I can see you've got like a really big storage solution is that working
04:54for you works for about five minutes right okay they already have some like bookcase systems but
05:00they're really tall so we're turning them on their side so the kids can actually access all the systems
05:05that they need to tidy their own toys away we're all for keeping things and making things work but I
05:10would love the family to analyze what they have in front of them and are they using them what kind
05:15of
05:15vibe you're getting from Karen and Martin I feel like there's a bit of like stage showmanship and
05:19those kids love to put a pageantry pageantry
05:25and with a mom like Karen it's no surprise that these kids love performing so in 2009 I was
05:34uh really privileged uh to be selected as the Kerry Rose sorry is there a tiara and sash in the
05:41house
05:41you don't have your own it's a really lovely memory for for my family and I think this experience of
05:46salvage squad is going to be a real core memory for our family we are here to have fun this
05:53week okay we
05:53are like the space it actually just feels a little serious are you repainting oh of course we are going
05:59bolder than the salvage squad has ever had before I might have said to him actually go for it but
06:03I
06:03need to say I'm like don't go for it too much that it's a circus either I want to do
06:07like a bit of a
06:08funfair kind of carnival vibe like the house is traditional so it would hopefully reflect a little
06:15bit of that we are circus tenting the ceiling in a paint effect what does that mean so like
06:21everything coming from the middle to create this huge big but it's not real it's not real we haven't
06:27say enough what are our options
06:34hello
06:35hi how are you can we come inside and see the room
06:39yes let's go give your hands full here with all of these
06:42come on in
06:44do you think mummy and daddy would let you have a circus tent ceiling
06:47yeah
06:48yeah
06:49I don't think mum would have a choice anymore
06:52Martin when it came to that ceiling I think it shocked him
06:55I'm a little bit concerned about the ceiling I never would have thought that he'd ever do
06:59anything so out there sure we can get the roller out again if we have to
07:02yeah
07:03who would like to see what's inside my bag
07:07yeah here we go go go look oh my god
07:13the contents were interesting weren't they yeah yeah I know that face
07:18the rock and horse has to get a bit painted
07:21okay okay Peter you're checking that it needs to be painted
07:23that rock and horse was 40 pound which to me is a real bargain because that's from the 1960s
07:30granted mine's not in the best condition I think the rock and horse is going to be a surprise to
07:34everyone
07:34really okay yeah I am replacing the sofa because I got a really good bargain on marketplace
07:40200 pound which is about 230 euro but it is in mint condition
07:44loved the couch actually
07:46yeah the couch is so good
07:47some of the items I got for free
07:49I'm loving the pattern of it
07:50I kind of hoped you didn't love the pattern
07:52we're here to transform things and hopefully those items look completely different by the end of it
07:59I could notice a few little worried faces
08:02do I get enjoyment out of it a little
08:07you trust him
08:08trust him
08:09to a point
08:11it won't be fun and games clearing out this one
08:14but I think the others have it covered
08:18another chandelier
08:20another chandelier
08:27Brian one second Peter just doing some finishing touches
08:33hello princess
08:38where did we get this in
08:46next we're off to Dublin and a two-bedroom apartment in Finglas
08:50very recently purchased by 30-year-old Emily
08:53who was soon to be leaving her mum's house
08:55I did have a goal to say I wanted to move out when I was 30
08:59so I worked like two jobs the last I'd say eight years or so
09:03I had part-time job dog grooming
09:05that was my passion
09:06I worked for a hospital as well and between the two I managed to save up over the years
09:12and eventually buy my own place
09:16you're going to miss me
09:17oh god yes
09:18my right arm
09:21she's worked so hard to get where she is now
09:23I think Emily in some ways is saving since she was like 19
09:27it is difficult to get on the ladder and to save
09:30that was the biggest I think hurdle to get through
09:33and then I suppose doing the application on your own
09:36I'm so proud of her because you know in this day and age
09:39you know trying to buy
09:41something that you can call home yourself
09:42is very very hard
09:46but Emily won't be making this move on her own
09:50aww they're so cute
09:52my dogs are a huge part of my life
09:55like I love them to pieces
09:56they're like my fur babies
09:57Penny is very energetic but she's very loving
10:00and very cuddly Pippa
10:02on the other hand
10:03she is small but mighty I would say
10:06a bit of a diva
10:08well Pippa
10:09there is only room for one diva here
10:13anyway
10:14this apartment is a blank canvas
10:16open and bright
10:17I love the space
10:20but for Emily
10:21it's a huge project to try and tackle
10:23the living room is amazing
10:25but it is such a big space
10:27and I honestly don't know where to start with it
10:30when I bought the apartment
10:31there was a lot of work to be done
10:33so any kind of savings that I did have
10:35I put into the floors and the bathroom
10:38so The Salvage God will be amazing
10:41helping me figure out what I'm going to do with the space
10:44coming up
10:45Kathy's not feeling it
10:47yeah I don't know this
10:49and has Peter taken on too much
10:51this is my most ambitious paint work yet
10:54is this my fault before we even started
10:57was it always going to fail
11:04we're on a sustainable mission
11:06to turn on love rooms
11:07into dream spaces
11:08redesigning
11:09and revamping
11:10with clever repurposing
11:11upcycling
11:12and second hand buys
11:14in Wexford
11:15the makeover is about to get started
11:18carpenter Julia arrives
11:19to join the gang
11:20and there will be plenty
11:22for everyone to do today
11:24Julia I'm going to pair you with Martin today
11:26we're going to repurpose these bookcases
11:28Karen I'm going to get us set up with some jobs
11:30maybe outside enjoy this good weather
11:32Peter plans to flip the script
11:34on these well-loved bookcases
11:36so my idea for them is
11:38when they're on their side
11:39that they become almost like a bit of a workstation
11:41okay
11:41and if we can get like a door on each side
11:43I wanted to kind of save us some time
11:45and come with doors that would fit
11:46so I've got some kitchen cabinetry doors
11:48in fairness to Martin
11:49and he'll be embarrassed that I say this
11:51but anything he puts his mind to he can do
11:54there you go
11:55there you go I know
11:56happy days
11:56we need a prime
11:57all the furniture that we are painting
12:00do you paint much furniture
12:01or do you have any obstacle in yourself
12:02I don't really Peter
12:03I'm terrible at DOI
12:05that's why I feel me and Martin came together
12:08because we you know
12:09we compliment each other that way
12:10boom baby we have cupboards
12:13you ain't shelving anymore
12:15I think I painted my room
12:17once with my father years ago
12:18I hated it then
12:20and I still hate painting now
12:22okay Peter
12:23how is this going to go
12:26is there a technique to this
12:28you don't need to go too heavy
12:29it doesn't need to be too thick
12:31before we do a colour
12:32we'll give it a light sand
12:33I'm excited to actually have to learn
12:35and I think it'll be really good
12:37for the girls to see me doing things like that
12:39when you're showing your guests
12:41you can go
12:41see that little bump in that paint there
12:43that was me
12:47in Finglas Emily needs our help
12:50to transform her brand new living room
12:53it's a blank canvas
12:55and I don't honestly
12:56don't know where to start with it
12:59thankfully designer Kathy Angelini
13:01always has a plan
13:02so for this space
13:04I have created two
13:06proper functioning
13:08designated living and dining areas
13:11I'm also going to add
13:12lots of texture and warmth
13:14to make this space more inviting
13:18Kathy welcome to Finglas
13:20talk to you about the space
13:21we're actually doing the makeover on
13:23so as you walk into Emily's apartment
13:25you're greeted
13:27with a big empty room at the moment
13:29and it's a living and dining space
13:31you've got a sofa
13:33yeah that's new
13:34our budget is fairly tight
13:36so one or two pieces to work with is great
13:39the living room is an important room
13:41it's one of the first rooms
13:42that people will see when they come in
13:44talk to me then about your design
13:46Emily did mention she loves the colour pink
13:49I think Emily and I are going to go on a house on fire
13:51well I'm not including the colour pink in this design
13:55I'm going to go with really soft greens
13:57it's not pink Kathy for the love of God
14:00soft green doesn't really give you pink vibes
14:03no it doesn't
14:04she did mention she liked nature
14:06she liked the beach
14:07it's going to have a little bit of a coastal
14:10I see where you're going now
14:12we're back on track
14:13keep talking Kathy
14:14it is going to be a really soft feminine
14:18beautiful space I hope
14:22how did we do with our budget?
14:24there's not a lot left
14:26it being a big space
14:27time and budget
14:29budget are obviously going to be factors that are going to be stretched to their limits
14:39okay
14:40hello ladies
14:41hello yes
14:45okay
14:47this is a really big space
14:50yeah it's lovely isn't it
14:52I can't wait to see what you do with it Kathy
14:54so this is the mood board oh my goodness oh wow there is no pink here you mentioned you like
15:02the
15:02nature you like the beach and that yeah i took those few words and the fish tank and turned it
15:09into this color scheme so lots of neutrals sandy colors um bit of seafoam green gorgeous yeah i
15:17did think there was going to be a little pop of pink in there somewhere because it's my favorite
15:21color but yeah i love the green love the green
15:25we are getting rid of the fireplace oh yay yeah so i've got some gorgeous beautiful tiles and i'm
15:33hoping to tile the hearth and the insert is this where you tell us the tiles are pink no it's
15:40still
15:40green still on the green yeah here we go here's what's inside the van oh wow
15:51wow okay there was a couple of pieces that i'm a little bit curious as to how they're gonna fit
15:57in the space what do you think of the lovely tuscan yeah i like that that's through my eye
16:02they were 20 euro from second chance furniture yeah so the colors and the greens and the browns which
16:08is lovely yeah i think you're being polite no i like that i like that she was definitely being
16:15polite and a little bit quiet and that's always not a good thing even i'm looking in here and i'm
16:21thinking what was i doing when i was shopping i don't know how the leather is gonna fit in the
16:30space but
16:30yeah is that shade no subtle shade i got the leather chair from adverts and that was 95 euro
16:40that van reveal was a little bit disappointing at the moment she looks like a like the contents of a
16:47skiff
16:50henny and pippa must love this outside space they really do they love the green
16:55now this has been a real success story for you getting your own home as anyone who's trying to
17:00buy a home in ireland they don't make it easy no it's it's extremely difficult like i've been saving
17:07years i never thought it would happen okay but i stay determined and yeah this managed i know you've
17:13got some people helping with this makeover you got your mom is helping yeah your aunt and uncle yeah
17:17yeah my auntie adrian and my uncle carl are helping and you've got a great relationship with
17:21your uncle carl you're very close he was always like a father figure uh to me because my dad died
17:28when i was younger okay i was only 12 13 and so he kind of stepped into that role so
17:33it's safe to say
17:34he spoiled you growing up then he did he definitely did he still does yeah thank you made that never
17:39stop should we go inside and see what kathy's up to yeah let's go because you know emily sometimes i
17:44just don't trust her in wexford peter is getting started on the most tricky part of his design
17:50the circus tent ceiling good luck peter have you ever done a ceiling like this before no there's
17:57a lot of prep work and planning 40 to 50 things that we need to mask out before we can
18:02even start
18:02painting in here we're going to be using a low voc paint so if you're conscious about the environment
18:07it is something to look out for using low voc they tend to be water-based paints they're safer to
18:12be
18:12around and when it comes to paint if you know you're done with the paint why not to send it
18:15to your
18:16local recycling center most recycling centers take on paint and what they're able to do is actually
18:20group it all together and retint it and reuse it for someone else's projects we are finished
18:29in finglas at emily's it's day one of the makeover and kathy has been rummaging in someone else's rubbish
18:38i passed a skip last night and i saw this phase i was looking for a vase for emily's room
18:44might upcycle it a little bit but this is a good sign trevor arrives to get started
18:50and emily's favorite uncle carl is here to help to be involved i'd be asked to be involved i'm very
18:56proud i'm delighted and i'm delighted for emily she's worked hard for it and she she deserves it
19:02what do you think trevor what's behind it well it's aesthetic anyways it's not uh it's not in
19:08keeping with i wouldn't think that's a chimney yeah i think it's a false chimney and here's
19:12an electric fire yeah we can em bring that to a wee center or so and get it recycled for
19:18free
19:18oh and who's this guy we've done you going man stuck in the back of the fireplace
19:28carl was really keen to get stuck in and help where he could as much as he could he'll literally
19:33do anything if you ask him he's such a sweet self so just be careful there because i do want
19:38to use
19:39the top for a shelf for water oh there's lots of spiders oh that's our cue to head back to
19:50wexford
19:50where as the paint goes up inside outside juliet recruited a new assistant when i say go you press
19:56it's very likely right go okay that's all right you're okay you're very good at this it was a pro
20:05i think that was a really nice nice for ava to see a female carpenter is from that i was
20:11painting
20:11and ava just had the confidence then to say mom i'll do that with you and always be aware of
20:16the
20:16side dripping and just like get it off like maybe it's late for herself now after doing it to show
20:22us
20:22it was lovely i clearly have difficulties with painting but i've learned a lot
20:27you can do all our paintings you know i definitely think you can just give me the job in the
20:31future
20:33end of day one and it's been both fantastic because the family are so lovely and such great
20:38reception to my designs
20:42i did not expect that
20:44no
20:46peter just went beyond what i expected it's perfect now for me i don't want him to go
20:51any crazier
20:53my favorite color is pink
20:54well we're ticking all the boxes then aren't we there you go
20:57i feel like i'm spiraling a little because
21:01we're just not where we need to be with that painting and that's on
21:05probably me to be honest because this is my most ambitious paint work yet
21:10is this my fault before we even started was it always going to fail
21:14it's definitely adventurous
21:16don't say that peter back in finglas trevor and carl finished tearing out the fireplace ready for a new look
21:23i like this world
21:26and outside cathy's rooted out emily's favorite items from the van
21:30really emily i wonder if mom mandy will like them as much
21:35we're going to prime these two gorgeous canvases
21:43deliciously yummy
21:45when we prime these we're going to create little textured art pieces
21:49lovely
21:49i'm actually glad we are going to be painting them
21:52me too definitely
21:55back inside cathy is ready to fit the new fire surround
22:00it's one of the main features in the room
22:02it's really important to me and i think it's going to be really important to the overall design
22:06yeah i don't love it
22:12you know usually you put something up and you're like oh yeah i can see it
22:16this is working but i'm not totally in love with it
22:21let's hear what emily thinks
22:28okay what do you think
22:29to be honest if i'm going to be 100% honest i'm not a fan of the frame
22:34okay so our plan would be to paint the surround
22:38what kind of color is it going to be the same as the walls
22:40same as the walls
22:41okay that could work
22:42yeah
22:43you don't love it though
22:44i don't i don't love it as it is now
22:46okay so a lot of work
22:48yeah a lot of work for a fire surround that she doesn't love that's the thing
22:56coming up cathy and the team are under pressure
22:59trevor is behind i'm a little bit behind and we have a long list of jobs
23:04and julia has a moment
23:08i think this is actually hard for getting birth
23:15it's day two of the makeover in ballyfad wexford
23:19and peter is geared up ready to go
23:23come on we've got a room today
23:25i am tired today
23:27last night we had to kind of work after hours
23:30i had to rope my sisters in we had to put the first coat on the units because peter said
23:36we hadn't done enough work yesterday
23:38the painting is so elaborate on this design we also need to paint all the furniture we're bringing in i
23:42can't afford to have any wet
23:44paint anywhere so i need the painting in the room finished and i need the painting of all those objects
23:49in the room finished
23:49and something that definitely needs painting is the stage peter wants to create for those performing loving girls
23:56so we have a dining table and we have a drawer for underneath the bed
24:01got this in a charity shop he said there's no legs and i was like
24:04great that's exactly what i want obviously this is just like a drawer from an old bed collectively they were
24:0912 euro
24:10i'm assuming that's for the sides yeah
24:12yeah it's just some old kitchen countertop it is strong it is ugly but we'll paint the whole thing and
24:16it'll look like a
24:17it'll look like hollywood it'll be a stage fit for queens
24:21listen i don't doubt you peter but how is that rocking horse going to be fit for absolutely anything
24:29it is a vision of mine to have this painted but perhaps not to the full degree that you would
24:33think
24:33okay but i'm gonna leave that decision up to you personally i i like the rust right now i know
24:39she's a bit apprehensive
24:40i just hope she hangs in there when it comes to exposing some of that rust because that's really
24:44what i want for the design if this came out of the van i was like what on earth is
24:49that young
24:49it did concern me a bit having a big rusty toy in a child's playroom but i have a feeling
24:54it's
24:55going to be out of arms reach where i don't know
25:01in thingless as the first coat of paint goes on the walls the ladies finish off concealing those
25:07unique canvases i think these are looking good what you think yeah i think they're good
25:12but kathy is feeling the pressure and is hiding out in the spare room emily doesn't love the surround
25:19that we've actually bought and i kind of get her point so plan b trevor is going to make one
25:29and i can use that fireplace and another project there's a bit of cutting to it i just have to
25:36take my time just to get the dimensions right because i don't want to leave too much for the
25:39painter to do while trevor tackles that so precisely it's back to those stunning canvases
25:48so we have the first step done the second step is that textured layer so we're going to mix up
25:54some cauliflower and put it on i want this artwork to be really kind of chaotic looking
26:00artwork can be so expensive but upcycling old canvases is a great trick there we go
26:08i wouldn't touch it though yeah you're happy with that yeah kathy may be happy but you don't
26:15sound so sure emily in wexford it's all about the paint three two one
26:25wow oh my god that's so damn fine and karen is getting really into it there's a bit of a
26:32turnaround i will be really proud of it to say oh yeah i did do that i know it's something
26:37so
26:37simple and i imagine loads of people be like karen it's a bit of paint but i just probably would
26:42have shied away from this i think i'm enjoying it time for the repurposed bookshelves to be fitted
26:51or not i should go in
27:00one more one more that's it
27:06ideally my head would go back another inch
27:11i think that might be as far as we're going to get a piece of food
27:15what i had planned for the countertops isn't going to work because the built-ins are now too
27:20far out from the wall we now need to scramble to find a material that is of good quality enough
27:25that it can become the new countertops in those and we are out in the middle of nowhere and i
27:30have
27:30no idea where we're going to get it
27:35it's the second day of emily's makeover and it's been a restless night for kathy
27:40we fell behind a little bit yesterday just issues of the fireplace so trevor is behind
27:47i'm a little bit behind and we have a long list of jobs
27:51thankfully one job is almost complete the custom-made fire surround
28:00not fully but it's beginning to look more like a fire surround
28:07i'm actually genuinely nervous the amount of time we have left is only very short i just hope that
28:13we can get all of the things on the task list done we're going to restyle these into shaker doors
28:18gorgeous we'll have to prioritize the bigger tasks and just really put our heads down and get stuck in
28:24and get it done might look a little bit funny first but by the time his painting is going to
28:28look
28:28good trust the process that's the spirit emily
28:35back in balifad martin has returned with tops for those units brilliant martin what have you got for us
28:41oh tell me
28:44the neighbor had a bit over there thanks be to god so he just ran out the door and he
28:48was i don't know where he went
28:50but he came back with two countertops i think he owes someone a favor
28:53i'm so grateful he was able to bring them
29:04i think this is actually hard for getting birth
29:09okay while karen's painting the stage outside peter is showing her sister some tricks of the trade
29:14the backdrop to the stage has stripes and i'm getting the stripe to continue down on the stage
29:20and i'm thinking if i could continue the stripe in velvet don't tell karen about this
29:26and the old poof is also getting an upgrade not me
29:30when i opened the van karen said she liked the fabric unfortunately it's not in the best mix so it
29:34does need recovered so i have some scrap fabric here and then i'm taking these old um curtains as well
29:41from marketplace and then i'll be staple gun and wrapping this in a new fabric as well there was
29:46a fringe on it which i am in the process of dying as well so to kind of reclaim that
29:50fringe as well
29:51waste nothing do you like the color yeah floy do you want to help i don't think so
30:01finally that's that done so much had to be done today i think we kind of caught up if it
30:07wasn't for
30:07the sisters i don't think we would have been there they really tackled a lot of the painting jobs
30:11done and dusted i really love surprising people in the end so hopefully we still have that wow
30:20factor when it comes to tomorrow and the girls really love their playroom
30:23in finglis they're still working on those old canvases but they're looking good i think i'm just
30:30going to go for black colors it's like painting pebble dash you know you need to get into all of
30:35the grooves the grooves and trevor has a novel way of upcycling the doors to emily's sideboard
30:41this is tricky kathy wants to circle in the center of it so uh my template the trusty ben
30:49it's so cool what you can do when you put a little bit of imagination into it and this has
30:54taken a
30:54little bit of imagination there was a lot going on sanding painting priming putting piece of
31:01furniture together all right there we go brilliant lots of jobs for kathy and she was i think a little
31:08bit overwhelmed with the tasks that we had to do hi kathy how are you getting on oh i am
31:15busy
31:15salvaging so i am i am busy salvaging do you remember this do you remember this oh yeah that's the
31:20plinth from the fireplace oh you always told it was granite but it was timber yeah you're brilliant
31:25at using every little bit yeah speaking of speaking of see this top i want to use this
31:32to have a wall shelf over that sideboard you were routing the doors so a wall shelf overhead
31:39trevor's brilliant he works really fast and i did give him a lot i put a lot of pressure on
31:44him
31:45but you know we do have a lot going on tomorrow so the more he can do i'm just gonna
31:50let him at it
31:50where would you like it all right so we're going over the sideboard here directly over it there yeah
31:56yeah perfect cool yeah right okay we're doing we're doing okay but i am exhausted yeah
32:10coming up will kathy's makeover get over the line it's the last day and we don't have one job
32:17actually completed and will peter impress his little critics it all comes down to my toughest
32:24critics yet and that's those three girls they're not gonna lie to me so i just really hope they like
32:33it's the final day of the playroom makeover in wexford it's been a bit of a whirlwind not gonna
32:39lie but i'm really excited to show the girls last night karen and martin blocked up the windows and
32:44the door so they can't see anything hopefully come later on they get a really big surprise and hopefully
32:49they like the surprise i still have lots of little jobs like repositioning the tv thankfully the
32:57electrician has arrived just dropping it hopefully being just there it needs to be close to the
33:01scalp so uh now i'm going to better drop down a little bit there's a creative project for karen
33:08i've got this cushion from a charity shop okay i thought we could do like a little pretty craft and
33:12with it being a kid's room just have a little bit of fun these are just kids craft pipe cleaners
33:17hopefully this takes you a wee while and keeps you out of that room and peter's got another job for
33:22martin it's just a little star and motif how are you are you a creative person not really
33:27uh i failed arton jr so i wouldn't be my strong pipe now so how badly did you feel oh
33:33dear sounds
33:34like my cue it's time to see what peter has been up to patsy i've hitched a ride with martin's
33:46dad
33:47patsy i always like to arrive in style i'll see you later for that drink thank you why am i
33:55not surprised
33:55it was a little bumpy and at my age i was like there's a lot going on i have a
33:59job for you i told patsy we go for it oh for god's sake
34:04we are filling a bean bag this was just a pattern i got off the internet i measured the digital
34:11pattern
34:11onto some old wrapping paper that i had and then i used that template to cut out the fabric notoriously
34:17bean bags have over the years been filled with polystyrene but we are filling it with bio foam it's called
34:22so it starts off its life as a vegetable they're like tic tacs yeah i feel like we should stand
34:27up
34:28i don't know if i trust you for this oh no no yeah why not this bill shit why are
34:35you moving
34:35why are you moving because you're moving one down yeah and you know what peter i have that thing to
34:42do
34:42with patsy hello got my headset in yeah i'm just a wax friend how are you ryan bye peter how
34:48am i
34:48supposed to do this myself come on peter what's that little task when in thingless kathy is dealing
34:56with a lot more it's the last day and we don't have one job actually completed trevor i'm gonna get
35:04you tiling straight away i know you started it last night there's a list i can't even think of it
35:09right
35:09now and that list includes grouting painting sanding perfecting and stressing for the next few
35:16hours we need to get everything done um and then need to get emily out of there and get put
35:23it all
35:23together so a lot to do you can't see any more time to go okay later best of luck this
35:31is the last
35:31piece of wood we've left it used to be the old heart and now we're going to use it this
35:37way
35:37tile on top of it and put it in as a gable with the last of the wood used kathy
35:46needs one more piece
35:47of salvage for a special project oh my god perfect this is a surprise for emily i have an old
35:55cot
35:55mattress which you know can't be used again as a cot mattress so it's a perfect thing to recycle into
36:01something like a dog bed the little pooches will love that but it is another job don't stress i'm here
36:10to help trevor i've been told you need some help yes i do you're going to help me salvage the
36:16old
36:16fireplace this is the pleasure of this tool this is what you and i do two men and just tapping
36:23into
36:23our basic instinct to do stuff yes and upcycle i won't do that because i'll probably hurt myself
36:29now what we're at we've cut these out trevor who wrote those names pip and penny it wasn't me it
36:33was kathy you're going to route out over her yeah letters with this have you ever used a router before
36:39funny enough trevor never in my life oh jesus trevor i don't know about this oh my god oh trevor
36:46no
36:46oh i think i've turned that p into his head oh trevor actually maybe i'm good at this
36:57kathy's thought of everyone and everything i hope say for example you and i are here and we're having
37:04a little tender moment on the sofa and i might go darling and we'll have a kiss and a cuddle
37:08and you say oh go fetch me something yeah and i go i'll fetch you something
37:17coffee table goes here sit back down okay let's yeah you can't come out of that let's go
37:23yes kathy yes she knows what she's doing
37:31oh my god did you hit your head oh yes brian's right kathy's not i think i might need to
37:38go higher
37:41as the finishing touches happen in the playroom i'm catching up with karen and martin
37:47have you enjoyed the diy side of things kind of it more than you thought you would
37:51yeah definitely you had built the house and it's only recently that i'm kind of putting my stamp
37:57on it a bit more and so yeah it was really enjoyable to see that i could do these things
38:02martin said he's he's buying me a toolbox for christmas now what are you actually expecting from
38:08initially so initially i was like oh mood board oh fab peter and then i go to the van and
38:14he
38:14produces this thing and i'm like oh my god what is that interesting to see the finish
38:19oh my god i stumbled on the rocking horse i really wanted to use it because i love that
38:24vintage idea that it'll bring to the room i thought about like displaying it on the wall
38:29and i thought nah too boring yes teamwork baby have the girls been able to say goodbye to some
38:36toys has that been difficult we're doing well with uh decluttering the toys and uh making our boxes
38:43for donations what many people don't know is that toy libraries are growing around the country
38:48and they're just much like book libraries and that you just rent a toy for a while
38:52and when you're done with it you bring it back
38:57it's nearly time to see the room and i am so excited but as excited as i may be it
39:02all comes
39:02down to my toughest critics yet and that's those three girls they're not going to lie to me so
39:06i just really hope they like it
39:14from disorganized
39:18to dreamlike
39:23the conroy girls now have a colorful theatrical circus themed playroom with a big top
39:29fishing for three stars with dedicated spaces for little hands to easily tidy toys and books away
39:44oh my gosh oh my god is this our flair oh my god peter
39:55it was overwhelming it's hard to take it all in really wasn't it oh my god like it really was
40:02the rocking horse the rocking horse i mean how stunning is this oh my god that is class
40:08that light just what is a showstopper and it's going to be such a talking piece and i'm so
40:14delighted that i can say i did a part of that the ceiling i'll use the bathing over the ceiling
40:19at the start were you but the ceiling is very impressive now i have to say pulled off
40:22i'm doing a show
40:26that stage was a dining table and an underbed storage and a little bit of paint trickery
40:32and like now that has inspired them they were so excited what's your favorite part of the room
40:38my favorite part i have no idea everything everything look at your beanbag i know i'm sorry i took
40:45that beanbag brian helped oh my god girls look the chairs have your name on it is this the best
40:51playroom ever yeah i'm so grateful i actually got a little bit emotional like i felt the energy
40:59from karen just how grateful she was thank you oh you're so welcome it's just amazing what can be
41:07achieved and definitely has changed my my thinking and i'm definitely gonna try more projects myself
41:14in fingerless kathy is almost there everything today was so hard to just finish and get over the
41:23line there were so many elements because it's such a large room nothing was completed until about
41:29two hours ago we did a lot but we got there a big space that needed big love
41:47this living come dining room has been transformed using natural accents and a relaxing color palette
41:55into a cool and contemporary room for emily and her pooches to start their next chapter
42:04emily and penny and pippa here we go oh my god
42:12hi hi oh wow oh i absolutely love it do you oh kathy do you love it oh it's stunning
42:22it was just an
42:23overwhelming feeling like i absolutely loved everything i was having a little look around
42:28and i did get a bit emotional it exceeded my expectations like honestly it was stunning
42:36oh this is gorgeous absolutely yeah it was perfect the fireplace like that was one of the things i was
42:42kind of worried about but it really really turned out amazing the old fireplace is still very much part
42:47of this whole it is it is so the top piece is the floating shelf we have here over the
42:53sideboard
42:54and part of the hooks for the dog leads is also used from the old fireplace oh wow bowls for

44:02and
44:02i'll be able to settle in and yeah i'll have a lot more um excuses to invite people over

44:14this room and he made it the most beautiful space for our family to enjoy and i'll be forever grateful
