05:59We have a bunch of parameters, Tite and Realistic, we haven't focused on, so there is an underlying image and
06:04I think we have 256 images in there at the moment, we have plans to allow you to paint on
06:11to it as well, you can also manipulate the colors really easily, so like with a few strokes you can
06:15change the look of it, you can also change the texture and the tightness, and how much it boils and
06:20how much it's smooth.
06:21Fancy!
07:00Now you can export your objects as well into I assume the files where you told us I could be
07:04wrong and then you can use it to put it for 3D printing or anything that's friendly with that kind
07:08of application and we've seen some pretty cool 3D printed videos like we saw Francis and we saw Johnny's mech
07:14here it was fragile but it was really cool it was hand painted it was amazing and the fact that
07:19this we could also 3D print like a little mini 3D skull hill or whatever make it own little Indiana
07:23Jones that I don't know it's really amazing but is there like any more you can talk about how that
07:26plays out or like what kind of specifics you have into that kind of stuff?
07:30So this is the way it works for the moment and the way it works in the beta trial and
07:32as I say everything will evolve but the way it works in the beta trial is every dream gets its
07:36own web page and if the owner of that dream has made it available for others to download or if
07:41you own the dream yourself you made it yourself you'll be able to click on a button on the website
07:44and it just gives you a zip file right then and there so basically one click and you get a
07:48zip file the zip file contains a bunch of different things right now it contains a polygonal model of everything
07:54that's in your dream so if it's made out of multiple pieces you get the pieces as separate meshes and
07:58there's also one that's like all mashed together so the
08:00the really cool thing is if you've built something which is like segmented like animatable like a character you'll get
08:05like individual pieces separately but you'll also get everything in one piece so depending on where you want to take
08:09it whether you want to print the whole thing as a whole or whether you want to print it in
08:13pieces and then glue it back together again we kind of try and keep it flexible for you and I
08:17mean actually talking about pieces what you can see behind is Karim is like loaded in some kind of truck
08:24model that someone modeled
08:25I think John Beach made this one and the cool thing in dreams is you don't have to use stuff
08:30for how it was originally intended right you can just take something and like yeah this was originally a train
08:34truck but like actually now he's making junk world and he's just kind of building up an environment and then
08:39when you if you were to take this dream and you were to try to download the zip file that
08:43represents the stream you get like the pieces individually and then you get the pieces assembled and you can choose
08:48how you want to where you want to go with it
08:50that's really my blow and I love how you're being like either way kind of open source where okay well
08:54I was doing I will have this as a ps4 exclusive but you're slowly giving out features where you can
08:58like have it so you can expand outside of the ps4 like the export feature for instance
09:01I'd love dreams to become a tool in everyone's arsenal like if you're a creative person whether you're musical whether
09:07you're artistic whether you're into making games or stories or movies dream is like a new tool in your tool
09:13belt and it's all you need to do this stuff like I hope that dreams is like all you need
09:18but at the same time we have to acknowledge that
09:20the world out there they have other outlets they have 3d printing they have unity and unreal and these other
09:25things and so like dreams is like an absolutely unique new addition to the to the like weapons of creativity
09:32in the modern world
09:33I love that too it's like something I don't never saw any video game company do before you guys are
09:38doing it so what makes you special and awesome
09:41what will levels be held on a ps4 or on a cloud-based system
09:44so right now it's on the cloud and there's no reason why we can't save it on your like if
09:49you know lvp like you have your moon um so the beta trial is going to be online connected only
09:55and there will be some really great advantages to that so basically if your playstation crashes if our beta is
09:59not finished and there's some bugs in there you'll never lose any work because it's always on the server so
10:03basically as soon as you boot it
10:04wow it's right there so right now kareem is quitting and everything he's doing is being saved straight to the
10:09server as well so he doesn't have to hit save he doesn't have to like keep paranoidly like you know
10:14save save save save save the server knows everything um and so the cloud is actually helpful there and then
10:20uh yeah we can absolutely add a feature to save locally to your save game on your hard drive but
10:24um uh for the beta trial um cloud is the best place to save this well that's pretty cool the
10:31cloud i have to do that
10:33yeah and the cloud we have here is like a little private uh little box cloud i tweeted up to
10:37it um yes nux
10:40yeah nux intel nux and uh yeah i mean uh i think that uh we will try to support whatever
10:45workflow you guys do part of what the beta trial is about is seeing how the community use this because
10:49we have one way of using dreams and site media molecule but it's going to be easy to see how
10:53you guys use it and like we will evolve the game uh depending on you know we'll look at what's
10:57going on and try and respond to it
11:01can you guys talk about that yet because i know you'll be showing sculpting and stuff
11:05i'm not going to i'm not going to bore you by like rambling on and on and on but we
11:08actually have them in this build but they're pretty rough so we're not going to show them right now
11:12okay
11:14but there's um uh pause to audio coders that have been doing a great job so i can kind of
11:19give you a feel so dreams is about performing right
11:22yes
11:22so the idea for um dreams is that like you perform with instruments you can you can bring in samples
11:28uh whether they're the
11:30we're going to supply thousands and thousands of samples of our own and if you just want to use them
11:34and dump them in your level like make a footstep or an explosion just like any other asset you'll be
11:39able to search
11:39sound explosion there it is place it down remix it but what's really awesome about dreams is you can drill
11:45in
11:45and perform with that sound so i could like this like there's a hard line between a sound effect and
11:51a piece of music
11:52so i could take um sound with a footstep and then i could like perform it on a rhythm and
11:57then i'm like
11:57that makes a good drum beat and now i'm gonna like okay now i'm gonna do a kalimba sound like
12:03a you know
12:03like a clucked kind of musical sound and we map the different notes of scale to the buttons on the
12:10dualshock controller so you can like play melodies or you can remix other people's melodies so like
12:15everything you see for visual creation we're applying those same ideas including like using
12:22your hand and movement strokes to performance to sound so um the details will be forthcoming shortly
12:29that sounds amazing already like i'm like exclusive info right here's amazing this is like wow i just
12:34i'm gonna get my head together a little bit okay
12:40i trust you we can't wait till it's ready to be yeah we can't wait oh speaking of virtual reality
12:46hello birdie told me it might it might not be possible can you talk about that a little bit
12:50oh yay
12:53like this is the deal um dreams is amazing in vr we have to do it it's amazing i'm very
12:58excited
12:58so the number one thing for every game vr is to hit a good frame rate so the thing about
13:03vr is like
13:04unless you can hit a very high frame rate then you're gonna feel ill when you're moving ahead
13:08yeah
13:09we have some fixer bustling but the reason i have to be cautious is because we haven't actually put
13:13um a lot of time and effort we're a small studio so we're focusing on non-vr because i think
13:18the
13:18majority of people who play dreams initially will be in the non-vr world but we absolutely have to
13:23do vr and our biggest battle which is the same for every title will be to hit frame rate and
13:29what's
13:29cool about dreams is actually we we change the frame rate depending on the scene so simpler scenes
13:34will run at 60 already even without any effort yeah the simple scenes the uh the vr is probably
13:43going to be pretty pretty easy to do but for like more complicated ones it'll be tough so our phone's
13:47about to die with all the questions so they wanted to be lost in the abyss it's like two percent
13:51left
13:51cool so yeah vr is like i don't know the dates for it but we've got to try it right
13:56the dreams could be
13:57the best thing in vr ever so uh yeah sorry about that yep vr is awesome um what about motion
14:02sickness
14:02how do you plan to tackle on that besides the framework issue we haven't tried it yet so we'll
14:05have to see i mean with like the point i was making about motion sickness is a general one it's
14:09not a
14:09dream sprint right like in vr you have to be super aware of what you're doing with the player and
14:15um
14:15like make sure they're not sick and it's just about making sure we design it well we'll do a good
14:19job
14:19and and and just like every other game we have to take that into account but i'm excited and i
14:23think
14:23it'll be it'll be good awesome uh how many players can can create in one session like do you have
14:29like a whole canvas where you get invite as many people as you want many and like jam together
14:33like a jam session yeah okay that's yeah at the moment there's no limit which is a bit crazy because
14:39there is a limit in the sense that like it'll get just chaos so um the lag a lot of
14:44the limit is going
14:44to be about um uh it's like a balance between what connections you have like broadband and like
14:53right now the game doesn't place a limit and part of having the beach travel will be about finding
14:58what the right limits are like what works well in the wild like it's one thing to test on your
15:02office network it's nothing to test on your phone broadband connections so uh yeah i don't know i
15:09mean we've done like four five six player sessions but we may have to cap it if it gets too
15:13intense i
15:14don't know i mean there's there's uh it's all about the experiment hopefully we'll see in the beta
15:18hopefully we'll see how far we can go it's just tests those are awesome
15:21maybe in the test bed too they showed us back in the stream a while ago that dave head yeah
15:26um
15:27let's see what we have here uh try to find a good one uh oh yeah um so you said
15:36this game will have
15:36logic like logic that's really friendly and stuff i don't know how much you can talk about that just
15:41yet but um yeah if you know the lbp logic then it's that but evolved and i mean we we've
15:46been replaying
15:47little big planet 2 and a little bit of a little planet 3 to kind of remind ourselves of the
15:51details
15:51of like exactly what was good in the little planet electronics and what can be improved
15:55and there's actually a cool system that we're working on on top of that which is new which
15:58we didn't have an lbp which is basically um the idea is this anything you can do in the game
16:03whether it's like driving a car uh or like uh using the create tools or um creating objects
16:09stamping objects down uh you can hit record just like you saw earlier in the stream
16:13and uh you can use that as like um what happens when you do something so the idea is you
16:19can make
16:19a level and you can say when the player crosses the bridge do this and you're like system says
16:24well what do you want to happen and you're like well i'll hit record and i want three rocks to
16:27be
16:28created and then i want the skull to fall over and then i want the ground to lift up right
16:32so you
16:32just do it using the tools if you know how to play dreams you know how to record the effects
16:36that
16:37you want to happen so the idea is that you can then wire um the cause of like i don't
16:41know player
16:42like something or player jumps over or something happens and then you can do the effect using just
16:46record mode so that's pretty cool for beginners because you don't have to worry about like wiring
16:50up movers and gyros and all those other companies they'll be there for the advanced creators they're
16:56taking from the stream yeah it's just like you can just uh do it really quickly by doing it with
17:02the tools that's really cool like i'll be trying to see logic being performance it's like everything
17:05else is i wonder if that's possible well i guess that's the answer to that question is just what i
17:09said
17:09so i think the way that you perform is you hit record and you perform and then under the hood
17:15wires up that performance to the gadgets so that's how you do it so like the performances you just use
17:21the tools you're not thinking about like you're doing gadgets under the hood it's gadgets yeah like
17:26the way that you do the performance is you just play the game you use the tools that's really cool
17:32uh how about the story mode like i know you guys were gonna make like a scene to introduce the
17:36players on dreams like how to interact stuff like the way you're cleverly gonna do tutorials like you
17:40said before like mowing the lawns secretly like like subtracting um like the data like like erasing
17:47something and stuff like that like for the story mode i was watching um uh paris interview um a couple
17:51days ago actually on the way here and uh i realized you were talking about the story mode how um
17:56you're
17:56gonna have characters inside you just help their dreams like part of the story i don't know if you can
18:00talk about that yeah yeah yeah i mean i the moment we're focusing on the beach content because that's
18:04our focus is to get this into people's hands and um the really cool thing is that like um uh
18:10the
18:10thing about the the beta is it's not focused on the story so so um the story's gonna come later
18:15basically we haven't finished the story we're still working on it yeah um so if i talk to you about
18:19the story i'd be making it up okay i mean uh we have some ideas for the story but our
18:25focus right now is
18:26for the creators because basically um we use this as a way in towards uh once the beat is winding
18:33up
18:33the story is really to bring in everybody the mass market the gamers yeah if you're not into creating
18:37you'll be able to play our story but uh for the beta audience for you guys who are really into
18:42the
18:42game uh the focus is to create like what do you guys make with it what stories do you want
18:47to make
18:47yeah uh so i mean uh i can't really answer the question about our story yet because like we haven't
18:52finished it yet and i would just be like i'll tell you something today and then it's gonna be a
18:57big
18:57surprise a really big surprise in the end that's the most important part yeah everybody we have some
19:03ideas for what's gonna be in it oh surprise a big surprise yeah uh speaking of the beta um hopefully
19:10comes out early next year well obviously uh we can't wait to see what you guys have in store for
19:15that um it's gonna be a lot of fun i i don't know anything about the beta just saying but
19:18i know it's
19:19gonna be a lot of fun because seeing dreams is a lot of fun already yeah
19:22everything you've seen today everything if you check out the streams earlier i believe that some
19:25of the play content that we've created is seen everything you've seen you'll be able to do in
19:30the beta and more there'll be there'll be hopefully more features in the beta like exactly what we put
19:33in it should be everything you've seen today polished improved bugs removed so um you know we are
19:39going to put everything we possibly can in the beta and the beta isn't even just a single thing right
19:44like yeah gradually over time like yeah the trade-off you always make when you're making
19:49games is like how much we put out that's polished versus you guys want everything all the time but
19:54at the same time you want a good experience so the balance is going to be like um we will
19:58give
19:58you stuff as soon as we can as fast as we can and it's just about making sure that it's
20:02always a good
20:03experience yep a lot of people can't wait for that um especially on twitter like it's going
20:08where's the beta i'm like soon i don't know but soon
20:13like it starts out it starts out as one thing and then we keep patching it listening watching
20:18seeing what you guys create um i hope the beach trail like runs forever you know like i think
20:23forever and ever well it's just not one thing it's not like we do it and then we leave it
20:29we forget
20:29about it it's a thing that's going to evolve with the product definitely um speaking of characters
20:34like i just saw so many characters already like a pancake you guys made the last of us the um
20:38the quicker dude and everything was so fascinating and you can make like four look at creatures
20:42right too like you have multiple legs multiple hands not just a standard uh human biped yeah
20:47the biped is the most easy way to make characters but of course as soon as you say someone there's
20:51a
20:51limitation like an lbp you say there's three layers and they're like aha find it and um i feel like
20:57uh for dreams uh we will be focused on the biped and immediately uh mike example made the uh banana
21:03uh the um coffee mug which has uh you know like no legs as far as i can see and
21:08um i think lichter's
21:09already made a dog yeah puppy that you can run out around us but he's doing that using the biped
21:14now interestingly you can also use the physics and the joints and systems like that to create
21:18as many arms and limbs and stuff as you like but you won't get the assistance that the biped gives
21:23you
21:23right so the biped is alive it's a biped and um it's already got ai it's already got a walk
21:28cycle so
21:29you guys are going to find creative ways to extend that to all kinds of characters um but the but
21:34the sort of like on the box it says biped but i'm sure you guys will be able to take
21:38it elsewhere
21:39if you want to go um manual and basically wire up the legs with electronics and animation and
21:45gadgets and joints and stuff you can do that too so the sky is really the limit it's just a
21:49question
21:49of how much effort you want to put in that's the thing with dreams like pretty much everything is
21:53going to be possible including stuff we couldn't even imagine you guys are probably going to do it
21:57and it's just a question of what's super easy versus what you can like drill into
22:01i think um the biped is about making it easy easy easy to make characters and who knows maybe we'll
22:06do a special dog meat mode uh in the in the future so many we'll see we'll see what happens
22:11is plenty
22:11of time to plan and to experiment that's what makes dreams really cool because it's the journey we are
22:16doing this all together with you know you guys me and molecule us the community we're all like
22:20working together in a way to find out what dreams is and yeah it's gonna be really cool
22:27like what we think it is but like you guys are gonna help us like flesh out all of the
22:31other
22:31parts of what this would be the best beta ever in terms of capability and in terms of meeting this
22:39yeah um speaking of logic and stuff some people are asking me is it possible to like program
22:43and stuff too like for the advanced users or is that something like you would want to try to do
22:46one day it's not really different yet oh let me see the e3 uh the e3 trailer uh behind the
22:55scenes
22:55actually we built uh using a prototype of a scripting language so we actually had some programming in
23:00there as an experiment it didn't feel particularly dreamy so it's kind of on a back burner right now
23:05like we know how to do it we could do it it's not our focus um i feel like the
23:10electronics and the
23:11gadgets is a little bit more like um fun and game like and it matches better to the performance
23:15like it's difficult to integrate the performance programming but it's definitely something we
23:18could do we have done it and at the moment it's on the back burner to be honest so don't
23:23hold your
23:24breath but on the other hand it's it's actually in the code base it's just currently switched off
23:29and uh we'll have to see where we go with that if you guys are excited by it then the
23:33future is uh
23:34holds many surprises we'll see what happens then uh is there any like type of information you want
23:41all the community about dreams that you haven't said yeah like anything you want to show or anything
23:45at all like like right here right now like anything you just want to be like behind below it like
23:50this
23:50is the last slashing for psx like a little teaser or a surprise or anything no pressure i think we've
24:00everything we can show today oh yeah i mean uh what's one of the pieces i think um you've seen
24:07but maybe you haven't even noticed is like this collections idea so right now at the bottom of the
24:10screen there are these questions and kareem's really been big on this which is the idea of creating
24:15nice
24:15so people might have great taste in in levels and they might have great decent creations and then
24:24they can build up these collections which are almost like um pinterest boards or cool stuff that
24:29they've collected in a particular theme it doesn't even have to be like a theme it could be like
24:32characters it could be like levels it could be colors it could be uh paint brushes and i feel like
24:39people have asked me about like is it lbp and is it tech search and stuff but actually that search
24:44stuff is there you can do tech search but the way more interesting way to find content and dreams
24:48whether you're creating or whether you're playing exactly through like the social side of of like
24:53looking at people and stuff that they've curated and like um i think that's gonna be the uh i think
24:59that's gonna be real game changer for the way dreams feels compared to like um say lbp or other
25:05i just looked down i just saw that chicken without i love this i think that's it is there any
25:11more
25:12questions oh i'll just do one more is there a way to move objects in a piston like way that
25:16isn't puppeteered like is it done in numbers and stuff like it like the original roots from
25:20level planet like yeah there are movers and gadgets and you can like um uh one of the cool things
25:25is
25:25actually that that uh if you if you do an animation which is um up and down there's a grid
25:30mode
25:31assist modes and then you basically have that as an animation you can then scrub the animation so the
25:35really cool thing is yes you can do the simple thing of moving in a piston and then you can
25:38drive that
25:39with logic what's really cool is actually we've built um levels where you can see grab an object
25:44and then move it along a path and then say maybe you can have a little um maybe a platform
25:50that moves
25:50on rails and then you can drive where that platform is using the logic so you can actually have
25:56movers and pistons which move along all two paths so it's even more powerful than lbp so yes it's the
26:02short answer all right so that's basically all the questions i have alex and cream thank you so much
26:06i'll send the lesson in a really awesome way how can we do that let's see okay oh thank you
26:12to you
26:15yeah and um and this replicator tool is designed to make the engine programmer basically me simon and
26:21anton cry with a single click you get to duplicate and make tentacles and repetition which is just such
26:27a powerful fun way to create um but it obviously creates incredibly intricate levels really quickly
26:32and the engine programs cry but it looks like the ps4 can definitely really well um just imagine this
26:37and imagine what you could do and you can replicate and uh duplicate anything and so dreams is what you
26:43make it it's a real gmw game industry because you get so much stuff you can make here that's really
26:48quicker than the actual using polygons and all that jazz because using clouds and points like you
26:52mentioned before it's like that yeah oh point cloud sorry
26:55dreams is as i say i think dreams is going to be a new creative tool in your toolbox it's
26:59like
26:59it's hands alongside all those other things and it's
27:02it's sketchier it's performance here yeah that's a word and performance i love that
27:08that we're like able to bring that kind of jamming to every aspect of game making and i think that
27:13like
27:13i'm so happy that um you guys are into it that everyone's excited to begin to understand the dreams it's
27:18so hard to
27:19to explain to people um but you guys seem to get it thank you and it's like the reason it's
27:23hard to
27:23explain is because this is the most ambitious thing we've ever made it's like absolutely i've
27:28we've had game developers come up to us recently and say i didn't understand it because i didn't
27:32realize how insane you are to like do all of this stuff and dreams is really our our like superstar
27:41what can we do how insane can we go i hope we succeed we can only try that's the that's
27:46the spirit
27:46of media molecule let's jump off a cliff let's build something amazing and see what you guys do
27:51it when when we put it in your hands that's the that's the the payoff right the payoff for us
27:56as a team
27:56of media molecule is when you guys the community start using it dream together hashtag dream together
28:01yeah there it is and i've never seen this creation style so oh wow on a brand new cream has
28:08developed
28:08a new way of creating is that a cell like in the human body have you done that before
28:13this is a new technique this is a new technique debuting here on this stream the asian geometry this is
28:19amazing oh okay okay i've shown this before but like it's cool can spin that donut it's a different
28:25style but it's pretty cool like basically you can take an object on your hand you can spin it and
28:29then you
28:30you can you can use that to kind of bring a bit of randomness and kinetic uh wow this is
28:35so cool a red
28:36blood cell i don't know this is like an amusement park right here who needs to pay a 575 immersion
28:45ticket to six flags or whatever this is like a maze right here this is like a wild attraction
28:49this is unique creation you can't do this any other way uh dreams uh ps4 psx and uh thank you
28:57danny for the stream thank you you too oh we should make like a really big object it's placing it
29:01just
29:01to finish this all off like just get the biggest object you can and just go crazy let's go crazy
