00:02good evening and welcome to politics nation tonight's lead the widening war
00:20we start tonight entering week three of the u.s. and israel's war in iran the death toll from the
00:29conflict has grown to more than 2 000 people and the economic shock continues to rattle global energy
00:37markets as today the u.s. bombarded in major iranian oil hub in carj island claiming that nearly a
00:48hundred iranian military targets were hit iran has threatened to retaliate against three-port cities
00:55in the united arab uh emirates that it claims have been used for u.s. military operations meanwhile
01:03president trump is leaning on the uk and other countries to send warships to open the strait
01:10at humus and ease oil shipments as the price of crude surges the cost of this war climbs
01:19and a heightened foreign terror threat has americans on edge joining me now is congressman andre carson
01:28democrat of indiana congressman starting with iran you sit on the house intel committee so you've
01:36received private briefings from the administration on this conflict but you've also called for the
01:43president to make his case for this conflict directly to congress arguing that the constitutional
01:49standard to enact a war has yet to be met can you tell us what the administration has shared with
01:57you
01:57and your colleagues with regards to this combat mission progress that's been made and where all of
02:05this is supposed to be headed and are you satisfied with the explanations you're hearing congressman
02:11well thank you rev for having me i'm absolutely not satisfied though i'm very concerned about
02:18our global security as well as our national security as you know rev just last week gas prices have
02:24skyrocketed and that's a result of trump's war in iran uh that's after trump calls health care
02:32premiums to skyrocket that's after trump's economy lost over 92 000 jobs just last month i think
02:41president trump is absolutely dragging the united states into another endless foreign war without
02:47congressional authorization and that's effectively making americans suffer we've had at least 13
02:52service members who've already died unfortunately he doesn't seem to care he simply cares about his own
02:59ego and distracting us from the crises happening at home than he does keeping us safe i want to talk
03:07about the that uh but i want to get to the cost of the war because that's what a lot
03:13of our viewers are
03:14concerned about the price of crude oil has shot up uh to more than 100 a barrel of 40 jump
03:22in just two
03:24weeks and with that the price of gasoline has spiked relentlessly climbing more than 20 cents in just
03:31the last week according to triple a and then there's the operational costs which the defense department
03:38says hit more than 11 billion dollars in the first week of conflict uh the administration has claimed the
03:46economic upheaval will be worth it why don't they have to explain that to the american people
03:53through a debate in congress over a war powers resolution that's a phenomenal question rev i think
04:00it's so critically important i mean the founding fathers have outlined that congress is responsible
04:07for enacting wars with the exception of very exigent or emergency circumstances that puts the lives of
04:14americans at home and abroad in jeopardy he has not met that test and as as we've seen gas prices
04:21have
04:21skyrocketed now there is an option other presidents have used it to tap into our strategic petroleum reserve
04:28that would give us temporarily relief temporary relief but that is not a sustainable option for the next few
04:35years we have to absolutely deal uh with this issue head on and unfortunately here it's fanning the flames of
04:45xenophobia islamophobia anti-semitism anti-semitism and the sentiment that is against immigrants
04:54and black and brown people now let me go right there we we've seen a lot of ugly anti-muslim
05:01islamic phobia and anti-semitic sentiment bubble up since this war started your house colleague
05:09republican congressman and the ogles uh is facing criticism over a social post this week claiming
05:19that quote muslims don't belong in american society pluralism is a lie end of quote ogles uh has
05:28followed up with legislation that would drastically limit immigration from majority muslim countries and he's
05:37one of the several republicans that have made comments like these recently while house gop leaders have
05:44either been silent or tried to justify them as fear of a sharia law taking over the united states
05:53you as the only muslim on house intel and one of the four house muslim members that are muslims what
06:03is
06:03your response to this i think that this language is simply unacceptable we see too many members of
06:09congress who not only fail to condemn islamophobia they actively promote it to get clicks and views
06:15and possibly get re-elected you know muslims have been in this country since slavery before slavery and
06:22we'll be here making great contributions go to any major hospital you'll find a muslim physician
06:27go to any major courtroom you'll find barristers and attorneys you'll find educators and you'll find
06:33muslims in the law enforcement space helping to keep americans safe now we know the very dark history of
06:38jr hoover's failed cointel pro that targeted muslim communities particularly black american muslim
06:46communities that was very disastrous but listen muslims have a right to freely practice our faith without
06:53government interference we have the right to religious freedom and our country was founded
06:57on these principles muslims belong in american society and muslims belong in congress muslims belong
07:04in leadership and influence and republican leadership allows these comments to slide without any
07:11repercussions it's unacceptable without even any denunciations i mean we haven't heard them
07:17the speaker anyone denounced this uh let me go to this you just announced your re-election bid in
07:23indiana after a redistricting push by a president trump that would have eliminated your district if the
07:32state senate voted in favor of it instead that pressure campaign failed with 21 republicans voting against
07:40a new congressional map last year and the president appears to be targeting several of them with primary
07:47challenges that he will back meanwhile he's still pushing the save act while several red state
07:55legislatures have taken up their own version of the voter restriction bill does our democracy feel safe
08:03to you ahead of november congressman i think trump is absolutely afraid reverend we were blessed to have
08:11movements on the ground based on national action networks model uh there were folks of good
08:17will who came together uh and really talked to the people and as a result we were able to get
08:22republicans to join us so you saw democrats and republicans fighting against this redistricting push
08:28uh donald trump thought he could come to indiana come into the cafeteria he and his crew take our lunch
08:35money
08:36and walk out but they all left by god's grace with black eyes and i voted against the safe act
08:41in the house
08:42i hope to see the bill fail in the senate and i've heard from countless constituents who oppose this bill
08:48and what it would do to our elections the american people know that trump and his congressional republicans
08:55are absolutely trying to dismantle our electoral process and the safe act it impacts millions of women
09:02who change their last names after marriage many of them who are mothers mothers who are incredibly busy
09:09they don't have time to track down extra paperwork it will also prevent minorities from voting and their
09:15strategy couldn't be more clear and the american people are pushing back i hope the senate does the same
09:21all right i have to leave it there thank you congressman andre carlson of indiana uh now we go to
09:29arizona joining uh us is congressman greg stanton a democrat congressman first of all thank you for joining
09:37us tonight starting in your home state starting in your home state starting in your home state where
09:42this week the fbi obtained records from a review conducted by republican lawmakers of the 2020 election
09:51results in maricopa county that partisan review by the trump aligned cyber ninjas in 2021 uncovered no sign
10:02of voter interference on behalf of joe biden and now experts are warning that any federal investigation
10:10based on data from that audit could be badly flawed well what's the administration up to here
10:18congressman in your state
10:21reverend sharpton what a joke what the administration is doing right now they're back at it with the big
10:27lie and they expect all of their allies sadly and tragically including the department of justice
10:33to try to show evidence of the big lie we've been there done it the 2020 election has been reviewed
10:41reviewed and reviewed some more every single time it's come up that the election was run perfectly fine
10:47even the cyber ninja these wholly unqualified group of individuals trying to find evidence of
10:54wrongfulness in the election in their final analysis indicated that joe biden won by more than was
11:02actually found out on on election day um yeah this this thing is just going back to the big lie
11:08the fact
11:08that donald trump just can't acknowledge that he lost in 2020 look we're not election deniers donald trump
11:14won in 2016 he won in 2024 he lost in 2020 he just can never ever acknowledge it his ego
11:22will not
11:22allow it and this thing is a big joke but it is sad that the department of justice and the
11:27fbi are now
11:28participating in it now now this was not the first time this year the administration has gone after
11:34a state of local election results from 2020 questions remain about the fbi raid on the fulton county
11:42georgia board of elections office just in january and why national intelligence director tulsi gabbard
11:49was on site when it happened what is all of this pointing towards in your view well first off uh
11:56christy noem was in arizona shortly after she was fired from overseeing the minnesota operation the
12:04disastrous minnesota operation of ice she was here um making these false claims these election denialism
12:10claims because she was trying to get back in the good graces of trump and of course she got fired
12:15anyway tulsi gabbard the same thing uh she's on the outs with this administration she knows it so
12:20what does she do she goes to atlanta georgia she has no business being there as part of that raid
12:25the
12:25raid shouldn't have happened in the first place but she's there echoing these lies it trying to get
12:30back in the good graces of donald trump you want to get in good graces of donald trump you keep
12:35parroting the big lie it is very sad but the problem really is reverend alice you know is that this
12:40administration is looking to change the way american elections are done they want a federal
12:44takeover of american elections which is totally unconstitutional and they want to use the big
12:49lie as the basis of it so this is sad but also very dangerous at the same time now the
12:56president has
12:57increasingly signaled that he might use he might try to use ice and other federal forces to monitor the
13:06midterm election that concern has only been amplified by reports this weekend the white house may cut a
13:1360 year old civil rights program that sends third party observers to election sites to report voter
13:21discrimination under the voting rights act what's your reaction congressman i mean we're still mourning
13:27the loss of reverend jesse jackson one of the great leaders of the civil rights movement including voting
13:33rights and neutral election observers around the country is a critically important thing to just
13:40observe take notes and make sure that uh it is captured for posterity particularly if any
13:45inappropriate action has occurred which is a very sad part of american history is trying to deny legal
13:51voters legitimate voters the opportunity to participate uh in the election so it is very sad that this
13:57administration is trying to cut that very program as it relates to ice it's a clear attempt to intimidate
14:03voters particularly voters of cover color particularly our latino uh community from participating fully in
14:10this election and you know what else this president wants to get rid of voting by mail in my state
14:15of
14:15arizona eighty to ninety percent of people vote by mail more republicans and democrats vote by mail
14:21as a matter of fact we want to make voting easier for people we want to increase access to the
14:26ballot box we
14:27want to increase participation and this administration and in a desperate attempt to try to rig the election if you
14:33will try to make it go their way is trying to enact these changes nationalize these elections um we
14:39should go in the other direction we should make voting easier for our fellow americans now this week you sent
14:46a letter to dhs demanding answers about a warehouse being renovated to serve as an ice detention center
14:55in your state and the 313 million dollar contract that was awarded to a private company
15:01to operate the site despite a washington post report that says the firm has not previously been
15:09directly in directly contracted by ice to oversee any detention centers what are you and arizona democrats
15:17who co-signed these letters most concerned about we're fired up we are angry about what is happening
15:24this administration ice bought cash money a 75 million dollar warehouse where they plan to
15:30build a detention center for with 1500 beds in a facility that wasn't made for it the facility
15:37they're trying to use is a prefabricated building it's a light industrial warehouse and the company
15:43that they've given this 300 million dollar contract to has no experience in renovating buildings no
15:49experience in operating detention centers they're a security firm they were the security entity at so-called
15:56alligator alcatraz in florida i'm a former mayor i got a lot of questions for this administration
16:03about why they're coming in ignoring the local city the mayor the city council the local school
16:08district the neighborhoods trying to force this detention center in the middle of a community
16:13in maricopa county when they have they have no experience in making sure that life safety elements
16:19have been built in this facility whether they have proper ventilation system ingress egress it's a
16:24great danger but more importantly reverend al the only way they can utilize this the new detention center
16:32and 20 other ones around the country 80 000 new beds is to ramp up this mass deportation effort around
16:40the country when the american people are saying loudly we do not want mass deportation we agree in a
16:47bipartisan way for targeted enforcement but this mass deportation that we're seeing around the country
16:52the american people are saying no and they don't want to see this ramp up in my community and other
16:57places around the country before i let you go you're on house foreign affairs committee the war in the
17:04middle east seems to be expanding earlier today the u.s embassy in baghdad urged all american citizens
17:12to leave iraq immediately after the embassy was attacked overnight for the second time since the war
17:19started what's your take on the president's war in iran and where things currently stand as we enter week
17:26three reverend al and one of the most shameful things we've ever seen a president united states
17:32say this president said yesterday on fox news when asked by kilmeade when is this war over and the
17:39president of our country said when i feel it in my bones the american people are rightfully angry that
17:47this president one person has taken this country to war with obviously no plan no exit strategy
17:53obviously no authorities authorization from congress which is required on the american constitution
17:58if you're going to take this country to war you need to have this debate and discussion
18:03by the people's house uh the house of representatives and that has not occurred when i feel it in my
18:09bones
18:10give me a break what a sad statement by this president all right congressman greg stanton i thank you for
18:18being with us tonight coming up the race to replace marjorie taylor green is headed to a runoff
18:25we'll talk to the top primary voter and the top primary getter i should say next early voting begins in
18:34two weeks
18:39welcome back to politics nation the race to replace georgia congresswoman marjorie
18:46taylor green is headed to a runoff democratic candidate sean harris will take on the other top
18:53vote getter trump endorsed republican clay fuller early voting starts in two weeks retired brigadier
19:02general and cattle rancher sean harris joins me now welcome back to politics nation sean you received
19:1137 percent of the vote and while roughly two-thirds of voters went for republican candidates
19:18why do you think you were able to emerge as the leading vote getter do you feel like you have
19:23a strong
19:24shot at winning this race well reverend al first of all i want to say thanks i'm glad to be
19:29back on
19:30your show and the answer to your question straight off the top is yes and the reason why is the
19:36other
19:36night we knew everybody knew it's going to be very hard for anybody to get to that 50 plus one
19:42because
19:42i think it was like 17 18 of us in the race so it was virtually impossible but our goal
19:47was to make sure
19:49that we had the turnout to get the most votes and go into this thing with momentum with that being
19:55said
19:55right now fuller the person that i'm running against he is weak he can only stand on his own
20:02two feet because he's standing behind donald trump and right now when it was happening here in the
20:08district nobody's getting behind him he's begging other republicans getting behind him but the reality
20:14of it is other republicans are saying you know what i'm going to give this sean harris a chance because
20:19we're actually bringing in democrats independence and yes republicans and that's why we're going to win
20:24this thing on april 7th now your opponent craig fuller was the leading vote getter in the republican
20:30crowded field with a little over 31 of the vote he also has the endorsement of president trump
20:38what's your impression of fuller you know to be honest with you like i said earlier he's weak and he
20:44limped across the line got to keep in mind president trump came here to to our district rome georgia
20:50less than less than two weeks ago and at the end of the day he got lucky fuller got lucky
20:58to get out
20:58of that we were fully expecting that was going to end up going against more and more came in second
21:04place to him and i believe the way this thing is going to play out because right now what you
21:08don't
21:08know breven al is this we are at the same time in a runoff but we also in the middle
21:14of a primary so
21:15i don't have any democrats running against me but fuller got all of those people that he just beat
21:20the other night every last one and for the most part of running against him again and i fully expect
21:25those guys to continue to beat him up and when april 7th come he's going to be a highly disappointed
21:32and then i'm going to end up having to run against more in november now i want to stick with
21:38this for
21:38a minute right where you went because despite trump visiting georgia last month to throw his support
21:44behind fuller you said that the president has not made a difference in the campaign why why is that
21:51the reason why that is because guess what the one person that you hadn't heard say a word in this
21:56campaign is marjorie taylor green even though marjorie hadn't weighed into this race marjorie
22:02taylor green gets up every day and she says something about donald trump and everything that
22:07he's doing and my opponent fuller has said openly only reason he wants to go to dc is to help
22:14donald trump
22:15with that being said i'm the candidate that's saying look i'm a democrat but i'm not tied to a party
22:21because i am focused on the people here in northwest georgia period with what marjorie says every day is
22:28this is that this economy is bad we should not be in this war we can't have health care all
22:36the things
22:36that sean harris has been saying forever marjorie has went from extreme to coming back toward the
22:43middle with that being said fuller owns everything bad that's happening in this district and in this
22:49district we are farmers right now we are struggling to get our crops in because these are full cost so
22:55much and because of this war that we got overseas we can't afford fertilizer so fuller owns all of that
23:01because he has hooked this little red wagon up to donald trump 100 percent now as you pointed out
23:08marjorie taylor green may long may no longer be in office but she still looms large over this georgia
23:15election listen to her talking about the war in iran earlier this week
23:23look i think there's a big divide caitlin between the baby boomer generation and like gen x my
23:29generation and the millennials you know um our generations have been the ones that have been
23:34sent to fight these wars in the middle east and our generations have paid a huge cost and we want
23:40to
23:40see it over with but yet it's the baby boomers that are in power that are just clinging to power
23:45living out the end of their days you know it really angers me caitlin because i feel like they're
23:51ruining it for the rest of us they're leaving us with tens of trillions of national debt
23:58you are a retired brigadier general what are your thoughts on her comments and of the conflict your
24:05your thoughts on the conflict in iran i i would tell you it's not few many things that marjorie
24:11taylor green and i agree upon which is the epstein files but in this particular case here we looking at
24:16two two different lenses but i agree with her we should not be in this war right now because this
24:22is
24:22a war of choice donald trump chose to put us into this war and donald trump needs to come back
24:28to the
24:29american people and explain to us why did we get in this war is this in our national interest and
24:35then ultimately how do we define winning and then how do we get out of it and then ultimately the
24:41last
24:41thing that any senior leader will say to you what does the day after winning looking like because we
24:47have already spent over 11 billion dollars in the first week this thing is going to be very expensive
24:54but what's more expensive than all of that is our 13 soldiers airmen that have passed away and
25:01committed the ultimate sacrifice so as somebody who has fought in a war i don't talk about wars i
25:07fought in one it is not something that you should easily jump into because when you kick a hornet's nest
25:13it's not always easy to get away from it and right now iran has made it very clear they are
25:19not tied
25:20they are not ready to stop fighting us and we have already had some terrorist attacks here in the united
25:24states so he's made us less safe all right thank you for being with us again sean harris coming up
25:31the war that wasn't my political panel breaks down why president trump has done so little to sell his
25:38military operations in iran to the american people we'll be right back
25:46welcome back to politics nation on ms now i want to bring in my political panel
25:53to discuss key issues of the week joining me now is kurt bardella publisher of the watchdog report on
26:01substack he is also a former senior advisor for the house house oversight committee and jamie
26:08jackson a democratic strategist kurt the trump administration has done little to nothing to
26:15address of the american public about the war in iran according to new york times trump is the first
26:22president in the era of modern polling to take the united states to war without the support of the
26:29republic what they have done instead is transform the war in iran into a social media means where they
26:39splice real world bombing footage with clips from action movies and video games you see them here
26:48what exactly are they trying to do and is it effective in selling the war to americans who aren't
26:56already trump supporters yeah it's interesting rev because when you think about it this war began just
27:03days after the president delivered the state of the union address there was an ample opportunity and
27:08audience to actually make the case for this conflict at the state of the union and he didn't do it
27:14and the
27:15only reason why is because he either believes that one the american people wouldn't support it
27:19two that it would not be a successful effort in any way at all or three he doesn't believe that
27:24he
27:25needs to that he's above all of that that he doesn't need to explain himself he is the self-appointed
27:30czar of everything and he is doesn't have to lower himself to explaining himself to the american people
27:36either way the results speak for themselves the american people don't support this conflict and they
27:40remember uh as all of us do all of the times that donald trump and the republican party said no
27:45more
27:45middle east conflict no more endless wars no more good money after bad yet here we are spending a billion
27:51dollars a day on the conflict that no one in america can explain why we're there in the first
27:54place jamie most recent national posts show most democrats and independents opposed the war with iran
28:03democrats tried to pass legislation that would have directed the president to remove forces from iran
28:10unless congress approved the war and that failed what tools do they have left to push back
28:20well there are a number of things that democrats and congress can do to continue to push back and
28:24hold the trump administration accountable for this unauthorized war of choice number one they can
28:30continue a strong messaging campaign leader jeffries in the house has been leading the charge
28:35asking the administration to come forward and put forward real evidence of why we're in this war so
28:40far there's been no evidence of an imminent threat we've seen members of congress storm out of
28:45classified briefings out of frustration because the administration has failed to put forward a
28:50cohesive strategy as well as a cohesive message as to why they brought us into this war we also have
28:58adam smith leading the dems on the house armed services committee which i had the privilege of
29:03serving on as a legal advisor during my time of staff in congress we have greg meeks who is leading
29:10the house foreign affairs committee they've been strong advocates for holding the administration
29:14accountable also if there's a supplemental request that comes across we can really look democrats can
29:21really look to implore the administration to put forward some real evidence again of why they have
29:27us in this war we learned this week that the wars cost 11 billion dollars and while a supplemental may
29:33be on the way i encourage members of the house and senate to really ask the tough questions before
29:39putting any more money forward towards this war now jamie earlier this week south carolina congressman
29:46james claiburn announced that he was running for re-election he's 85 years old and the most senior
29:53democrat in the state of south carolina he helped joe biden secure the 2020 nomination with his endorsement
30:00president here's how he explained his decision to run for re-election if i were not up to it uh
30:09i would
30:10not uh do it because one lady said to me an elderly lady uh said to me we don't listen
30:19to them people up
30:20there and you should not you should listen to the people down here and we don't want you to win
30:31and so i'm responding to the people down here
30:37the announcement comes as democrats seem to be in the midst of a generational battle
30:43massachusetts congressman seth malton who is 47 is challenging senator ed markey who is 79 uh for
30:53for their state's uh democratic uh senate nomination he told the washington post that it's time for older
31:00members to move saying quote someone has been in congress for half a century and will be 86 years
31:08old at the net at the end of the next term in fact is too old is age the issues
31:14democrats can't shut down
31:16and how important is it in the midterms yeah this one is tricky i support generational change but i also
31:25think age can be arbitrary when it comes to politics the real question is how effective is the member are
31:32they still passing legislation are they still active and fighting for their constituents are they on the
31:37campaign trail pushing forward new talent to take the party forward so that's the real question here
31:44i don't believe in an arbitrary cutoff number again while staff in congress i have the privilege of
31:50serving for then majority leader stinny hoyer who is still a very effective member we see him on the floor
31:56debating legislation he's on the appropriations committee and so i think age can be arbitrary and
32:03you really have to take each member on a case-by-case basis to determine whether or not they're
32:07effective now kate earlier in the show we mentioned congresswoman marjorie taylor green uh blaming boomers
32:15for the uh for iran the national debt and other issues donald trump is 79 are republicans grappling
32:23with this generational issue same as democrats is this a bigger wedge issue for both parties
32:31well again i think it depends on the person office and again how their constituency actually feels about
32:36them nobody can possibly deny that james cliburn doesn't have a massive constituency in south
32:41carolina and those voters have made it very clear time again they want him to represent him and so
32:45that's probably what's going to keep happening i do think it's ironic when you look at donald trump
32:49when you consider how much republicans particularly spent the last election talking about the issue of
32:54age talking about joe biden's mental cognitive health and well-being and yet every day we are we are seeing
33:01evidence of a deteriorating president uh you know trying to play commander-in-chief and cosplay call
33:07of duty in real life but who is withering before our very eyes who does not demonstrate the ability to
33:13put together a cohesive coherent sentence that makes any sense at all so i think the more that trump
33:18deteriorates the more that republicans will be held to the standard or lack of standards at times that
33:23they put joe biden under all right kurt bardella and jamie jackson thank you both for being with us
33:30just ahead long lines at airports around the country this weekend as tsa workers go without paychecks for
33:38the first time during the dhs shut down we'll talk with a representative from the tsa union that's next
33:53welcome back to politics nation on ms now this week more than 100 000 workers for the department of
34:02homeland security have officially missed their first full paycheck including tsa agents and travelers
34:10could also be paying the price the video on your screen is houston's hobby airport earlier this week
34:19where chaos reigns supreme as travelers many of them on spring break stood in lines that spanned the
34:27airport for some over three hours because tsa was short-staffed following worker call-outs joining me now to
34:35talk about all of this is matt johnson executive director of the afge tsa council 100 matt the partial
34:46shutdown and the lack of pay is hitting tsa workers where they can least afford it reportedly more than
34:55300 workers have quit and absences have doubled during this time period union reps are reporting that
35:02workers are required to bring doctor's notes when they're calling out sick what what is the situation
35:09for tsa workers right now well first uh reverend sharp shopton thank you for having me today uh right now
35:17is the situation is dire uh yes today's the first day uh this week rather yesterday was the first full
35:25paycheck that was missed however i just want to let everyone know that uh when they did get paid two
35:31weeks
35:31ago that partial paycheck all deductions were taken out of that paycheck we have some tsa
35:38officers uh throughout the country who received zero dollars five dollars or thirteen dollars uh
35:44uh in the maximum number of amount of money that i've heard of someone getting getting is a maybe
35:51115 dollars after deductions um wow yeah so the the situation now um is yet uh i just wanted to
36:03give a little context uh people are not calling out sick or uh calling out sick the the issue is
36:10they
36:10simply have no money to purchase gas uh no money to pay their rent a mortgage child care or the
36:18basic
36:18necessities such as food pampers uh formula for the the infants it's it's a very dire situation
36:27now the trump administration is blaming democrats for the shutdown democrats say they've offered
36:34republicans an opportunity to fund tsa while ice and uh cbt cb uh the cb uh p remain shut down
36:46while
36:46reforms are being debated what's your perspective on this political fight is it productive
36:54it it is totally ineffective uh tsa officers should not be held as pawns uh in this political game uh
37:03that's one of my other one this is not a game we're we're this partial shutdown is affecting folks
37:09livelihood uh uh uh and and again you know they those tsa employees come to work to do their jobs
37:17to protect the flying public need congress to simply do their job and pass a a budget so these
37:25tsa officers can get paid all right now the tsa struggles uh as it struggles with these circumstances
37:32the war in iran is escalating in the middle east and terror fears are rising here at home is the
37:40tsa
37:40still able to keep us safe in the skies and for how long can they do this well reverend sharp
37:49then i
37:50have to say that is my greatest fear uh there's something another 9-11 could happen simply because
37:57congress cannot get their act together to pass a budget to pay employees so they have gas money uh to
38:04come
38:04to work um and as we all we are all aware you know there are these sleeper sales but i
38:10assure you they're
38:11probably awoke right now uh looking at any opportunity uh to bypass security or do whatever they need to do
38:20to cause another 9-11 and again that's my greatest fear now so yes traveling public should be very concerned
38:29now this isn't the only problem at the airports right now there are also air traffic control
38:35shortages and airlines have uh to raise prices or even suspend routes over rising fuel prices how
38:44concerning is all of this how do we solve it uh uh we need congress in this white house uh
38:55the
38:55administration to you know quit going into recess go back to washington dc uh take however long it
39:04takes i could kill us if they stay a month work a much straight too much straight or whatever get
39:09the
39:10job done what their constituents set them up there to do and that's to pass a budget to eliminate some
39:15of these problems that we're having all right mac johnson thank you for being with us uh and giving us
39:23the update up next is it up to all of us to confront and reject hatred of all kinds i'll
39:30explain after a
39:31very short break
39:44this week i was saddened and alarmed by two violent incidents a shooting at old dominion university in
39:53virginia that left the decorated army veteran dead along with the gunman and an attack on a synagogue
40:01in michigan in which the alleged perpetrator is said to have taken his own life both incidents are being
40:09investigated as acts of terrorism in this moment marked by conflict and division we cannot allow
40:17ourselves to become numb to senseless acts of violence hatred whether it's anti-semitism islamophobia
40:25racism or some other extreme ideology has no place in a free and just society is up to all of
40:33us to
40:34confront and reject it no matter the source that does it for me thanks for watching i'll see you back
40:41here tomorrow at 5 p.m eastern my lead guests will be congressman jim cliburn of south carolina
40:48who announced this week another run for congress congressman adam smith the ranking member of the
