00:07When Series 3's Mustardog's Grand Finale wrapped up, with our champions announced...
00:13The lead, champion Mustardog, Banjo and Kim.
00:20Our six participants, and their now one-year-old pups, may have thought it was the finish line,
00:27but really, it was just the warm-up.
00:33Since then, life has taken them on all kinds of wild, unexpected turns.
00:41And we can't wait to discover what they've been up to.
00:47The whole crew are part of a growing Mustardog's community.
00:52He didn't brush his teeth, so don't let him lick you.
00:54With big dreams of a bright, sustainable future for farming,
01:02our cuddly mates will be part of that story.
01:05Hunting, come and join us, buddy.
01:09Has Nathan's mohawked collie pup, Chief, grown into his signature hairdo?
01:15If I hadn't known he was going to grow a mullet, I might have changed his name.
01:19And has Jack's fizzy kelpie, pesto, finally grown up?
01:23No, she definitely hasn't, to be honest.
01:26See how Blythe is tackling life with trusty sidekick, Banksy.
01:31Banks has just come into my life at such an important time.
01:34Marlene, with Loyal Hudson, is flying the flag for women in agriculture.
01:40You do not need a certificate to be capable.
01:44Aye, aye, good hour, good hour.
01:47Renee and Collie Pockets have a passion project to unveil.
01:51Telling the story from my family's journey from conventional agriculture to regenerative agriculture.
01:56Plus, Kim, with her champion muster dog Banjo.
02:00Get up, get up, get up, gorgeous.
02:02Have some very special news to share.
02:05Look at all these puppies.
02:08These gorgeous pups are destined for greatness
02:11as they find new homes with our next generation of graziers.
02:16You're a good boy. I love you now.
02:18You're Megan. Best mates.
02:20Well, they will once this tiny troublemaker decides to behave.
02:27Come on, Jane.
02:28Let's go.
02:29He's gone.
02:31Good boy.
02:35Good boy.
02:37Good boy.
02:39Good boy.
02:40Right.
02:41We can hug you in the news.
02:42Goodbye.
02:43Aw, Hudson, you're so beautiful.
02:47Good boy.
02:49What do you reckon, Testo?
02:51Hey.
02:52All right.
02:53You're still my favourite.
02:54Oh, there you go.
02:56Oh, there you go.
03:18As I travel around Australia, I get to meet incredible people,
03:22taking captivating landscapes and spend time in nurturing communities.
03:27They seem to be loving this.
03:30Oh!
03:30Yeah!
03:33Depping over.
03:34But the best part of my job is playing with puppies.
03:38Oh my God!
03:40And catching up with the muster dogs we've fallen in love with like Banjo.
03:49Thank you, Banjo.
03:55Good boy.
03:57Good boy.
04:02Close to the border of South Australia
04:04is where you'll find Mustardog Series 3 champion...
04:08Banjo.
04:09Sit.
04:11Banjo.
04:14And his very proud handler...
04:16You're a dork.
04:17..and fourth-generation crop and lamb producer, Kim.
04:23What have we got here?
04:26A little boy.
04:27Kelpie Pup Banjo landed in Kim's life at just the right time.
04:32Oh, my God!
04:34Yeah, he's all yours.
04:36I think I was ready to get back into dog training
04:39after losing a job that I've loved.
04:41We had an immediate connection.
04:43He's never left my side, always interested in what I'm doing.
04:48Banjo's training went well, but he was easily distracted.
04:52If he can find something naughty to do, he will.
04:55From day one, when I showed Banjo's stop, he was switched on.
04:59Put him in the pen with a couple of my older dogs and...
05:03Banjo!
05:04Hear me!
05:05Then I'd basically have to drag him out
05:07because he didn't want to stop.
05:09Because he's so big and clumsy,
05:12he'll just put his paws up and want to be picked up.
05:15Like, he's just a sook.
05:16Yeah.
05:17You don't have to rush, but it is a time trial,
05:19and the fastest time will win.
05:22In a grand final that had everyone on the edge of their seats...
05:26Banjo!
05:26Banjo, come!
05:28Kim and Banjo's teamwork
05:30on a technically difficult final cast...
05:33Good job.
05:34That was well done.
05:35...sealed the deal.
05:37I'm incredibly proud
05:38to be passing the lead
05:41of champion mustard dog
05:43to Banjo and Kim.
05:46Oh, yes!
05:47Yes, Kim.
05:49Very well done.
05:52Well done.
05:53How good is that?
06:05And now, the handsome Kelpie
06:07has been mated with gorgeous mum, Chilly,
06:12producing this super cute rabble of pups.
06:17No, no, no, no, no, no.
06:20Who's that barking?
06:22Look at all these puppies!
06:25Hi, Lisa!
06:26How are you?
06:27So good to see you!
06:28You too!
06:29How many are there?
06:30Twelve.
06:32No!
06:32Yes, it's been a huge effort
06:34between mum and us,
06:36but we've gotten there.
06:38Hello, gorgeous!
06:39You don't have enough arms
06:41for all the cuddles.
06:42I know, I know.
06:44Every time someone comes,
06:45I'm like,
06:45go and have puppy cuddles!
06:49Oh, so beautiful!
06:52This one's got the colouring Banjo.
06:55Yeah, so he's going to be
06:56a little saddleback
06:57just like his dad.
07:00So Banjo's the most amazing colour.
07:03Good boy.
07:04His colour goes back
07:06to some of the first collies
07:07imported to Australia
07:09that made the Kelpie breed.
07:11It can be traced
07:12right back through his pedigree
07:15to some of the best dogs
07:16in Australia.
07:18So what does Banjo
07:19think of these new pups?
07:21Well, Banjo hasn't met them yet,
07:22but we could do that now.
07:25Banjo to me!
07:27Come on, buddy!
07:29Banjo!
07:30Hi, dude!
07:31What do you think?
07:34You've got a family of twelve, Banjo!
07:36You did this, buddy!
07:38You did this!
07:40I'd be hiding too.
07:43What did you do, mate?
07:45What did you do?
07:46He's still trying to work it out.
07:47Yeah, I know!
07:49Fatherhood aside,
07:52Banjo is still an eager worker
07:54for Kim in the Yards.
07:55Good job!
07:56Banjo, from day one,
07:58slotted into the team
07:59like he'd always been there.
08:01Good dog.
08:02Hawking.
08:02I'm down to four main dogs now
08:04and they're just like a family.
08:07Sit, dude!
08:09Banjo's just taking a little bit
08:11of a back seat for now,
08:12just taking the pressure off of him.
08:13He's had to do a lot
08:15in the first twelve months
08:16of his life,
08:17so I'm just letting him,
08:18you know, be a work dog
08:19and be part of the team
08:21and trying not to make him
08:22too special
08:24because I don't want
08:25the other dogs to get jealous.
08:26Sit down.
08:27Banjo, sit.
08:29Good boy.
08:31Nice work, Banjo!
08:34How does he feel
08:35about being champion, Muster Dog?
08:37Well, I don't think
08:39Banjo really knows
08:40that he's a champion.
08:43Banjo, you get up.
08:44Banjo, get up, get up, get up.
08:46Boy, back.
08:47Sit down now.
08:48We're having a couple
08:49of issues at the moment.
08:52Round.
08:52Because he is so smart,
08:54he can anticipate
08:55what I want
08:57and he's one step ahead of me,
08:59so we're just trying
09:00to bring that back a bit
09:02and get things done
09:03when I ask for them,
09:04not when he thinks
09:05they need to be done.
09:10I might just hand over
09:12to the Muster Dog champion, Kim.
09:16Good afternoon, everyone
09:17and welcome
09:19to the Kniper Show.
09:20I'm Kim
09:21and this is Banjo.
09:23He is the champion
09:25for season three
09:26of Muster Dogs.
09:27How has being part
09:29of the champion
09:30Muster Dog duo
09:31impacted your life?
09:32It's been amazing
09:33meeting lots of new people
09:35and going out
09:36and Banjo experiencing
09:38lots of new festivals.
09:41And by all accounts,
09:43Banjo is still a superstar.
09:48But at home,
09:50he's just another dog,
09:52part of the team
09:52and I'm still a mum
09:55and a wife
09:55and a farmer.
10:01So...
10:03Good boy.
10:04I think that's one
10:05of the key things
10:06for people,
10:07especially in the city,
10:08watching this show
10:09to understand
10:11and see
10:11this beautiful connection
10:13that you all had
10:13with your animals.
10:15Absolutely.
10:16They're not just
10:18for work.
10:20They are, you know,
10:21a piece of us
10:22and our best mates
10:23and we could not
10:25imagine life
10:26without Banjo now.
10:28He just knows
10:29when I'm having a bad day
10:30and he's always there.
10:34He's...
10:34He's got a big piece
10:36of my heart.
10:37Maddie, can you hear?
10:39Banjo.
10:39He beats Banjo.
10:41Banjo.
10:43Okay, puppies,
10:44you win.
10:45I'm putting up
10:46the white flag.
10:48Oh, no!
10:49Oh, no!
10:50Oh, no!
10:51Oh, no!
10:53Banjo!
10:55Woo!
10:55Oh!
10:56Now you've got
10:57a bigger one
10:58to contend with.
11:03Come on, guys.
11:05Come on, team.
11:06Let's go.
11:07Time to go home.
11:12You're so cute.
11:15It's just been a big day.
11:18With so many puppies
11:20to love,
11:21we can see
11:22why Kim's heart
11:23is so full.
11:26And she's not the only one
11:28with a delightfully filled cup
11:30as we head to Queensland
11:31to meet our rhinestone cowgirl.
11:36Get out!
11:38Get out!
11:40This sprawling 20,000-acre
11:42regenerative grazing property...
11:45Pocket, pocket, stop!
11:45...is where you'll find
11:47a gorgeous black-and-white
11:48collie pup
11:49called Pockets.
11:52Get your girls.
11:54Go on.
11:55Her handler
11:56is colourful station manager...
11:58Good girls.
11:59Good kids.
12:01Good girls.
12:02...and collie convert
12:03Renee.
12:06Good girl.
12:07We'll go master in a day.
12:15Oh, that's very nice.
12:19Pockets!
12:19Puppie!
12:20Wicca, wicca!
12:21Renee named her pup
12:22after the white patches
12:23on her coat.
12:24Look at you.
12:25You've got pockets.
12:27I think you should be a Pockets.
12:30Pockets.
12:31She's absolutely gorgeous.
12:33A little pocket rocket.
12:36Pocket full of beans.
12:37Pocket full of sunshine.
12:38Just a full-on little dog,
12:40but just gorgeous.
12:41Pockets, pocket, pocket.
12:42You ask her to jump
12:43and she says,
12:44how high?
12:45And I'm doing it now,
12:46so catch me.
12:47Pockets, pop.
12:48Quick girl.
12:50Oh, you're a banter.
12:52You're a bancy dog.
12:54I've had a few complaints
12:55with my siblings.
12:57Yep.
12:57I've taught her to jump
12:58into my arms
12:59and that has kind of
13:01accidentally translated
13:02into her just
13:03launching her
13:04herself without cue
13:05at my family
13:07and at me.
13:10After a year
13:11of getting to know
13:12each other's quirks,
13:14Pocket, Pock.
13:15No one was more
13:16gobsmacked than Renee.
13:18Go, go, go, go.
13:19What you did?
13:19Back.
13:20When she and Pockets
13:21smashed it
13:22at the grand final.
13:23Good old, good old.
13:25Coming in just
13:26four seconds
13:27off the cattle time
13:28trial leaders.
13:29Which way?
13:30It's Queensland?
13:30Grabbing second place
13:32behind Marlene
13:33and Hudson
13:34in the barrel run.
13:37Good girl, good girl.
13:39And topping it off
13:40with a stylish
13:41100 metre cast
13:43to finish.
13:44Good sheep.
13:45Good dog.
13:46With the final
13:47assessment challenges,
13:48I was a little bit
13:49surprised.
13:50Just the way that
13:51it all came together
13:53quite nicely.
13:54I did the best
13:55that I could
13:57and I knew
13:58that if I was
14:00there for Pockets,
14:01I knew that
14:01she'd be there
14:02for me.
14:02And yeah,
14:04she's been amazing.
14:19Her heart-on-sleeve
14:21style made
14:22Renee a
14:23mustard dog's
14:24fan favourite.
14:25Pocket,
14:26pocket,
14:26stop.
14:27So,
14:28what's been
14:28happening
14:29since her
14:29return to
14:30the family
14:31farm?
14:33This country
14:34in the central
14:35Queensland highlands
14:36has a powerful
14:37vibration
14:38and a rhythm
14:39that has Renee
14:40and her precious
14:41Pockets
14:42living their
14:43best life.
14:46How's Pockets
14:47going?
14:47She's going
14:47really well.
14:48She's hit her
14:49strides and
14:49has definitely
14:50settled in with
14:51the pack.
14:51Ah, so nice
14:52down here.
14:53She's full-on
14:54as ever.
14:55Still full of
14:56beans.
14:56Still pocket
14:57full of sunshine.
14:58Little pocket
14:58rocket.
15:03In the team,
15:04I wouldn't say
15:05that she's
15:05Queen Bee
15:06or anything,
15:07but maybe a bit
15:08of a politician.
15:09She likes to
15:10keep the peace,
15:12I'd say.
15:12She doesn't
15:12really start
15:13or finish
15:13any fights,
15:14but no,
15:15she's quite a
15:16good little
15:16team member.
15:18What do you
15:18reckon?
15:22Whoa,
15:23Wayne.
15:25Pocket,
15:26pocket,
15:27stop.
15:27She's still a
15:28puppy,
15:28so she does
15:29some pretty
15:29silly things
15:30here and
15:30there and
15:31she does
15:31have a
15:32tendency
15:32to get
15:32worked up,
15:33but no,
15:34she's quite
15:34impressive.
15:36Just like
15:36any other
15:37dog,
15:37really,
15:37she loves
15:38her sticks
15:38and she
15:38loves play
15:39time and
15:40going for
15:40swims and
15:41she's still
15:42very much
15:42a dog.
15:44Sometimes she
15:44gets favourite
15:45treatment.
15:46She does a
15:47little bit.
15:48It's very
15:49easy to give
15:50her some
15:51privileges that
15:52some of my
15:53other working
15:53dogs might not
15:54get.
15:55You know
15:55what people
15:55ask all the
15:56time?
15:56Do they
15:57ever get
15:58into the
15:58house?
15:58To the
16:00dismay of
16:00my parents,
16:01yes,
16:01sometimes she
16:02has made
16:02it into
16:03the house.
16:04Hey
16:05Pockets.
16:06Hey.
16:07Oh,
16:08you are
16:08gorgeous.
16:10Hey,
16:10does Pockets
16:10watch
16:11mustard
16:11dogs?
16:12She has,
16:13she's seen
16:13it.
16:14Pockets,
16:14did you like
16:15it?
16:15Pockets,
16:16big.
16:17Oh,
16:18that's a
16:18yes.
16:18I think
16:19so.
16:25In a
16:26whole new
16:27chapter,
16:28Renee's
16:28running her
16:29own block
16:29on the
16:30family farm
16:31and her
16:32partner,
16:32Dean,
16:33has left
16:34his job
16:34as a
16:34lawyer to
16:35work alongside
16:36her.
16:36Hey,
16:37how you
16:37doing?
16:38Hi,
16:39Dean.
16:39I've heard
16:40a lot about
16:41you.
16:41Hopefully
16:42only good
16:42things.
16:43Lots
16:43of good
16:44things.
16:44So,
16:45what's it
16:45like working
16:45with Renee
16:46as your
16:47boss?
16:47I like
16:48all the
16:48dogs,
16:48my best
16:49mate.
16:49Renee's
16:49also my
16:49best mate
16:50up the
16:50paddock.
16:52That's
16:53very sweet.
16:54I wasn't
16:55expecting that
16:55answer.
16:56That's
16:56nice.
17:03Then,
17:03could you
17:04loop around
17:04here and
17:06come here
17:07back?
17:08So,
17:09Renee,
17:09how does
17:10Dean shape
17:10up as a
17:11worker?
17:11I don't
17:12know what
17:12he was
17:12like as
17:13a lawyer,
17:13but he's
17:14a pretty
17:14good cowboy,
17:15so I'm
17:17not
17:17complaining
17:17at all.
17:19Has
17:19it an
17:20amazing
17:20way with
17:21the cattle
17:21that I'm
17:22actually quite
17:23jealous of
17:23sometimes.
17:24I think
17:24he can
17:24lead stock
17:25better than
17:25me.
17:26good dog,
17:27lovely
17:28dog.
17:28Come on,
17:29Wiener.
17:30One of my
17:30favorite things
17:30at the moment
17:31is watching
17:31Dean have
17:32a win
17:32with his
17:32dogs.
17:33Good
17:33dog,
17:34lovely
17:34dog.
17:34He gets
17:35all beamy
17:35and smiley
17:36and it's
17:37very,
17:37very,
17:38very sweet.
17:39He's got
17:39good teachers.
17:41Full of
17:41compliments.
17:42Need to be
17:43on camera
17:43more often.
17:47Oh,
17:47this is so
17:47gorgeous.
17:49Pockets loves
17:50you.
17:51You'll get
17:52her love
17:52if you keep
17:53laughing like
17:53that.
17:54She's a bit
17:54of a comedian
17:55and I would
17:56say a class
17:57clown as
17:57well.
17:58She absolutely
17:59loves the
18:00attention that
18:00is brought
18:02by a good
18:02laugh.
18:03Really?
18:04Well,
18:05have you got a
18:05joke you can
18:06try us on?
18:07Maybe.
18:08Maybe this
18:08one might
18:08work.
18:09The other
18:10day I told
18:10Dean to
18:11embrace his
18:12mistakes
18:13and he
18:14gave me
18:14a hug.
18:15Oh,
18:18he is
18:19not
18:19right.
18:23Apart
18:26from her
18:27laughter-loving
18:27collie,
18:29Renee's time
18:29on muster
18:30dogs has
18:30brought plenty
18:31of other
18:32good things
18:32too.
18:33So how
18:34did muster
18:35dogs impact
18:36your life?
18:37In many
18:38ways.
18:38It's nicer
18:39talking to
18:40people that
18:40I went to
18:41high school
18:41with now.
18:43Just the
18:44response and
18:45I guess the
18:45connection that
18:46people feel
18:47when they
18:47watch muster
18:48dogs is
18:48pretty amazing
18:50really.
18:50It has
18:51actually opened
18:51up my eyes
18:52and that they
18:53are as
18:53passionate about
18:54the industry
18:55as I am
18:55and yeah.
18:58How have
18:58you gone with
18:59the response
19:00from the
19:01fans?
19:02It was
19:02very positive.
19:04Actually a
19:05lot of rural
19:06women would
19:07say I'm
19:08proud of you
19:09which is
19:09pretty crazy
19:10to me.
19:11Like yeah.
19:12I've got
19:12something nice
19:13to show
19:13you from
19:14one of
19:15your fans
19:15in New
19:16South Wales.
19:17Kate was
19:17so inspired
19:19that she
19:20made a
19:22doll
19:23of you.
19:26What do
19:27you think?
19:28That's very
19:28sweet.
19:30Has she
19:30got it right?
19:31She's got it
19:32spot on.
19:33It was
19:33brilliant.
19:34The shirt,
19:35the boots,
19:36the jeans,
19:37high waisted
19:37jeans too.
19:38That's
19:39gorgeous.
19:40Thank you
19:41so much.
19:46Getting me
19:47emotional.
19:50What do you
19:51think Pocket's
19:52going to make
19:52of it?
19:53Hopefully she
19:54won't put a
19:55hole in it.
19:57Deeply
19:57passionate about
19:58educating others
19:59on the benefits
20:00of regenerative
20:01agriculture,
20:03Renee's social
20:04media following
20:05is growing.
20:07Australia has
20:07a water
20:08problem and
20:08it's not the
20:09one you think
20:09I'm talking
20:10about.
20:10It is time
20:11for all of
20:12us to kind
20:13of start
20:14thinking about
20:15getting the
20:15stuff that
20:16comes from
20:16the sky,
20:17putting it
20:18into the
20:18ground and
20:19keeping it
20:19there.
20:20And she's
20:21even having
20:21a go at
20:22the old
20:22school way
20:23of telling
20:23a tale.
20:24Leaving our
20:24soils bare.
20:26I am.
20:27I've been
20:27given the
20:27opportunity
20:28through
20:29Mustardogs
20:29and we've
20:30been writing
20:31a book at
20:32the moment.
20:32Yeah.
20:33It's, I
20:34guess,
20:35telling my
20:35family's
20:35story and
20:36my and
20:37the working
20:37dog's
20:38story on
20:39our
20:39properties.
20:40Life's
20:40washed
20:41enough.
20:43It's to
20:43show the
20:44family's
20:44journey from
20:45conventional
20:46agriculture to
20:47regenerative
20:47agriculture and
20:48how that's
20:49helped us
20:49really.
20:50Need more
20:51cows.
20:52Not enough
20:52poo for
20:53them.
20:54I've been
20:54able to,
20:55you know,
20:55put in a
20:56lot of
20:57little drawings
20:58and diagrams
20:59and things
20:59that helped
21:00me when I
21:01started off.
21:02It actually
21:02promotes new
21:03growth.
21:04And it's
21:05as long as
21:05you rest it
21:06according to
21:07season.
21:07Like that.
21:08So I guess
21:09if I can
21:09give that
21:10back to
21:11the world,
21:12the
21:12Mustardogs
21:13opportunity,
21:14I guess
21:15paying it
21:15forward then.
21:16Yeah.
21:17Oh!
21:18Bass, bass.
21:19Attending events
21:20like the
21:21Agro Field
21:22Day.
21:22Happy!
21:23Yay!
21:24Have also
21:24been a fun
21:25opportunity for
21:26Renee to
21:26showcase her
21:27artwork.
21:28Hey,
21:29pop up.
21:29You ready?
21:30All dogs up.
21:31Anne for
21:32Pockets and
21:33Kelpie
21:33team-mate
21:34Bassel.
21:35Are you ready
21:36to talk to
21:36some people?
21:37Have big
21:37yarns?
21:38Maybe sell
21:38a book?
21:38Oh,
21:39good job.
21:40Charmed
21:40visitors to
21:41their tent.
21:42How you
21:42going,
21:42Renee?
21:43Madison.
21:44Lovely to meet
21:44you.
21:45This here is
21:45Pockets.
21:46Good girl,
21:46Pockets.
21:47She loved it,
21:47I think.
21:48She loved
21:48meeting people
21:49and she's been
21:50working on her
21:51greeting.
21:52She was signing
21:53people's pieces of
21:54paper and she's
21:55been lapping it
21:56up, I suppose.
21:57Pockets.
21:58Pockets.
21:59Pockets.
21:59Good girl.
22:00She signed it
22:01for you.
22:02Pockets.
22:03Pockets.
22:04Good girl,
22:05Pockets.
22:06Big day,
22:06hey?
22:07Big day having
22:08big chats,
22:09signing autographs.
22:11Pockets.
22:11Pockets.
22:12Pockets.
22:13Pockets.
22:13Pockets.
22:13I'm pretty lucky
22:14to have yous really.
22:17The combined
22:18joy and mischief
22:19of Renee and
22:20Pockets is
22:21infectious and
22:22truly makes you
22:23believe that
22:23anything is
22:24possible if you
22:25have the courage
22:26to give it a go.
22:30Do you want to
22:31play a stick?
22:32Oh, does he
22:33ever.
22:34Ready?
22:34Speak, speak.
22:35Speak, speak, speak.
22:37So you're going
22:37to be a grazier,
22:39an author,
22:40an influencer.
22:42What else is
22:43there on your
22:44bucket list of
22:45things to do?
22:47I would actually
22:48like to go travel
22:49around and, again,
22:51keep learning more
22:53skills, eh?
22:53Come on, Pockets.
22:56There's been a lot
22:57on offer here,
22:59but my little brother
23:00has just finished up
23:02his diesel apprenticeship,
23:03so I might pass the
23:05reins to him for a bit
23:06and hopefully go
23:07travelling next year
23:08with my partner,
23:08so, yeah.
23:10Big trailer full of dogs
23:12and going around
23:13and seeing if there
23:15is work available.
23:16I'll sit back
23:17in the shade
23:17and tuck my boots up.
23:22So, Renee and Pockets
23:24could pop up
23:25anywhere in Australia.
23:26Yeah, maybe.
23:27We could.
23:28Maybe.
23:29Keep your eyes open.
23:31I got a good job.
23:33You did a good job,
23:34I got a good job.
23:36Good job, good job.
23:40Just like Pockets,
23:42I reckon this pup
23:43is going to grow up
23:44to love herding cows,
23:46a bit like a red and tan
23:48fella in Western Australia.
23:53What a lovely little boy.
23:56An hour and a half
23:57south of Perth
23:58is a 400-acre cattle
24:00and chicken operation.
24:02Dogs to me.
24:03Hear, hear.
24:04And just wait.
24:05Banksy, wait.
24:06Home to an easily
24:07sidetracked Kelpie pup
24:10named Banksy.
24:12Here, here, here.
24:12And sit there.
24:14The property is run
24:14by passionate animal lover
24:16and grazier...
24:17Good dog.
24:18...Blythe.
24:19I think you've been busy.
24:28Quickly grabbing
24:29a spot in her heart,
24:31Kelpie pup Banksy
24:32was easily distracted.
24:35I've been considering
24:36whether he is going
24:37to be a challenging dog.
24:38He's right on the mic now.
24:39He's chewing the mic.
24:43I love the fact
24:44he's a Kelpie.
24:45I've never had
24:46a red Kelpie before.
24:47He's chilled out.
24:48He's attentive.
24:49He is one cool dude.
24:52He's absolutely great.
24:54Proper little boy pup.
24:56He's quite masculine.
24:57He doesn't need to learn
24:58to say I adore you
24:59without using his teeth.
25:02Banksy, he's a bit mischievous.
25:05He has been a little bit
25:05of a humper.
25:06A few of the other dogs
25:08have copped his affection.
25:09Good.
25:10You know, he's just so enthusiastic
25:11about everything he does.
25:13Great.
25:13What a great little dog.
25:15Unfortunately,
25:16Banksy suffered a leg injury
25:18just weeks out
25:19from the grand final.
25:20You can't stay here.
25:23Banks sliced his back leg open
25:26and so we stitched him up
25:28and it's healed up fine.
25:29But it was pretty clear then
25:30that he wasn't going
25:31to be getting much work
25:33before the finale.
25:34What's happening here, mate?
25:37Oh, Banksy.
25:41With pride and determination,
25:44Blythe faced the challenges
25:45with her best pal, Banksy.
25:47Well, fancy seeing you lot here.
25:49Hey, that's a funny looking dog.
25:52Talk to him and squeeze
25:54your cattle a bit.
25:55Bring him up.
25:55After a shaky start
25:57in the first two tasks.
25:58Thanks, Mum.
26:00Thanks, Dad.
26:01Sit there.
26:02Sit there.
26:02Oh.
26:03Over.
26:04She and Banksy dug deep
26:06and nailed a cracking performance
26:09in the 100-metre muster.
26:12But coming into
26:13that last assessment,
26:15you know,
26:15I think we were a red-hot go.
26:17You know,
26:17he has been powering along.
26:19I've been so impressed with him.
26:21We're done.
26:22Well done.
26:23Go, Banksy.
26:24Go, boys.
26:25I'm proud of myself
26:26being able to sort of
26:28stand up here
26:29knowing that we wouldn't
26:29perform at our best
26:30but still finished
26:32as a team
26:33with the sheep work
26:34and I'm so grateful
26:35for this little dog
26:37and this whole experience.
26:45Setting up.
26:47What few could have guessed
26:48was the upheaval
26:50Blythe was heading home to
26:51in her private life.
26:53The end of 2024
26:55and 2025
26:57have been a pretty wild ride
26:59for me, actually.
26:59I went through
27:01a quite dramatic
27:03and traumatic separation
27:05and the effects of that
27:07have changed my life.
27:13And Banksy has been there
27:15by my side the whole time
27:16and I really couldn't have asked.
27:19God, already.
27:22Couldn't have asked
27:23to have a better little mate
27:24by my side.
27:29As part of that
27:30sort of ending
27:31of that relationship
27:32was the ending
27:33of our farming partnership.
27:35It was a really difficult decision
27:37to leave the farm
27:38and probably, you know,
27:39the hardest I've had to make.
27:42After all the challenges,
27:44Blythe knew
27:45she couldn't remain at home.
27:47Me?
27:48To be in the position
27:50I was in
27:51is very difficult.
27:53There were elements
27:53to the end
27:54of the relationship
27:55that were really hard
27:57to deal with.
27:58It's, you know,
27:59not something
28:00that will define me
28:01but it's something
28:02which I want
28:04people to be able
28:05to talk about.
28:07And I think
28:09secrets thrive
28:10in dark,
28:12damp conditions
28:12and sunlight
28:14and fresh air
28:15are the best
28:16disinfectants
28:16available to us.
28:21And the sun
28:22doesn't shine brighter
28:24than in the Pilbara,
28:26Western Australia.
28:29True to her
28:30glass half full nature,
28:32Blythe's hit the road
28:33as a contract musterer.
28:37She's got a rolling team
28:38of ten dogs
28:40with Banksy
28:41the undeniable
28:42VIP.
28:44Hey, Banks,
28:44what do you reckon
28:45about this adventure?
28:46Banks has just
28:47come into my life
28:48at such an important time.
28:50And then we're going
28:50to go to Broome,
28:52Banksy.
28:53Ka-du-du-du-du-du.
28:57He became my
28:58chief of security,
29:00chief of cuddles.
29:01The guy would lick me
29:02in the face in the morning
29:03and kind of say,
29:04come on,
29:04let's go have some fun.
29:06His work has come
29:07along beautifully.
29:12And he has become
29:13a really handy dog
29:15on the farm.
29:16He's my go-to fella
29:17for most of my work.
29:18Banksy, sit.
29:19Like us all,
29:20he's got some areas
29:20of development
29:22to work on.
29:23But he's the dog
29:24I choose to go with me
29:25anywhere I go,
29:26both in life
29:28and in work.
29:29He's a really handy fella
29:30with a heart of gold.
29:35Banksy has really
29:37adapted well
29:38to muster dog stardom.
29:39I'm rolling anyway.
29:40But he didn't love
29:41the cameras
29:41by the end
29:43of the shooting.
29:43Thanks, Wade.
29:44Come here, buddy.
29:45Thanks, Wade.
29:45You know,
29:46sometimes he might
29:46even have a bit
29:47of a growl
29:47at a camera.
29:48Bank, come here, buddy.
29:52He wouldn't go
29:53past in front of me.
29:54He wouldn't cross me.
29:55Yeah, traumatised.
29:56But when the cameraman
29:57comes past,
29:58he's like,
29:59hey, sorry, dude,
30:00it was just that big
30:00scary thing you were carrying.
30:02If I ignore it,
30:03it'll go away.
30:03If I ignore it,
30:04it'll go away.
30:04Why is he still
30:05doing that?
30:06He's like,
30:07if you notice,
30:07he won't really look
30:08a camera in the eye.
30:17Difficult roads
30:18often lead
30:19to beautiful destinations.
30:21Hello, darling.
30:21And I'm now on the road
30:23with my team of dogs,
30:24working with incredible people,
30:27educating livestock,
30:29catching up with lots
30:30of mustard dogs,
30:31people,
30:32and travelling around
30:33Australia,
30:34seeing what my next
30:35adventure is.
30:36I can now really look
30:38at a blank slate
30:38and reinvent my life
30:40in a way which
30:41I hadn't really thought
30:42would be possible.
30:44so that is just
30:45such a gift.
30:50Bring it on.
30:51Yeah,
30:51I'm feeling it.
30:55Thanks.
30:56Get him, man.
31:07When they start off
31:09as soft and snuggly
31:10as this,
31:11it's no surprise
31:12that Banksy
31:13has become
31:14such an integral part
31:16of Blythe's life.
31:17It's been much
31:18the same
31:19for our youngest
31:19participant
31:20to take on
31:21the mustard dogs challenge,
31:22Nathan from Queensland.
31:31On a 750 acre
31:33family run
31:33grazing property
31:34just outside
31:35Kingaroy in Queensland,
31:38a certain
31:39affable collie
31:41called Chief
31:44is full of life.
31:46You like this,
31:47don't you, Chief?
31:48Do you want to
31:48pat a Chief?
31:50He's got a bit
31:50of a mullet
31:51like you, mate.
31:52So did you see
31:53season three?
31:54Mustard dogs?
31:55Yeah.
31:55It's like he knows
31:56he's famous.
31:58And the pup
31:59is more than happy
32:00to share the limelight
32:01with his handler,
32:02Nathan.
32:05Hey, Chief,
32:05you just love this,
32:06don't you?
32:07You love the attention.
32:09Every person he sees,
32:10he just walks
32:11straight over to
32:12and sits down
32:13and puts a paw up
32:14as if,
32:14you should know me
32:15and you'll want
32:16to pat me.
32:20Oi.
32:20Look at you.
32:22How handsome are you?
32:23It was obvious
32:24from the start.
32:25Oh.
32:26The relationship
32:27between the handsome
32:29pup and high school
32:30student Nathan
32:31was going to be
32:32a special one.
32:33I think he is
32:34a very happy-go-lucky
32:35dog.
32:36Always wants to
32:37be with you
32:37or right on top
32:38of you.
32:38Hey, buddy.
32:39Hey.
32:40He's a very friendly
32:41dog and he just
32:42likes people.
32:46Can you brush it
32:47this morning?
32:48I bet you didn't.
32:50You're used to it
32:51more than I am.
32:52He's started
32:52growing this mullet.
32:54It's all real short
32:55from halfway
32:56down his back.
32:57The top is just
32:58all long
32:59and overhangs
33:00the short stuff.
33:01He looks like
33:01a complete goofball.
33:02Come on.
33:03Off you go.
33:04Off you go.
33:06Chief, come.
33:07By the time the
33:07grand final rolled
33:08around,
33:10Chief's confidence
33:11had grown so much,
33:13the pair posted
33:14the fastest time
33:16on the cattle time
33:17trial.
33:18Well done.
33:20Good boy, Chief.
33:21Consistent in the
33:22other tasks.
33:23Nice work, Nathan.
33:24That's a good spot.
33:26Meant they came
33:27so close to
33:28taking the crown,
33:30earning praise
33:31from the experts
33:32watching on.
33:33Sluggie's had a
33:34nice run.
33:35He's had a ripper run.
33:36Sit.
33:37Sit down.
33:40Good boy.
33:42Nathan and Chief
33:43have done really
33:43well and the
33:44improvement Nathan
33:45made with that dog
33:46was just spectacular.
33:48He put a lot of
33:50effort in that
33:50young fella.
33:51Lovely dog.
33:52Good boy, Chief.
33:53Good boy.
33:53Nice run, mate.
33:54Future plans with
33:55Chief, I'd probably
33:57swap him.
33:58No, no, I couldn't
33:59swap him.
34:00No, definitely not.
34:01He's a keeper.
34:03Definitely, he's
34:04a ripper little dog.
34:08Good dogs.
34:10Good dogs.
34:11One year later,
34:13Nathan and Chief
34:13continue to grow
34:15together, working
34:16stock and refining
34:17their skills.
34:19Here to me.
34:21Good puppies.
34:22Good puppies.
34:23Good boy, Chief.
34:24He's loving the
34:25sunshine.
34:25Yes, it's about time
34:26we've had a nice
34:27sunny day.
34:28Yeah.
34:29And how are you
34:29going, Chief?
34:30You've still got
34:31your crazy haircut.
34:32He does.
34:33He does.
34:34If I hadn't known
34:34he was going to grow
34:35Mullet, I might have
34:36changed his name.
34:38Well, I think Chief
34:39suits him as a name.
34:41It does.
34:41He's going into it.
34:42That's for sure.
34:44Hey, Chief, what do you
34:45reckon about that?
34:48Look at this.
34:50Look, there's so much.
34:52That might be because
34:53of the bath.
34:54He was actually a black
34:56and brown dog the other
34:56day.
35:00So how's he progressed
35:01as a working dog?
35:02He's definitely a little
35:03later maturing.
35:04Sit down.
35:05But he's become a better
35:07dog since the finale.
35:09So give me a sense of
35:10Chief's style out there.
35:12So Chief, when he works,
35:13he's not a very forceful
35:15dog.
35:15He fits in very well
35:16to the team though.
35:18He is good up in the
35:19lead but if something
35:20gets a bit confrontational
35:21he's still a bit quick
35:23to slide away.
35:24So I just want to
35:25improve his confidence
35:26and get him to hold
35:27just that bit longer.
35:28Beecher, sit down.
35:30Come on.
35:31Sit down.
35:34What's Chief's
35:34personality like?
35:36Much the same as
35:38before the finale.
35:39He's a very happy dog.
35:40Chief, shake hands.
35:42Whoa!
35:43Two hands.
35:44I think he wants
35:45a cuddle, Lisa.
35:47This is hilarious.
35:47He's got the paw
35:48on the shoulder too.
35:54Chief!
35:55Oh!
35:55What's Chief looking at?
35:57Probably the cattle
35:58that are behind us there.
35:59Ah.
36:00Always working, huh?
36:01Always.
36:02Always on the job.
36:03Hey, big fella.
36:08How has being on the
36:09show changed life for you?
36:11It's definitely been
36:13flat out.
36:15Here in Queensland,
36:17getting to 20 degrees
36:18today.
36:19Could you be more excited?
36:20No, not really.
36:2120 degrees is a bit better
36:22than what it has been.
36:25So...
36:26Since I've been on the show,
36:27it's definitely busier.
36:29So this here,
36:30this Australian Border Collie
36:31is Mustardog's Chief,
36:33the Bawler Chief.
36:35Been doing a bit of demo work
36:37and some promotional stuff.
36:39He didn't brush his teeth,
36:41so don't let him lick you.
36:42And then now,
36:43I've finished school,
36:44so I'm working full-time, so...
36:46Where are your manners?
36:47Come on, Chiefie.
36:48Chief, Chief,
36:49don't bite the mic.
36:50I've got a job in town
36:52at a local diesel mechanic shop,
36:54so it's been good in there,
36:57learning plenty,
36:57trying to, so...
37:03Come here, mate.
37:04Good fella.
37:06And Chief,
37:07we're into the Atherton show, mate.
37:10One of Nathan's first invites
37:12saw him build as the backup act
37:15at the Atherton show.
37:17Good dog.
37:18Good dog.
37:18So, here in the line-up today,
37:21we have the beautiful collie there,
37:22Mustardog's Chief,
37:23as you probably are all aware.
37:26So, it's all about your energy
37:28when you're training dogs,
37:29moving cattle.
37:30Dogs pick up on your energy
37:32and cattle pick up on the dog's energy.
37:36Originally,
37:37the demonstration was going to be shared
37:39with another former Mustardog star.
37:41Good dog.
37:42But tragedy intervened.
37:45So,
37:46here's an all-promised Frank Finger
37:47here today.
37:49Unfortunately,
37:50Frank could not be here today.
37:53And our thoughts go out to him
37:56in this time.
37:58So,
37:59Atherton turned out
38:00to be a bit more challenging
38:02than you were expecting, hey?
38:04So,
38:04I was supposed to be heading up there
38:06with Frank,
38:07but unfortunately,
38:09I just,
38:12Frank's wife passed,
38:13and shortly after Annie,
38:15so Frank was not feeling up to coming,
38:18which is completely understandable.
38:25Frank Finger would have called that space there
38:27between the dog sitting and the cattle,
38:29the relief corridor.
38:31You'll notice all the while
38:32I'm giving them plenty of praise.
38:33Good dog.
38:34Frank Finger says,
38:35lovely dog.
38:37I just did the best I can.
38:39And then,
38:40I got a call from Frank,
38:42and Frank said that
38:43he'd be very proud
38:44of no matter what I did.
38:46So,
38:47to be stepping in for Frank,
38:49and carrying on
38:50what he wanted to do,
38:52it's been a very big thing.
38:54Yeah.
39:00Frank tragically lost his wife
39:02of 47 years,
39:04Kathy.
39:05And then a week later,
39:07his champion muster dog,
39:09Annie,
39:09passed away.
39:12Lovely dog.
39:14You're a lovely dog.
39:15Mustardogs could not have asked
39:17for a better ambassador
39:18than Series 1 winner
39:20and lifelong grazier,
39:22Frank Finger.
39:23Oh, that's...
39:24A man beloved by his community,
39:26his family,
39:27and his industry.
39:29I'm very privileged to have Annie.
39:32Lovely dog.
39:33That's a lovely dog.
39:35She's the princess, yeah.
39:37That's a lovely dog.
39:41So, yeah.
39:42Oh, there's a very special bond
39:44with Annie and I.
39:45Yes, yes.
39:55From meeting Frank
39:57to joining the mustardogs alumni,
40:01Nathan has zero regrets
40:02about training Chief
40:04in his final school year.
40:06Oh, you suck.
40:08How am I going to do
40:09my homework like that?
40:12We were a little worried
40:13about the fact
40:14you were doing grade 12
40:15when you were also preparing
40:17for the finale.
40:18The pressure.
40:21Hey, mate.
40:21What does DNA stand for?
40:23The timing between my exams
40:26and the finale was good.
40:27It meant I could work on Chief
40:28up to the finale
40:30and then still have plenty of time
40:31to prepare for my exams.
40:33Sit.
40:33Sit.
40:34There was some homework
40:35that didn't get done
40:36but all the important stuff
40:38was done.
40:39I passed everything
40:40so they're happy.
40:42Oh.
40:45Oh, I'm a big baby.
40:48So did Chief make an appearance
40:49at school at all?
40:50He did, actually.
40:52He arrived on the back
40:53of our red ute for formal.
40:55So me and my partner,
40:57we decided we were going
40:58to match colours
40:59for our suit and dress
41:00and we tied a nice orange
41:02in with it to match Chief.
41:05Did everyone know, though,
41:06that Chief was going
41:08to be a TV star
41:08at that point?
41:09No, it was only
41:11between me and my partner.
41:13The newspapers actually said,
41:14and the farm dog
41:15turned up on the ute.
41:18We all had our little joke
41:20that he's not just a farm dog.
41:24What's next for Chief?
41:26I'll sell him.
41:27Get the big money for him.
41:28You lie.
41:30Oh, yeah.
41:30I couldn't sell him.
41:32No, he's my best mate.
41:38Gorgeous boy.
41:40Do you think these fluff balls
41:42are going to end up
41:43with Chief-style mullets
41:45or will they be slick-haired
41:47like Banjo's litter of pups
41:49that I suspect
41:51are creating havoc?
41:53No, and you stay here.
41:57It's only been 12 weeks
41:58since my last visit
42:00to see Banjo's boisterous bunch.
42:02Is this one of the pups?
42:04It sure is.
42:06This is Indy.
42:07She's the one
42:08that I've kept from the litter.
42:10Wow.
42:11Lots of growing
42:12has been going on.
42:14OK, that's enough licking.
42:16Yeah, she's so much
42:17like her mum, Chilly.
42:19So, Chilly is my husband
42:21Shane's main dog
42:22and she's had two litters before.
42:25All the pups
42:26from both of those litters
42:27have made good working dogs.
42:29So, I knew she would
42:31produce good pups
42:32and we were just seeing
42:33what this man here,
42:34if he was going to be
42:35a good sire or not.
42:38Cute.
42:39Let's go, puppies.
42:41Pop, pop.
42:43Under the watchful eye
42:44of Dad Banjo,
42:46all puppies
42:47started training young.
42:49Come here, fella.
42:50With Nick's success.
42:52Well, you're not
42:53really interested.
42:54You are
42:55a bird.
42:56You don't want
42:57to treat the bird.
42:57Yes, it's been a bit
42:58of a mammoth effort
42:59to get them
43:00to where they are today.
43:03Don't get grumpy.
43:04But, yeah,
43:05very happy.
43:06So, the challenge
43:07is now finding
43:08them all home.
43:09And how have you done that?
43:10So, I never breed
43:11a litter unless
43:12I'm ready for a pup
43:13and I have a list
43:14of people waiting
43:15for pups.
43:16So, four of the pups
43:17have gone out
43:18to homes
43:19over Australia.
43:20I'm Ethan
43:21and this here is Dottie.
43:22This is Smurf,
43:23a daughter of Banjos.
43:25And they've got
43:25fantastic, loving,
43:26working homes.
43:27So, very pleased
43:28with that.
43:29Yeah.
43:29Good boy.
43:31Kim and hubby Shane
43:33are keeping
43:33three of the puppies.
43:35Hey, you're beautiful.
43:36Leaving five power pups
43:38for Kim
43:39to lovingly home.
43:41Given they're
43:41as cute as these guys,
43:43it should not
43:44be a problem.
43:46So, what I've done
43:48is called upon
43:49my fellow participants
43:50to see if they
43:51can find
43:52some beautiful
43:53children
43:54to help
43:55set them up
43:56for success
43:57in the future.
43:58She wants to come
43:59to this spot
44:00all the time.
44:00All of us
44:01have, you know,
44:02had fantastic opportunities
44:03with muster dogs
44:04and, you know,
44:06having great mentors
44:08ourselves.
44:08So, if we could be
44:09mentors for a child,
44:11then, you know,
44:12it's a fantastic way
44:13of being able
44:14to pay it forward.
44:15So, five young people
44:17are about to get
44:19five very special puppies.
44:22What an awesome
44:22opportunity for them.
44:24Would you like to meet
44:25the pup that I'm
44:26going to give
44:26to a special boy
44:27in Victoria?
44:28I would love to.
44:30He's going to make
44:31one kid very happy.
44:33Oh, you are
44:36just beautiful.
44:38Isn't he gorgeous?
44:39Oh, those ears.
44:41Oh, he's a wiggly pup.
44:43We might just
44:44put him down.
44:46There's a lot
44:46of pup there.
44:47Oh, yeah.
44:48Yep, yep.
44:49Absolutely.
44:50Woo!
44:51He did it!
44:53Look at the two
44:54tails, guys.
44:56Synchronised tails.
44:57All right, let's go.
45:00You coming too?
45:01Come on, Ben.
45:02There, come on.
45:06Time to hit the road.
45:09Puppy delivery mission
45:11is go.
45:14Next time...
45:15Speak, speak.
45:17More catch-up news
45:18with our Mustardog
45:19stars.
45:20You do not need
45:21permission if you
45:23want to get out
45:23and change your life.
45:25As Marlene and Hudson
45:27use their current
45:28fame for good.
45:29It's been my platform
45:31and I have loved
45:32this so much.
45:34Pesto come.
45:35Pesto come.
45:36There's still plenty
45:37of fizz in Jack
45:38and Pesto's life.
45:39We're expecting
45:40another child
45:41very soon.
45:43So we're all
45:44getting very...
45:45Thank you very much.
45:46And...
45:47We got a surprise
45:48for you.
45:50Our puppies
45:50are on the road.
45:52Oh my gosh, puppy!
45:54As five lucky
45:55young graziers...
45:56There you go, mate.
45:57Your very first
45:58working dog.
45:59...are handed
45:59bouncing banjo puppies...
46:02You're a gorgeous boy.
46:03You look like
46:03your father.
46:04To be next generation
46:06champs.
46:07Just like Dad.
46:10Look at him.
46:10Settled right down.
46:11Just like his
46:12tiny pesto.
46:13Good luck.
46:15Yeah, best mates.
46:17Oh, yes.
46:19Good boy.
