00:00Burt Breer, very exciting times here for the Patriots.
00:03What are we hearing about the A.J. Brown situation?
00:07I think that this is really in the same place it was a week ago.
00:12We're probably going to keep talking about it.
00:14Okay, I have a thing.
00:17Obviously, if they want to trade him after June 1st,
00:20which is apparently something that's being talked about,
00:23for obviously the draft will be long gone by then,
00:26and you'll be dealing picks in 27.
00:29We know 27 is a better draft.
00:32The Patriots are most likely not going to be picking 31st in the 27 draft.
00:38They're going to be picking 32nd.
00:40Yeah, that's right.
00:41It will be a worse pick.
00:43But let's take a flyer that they don't go back to the Super Bowl.
00:47Oh, all right.
00:48I don't mean to be a negative Nancy,
00:50but only two teams get to go out of the 32.
00:52Let's just assume maybe that doesn't happen.
00:54But in a better draft with a higher pick, right?
00:59A higher pick, yeah.
01:00I don't know because it's technically a lower number, but a higher pick.
01:04Yes.
01:05But a higher pick.
01:06You're picking sooner.
01:07Yeah, if you were looking at the board, it would be higher up on the board.
01:10The higher pick.
01:15It's funny because I'm so dumb.
01:16It just occurred to me the other day.
01:18Like, wait a second.
01:18They trade him in June.
01:20The draft's already happened.
01:21So now we're dealing with it.
01:22Because, you know, the big talk was, of course, for A.J. Brown,
01:25you give up the 31st pick in the draft.
01:27Like, you know.
01:28Is it possible, though, they could have an agreement?
01:30Okay, we'll select this, but we're really picking it for you?
01:34Pick number 31?
01:35That would be complicated because you'd have to, like, work with them on the clock.
01:38It'd be one thing if you had, like, the first overall pick
01:40and you're just picking him for somebody.
01:42It's just so far down the line.
01:45You have no idea.
01:46I mean, the 31st pick, you're going to have no idea who's going to be there.
01:49And look at the Max Crosby situation.
01:51Like, you know, like, if I, we have a, with this deal in theory
01:54and I make this pick for you, that, look, like a draft day,
01:59we've seen drafts, especially in the NBA,
02:02where teams are just taking players for other people
02:04and then the pick goes through.
02:06But, like, I mean, you trust for, like, over a month
02:11to sit there with the, you know, with the kid that you didn't want
02:15under the guise of trading him away.
02:18That doesn't seem like something that would happen.
02:20And then the off-season program, like, it's begun.
02:23And it's just, like, these are complicated things to pull off.
02:27And I think a huge part of it is the situation the Eagles are in
02:32where generally you can restructure and push money forward
02:37and put void years on contracts.
02:40The Eagles have, like, almost run out of people they can restructure.
02:45They're at the point now where they've pushed so much money forward.
02:49I mean, they've got something like $300 million or $400 million
02:54unaccounted for that they've already spent.
02:56That's bad, right?
02:57On the cap, yeah.
02:58So eventually that's going to all come and accelerate onto their cap.
03:02But if you get to the point where you've literally restructured everybody,
03:07then you're pinned in.
03:08And if a bunch of money is going to accelerate on A.J. Brown's contract,
03:12then that's a problem.
03:14I'm not saying they couldn't figure it out before.
03:16Then I think they could.
03:17It would just force them to do more cap gymnastics.
