00:07I'm very excited about people getting their hands on the multiplayer aspect of Uncharted 4
00:12We've already done some beta testing, we've got a lot of people in there playing, giving us feedback, iterating on
00:19it
00:19And it really brings those elements, all the elements we've done from Uncharted
00:23From mystical stuff, to having buddies, to using even those core mechanics like cover-based shooting
00:32And now the introduction of the rope, which is even super fun inside the multiplayer
00:38Already seeing really cool community videos show up of people just doing incredible moves
00:53This was really exciting for us in Uncharted 4 to get our hands on the PlayStation 4
00:58To start with this new hardware and really start to explore what it can do
01:03Right away we saw its potential and its power and it allowed us to do some of the stuff that
01:09you've already seen
01:09Just in terms of the sheer scale and beauty of the world that we have in Uncharted 4
01:16Of course, already, we just finished, but I get excited for still getting more from it
01:23I think it has more to offer
01:26I think we have an incredibly talented programming team in our studio
01:30That never ceases to amaze me in letting us know
01:36Even right up to the end, they would come over and let us know
01:39Hey, you have a little more space if you want to
01:41And sometimes it was just, you know, an emergency to kind of get everything in
01:47Because we were still packing it in, just like we did on the PS3
01:52We were utilizing so much of what it can do
02:16I think Nathan Drake as a man rather than a hero has always been the center of Uncharted
02:23Even from the very first one when we talk about an ordinary man on an extraordinary venture
02:30It's always been important to us that he feel relatable
02:33And when we set out to do Uncharted 4 and tell his final chapter
02:39We had to look at who he was
02:42What we knew about him and how much there was that people didn't know
02:47How much he has even chosen to keep from people
02:51And that was really interesting to us
02:53And to honor some of the things that had happened
02:56Such that we can take this hero slash man slash legend
03:03And at the start of Uncharted 4, he's retired
03:07He's done
03:08He's learned that it's not worth it
03:11It's too risky
03:16But something happens
03:18He learns that his brother is alive
03:20A brother he thought had been dead for a long time
03:23And he hasn't told anybody about this brother
03:26He comes back and the brother not only has information about a treasure
03:30They've been looking together since they were young
03:34But he's also in trouble
03:36So even though he's made that decision of not wanting to risk himself and his people around him
03:45He has to help his brother
03:47And that becomes the start of him getting into this adventure again
03:50And that's kind of what we wanted to explore and look at
03:53What does this cost him?
03:55What does making these choices cost?
03:58That's always been the center of the Uncharted
04:11Well that's something that we've been exploring since Uncharted 3
04:14Actually since almost the beginning
04:15Is really what is the origin of Nathan Drake?
04:19Where does he come from?
04:20Who is he?
04:22What's his background?
04:23What's shaped him to be the man he is?
04:24In some cases we went literal with Uncharted 3
04:27Where you had a chance to look at his childhood
04:29I think you caught glimpses of the story trailer
04:33Where you see him and young Drake and young Sam together
04:36So we're definitely interested in exploring what has shaped him over the years
04:41Because I think that's something very interesting for us
04:43We've always been peeling back the layers of who he is
04:45He's been a very guarded man
04:46He's kept secrets from his friends and his family
04:48So the stories have always been about drawing out some of the secrets
04:53And really seeing what drives him
05:00So PlayStation VR is actually a really interesting technology I think
05:03Just with any other technology
05:05There's going to be a lot of interesting things
05:07Where people are learning the game design
05:09The visual language to it
05:11I think that's something that's going to affect the industry
05:14In terms of how people start thinking about games
05:17And there will definitely be some key learnings that are there
05:20It's something that we have an interest in
05:22And I think there's a few people in the studio that grabbed the various VR platforms
05:26We were excited when Sony brought it by for us
05:28But for us, we've really been focused on the single flat screen of a TV
05:33I think we've done a really great job at getting to the point where players are feeling
05:37The emotions that the characters on screen are feeling
05:40And I think we recognize that that's our strength
05:43And that's something that we're going to continue to focus on
05:55Well, we have thought about going back to, let's say, the more cartoony animated platformers
06:00Back before we ended up embarking on the project that was The Last of Us
06:05We started exploring what would it be like to do a Jack project on PS3
06:11Because a lot of our fans really wanted us to revisit the Jack and Daxter universe
06:14And that was something that we could still develop and we still hold dear
06:18And if you look at the sketches that we'd released then
06:21Something that Naughty Dog has really been pushing for since the first Uncharted
06:26Is having things that are more grounded and feeling more realistic
06:29And the more we iterated on the concepts for Jack in a slightly more realistic way
06:35It didn't feel right, it took away from what made Jack interesting
06:40And if you really think about where we were going with all those, let's say, animated or cartoony platformers
06:47The thing that was really interesting about Jack is, you know, there were voices
06:51You were starting to hear the two characters sort of interact with each other
06:54And I think that was just the genesis of everything that we've been trying to do now
06:57Where you have multiple characters drawing out different facets of the main character's personality
07:04Understanding the motivations of all these characters
07:05So I think, you know, we're looking forward because we're going to do much more
07:10I think those were just our humble beginnings
