00:02Gas prices are climbing fast, and the Iran war is driving the surge.
00:07Drivers are now paying an average of $3.84 a gallon, according to AAA, up nearly a dollar in the
00:14past month.
00:14That's the highest level since September of 2023.
00:18The spike tracks with rising oil prices.
00:21Crude has jumped sharply since the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran,
00:26tightening supply and rattling global markets.
00:28For many drivers, the impact is immediate.
00:31I do a lot of traveling around for my job, so gas is a pretty big deal.
00:37And then I'm going to see my daughter later play softball, which is about an hour and 15 minutes there
00:41and back.
00:42So it's tough right now. These prices are through the roof.
00:48The war has also slowed shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil.
00:55That disruption is pushing prices higher worldwide.
00:58Diesel is also rising, topping $5 a gallon nationally, with some states now over $6.
01:06I would love to see the war end, because I don't know what it's for.
01:10I don't know what happened, what started it.
01:13But I would love to see the gas prices go down, because everyone might not be financially able to meet
01:21the demands of these high prices.
01:23Look at that.
01:24The White House is trying to ease the pressure, including a temporary waiver on shipping rules.
01:30But analysts say it may not move prices very much, with markets focused on what happens next in the Middle
01:36East region.
01:37And for now, drivers are paying the price.
