00:00I'm in Texas filling my tank and it's $3.89 for a gallon of gas. But where you live,
00:05it's probably costing you more. I'm Keaton Peters, an energy reporter at Straight Arrow News. Last
00:10week, the average cost of a gallon of regular in the U.S. hit over $4. It's all happening because
00:17Iran is blocking oil tankers from passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Under normal conditions,
00:23about 20% of the world's oil supplies pass through this strait from countries like Kuwait,
00:28the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq. Almost all of that is off the market now. And even though we're a big
00:35oil producer in the U.S., gasoline prices are still determined by the global market for oil.
00:41But each state still has unique policies and a business environment that determines what you're
00:46going to pay where you live. California has the most expensive gas and the least expensive is in
00:52states like Oklahoma and Kansas. The state with the biggest increase in the past month, that's Utah.
00:58But Florida, you're catching up fast. If you want to see how much you pay at the pump compares to
01:03other states across the U.S., go check out my article at san.com or in the Straight Arrow News
01:09app.
