00:00Gas prices are all over the place right now.
00:03They're finally dropping, but the president says the gas companies have been stealing from you.
00:07So who's really to blame for what you're paying?
00:09Here's what's happening.
00:10As of this video, gas averages around $3.95 a gallon.
00:15Around a month ago, it was $4.55, but Trump says it's not coming down fast enough,
00:20and now the Justice Department is stepping in.
00:23Quick refresher, ever since the conflict between the U.S. and Iran began in February,
00:27the Strait of Hormuz, has been choked off, and that shipping lane carries a huge chunk of the world's oil.
00:33Less oil getting out sent prices up almost a dollar a gallon.
00:37But here's the confusing part.
00:39Oil, the stuff gas is made from, has gotten a lot cheaper this past month,
00:43but the gas you buy at the station hasn't.
00:46Trump posted after midnight on Truth Social that the oil companies are paying less,
00:50but still charging you a lot, and told the Justice Department to investigate.
00:54Now this matters because gas still costs almost a dollar more than before the war,
00:58and families are feeling it.
01:00But here's the catch.
01:01The Strait of Hormuz is still mostly shut, and the peace talks keep hitting snags.
01:06So the war that started it all isn't really over,
01:08which is why some analysts say cracking down on gas stations right now might be jumping the gun.
01:13Treasury Secretary Scott Besant went on Fox News and warned the gas stations directly.
01:18His message?
01:19If you were so quick to raise prices, you'd better be doing this on the way down,
01:23and the president will call out anyone who cheats people.
01:26But experts say this is just how gas works.
01:29When oil gets cheaper, your gas doesn't drop right away,
01:32because the gas at your station was made from oil bought weeks ago when it was still expensive.
01:37Still, the investigation goes forward.
01:39But experts warn gas might not get back to its old price until 2027, no matter who gets blamed.
01:45So what do you think?
01:47Are gas stations price gouging you, or is the president pointing fingers to dodge the blame?
