What do Londoners think/?
Transcript
00:00In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Sadiq Khan has said that rejoining the bloc was inevitable and
00:08suggested that the UK could rejoin without another referendum.
00:12The mayor explained that he saw on a daily basis the damage Brexit had done not just to London, but
00:18to Londoners, including economic, social and cultural harm, and added that US tariffs and the war in Iran had worsened
00:26the cost of living.
00:27Mr Khan stated that facts had changed since Brexit and that the evidence had changed as well.
00:33He added that he believed it was inevitable that at some stage the UK would rejoin the European Union.
00:41So when it comes to Brexit, do Londoners still wish they were in the EU?
00:47I want to rejoin the European Union. Brexit was a disaster and should never have been allowed to happen.
00:55I mean, again, unless I had all kind of the information in front of me, it's hard to tell.
00:59I mean, from a societal perspective, I feel like people have kind of, it's kind of calmed down now.
01:04People aren't so bothered by it.
01:06In terms of, from what I know, in terms of international trade with Europe, there's been kind of like an
01:11impact there with some small businesses suffering really badly in terms of the tariffs.
01:15It's ruined my children's chances of living and working and moving throughout the European Union. That's it.
01:27Myself, personally, I'm fairly impartial to it. I won't say which way I voted, but I feel like we've still
01:33got a good relationship with Europe.
01:36Migration seems to be carefully handled.
01:39And I'm friends with a lot of Europeans in London, so Europeans are still coming to the city, which is
01:43great, into this country, which is really great to see.
01:47Towards the end of 2025, new regulations were introduced, making queues at border control even longer.
01:53So how do Londoners feel about that?
01:56So, I don't know. I think there should be like a proper negotiation between the UK and the European Union
02:01to slash that.
02:02Maybe just respect the Shenzhen song for everyone.
02:06I don't fancy longer queues, but I think you've said it.
02:10It's Brexit, isn't it? We're not part of the European Union.
02:14And that's the penalty for some people voting for it.
02:19I don't see the benefits of Brexit, to be honest. I've still not seen it.
02:22But no, it wouldn't put me off.
02:24I mean, I'll just plan a bit better and queue a bit longer.
02:27So, you know, like you do for buses that come quickly.
02:31The people that have houses there and they can afford to do it, they will do it.
02:36But obviously, it's annoying, you know.
02:39I will try with my passport, my Italian one.
02:41But, you know, I understand, you know, I don't think it's fair until the Shenzhen song should be respected.
02:47Even if we are out of the political system, we're still Europeans at the end of the day.
02:52All of us, including the British.
02:53So, that's how I see it.
