00:00New analysis from the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime shows that London recorded fewer
00:13homicides in the first nine months of 2025 than in any other year since monthly records began in
00:222003. Now between the 1st of January and the 30th of September 2025 there were 70 homicides in the
00:30capital and that's the lowest for that period in more than two decades and a drop of 16% compared
00:36with last year. Last year London saw the fewest homicides of under 25s in over 20 years and this
00:44year the numbers have fallen even further down 50% from last year's record low and the smallest
00:50number of teenage homicides since 2012. Now the London Mayor has said there is still work to do
00:58he recently spoke about this subject at a London Assembly here is what he had to say. Our funding
01:05so far has helped to create more than half a million positive opportunities to divert vulnerable
01:11young Londoners away from criminal gangs and crime and towards training and employment. The good news
01:18is that we know our approach is working. Despite our population rising by more than a million and
01:26austerity from the previous government since 2016 violence with injury is down by 14% homicide is down
01:35by 22% burglary is down by 29% a reduction of nearly 20,000 offences gun crime with a lethal barrel
01:45discharge is down by nearly 50% and compared to last year knife crime is down by 18% personal robbery
01:53is down by 13% and theft from the person is down by 16%. In addition the number of murders in the capital
02:02in the first nine months of this year was the lowest since monthly records began and represents a fall of 58%
02:09compared to 2003. The data also shows progress on knife crime in the year to August of 2025. London saw
02:19over a thousand fewer knife crime offences a seven percent decrease in hospital admissions for knife
02:25injuries among under 25s were also down 10% in the 12 months to June 2025 as well. Now while some politicians
02:35and commentators continue to talk down London the facts tell a different story. Now violence leading
02:43to injury has fallen in all 32 boroughs over the past year as well according to the office for national
02:50statistics people in London are less likely to be victims of violent crime with injury than those in
02:57the rest of England and Wales.
