00:00In today's lesson, I'm going to teach you about the verb have, and I'm going to teach you the difference
00:06between have, has, and had.
00:10We use the verb have to talk about possessions, things that belong to us, relationships, illnesses, and more.
00:21For example, she has black hair.
00:26She doesn't have red hair.
00:30I'm going to teach you when we use have and when we use has.
00:36When we use the verb have in the present tense, we have to conjugate it differently depending on the subject.
00:44We say, I have, you have, we have, they have.
00:51However, with he, she, and it, we say he has, she has, it has.
01:02We use the verb have to talk about possessions or things that belong to us, things we own.
01:11For example, I have a red car.
01:15However, he has a nice computer.
01:19We also use the verb have to talk about family and relationships.
01:31We also use the verb have to talk about illnesses, they have a fever, Jack has a bad cough.
01:41And we use the verb have.
01:44And we use the verb have to talk about body parts.
01:47Spiders have eight legs.
01:50Jessica has long blonde hair.
01:53Now for Jack and Jessica, we have to say has instead of have because Jack is a he and Jessica
02:06is a she.
02:08So when do we use the word had and what's the difference?
02:14Well, in the present tense, we use have or has.
02:20But in the past tense, we use had.
02:24And we use had for all the different subjects.
02:29I had, you had, he had, she had.
02:34So for example, so for example, this is Barb now, and this is Barb as a little girl.
02:43Barb had brown hair.
02:47She had a little dog.
02:50In the past, she had brown hair and a little dog.
02:55But now, Barb has short gray hair.
03:00In the present tense, she has short gray hair.
03:05She has a kind husband.
03:09So we use have or has in the present tense.
03:13And we use had in the past tense.
03:18Now let's talk about the affirmative, negative and interrogative forms of the verb have.
03:24In the affirmative form, I have, you have.
03:30In the negative form, I don't have.
03:34And in the interrogative form, do I have, do you have?
03:41In the affirmative form, he has, she has, it has.
03:47And in the negative form, he doesn't have, she doesn't have.
03:55We don't say, he doesn't has, because doesn't is already conjugated.
04:04And have stays the same.
04:07Does he have?
04:09Does she have?
04:11Does it have?
04:14And in the affirmative form, we have, they have.
04:18We don't have, they don't have.
04:22Do we have, do they have?
04:26So for example, here we have a picture of this family.
04:30They have two children.
04:34They don't have a cat.
04:38The mom has brown hair.
04:41Because the mom is she, she has brown hair.
04:48She doesn't have blonde hair.
04:52She doesn't have blonde hair.
04:56Do they have a dog?
04:59Yes, they do.
05:03Okay, so now we're going to do a practice quiz with have and has.
