00:13In Bukit Rotan, a mosque, a church, a Hindu temple, and a Chinese temple stand side by side.
00:22But this picture of religious harmony is not just symbolic.
00:25It defines the way of life of the people who live in this small town in Selangor.
00:34This year is especially meaningful, especially for the Masjid Anuriya and the Tamil Methodist Church.
00:42Both are celebrating their 100th anniversary.
00:46More than that, devotees of both faiths are observing the fast together, Ramadan for the Muslims and Lent for the
00:53Christians.
00:56For Pastor Ezekiel Raj, this once in 80 years overlap has led to a rare moment of connection.
01:03He was invited to join his Muslim neighbors for Iftar, the Muslim breaking of fasts.
01:11I was fasting at the same time, observing my Lent.
01:15And as I was fasting, I joined together with them.
01:18And I was opening my fasts over there together with them.
01:20So they were shocked to see, are you fasting too?
01:24I said, yeah, we are fasting because we also have this fasting period.
01:26So I said, I'm fasting together.
01:29So when do you break your fasts?
01:31I said way earlier.
01:32But today I chose to break together with you all, to join as a community and share respectful love together.
01:40What began as a surprise turned into an opportunity to talk about faith, fasting and what each tradition means.
01:49So that made a stronger relationship where they began to ask, oh, you have this we didn't know.
01:55So we shared our thoughts towards one another.
01:59And then that was like a strengthening of relationship.
02:03For mosque official, Bazah Marakan, the centennial is not just about how old the mosque is.
02:09It is what Masjid An Nuriya has meant to the people there.
02:13Masjid An Nuriya has been built in 1926.
02:19And this is already been in 2026.
02:22It has been 100 years.
02:24When we were on Ramadan, we were making food to open prayer.
02:30We were able to spread to all the prayer in this area.
02:37On the Monday, on the 28th of the month, we were making the last 100 years.
02:44With a lot of 1,000 people gathered here, we opened prayer together at the place.
02:53In short, the mosque welcomed everyone, not just its own congregation.
03:01We were able to be able to share the relationship with the people of the Chinese and also the people
03:11in India.
03:13We were able to get to the people of the people of the people.
03:15We were able to get to the people of the people of the country and the people of the country.
03:24Raj sees Bukit Rotan as a definition of how well people of different faiths have lived
03:30closely together for generations.
03:33You hear three different sounds.
03:36I hear the temple bell, I hear the azan, and also we have our own set of sound on Sunday
03:45services when we have, we sing songs and all, and we live among all these sounds.
03:51And those sounds really create a sense of closeness rather than hindrances.
03:59For Baza, this fellowship is most evident during Ramadan when people of all religions are welcome
04:05for Bukat Puasa at the mosque.
04:07We have an opportunity to give people who are not Islam.
04:12We have an opportunity to give people who are not Islam.
04:14They are also like FFP.
04:20Even if they are other people, they remember us giving us derma to us, giving us food.
04:37Bukit Rotan has shown that harmony is not built on symbolic gestures alone.
04:42It is shaped by hospitality and willingness to make room for one another.
04:47And in a country where religion is framed more through tension and differences,
04:51we can't help but bow our hands in respect.
04:56As you come this side of the road, you will see the traffic light.
05:01So most of the time, the cast will be standing on the red light.
05:04And when I skim through all these Facebooks, I will see all the pictures that is taken right from here.
05:10And many people are contributing and saying, hey, you look here, you know how harmony is there living.
05:15This is what Malaysia is all about.
05:17Sometimes when you sit there and just see the scene,
05:22that scene speaks louder than all the problems and situations that is going through.
05:27That love, that kindness, that cooperation, that relationship that you talk about,
05:32that speaks deeper about our country, about our people, our tradition and relationship.
05:40More than whatever things that you see that are coming ahead of us.
05:45Here we go and see what is the right one.
05:48That is the right movement.
05:50As a community of these areas of the community,
05:54we are gathered together to make a difference.
05:56That's why we have an identity of our culture.
06:03We are now in a community of our community.
06:04Happy birthday, Eidol Fitri.
06:06We have forgiveness andaming the hearts.
06:09Same.
06:11Danish Roger Reza, FMT.
