Conservative Party chairman Kevin Hollinrake says that the government should "allow our oil and gas industry to start pumping more oil and gas in the North Sea", as well as freeze fuel duty, to help bring down energy bills which have been rising because of the conflict in the Middle East. 00:00I mean, these are big problems, of course, and these affect international markets,
00:03some of which the government have no control over, but it does have control over some things.
00:08I mentioned the cheap power plan.
00:11This would reduce energy prices for households by 20%.
00:15So that's something they can do right now.
00:17They can also freeze fuel duty.
00:19That's due to start going up from September.
00:22So it'd be further pressure at the petrol pumps and diesel pumps, of course.
00:28So those are things they can do.
00:29The other thing they can do is to allow our oil and gas industry to start pumping more oil and
00:36gas in the North Sea right now.
00:38We've seen one of those producers, Ithaca Energy, saying they could do that from the autumn.
00:43These are actions the government can take right now, and they should take those actions.
