Conservative Shadow Minister Helen Whately says that there is a "total lack of action" from the government on energy security and oil and gas supplies. "Instead of supporting oil and gas being extracted from our own industry in the North Sea, the the government has going to crack down on that and completely put a stop to extraction from North Sea, more or less", Report by Keechl. 00:00Well, I understand that the government is concerned about the chaos you might get in airports with lots of flights
00:06being cancelled at the last minute.
00:09And that's horrible if you're going on your family holiday, you know, what you've dreamt and saved up for,
00:14and you suddenly find that instead you're spending 48 hours, you know, on the floor in an airport.
00:19So none of us want to see that to happen.
00:22But my overall problem with what the government is doing, or rather not doing to do with the crisis and
00:27the impact on energy supplies,
00:28is their total lack of action. They're not taking it seriously enough.
00:32For instance, we're due to get a significant increase on fuel duty coming in the autumn.
00:37That's on top of the huge increases people have already seen at the pumps and price of filling up their
00:42vehicle going up so much.
00:44And the government is simply not taking energy security seriously.
00:47Instead of supporting oil and gas being extracted from our own industry in the North Sea,
00:52the government has cracked down on that and completely put a stop to extraction for North Sea, more or less.
00:58They really need to change tack on that. That's very important for energy security.
