00:02Troubling times at the Bowser as the cost of fuel creeps higher.
00:06Very expensive.
00:07And with Easter bearing down on popular southern tourist towns,
00:10operators are feeling the pinch as motorists start to opt out of travelling.
00:15Since the kind of news started covering it,
00:18we probably maybe had 20 to 30 cancellations.
00:22Travellers are keeping a close eye on fuel prices and availability
00:25as they weigh up long trips down south or from interstate.
00:29So a few people that kind of have to re-plan their holiday decisions
00:34and where they're going to go, whether or not they're going to sit tight
00:36and wait it out or if they're going to push forward across to the west.
00:41Recent arrivals to the west are already feeling the sting of high prices.
00:45And the most I paid was $3.20 at Nutterball Roadhouse.
00:49That must have stung.
00:50It did, it did.
00:51I only put enough in there to get me to the next station.
00:54And that's led some locals to change their own travel plans.
00:57We've got a planned trip to Geraldton.
01:00You think that might be too fast and we'll come back to somewhere like Cervantes
01:04or somewhere a bit closer.
01:05Just reduce the cost.
01:06With Easter bookings largely placed before the global price hike of fuel,
01:11tourism operators say they're still expecting good numbers.
01:14But thoughts have already turned to the weeks and months beyond.
01:17Massive impact to come, I think.
01:20At the moment people are adjusting to the fact that fuel prices are going up
01:24and those that are willing to travel around Australia
01:27are really just going to not do it if this continues.
01:30A global issue fueling local concerns.
