00:00I think the most important contractual move that was made
00:04over the last few weeks was getting the extension done
00:09with Laramie Tunsil, getting it done fast.
00:12I think that signing does more than just had him sign.
00:18It changes the mindset.
00:22It makes other people inside that building go,
00:25okay, they're serious about this thing.
00:27But, you know, because we can sit and think how we wish,
00:32but I guarantee there were people wondering what the hell was going on
00:35last year with Terry.
00:37And then when this one comes up and they went and they did it quickly,
00:42I'm sure there are people that go, okay, now we're serious about some things now.
00:47And that's just the way guys in locker rooms think.
00:51We might think they don't pay attention.
00:53They pay attention to every damn thing when it pertains to money
00:57and how you treat the ones in the room.
01:00Agreed with that all the way.
01:02So Laramie Tunsil spoke with the media yesterday.
01:05Laramie doesn't talk a whole heck of a lot.
01:07Like, he'll be polite and you can say what's up to him.
01:10And, you know, what do you say?
01:12Shoot the breeze with Louise.
01:13Shoot the breeze with Louise, tell Ruth the truth.
01:16But there's not a lot of media availabilities with Laramie Tunsil.
01:19And that's something I was made aware of during the trade.
01:24Like, when I talk to people I know in Houston, they're like, he's cool,
01:27but you're not going to get many sound bites there.
01:29So when he talks, especially when he talks coming off the heels
01:32of signing a massive contract extension, it's worth paying attention to.
01:36Jeff, number two, Laramie Tunsil got asked, you know,
01:41was there a level of surprise you were able to get this deal done so fast?
01:47I don't know.
01:47Maybe because I'm a great player.
01:49I don't know.
01:51Maybe.
01:52I don't know.
01:53I guess those guys respect me in the front office.
01:55And, you know, they probably just wanted to get something done quicker
01:59than normally when they didn't want to drag the situation out
02:01and have another, of course, another situation they had with Terry.
02:06Maybe they wanted to get it done fast, quicker than normal
02:10because of that situation maybe.
02:12But I know I'm talking in circles, but that's the only thing I can really think of.
02:17I love the awareness for Tunsil to acknowledge last year this thing was a mess.
02:23The fact that he mentioned that says everything I need to know.
02:28Not only does he know it and was paying attention to it,
02:32it's other people in their locker room, veteran players,
02:34they were probably looking at it as well to see how this thing is going to go.
02:38Because, you know, so many times teams say things like,
02:43he's a this, he's a that, he's a commander.
02:45And when it comes down to it, people go, is he really?
02:50Everybody was paying attention to that.
02:52You know, and they went out and knocked it out of the park by getting it done.
02:57I do.
02:58I agree with you.
02:59There's a small part of me that at least wants to acknowledge
03:02it was also advantageous to their cap
03:04where they were going to be aggressive and shop around.
03:07Truthful.
03:07So, like, it also helps your cap to get that deal done?
03:09It helps your cap, but still.
03:10It's not, the concern about that is fine,
03:13but that visual says a lot.
03:18Here's my question for you, B, because I agree with you.
03:20It does say a lot.
03:23What does it say to Terry?
03:26I think Terry's passed it.
03:29You know, one thing about Terry, Terry's a different dude.
03:31He got his thing done.
03:33He was, when he finally came to the camp, I think he's happy.
03:36He wants to be here.
03:38But you know what, though?
03:39He's a true competitor, which right now is like, I'm going to show you.
03:45So you'll benefit off of what he's going to show you.
03:47But if you go with that again next year, he'll be going somewhere else.
03:50In a heartbeat, which I understand.
03:54You know, once you show me what you think about me,
03:58I'm going to show you what I'm about and what I think about me, too.
04:01And I think that's the ultimate thing.
04:02So, yes, he felt, he may feel a little slighted.
04:09But I think the people inside that locker room know the dude that they battle with.
04:14And I think, ultimately, if you are, hell, like,
04:18I could put myself in a situation.
04:20The way they handled me when I was getting very guilty,
04:22when I left from here.
04:24Did I go into the tank?
04:26Hell, no.
04:27I wanted to show you.
04:29Well, it's interesting.
04:30I mean, there are other veterans.
04:32I asked Adam Peters about this in Indy.
04:34You know, Payne's going into the last year of a deal
04:37without much guaranteed money on it.
04:39And they're like, yeah, we're going to let him play.
04:41Luvu's going into the last year of a deal
04:43without guaranteed money on it.
04:44So, there are other guys that probably did notice.
04:47Yeah.
04:47But the NFL is a meritocracy.
04:51You know why they had to get everything done with Tunsell?
04:54Because he's excellent.
04:55Yeah.
04:56Like, the thing, I mean, it comes down to, like,
04:59the players know what players and where they're ranked
05:03and what they've done for them
05:05and where they rank in this league.
05:07They don't judge everybody the same way.
05:10Okay?
05:11They're not going to judge Luvu like they do a Tunsell.
05:16But still, Luvu now has to take that to himself
05:20and try to figure it out.
05:22But a Terry who had done so much for that team,
05:25those players are looking at that as well.
05:26Girl, hold on now.
05:28This guy has done everything
05:29and has only exceeded his contract.
05:32The stuff he had in front of him
05:34and you treat him like that?
05:36The world's a difference.
05:38Doug, the first Super Bowl,
05:39you and I worked together, Minnesota.
05:41I remember we were standing,
05:42we had just eaten at Ruth Chris
05:45and there were, like, downtown Minnesota,
05:48probably Wednesday, Thursday of Super Bowl week.
05:50So it's starting to get real juicy.
05:52And there was, like, a limo that showed up.
05:54Then there was a Suburban that showed up
05:56and all these people coming in and out.
05:57And then there was one dude
05:58just getting in the little, like, Honda Civic Uber.
06:00And you're like, CJ, there's always somebody bigger,
06:03always somebody lower.
06:04That's just the world, right?
06:05That's it, brother.
06:08I did want to at least hear this one from Tunsil
06:10on how important it was to get this done
06:13and not let it drag on.
06:15Number three, Jeffrey,
06:16just to get the deal done well before training camp,
06:20OTAs, any of that stuff.
06:22Absolutely.
06:23You know, I wanted to get the deal done quick and normal
06:26and for sure get more money in that bank account.
06:30Absolutely.
06:31I wanted to get it done fast.
06:33But no, I'm not serious, no.
06:36Yeah, you know, I wanted to get something done in place,
06:39you know, clear my mind from that
06:40and, you know, focus on training and focus on the team.
06:42You know, I really wanted to see
06:44what we was going to do in free agency.
06:45And I feel like we damn sure made a splash in that aspect.
06:49But again, you know,
06:52thank you, AP, and to the front office
06:53for, you know, getting it done quicker than all.
06:56I love that he wanted to get that money into the bank account.
07:00I want to get interested.
07:01I don't want you getting interested anymore.
07:03One more that's interesting
07:03because I think there was some,
07:06not consensus,
07:07but I think a lot of folks expected Chris Paul
07:09to make some money on the free agency market
07:12and not return.
07:13The market didn't show up for Chris Paul.
07:15He's back.
07:17Laramie Tunsil talking about Chris Paul being back.
07:19Those two manned the left side
07:20for 85% of the games last year.
07:24I was, I was damn,
07:25I was damn happy with us signing Chris Paul back.
07:28Thank God he didn't go to another team.
07:30I know that sounds very selfish of me.
07:34But our next step is continuing to build off of last season.
07:38Me and Chris developed a damn good relationship.
07:42I think it was week three against the Raiders
07:45when we first got to start together.
07:46It just went from there.
07:48But, you know, it was kind of playing next to somebody.
07:50You really don't have to say much to it.
07:51It's just kind of like everything just falls in place.
07:54It's a pass program blocking.
07:56It doesn't matter what it is.
07:57Like, it's easy playing next to him, you know.
08:00And outside of football, you know, just on a personal level,
08:04he's a great guy.
08:05You know, a great human.
08:06And it's also a plus to play next to
08:08and having a locker room with us.
08:11That sort of continuity, we all know there's going to be a change at center.
08:16Yadish is now a charger.
08:18But outside of that, assuming health, like, you got four of your five guys back.
08:23And if it is Alegretti, that's a dude that's been there.
08:26He's been there.
08:27You know what I mean?
08:27Yeah.
08:28So, I do think that is important on the offensive line
08:31to have that level of continuity.
08:34And I think Tunsil's telling the truth.
08:37Like, hell yeah, I'm happy it got done.
08:39Am I a little surprised?
08:40Maybe.
08:40But I think they wanted it to get done.
08:42Yeah.
08:42He's happy.
08:44He's happy that Chris, because players,
08:47the one thing about the offensive line,
08:49what they love is continuity, chemistry.
08:52You put a new guy there,
08:53you get to learn him in practice, training camp.
08:57But you don't know him in the game until you're playing the game with him.
09:12In the time since,
09:14I think they're also really excited that Darnell Stapleton got promoted
09:18to run in that room.
09:19Because he was doing some of that last year.
09:21When it happened, I was thrilled by that,
09:23because you watch the hands-on guys,
09:26and you watch the guys who have the title.
09:31This is no knock.
09:32But last year, when I watched before a game,
09:37Darnell was working the guys out getting them ready.
09:40My man was doing all of his muscular stuff,
09:44up and down the stairs and doing his stretches and his push-ups and all that,
09:48more than he was getting them ready for the game.
09:52And that's just a visual I caught.
09:56Every time I saw him,
09:57he was doing something to get his body right,
10:00and Darnell was doing something to get the players right.
10:03And when they made the move,
10:04I was not shocked by him,
10:06and I was thrilled that he got the chance,
10:07because that's the guy I saw the players always working with.
10:11And coming to the men on the other side,
10:11he was doing something to get done.
10:11And that's what I can do.
10:11And he's going to play with me,
10:11He's going to play with me.
