00:00Mike, we just played your interview prior to you coming on.
00:03We're a clip of your interview with Marcus Freeman,
00:05and he, I don't think at the time, was fully aware that Tony is going to be out.
00:10How do you think they compensate for that, too?
00:12Because Miami, again, at the end of the day here, they do have other players.
00:16Obviously, their running game is going to be an essential part of this football game.
00:20If Miami wants to win this game, in my opinion,
00:22I think they've got to run the ball for over 200 yards.
00:25Notre Dame's front seven is not really going to allow that and has allowed that.
00:29How do you see them compensating and going after Miami with no Malachi Tony?
00:34More pressure, maybe?
00:36Yeah, they'd love to get Mensa off the spot.
00:39That's easier said than done.
00:41Notre Dame's linebackers, historically, as a group in their careers,
00:44this group has nearly 20 career sacks.
00:47This year, they have zero.
00:48They've been a little passive on defense.
00:51The defensive coordinator, Chris Ashe, has been playing more zone than we're used to seeing here.
00:55He's in his second year, you know, former Rutgers coach.
00:58He helped Urban Meyer win a championship in 2014 at Ohio State when he was co-DC.
01:04But I believe Marcus Freeman's sitting in more and more on those defensive meetings.
01:09And, yes, what you bring up, they've got to pressure Mensa.
01:12He gets the ball out so fast, you'll see safety blitzes.
01:15Luke Talich is a better athlete than people realize, kid from Wyoming.
01:19And he's had to step in because I've got to probably go on day one or two of the NFL
01:24draft as soon as next year.
01:25He's been out since the first half against Wisconsin, and that's Briante Johnson.
01:30So they had – and Drake Bowen, two-time captain, middle linebacker, he's now out for the foreseeable future.
01:35His ankle was torn up against Navy, so you won't see him this week.
01:40But the one biggest thing that happens is Leonard Moore won't have to – I believe Leonard Moore, the All
01:46-American, was going to follow Tony everywhere he went, as they did –
01:50Notre Dame did with Makai Lemon in USC a year ago.
01:53And it worked pretty well against USC, but now Moore can just stay on the boundary and shut down basically
01:58one side of the field.
01:59He's most comfortable doing that.
02:01But even there, the injuries, D.J. McKinney is going to play in the NFL, and he's out for the
02:05foreseeable future with an ankle.
02:07So it's been a war of attrition.
02:09It comes down sometimes to schemes, and then, you know, can they get to Mensa?
02:13But both run defenses are so stout, Dan.
02:16I know you said that whoever runs the ball best is probably going to be the one who comes away
02:21winning,
02:22and that's likely true because there are concerns, I think, in pass coverage for both teams.
02:27Yeah, absolutely.
02:28I think this is going to be really one of those games that, you know, I don't know if we're
02:32going to see 31-30 from back in the day here,
02:34but I think we may see a lower-scoring football game because I think the run game is going to
02:39be essential in this ballgame here.
02:41So he's probably not going to travel.
02:43If Malachi Tony was going to be in the game, he was probably going to travel with him.
02:46But, you know, what do you look at this Hurricane team?
02:49What do you see with this King's team without Malachi Tony?
02:52Still formidable guys.
02:53I mean, they've got guys all over the football field, and that offensive line is starting to get better and
02:58better for Miami.
02:59Is the matchup Miami's offense versus Notre Dame's defense in this game on Saturday?
03:06I think it's all three phases.
03:08I think it's all three phases.
03:09I think special teams are going to factor in there at some point, too.
03:12Notre Dame's, again, by the rating system, pro football focus,
03:16and they're not afraid to try fake punts and do crazy stuff, block punts.
03:21I think they could affect the game that way.
03:23I think it's going to be a heck of a game.
03:25Yeah, no, I'm with you.
03:27I think this game is going to come down to last possession,
03:29and whoever has the football last will end up winning this football game.
03:33I think this game is going to be a good game.
