10:42into another battle,

10:43a few things on the screen.

10:49to the strategy,
10:50is that different types
10:51of units have different
10:52strengths than weaknesses.
10:53Melee units are stronger
10:54against ranged, ranged
10:55are stronger against flying,
10:56and so on.
10:57And if we jump
10:58into the formation menu here,
11:00we can see some
11:00of our units
11:01that we can employ,
11:02and all of these
11:03have different strengths
11:04and weaknesses as well.
11:05Like, shy guys
11:05are strong against lackitus,
11:07so there are all kinds
11:08of things that you really
11:09have to keep in mind
11:10if you're going to
11:11be a good captain.
11:12And you want to be
11:13a good captain, I think.
11:15And you can actually
11:16look at the bottom screen here
11:18and see what kind of enemies
11:19you're going to face
11:19at different levels,
11:20and that'll give you
11:21an idea of what the makeup
11:23of your troop should be.
11:24So, for instance,
11:25I've been fighting
11:26with Captain Goomba.
11:27He's kind of my go-to.
11:28I'm a fan of his.
11:29Big fan.
11:29But we also have
11:31other captains
11:32that you can unlock
11:32as you play the game.
11:33Other lesser captains.
11:34Yes, lesser captains.
11:36Captain Shy Guy
11:37is lesser to no Shy Guy.
11:39That's fair.
11:40That's fair.
11:40So we have Captain Shy Guy
11:42here and Captain Boo,
11:43and you can do
11:43whatever you want
11:44with your troops,
11:44but I think it's nice
11:45to have a good,
11:47well-rounded melee squad,
11:49a ranged squad,
11:49and a flying squad.
11:50And then for your fourth one,
11:51you can just go nuts.
11:53So you've built
11:53all of your squads
11:54to specific functions
11:55in this demo.
11:57Absolutely.
11:57And then even
11:58as you encounter
11:59different enemies
12:00and different troops,
12:01you're still going to have
12:01to change it up a bit.
12:03So it's not like
12:03you build these four troops
12:05and then you're set.
12:06You still have to change it up
12:07based on who
12:08you're going to encounter.
12:09But let's go with
12:10Captain Shy Guy,
12:12and he's going to
12:13take down his own.
12:14Oh, no!
12:15Which is only fitting,
12:16I think.
12:17Shy no longer.
12:20And so I'm going
12:21to actually speed
12:22through this cutscene,
12:23not because the dialogue
12:25isn't delightful,
12:26because it is,
12:27but we don't really
12:28want to spoil anything.
12:29But I do want to note
12:31that you can actually,
12:32once you've played
12:33through a level,
12:35I'm sorry.
12:37So distractible.
12:38So distracting.
12:39But once you've played
12:40through a level,
12:40you can actually turn off
12:41cutscenes so that
12:42when you return to it,
12:43you don't have to play
12:44through them again.
12:45So if you want to go back
12:45to grind to get more units
12:48or get more experience points,
12:49get more beans to fortify with,
12:51which I'll touch on
12:51in a second,
12:52then you totally can,
12:53and you don't have to
12:54relive those scenes
12:55if you don't want to.
12:56Oh, you're absolutely
12:57free to.
12:59So you mentioned
12:59the Captain points,
13:01and those are on
13:02the touchscreen,
13:03on the lower screen
13:03of the 3DS.
13:05You can see those
13:06basically like coins,
13:07almost.
13:09Yes, and how you
13:10choose to use them
13:11is really important,
13:12because if you use them
13:13all up in the first
13:14couple of battles,
13:14some scenarios have
13:16up to five battles
13:17before you get to
13:17to the boss,
13:18and if you use them
13:19all up,
13:20you can be in big trouble.
13:21They regenerate slowly
13:22after a battle,
13:23but you really want
13:24to save them
13:25until you really need them.
13:30So we're doing okay here,
13:31so I'm actually going
13:33to use Rally.
13:35Oh, nice.
13:36And this is Shy Guy.
13:37He's going to kind of
13:38be the cheerleader
13:39for the team.
13:40He's going to increase...
13:42Oh, nice.

13:45their minion spirit
13:45so that they're actually
13:46able to pull off
13:47their special skills faster.
13:49And that's a really
13:49expensive skill.
13:50It used up four
13:51of your six points.

13:53And it's only because
13:54I know that I'm a bit
13:55overpowered here
13:56that I can kind of
13:56afford to do this.
13:59But see,
13:59as my minions
14:01do their special skills,
14:02I'm going to have
14:03to help them pull it off
14:04if I want to get
14:04the good ratings.
14:05I love the giant veggies.

14:08was amazing.

14:21our brave Captain Goomba
14:22is after.
14:23If you've played
14:24Superstar Saga,
14:25you know that Bowser
14:26has...
14:26He's going through
14:28some stuff, okay?
14:29He's been separated
14:30from the minions.
14:31And Captain Goomba
14:32is actually trying
14:32to reunite
14:33all of the minions
14:34and get them back together
14:36so that they can
14:37rescue Lord Bowser.
14:38and it's no small feat.
14:40They're going to have
14:40to go up against
14:41all kinds of familiar
14:42enemies, including
14:43the Kooplings
14:45and even Fawful.
14:46So he's got a lot
14:47in his way,
14:49but I believe in him.
14:50He's got Goomba Gumption.
14:51Yes.
14:53Gumption?
14:53Yes, Gumption.
14:54I love the idea
14:55that Bowser's just
14:56going through some stuff.
14:58It's a bit of a rough spell,

15:00in his life.
15:01We all have these times, Bowser.

15:47from doing one of their
15:48special skills.
15:49So that comes in handy.
15:50And as you can see,
15:51it just secured my victory.

16:14super delightful humor
16:16and dialogue and everything,
16:18but I'm going to speed past it
16:19so that you can enjoy it
16:20during the course of the game.
16:22The point I'm kind of obsessing on
16:23is would those flags
16:24stop Mario from stomping on them?
16:26Ooh.
16:27Yeah, one of those in the boot.
16:28That's interesting.
16:28Well, you never see him
16:29go up against Captain Goomba.

16:31I don't think we'll ever know
16:32the answer to this.
16:34I believe that Captain Goomba
16:35could overcome even Mario.

16:39and I'm sticking to it.

16:40All right, so before we go
16:42into another battle,
16:43we're actually going to turn off
16:44cut scenes because it's really handy
16:47and we're going to jump
16:48into the fortify menu.
16:49As you can see,
16:50we've got a whole lot of beans here,
16:51a whole hill of beans even.
16:53And you earn these throughout battle
16:56and you can actually use them
16:57to increase your units of stats
17:00and abilities.
17:01So here I have
17:03a medium melee experience bill.
17:05So I'm going to give that
17:06to this brave Goomba here.
17:07He's fought nobly in my name.
17:10So I'm going to give him a bean
17:11and help his experience.
17:13But you earn these throughout battle
17:16so you don't have to be cheap with them.
17:18But at the same time,
17:19you don't want to give them to a unit
17:21that you're not going to use.
17:22Sure. Yeah.
17:22Reward the strong, punish the weak.
17:24Reward the strong.
17:25Absolutely.
17:25That is the moral of the story.

17:56I was like,
17:58I was not too happy with Mario,
17:59let's say.
18:00I am not really a big fan of his anymore.

18:04Taking a little bit of the glow off him.
18:07I'm just kidding, Mario.
18:08You're great.
18:09Start to see the way he affects
18:10the people around him.
18:11Yeah.
18:12Well, and in Super Mario Odyssey,
18:13he's going to be put in
18:14Walking a Mile in their shoes as well.

18:16He'll learn a thing or two, I think.
18:18He'll grow.
18:18It's going to be a humbling experience

18:29on what level the enemies are at,
18:30because if you're outpowered,

18:35and punched you in the back.

18:48because sometimes if you use that
18:50at the beginning of battle,
18:51it will refill your HP
18:53when you were already full.
18:54That's not very helpful.
18:56So you really have to be smart
18:57about when you use
18:58all of these captain commands.

19:58a whole variety of characters,
20:00not just from Superstar Saga,
20:01but from other of the Mario RPGs
20:03that will make an appearance
20:04in this game,
20:05so keep an eye out for them.

20:09And the Oshis are super excited, yeah.

20:11This is their favorite movie.
20:13They really love watching
20:16this gladiatorial fight take place.
20:19You described it like
20:20they're all hanging out
20:21watching an old war movie

20:23That's what it feels like to me.

20:25they were so bloodthirsty,
20:26but there it is.
