00:04Hello, welcome back to PlayStation Access. My name's Dave and I'm joined today by Holly.
00:09Hello everyone.
00:10And Holly, you're with me today because you've been to play Wolfenstein II, The New Colossus.
00:15Yeah, I have.
00:15Is that right? Did you know what you were getting yourself into?
00:18No, no I did not. I mean, we played the beginning level, which you're seeing now, at E3.
00:24Right.
00:25Which is cool, but this time we got to play this bit and a little bit more, which was nice.
00:29Okay.
00:30But when we arrived, the PR was like, so it's not the final game and the balancing's a bit off.
00:36So you should probably just pick the easiest, you know, difficulty setting.
00:41Yeah.
00:41And I was like, nah bruv, I'll pick one above it.
00:43I think I'll be okay.
00:45Yeah, I was like, look, there's like six or five, I think.
00:48And I was like, well, instead of, I'll go one below the middle.
00:51Yeah.
00:51You know what I mean?
00:52Can't go wrong.
00:53Yeah, can't go wrong.
00:53No, I went wrong.
00:54Like a lot.
00:55And I haven't edited this video.
00:58And while we're doing this video, we're going to discover how many of my epic fails have been left in.
01:04How much editing has Dan had to do?
01:07God bless him, but probably quite a lot.
01:09Now, did you play much of the first game at all?
01:12I did actually, the original, well, I say the original Wolfenstein, but the Wolfenstein that came out on PS4 at
01:17the very, it was kind of at the beginning of PS4's life cycle.
01:20Yeah, the new order.
01:21I genuinely don't think enough people played it.
01:23No, I've got to be honest.
01:24It was, it's weird to say because it's Wolfenstein, which is sort of a massive franchise.
01:28It felt a little bit like a sort of sleeper hit in a way.
01:31It was.
01:32I thought it was absolutely fantastic.
01:34It was very critically acclaimed.
01:36And if you haven't played it, you must go back and play it.
01:39Do you know, Holly, like, do you feel like from what little you've played of the new Colossus that you
01:44needed to play the first game in order to understand the second?
01:47Or can you jump in and, you know, does it lead on very much from the first one?
01:51Yes and no, like, you can literally just get straight into the action.
01:54It explains why you're in a wheelchair, you know, really quite quickly.
01:57The game's got a good idea of, you know, what, you know, why you are where you are.
02:02Can I just stop you and say, oh my God, yes, you're in a wheelchair.
02:05Like, I didn't, I did not, I was not taking this on board.
02:08Yeah, I'm like, I'm completely in a wheelchair at the moment.
02:12We've woken up from a coma, basically, after the end of New Order.
02:17and now I, my U-boat is being invaded and I'm trying to...
02:21You're on a U-boat?
02:22I'm trying to get to all my friends, but I can only do this via the wheelchair.
02:27This is excellent.
02:29And, I mean, this is sort of, well, just standard Wolfenstein, actually, this sort of madness.
02:34I love, I love that he's just wielding, you know, just a weapon in one hand.
02:39He's got to pop it in his lap occasionally, apparently, to maybe go a bit faster or something.
02:44It's amazing.
02:44It's great, it's such a cool idea.
02:47Because, of course, Wolfenstein, you can dual wield, but not whilst you're in a wheelchair, I guess.
02:52Well, not if you want to move around whilst you're in a wheelchair, anyway.
02:54And we'll do some dual wielding, I think, later on as well, so you get to see it.
02:57So this is kind of the new part we got to play.
03:00We obviously, we were introduced a bit more to the story when we were in the wheelchair section.
03:05And now we're a little bit further along.
03:08And we're obviously feeling much better, as you can tell.
03:10Yes, yes.
03:11Because we're walking around.
03:12But this is currently, we're in America.
03:15So you obviously see now the Germans have taken over because this is an alternative universe where the Nazis won.
03:20Yes.
03:21And it's basically setting up the story of what we're doing in that container that I'm carrying.
03:25I'm dressed as a fireman.
03:26But there is a little nuke.
03:28Oh.
03:30FYI.
03:30Sort of the opposite of a fireman, clearly.
03:32Basically.
03:34I thought this whole bit was just so well done.
03:38Wolfenstein, for as much as it's a crazy shooter, does tell stories quite well.
03:43Yeah.
03:43I thought the storytelling was brilliant, actually.
03:45I thought the voice acting in the first game was brilliant.
03:49The characters are all so well sort of fleshed out and brilliantly interesting.
03:55And let's not forget, you know, Wolfenstein made by Bethesda.
03:58Yeah.
03:58They've also made a little game called Fallout.
04:01I mean, a little game.
04:02You know, this sort of...
04:03A little indie.
04:05You might have heard of it.
04:05Yeah, you might have heard of it.
04:06You maybe have picked it up.
04:07So, I guess what I was just trying to say is they've got a lot of experience in this kind
04:11of America.
04:14You know, like this sort of alternate 50s style America.
04:18Because I just thought that that section looked amazing.
04:20Oh, the whole thing is, and God bless Dan.
04:23I think it is Dan who's done the edit.
04:24It's done a really good job of cutting around too much of the story so I don't spoil it for
04:29you.
04:29But I am now inside one of the facilities.
04:34I'm in Area 52.
04:35Okay, the next one up.
04:37Yeah, the next one up.
04:38Brilliant, from the famous one.
04:39And obviously this is where I want to plant my nuke.
04:42So, I tried to go a little bit stealthy.
04:44So, when I started this level, I was able to modify the gun so that it's got a suppressor.
04:49Okay.
04:50Because I was hoping to be like, yeah, gonna go in, so stealth.
04:54Yeah.
04:55Which I then realized I'm playing Wolfenstein, so, you know, good luck, Holly.
04:59But I started off quite well.
05:00I think, actually, I was sort of impressed with the first game that they did let you do a bit
05:05of stealth.
05:05And there were sort of rewards for that.
05:07But, to be honest, I just find whenever I try and do anything stealthily, it works for the first sort
05:12of three guys.
05:13Then it goes wrong.
05:14And then it's just like, I'm going loud now.
05:16And, yeah, I'm dual wielding two shotguns.
05:19Yeah, so, you just saw me bring the wheel up there.
05:22So, when you bring the wheel up on the left, you're then able to bring the wheel up on the
05:26right and then select what you're holding in your other...
05:28Sorry, in the right.
05:29Yeah, you bring the wheel up on the right and then you bring it up on the left.
05:31And then you can select what you're holding in both hands.
05:33Because I'm playing stealth on this bit, I have just carried on with the pistol.
05:37But don't worry, I screw this up royally quite soon.
05:40Oh, look, here I am.
05:41We've missed that bit.
05:41You could have just told us this was your plan all along.
05:44It's like, at this point, I want you to go loud.
05:46I don't know why.
05:47And maybe because I play, I always play, like, Titan classes and stuff like that.
05:50But, God, I love a good melee attack.
05:53It's brutal, isn't it, as well?
05:54It's really, really quite visceral, the combat in Wolfenstein.
05:57There's no pulled punches.
06:00And just, like, look at the sort of fire effects coming off those weapons.
06:04That's the, you know, Wolfenstein's great because they have loads of fun.
06:07With it being an alternate universe, there's loads of fun with, like...
06:10Like, taking the ideas of the sort of crazy, mad science ideas from World War II and just, like...
06:18I used to run with it.
06:19Like, just taking them forwards and thinking, what would happen if those guys had kept making weapons
06:24and, you know, kept developing that idea further and further?
06:27What was that that just attacked you?
06:29Just a giant mechanical Nazi?
06:31Yeah, basically.
06:32And there's also certain robots that are really, really, really quick.
06:37And it just ends up with me, like, doing the whole spray and pray technique, which just didn't work.
06:44Now, I can't tell you how many times I died on this section.
06:48But, apparently, we've omitted a lot of that.
06:52But, yeah, you're meant to come up here.
06:54And I got up here quite sneaky.
06:55And then I alerted people.
06:57And then it was just like, oh, Lord.
06:59It's like I've just ruined it all.
07:01Yeah.
07:01But I did complete it, eventually.
07:04And we got onto the rocket train.
07:07Yes.
07:08Because all trains should be rocket-powered.
07:11Nice.
07:12Love that.
07:12You love seeing the old helmet ping off.
07:14That's what it's all about.
07:15I was like, well, I'll get it now.
07:16In my head, I'm going, there's no way you can one-shot this bloke.
07:18He's massive.
07:19I'll do it anyway.
07:19I'll try anyway.
07:20Because, you know, why not?
07:21A few more shots, but he's down.
07:23I mean, how long were you playing Wolfenstein for?
07:27In total, I played about 90 minutes.
07:29I just think, like, it just speaks a lot about the game.
07:32That we've seen so many different sort of kinds of gameplay and, like, environments already.
07:37I mean, you started on a U-boat in a wheelchair.
07:39Yeah.
07:39You were in sort of 1950s diner America.
07:44Then in a secret base and now on a rocket train.
07:46You know, like, I just think that's sort of Wolfenstein summed up.
07:50It's crazy.
07:52With a shotty.
07:53And exciting.
07:54And just, like, a fantastic movie that you get to play through.
07:59With, like, just incredible shooting mechanics.
08:02Like, crazy weapons and dual wielding and all kinds of stuff.
08:06That's just so satisfying.
08:07Yeah, definitely.
08:08Do you know why you were on a rocket train or where you were heading?
08:11Yeah, I'm heading deeper into the base, basically.
08:13Right.
08:13Like, I know that that's what I was doing.
08:15I'm heading deeper.
08:16I need to plant the nuke in the correct place, basically.
08:19So I'm going to do it by going by this train.
08:21But the best bit about trains, obviously, is small corridors and that Holly gets a shotgun.
08:27That was super cool there.
08:29It looked like you, when you hit that guy in the back, it sort of opened a canister on his
08:34back of fuel.
08:35Yeah, it did.
08:36Which kind of, like, left a little trail.
08:37I feel like you could have lit that and destroyed him a different way.
08:41Yeah, no, it is strange because there's a lot of ways to play it.
08:45So when you are exploring the levels, despite Wolfenstein being just a really cool shooter,
08:49it does give you, like, different paths and ways to play.
08:52And, yeah, you know, I died a couple of times doing something.
08:55I was like, right, come on, I need to find another route in or another route out.
08:58And it's there.
08:59You just have to look.
09:00Even when you're on the train, you can take the top, middle, or the bottom sort of route to get
09:05where you want to be.
09:06I mean, you look at Doom as well.
09:10It's similar.
09:11Like, it's amazing how Bethesda have updated a classic game for the modern age.
09:16But it still feels, like, similar.
09:19You know, like, I love that there are big glowing pickups.
09:23Like, shiny health, you know, just like medikits just dotted around.
09:27And you pick up ammo and stuff like that as well.
09:30It's just, it's, which I think a lot of modern games have kind of done away with.
09:34Or they've tried to be more clever about it.
09:35And Wolfenstein's just like, no, this is like, this is our past.
09:38And it sort of really, just works really, really well.
09:41It's kind of nostalgic.
09:42Now we're dual wielding.
09:43Yes.
09:44Look at these bad boys.
09:46I'm not going to lie.
09:48Dual wielding was kind of scary at first.
09:49I was just like, how do I control two guns?
09:52Yeah.
09:54Mainly because I was having so much fun with the shotgun.
09:56And then I got off the train and realized large open spaces, however much Holly wants to, she can't really
10:01use a shotgun.
10:02Yeah.
10:03But even this bit.
10:05So I first played this bit.
10:07And obviously you can see the top, it's got calling reinforcements.
10:10That's because the commandant for this section is aware that I'm here.
10:15Yes.
10:15So that means I'm going to continuously have waves of enemies.
10:18So actually when I played this after a couple of times, I found like a little vent.
10:22and I crawled through that and that just meant I was sort of circumnavigating a large wave of enemies.
10:27And that just meant I could get where I wanted to be.
10:29In fact, you might even see it in this edit.
10:31But yeah, it just meant I just stopped going forward and just found another route.
10:35Yeah, that's like sort of what we're getting at, I guess, isn't it?
10:38It's sort of Wolfenstein just being deeper than you might think.
10:44It's not just a sort of running around shooty game.
10:48Although it can be like that if you want.
10:49But yeah, like in the first game, and I'm assuming it's sort of a similar or same mechanic,
10:55if you went into an area, there'd be like a higher ranking officer.
10:58And if you could take him out, then you could go loud and not worry about any reinforcements coming.
11:04But if you get spotted before you've taken out that character, then he can sound an alarm.
11:10And as you say, like you can just get into all kinds of hot water with lots of reinforcements coming.
11:14And it's just like, you know, you don't have to play it that way.
11:16Maybe you want to just shoot loads and loads of guys, in which case you're not really bothered.
11:20But if you want, you can have some fun sort of maybe scoping out an area a little bit
11:25or stealthing your way through it a little bit and trying to get that officer
11:28so that you don't have to face these hordes of enemies.
11:33Yeah, so like you can see now that the little circle saying broadcasting alarm has got 58, 59 written in
11:38it.
11:38That is how far I am from the person who is broadcasting.
11:40So it just gives you an idea of like, get them, find them, take them out.
11:45Oh, that was massive.
11:46You know, that was me being a bit of a muppet and firing a grenade too close to my feet.
11:52That is what it is.
11:54I see you've now, you've paired a grenade launcher with a sort of machine gun.
11:59Yeah, happy families.
12:00I like that.
12:01Like an excellent sommelier.
12:03That's like a fine wine.
12:04Might I suggest the grenade launcher with your machine gun?
12:08Oh yes, I think that good choice, madam.
12:10Fantastic choice.
12:12I think you're going to find this guy.
12:14No.
12:14Oh, dogs.
12:15I forgot about the dogs.
12:16Bad doggo.
12:16Vicious.
12:17Bad doggos.
12:18Bad doggos.
12:19Oh, I don't often hear you say that.
12:21That's a bad doggo, Brent.
12:22It was, but I guess, you know, that was particularly bad.
12:25Man, these guys are really imposing, aren't they?
12:27They're so big.
12:28But the way they move and stagger is just, oh, I love it.
12:32Yeah.
12:34Sorry, go on.
12:35No, I was saying this bit now is like one of the biggest waves and it's just before sort
12:39of a final boss.
12:41So, again, wonderful editing because I died quite a lot.
12:45Yes.
12:46I love, I'm loving these robots, by the way.
12:49I didn't.
12:49Oh, they're horrible.
12:50Do they, do they sound robot-y?
12:53Have they got some good robot sounds?
12:54They're just quick.
12:56Like the dogs.
12:57I hate small, quick things in games.
12:59They're always the worst enemies, but always the small, quick ones.
13:02This environment is absolutely fantastic, by the way.
13:05Okay, it looks like we might be getting somewhere here.
13:07Yeah, and I was quite proud of myself.
13:09In the end, I was like, mate, just leg it to where the bomb is.
13:11Yeah.
13:12That's exactly what I did.
13:14It's not, what, not your little fireman's bomb?
13:17No.
13:17All right, we've moved on.
13:18We took it out and then a friend gave us a backpack.
13:21Right.
13:21Because that made more sense than carrying a fire extinguisher.
13:23I think, I think it does.
13:25I couldn't have dual wielded otherwise and that would have been not fun.
13:28So, hopefully, we're going to get to see the boss, right?
13:31I'm excited about this.
13:32Is the boss coming up?
13:33Yeah.
13:35Did it go well with the boss?
13:37I'm guessing from that sound.
13:39It went away.
13:39It went away.
13:41Oh, God.
13:44Yeah, it's a big, it was, I was like, oh, you know what?
13:48Maybe I shouldn't have completely just wasted all of my grenades on, like, mobs and ads.
13:54But here I am with just my machine guns.
13:58Again, Wolfenstein, like, that old school sort of thing where it gives you, you know,
14:03just before this fight would have given you loads of rockets and things.
14:06Like, hint, hint, there's a boss coming.
14:08Well, I got a few and I was like, right, I'm going to, because the ads were grouped,
14:11I was like, I'm going to use that to take out as many of the ads as possible
14:14because they're clearly going to cause me the biggest issue.
14:16Look at this guy.
14:17And it suddenly strikes me that this guy is massive and the game is called New Colossus.
14:23So I don't know what the new Colossus is.
14:25Do you?
14:26I know a little bit, but I'm aware that we've already given away a little bit of story
14:30because of where we are in the game.
14:32And I've had to say a few things.
14:33I don't want to be a complete ass and tell you everything.
14:36We can leave it.
14:37We can leave it alone.
14:38It just suddenly struck me that Colossus means big thing.
14:42It does.
14:42And that guy's big.
14:43So I wonder if there are more in this game.
14:46but it's incredibly just like, hello.
14:51That was a little edit.
14:52Cheeky edit.
14:53Everything went fine.
14:54Is this a second?
14:55Or was it the same one?
14:56No, this is another go.
14:59To which point this is about my fifth go.
15:01I said, mate, leg it to the door.
15:03Yes.
15:04And that worked really, really well.
15:05Pro tip.
15:06You can completely circumnavigate.
15:08I don't know if that's going to be in the final game.
15:10Yeah.
15:11The PR looked at me and was like,
15:13look, just run to the door.
15:14Yeah.
15:15Because what people don't realise is,
15:17I went to play Wolfenstein in the morning.
15:20And actually, when I finished Wolfenstein,
15:22I went straight to Capcom to go capture Street Fighter
15:25for the Street Fighter video that went live
15:27probably a week and a bit ago now when this video goes live.
15:30And I was like, you know when you're playing,
15:31you're like, God, I'm on my fifth attempt at this boss.
15:33And I'm like, I've really got to go, mate.
15:35It's like, we've actually got another group coming in.
15:37Yeah.
15:38He's like, let's just run.
15:39Can I just, I'll just give you a tip.
15:41No.
15:42Bad science, man.
15:44Bad science.
15:44You've been doing some bad science.
15:46Wow.
15:47Oh, my God.
15:48I just love this.
15:50I love the fantasy of it.
15:51It's so cool.
15:52It's so over the top and sort of scary.
15:55And bad robot.
15:57Bad robot.
15:58Everything's bad.
15:59This is great.
16:00Is this some sort of like launch facility, it looks like?
16:03It is.
16:04It is.
16:04So basically, that's kind of what we're now doing.
16:07Are those UFOs?
16:08I mean, they're not UFOs, but they're just, they're styled on them.
16:11It's sort of.
16:12The traditional UFO look.
16:13It gives you some idea of War Room Area 52 as you're playing.
16:16Right.
16:16And that's a sort of futuristic motorbike.
16:19I'm loving all of this.
16:21It's so ridiculous.
16:22Wolfenstein as a game is like, if you haven't played New Order, please play it.
16:25because it is an insane, brutal shooter that is just ridiculous fun to play.
16:31Yeah, it is.
16:31But also has a really good story and even characters that you get to really feel for, which in a
16:38brutal shooter is quite rare.
16:39It's strange.
16:40It's kind of, it's sort of funny and kind of hard hitting and interesting.
16:45There's loads and loads to say about the New Order, and I'm sure it's going to be the same case
16:49with the New Colossus.
16:52So thank you very much for playing, Holly.
16:53I think you did brilliantly well.
16:55Oh, that's very sweet.
