MIC has denied claims by Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan that the veteran Indian-based party has officially joined the opposition coalition.

Its deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said no such decision has been made, stressing that any move away from Barisan Nasional would require a formal vote by the party's Central Working Committee.

00:31He added that a formal letter would be handed to MIC to formalise the move.
00:36MIC pushed back swiftly.
00:39Deputy President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said the party has made no such decision
00:43and that under MIC's own rules, any move to leave Barisan National
00:48would require a formal resolution by the Central Working Committee.
00:52Takiyuddin is scheduled to meet MIC President Tanshri S.A. Vinyaswaran in Kuala Lumpur tonight.
