00:00There is a sharp contradiction at the centre of Malaysian politics today.
00:04Perikatan National says MIC has joined its coalition.
00:08MIC says it has not, and as of tonight, both sides are scheduled to sit down and sort it out.
00:14The confusion began after Perikatan National Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan
00:20announced that the coalition had officially accepted MIC as a component party,
00:25claiming it was offering the veteran Indian-based party a
00:31He added that a formal letter would be handed to MIC to formalise the move.
00:36MIC pushed back swiftly.
00:39Deputy President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said the party has made no such decision
00:43and that under MIC's own rules, any move to leave Barisan National
00:48would require a formal resolution by the Central Working Committee.
00:52Takiyuddin is scheduled to meet MIC President Tanshri S.A. Vinyaswaran in Kuala Lumpur tonight.
00:58A meeting that could either clarify the situation or deepen it.
01:02Founded in 1946, MIC was part of Barisan National
01:07throughout the coalition's 61 years in federal government,
01:10from independence in 1957 until its historic defeat in 2018.
01:15In the last general election, the party won just two parliamentary seats,
01:19the same number it managed in GE14.
