00:12I wanted to make a rom-com that, you know, was like a modern version of the ones that
00:18I grew up watching, like from the seventies, eighties and nineties, you know, something
00:22that felt like human and popcorn-y at the same time that, you know, was funny and sexy
00:28and joyful. I feel like there's not enough joy in movies right now. So yeah, that was
00:37the aim and like bring back mid-budget movies. The idea came from when I was standing in my
00:45bedroom, having like a panic attack, wondering if I'd ever work again. And my vows that my
00:51wife and I wrote to each other are, we had them calligraphed and they're on our wall.
00:55And I was like, these vows are pretty good. Like maybe if the, you know, movie making
01:00stuff doesn't work out, I could just make people give me money and I'll write their vows.
01:05I think that what we live in this weird age of weddings, you know, uh, being these massive
01:11productions and everything is kind of outsourced in a wedding, you know, hair, makeup, food,
01:17everything. And so like the vows are part of the performance of a wedding to some people,
01:22I would imagine. Um, and not everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves. And so it
01:28feels like an interesting idea to, you know, have someone kind of voice your romantic ideas
01:35for you.
01:36Yeah. I mean, I think, I think weddings are for everyone, but the people getting married
01:44you, um, in my experience, um, mine also was on a reality show spoken like a divorcee. Um,
01:52but yeah, I think, I think I resonated with that, with that theme when I read the script. Um,
01:58especially, I just gotten out of a crazy divorce. Um, um, no, but I think, I think there was something
02:08that was, um, it, it was joyful, but there was also something very kind of nihilistic about this,
02:15this movie that drew me to it.
02:17Oh, I credit Joey. Joey just directed me, um, to do that because I think on the page, um,
02:25you could go at it in a very stereotypical fashion and, and make her just, um, kind of hollow
02:34and, and cruel unnecessarily. And, um, and Joey was like, no, she's a human being with a heart
02:41pumping in her chest. And so I tried to ground her in that she just loves this man so much.
02:46That's really, she wants to be right for him. Um, and she wants to be able to express herself and
02:52she can't, you know, not all of us are gifted with that, that ability. Uh, and, and so suddenly
02:59she's not a villain or anything. She's just someone that's flawed, you know, and trying to
03:04navigate life like everyone else. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think that there are like, there are stock
03:11types that all of these characters could have been right. But the hope was to make them all
03:17dimensional, relatable, real, like nuanced people. I think a lot of the conversations I had with Joey
03:24is, was exploring, um, kind of the what ifs of past relationships. And, um, obviously there's
03:33always going to be questions in regards to, you know, is this the right person for me? Um,
03:38what if I went this way or that way, if I chose a different path and, and yeah, I think
03:42we just
03:43confided in one another, a lot of personal things and, um, just explored those feelings
03:48a bit and, and kind of tacked on those layers to try to try and make it more real and
03:53not
03:54like, uh, he's necessarily cheating on somebody, but just like trying to explore past feelings
03:59essentially. Um, and yeah, Joey helped me out a lot with that. Yeah.
04:04What I thought was so interesting about Tilda and what Joey crafted so beautifully in the script
04:10was like, she's not a one dimensional person. Like she could just be like the classic party girl,
04:16but really kind of like me weirdly, she also is a massive romantic and is in love with love.
04:24And I thought that was what was so beautiful about what Joey created is that she wasn't this
04:29one dimensional person that was just like the crazy party girl. She really loves her husband and
04:34loves being married. And like, you wouldn't necessarily see that like if on like the cover
04:40page of her, but she was both of those things. And I thought was so fun to get to play
04:45both of,
04:46because that's honestly how I am. Like I may seem like a crazy fucking book, excuse me, crazy,
04:52like book smart, GG gal. But like, I have two kids and I'm married and I really dig my husband
04:57in and I have like a really lovely marriage. And it's so cool that he wrote a character that
05:03is like a whole human like that. Cause there's, it's usually one or the other. It's like either
05:08like the romantic girl that's like kind of boring or the party girl that's crazy. And this character
05:13was both. And that was so fun to get to play. Thank you, Joey. Nuance is dope. Bring back nuance,
05:20honey. Let's go. Yeah. I think that like Billy was saying, that was also a relatable thing as well.
05:27I think people have a perception of me that maybe likes to be single and have fun, but I also
05:34love
05:34love. And I also secretly got engaged. And, uh, but, but I think what I love so much about Joey's
05:42writing of it and what we talked about it is like, we wanted to play against the stereotype of it.
05:46We
05:46didn't want to play the gay best friend that we've seen in every, you know, rom-com, like, you know,
05:52the one that's, we wanted to kind of play the antithesis of that. And I think we talked about
05:57that and having him be like the gayest thing about him was that he had sex with men. Um,
06:03and in other senses, he is like a traditional playboy, you know? Um, and so having that arc
06:10with him and having, uh, a character, you know, have a secret is so much fun to play and having,
06:16you know, great writing and, and having a director that allows you to, to go against the, the, the
06:23norm and want to, you know, have nuances is a dream. So thanks Joey again. Nuance for present.
06:29Yeah.
