00:03I don't think I'm a villain. I don't think the father is a villain. I think in a lot of
00:08ways, I come from a place of love with it, but I also have a certainty that I'm right. And
00:12sometimes when you're right, you have to force even the people you love to choose the right path. And that
00:21creates discord.
00:23And we really explore a family that's held together by love and fear, which oftentimes families are.
00:31See, we don't have to do a lot of work. He talks like that all the fucking time.
00:35We are creeping toward the edge.
00:38When you watch these scenes as a player, you can't turn away. It's terrifying. It's spooky. It's horrific. But at
00:45the same time, there's something relatable at some level to him.
00:51We had to make it plausible that any one of the team members could be taken and brought into this
00:56cult. And watching you act, it just gives you goosebumps when you see it.
01:01You know, this is the thing. I'm weird. I'm not going to, like, in real life, I'm a great dad.
01:06I bake cupcakes. And I also play monsters. Like, there is a dark current that runs through me. And I
01:12have found...
01:13But you need that. You do need that.
01:15If you're going to make a character that's real, it can't just be painted with one brush, right? You've got
01:19to have somebody who understands the concept of love and understands all the things that come with it. And also
01:24understands the concept of darkness.
01:26There was some dark moments that happened that were just...
01:30I can think of one right now that...
01:31Yeah, that's what I'm thinking of, too. And it's just... It was... Like, the worst thing in me came out
01:37and we were able to catch it and ride that wave.
01:40I remember watching you. You were like a panther going back and forth because you knew something special was going
01:45to happen and you were building up all this stuff.
01:46That is the world that you've built.
01:48Every once in a while in Toronto, a train goes by. No matter what you're doing, whatever you're shooting, it
01:52has to stop because it's a train.
01:54And so we knew that it might be coming and you were in the mood to be able to just
01:58nail this.
01:59And you sat down and we just... It was two minutes long and it was absolute gold. We captured absolute
02:06gold in that moment.
02:06And all I was thinking the whole time was, no fucking train, no fucking train, no fucking train, no fucking
02:10train.
02:11And there was no fucking train.
02:12No, there's no train.
02:13God would not allow the train to interrupt that take.
02:17It was powerful.
02:21We put our heart and souls into the game to be able to say, look, there's all this stuff you
02:27can do.
02:27There's all these emotional moments you can have.
02:29But at the same time, we want the players to play it the way they want.
02:32And if they want to snack on one thing that's a story or snack on just going out in the
02:37world and blowing shit up, they can.
02:38Those yee-haw moments.
02:40Exactly.
02:40There's a lot of yee-haw in that game.
02:41Play it the way you want to play.
02:43Right?
02:43So that's what we want.
02:44We just want them to play it the way they want to play.
02:46And join the cult.
02:48That's what we really want.
02:51God will not let them take me.
