00:01text on michigan state's draw their region they're the three seed in the east
00:06gonna play four o'clock on thursday against north dakota state they've got duke as the overall
00:11one seed yukon is there two kansas is at four and st john's and rick patino are the five seed
00:18text says are we going to pay attention to how people are playing or just look at their names
00:22yukon and kansas are playing like garbage st john's has no offense state's not good so they
00:28won't make it to the second weekend but this is not the region of doom now this is disagree with
00:34that not the region of doom duke has injuries yukon's been off for two or three weeks going
00:39seven and four in their last 11 kansas and st john's are consistent are inconsistent this is
00:45the bracket of inconsistencies if msu shoots well they have a shot if not there'll be an early exit
00:53michigan state's defense is probably their strength here and i would tell you
00:58they have the fifth best defense in the region like statistically ken palm has them fifth in this
01:05region defensively if you want to say there's no great offenses fine but you got to win a whole
01:10bunch of street fights that's not ideal which they can though i mean i don't disagree i mean you look
01:17at
01:17yukon and and and and part of it might be just denny hurley's coaching style like there's no one that
01:24gets on his team i mean i know izzo gets on individual guys but at this time of the year
01:30it
01:30feels like he is more getting them to play together and and and he's not harping on his guys in
01:39tournament
01:40games whereas danny hurley like it almost feels like he's one that can self-implode sure guys i don't
01:49see how national pundits think msu will make the final four at all it's an obvious one and done
01:54team another says i'd argue my spartans have the worst team and coach of the five top seeds in the
02:00region you don't want to call it the the region the doom you can call it what you want to
02:08call it
02:09i do think it's a tough road for msu by the way they play at four o'clock yeah in
02:15buffalo
02:17while mike and rico are live on the air
02:22instant reaction statler and wardle yeah the two guys from the muppets yeah oh
02:28the two old guys yeah up in the balcony yes those are my favorite muppets you can't ruin that for
02:33me
02:35i just pictured that's them watching the game like trying to do a radio show while this game is also
02:39happening that's a great comparison four o'clock middle of their show smack dab into spartan hoops
02:47now i can't unsee it
02:51that's funny all right on to michigan they're the one seed in the midwest john i think this region
02:55is far more favorable it is and there's there's still landmines you talk about texas tech and the
03:01way they're playing right now alabama um with their offense and you know i mean it's it's what we're
03:08gonna have we'll hear the stories about nate oats and all those different things yeah it's romulus
03:12high school coach um and then you look at the bottom part of the bracket where it's virginia
03:19and kentucky i don't think anybody is sitting there worried about kentucky this year but virginia and
03:23iowa state iowa state is that team where i thought that they were going to they're going to find their
03:29themselves a way into a one seed for most of the year they played that way now like we were
03:36talking
03:36about whether it's you know uconn not playing well in the final two weeks of the season iowa state's
03:42kind of been that team where they they had a lot of things going for them up until about two
03:47weeks
03:47ago and then it's didn't derail but they're not playing the same as they were very similar to
03:54michigan so when i look at the region you'll focus on the two and the three iowa state virginia
03:59good defenses you have tennessee rick barnes teams always play defense those rick barnes teams always
04:05lose yeah that's true too those aren't the teams i would focus on so for michigan i think they're
04:10more vulnerable to a team that just gets unbelievably hot and shoots the lights out it's how wisconsin
04:15beat them once nearly beat them twice in the big 10 tournament so i look at bama who's the number
04:21one points per game team in the country the number one pace of any tournament team they will run
04:27and gun and shoot if they go white hot supernova on any given day they could beat anybody including
04:32michigan who by the way scuffle a little bit since they uh suffer that injury to lj case on
04:37sure they're four and one but three of those wins are by four or fewer points so a team goes
04:44insanely hot and all of a sudden your season ends prematurely that's the landmine you step on it and
04:50boom you get blown up texas tech i think they're sneaky people are going to overlook them because
04:57their best player is not playing topping is out they're fifth in the country in three pointers
05:04made per game fifth in the country in three point percentage they beat arizona and duke two other
05:11one seeds but you're going to say jim they had topping okay how about going to iowa state and winning
05:16without topping so again i'm not going to pick texas tech to beat michigan at all i am going to
05:23label
05:23them a landmine because that is the type of team where this dude can't miss we put a hand in
05:28his
05:28face and he hit a step back and all of a sudden you're sweating out a game you never should
05:33have
05:33been sweating out so i think those are landmines i would put st louis they're going to be a very
05:37trendy when people dig a little deeper into the mid majors they've got um robbie avila yeah we were
05:44robbed of him last year at indiana state he's cream abdul jabbar the big pudgy white guy with
05:50the specs yeah he can shoot he can pass and they put shooters around him they're one of the best
05:55three-point shooting teams in the country so size and threes would be a problem for michigan
06:00i don't think they'll be able to run with michigan no and again michigan should beat all of these
06:04teams but i think there are landmines in this region you mentioned kentucky i'm not going to label
06:09them a landmine and i actually think that might be the mark pope gets fired game if santa clara pulls
06:14off an upset i think it's it's on the table in round one michigan fans you tell us what you're
06:18seeing with your team i know on cbs they labeled you vulnerable i don't know if you feel that way
06:23or if there's a team that worries you most 248-539-9797 i think when you go into the tournament
06:29if
06:29you're just watching the way michigan played throughout the course of the year and i mean hey the the
06:34the huge win they had at the beginning of the year over gonzaga and some of the astronomical numbers
06:41and spreads that they were putting up against some of these others really good teams we didn't see
06:47that at the end of the year and it wasn't just the lj case on injury it was even before
06:53that now that
06:53didn't help but obviously but there it's it's i think it's twofold it's other teams when you have
07:03that bullseye on your back they're playing with no care in the world they are throwing everything
07:08at you anything that sticks because if they lose they're supposed to yeah but how is that different
07:13than the tournament it's going to be the same thing and so i mean umbc they're going to be
07:18chucking up every three they possibly can if they beat howard we didn't mention them by the way yeah
07:24there's a world where michigan and yeah you're a troll if you bring it up but we all thought about
07:27it
07:27there's a world where michigan plays umbc oh i i've 100 thought about it as soon as
07:33umbc won their conference tournament i instantly thought they're playing michigan i just know it
07:39after what they did against virginia that 16 knocking off a one i'm like that they're gonna
07:44it's just gonna happen and it did well as long as they beat howard they're in a play-in game
07:50they're
07:51in a play-in game 248-539-97-97 what do you think the ceiling is for michigan national title
07:57i think they're one of the best teams in the country they only lost three games we know what
08:02they can do they can score a million points i think the strength of their team though is that
08:06length on defense yeah it was bizarrely absent against purdue on sunday but i think you know
08:14we've watched enough of them this season that's a really tough matchup for most teams what was
08:18bizarre in that purdue game was michigan was able to get their two bigs in foul trouble
08:22and it happened quick at the end of the first half there and then it was like they didn't
08:28they didn't capitalize on it and then they come out the beginning of the second half and purdue is
08:33is white hot as you mentioned uh you know you play a team that gets white hot like a texas
08:37tech
08:37now all of a sudden a how do you stop that team how do you how do you not go
08:43in the tank i don't
08:44say go in the tank but go cold yourself at the same time yeah it was weird like they were
08:49getting
08:49the switches and the matchups they wanted normally switching has been a strength of michigan's
08:53defense but who is the like ogre looking guy for purdue cluff cluff yeah yeah this guy's making
08:59everything he's just big and burly and he was finishing at the rim yeah did you hear his path
09:04to purdue he played like six different schools and we was at a jc he had actually played against
09:09the actual lendeborg three different times look i i believe it i believe he probably spent 10
09:16years in the mines too i have no idea where they got this guy no lucy's on obviously on campus
09:20there
09:20in west lafayette and i'm like have you seen this guy on campus he looks like he's 30 years old
09:24she give you a hard time about that game she fortunately didn't i was giving her a hard time
09:29when michigan was up a little bit and then all of a sudden the the tables turned and and i
09:33started
09:34working on dinner the ultimate matchup next 97-1
09:37you
