00:03Hi everyone, this is Brian Intahar from Insomniac Games
00:05and I'm here in beautiful New York City
00:07to show you some of my favorite places
00:09not only in the real New York City
00:10but also in the game
00:24We wanted to create a New York City
00:26that felt believable, felt real
00:29and a lot of that also includes
00:31taking some of the most iconic landmarks in the city
00:34such as the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building
00:36and putting those in the game
00:38put it in the location that people will be familiar with
00:40so if they come to the city they know
00:41oh, the Chrysler Building is roughly here
00:43the Empire State Building is roughly there
00:44but from a gameplay standpoint
00:46those buildings are so tall
00:47that when you're Spider-Man
00:48the first thing you want to do is find those buildings
00:50go on top of them
00:51and then, you know, dive off and use your web
01:03so much of New York City is, you know, each district
01:06each bureau feels very different and distinct
01:08and we wanted, you know, have all areas of the city represented
01:11and Chinatown just felt like
01:13from, you know, the architecture to the signage
01:15to the storefronts
01:16it just felt very iconic
01:17what better place to kind of start the game off than there
01:20that's where obviously the feast shelter is
01:22that's one of the main spots in the game that you go visit
01:24May works there
01:25Martin Lee obviously started the feast shelter
01:27so we just made a lot of sense that
01:28that would be one of the first areas
01:30that you'd really go out and explore
01:34so I think when you think of New York City
01:36obviously you have an amazing architecture
01:38you have all these different neighborhoods
01:40but the heartbeat of the city really is its people
01:42and we wanted to have a city that felt alive
01:46living, breathing
01:46and that had a relationship with Spider-Man
01:48and the great thing is that Spider-Man can actually interact with them
01:51you can give them high fives
01:52you can take selfies with them
01:54and the great thing is they'll even point out things that you can do in the world
01:59you know, when you think of a Spider-Man game
02:02you think of New York City
02:03you think of all the tall buildings from swinging through
02:05but there's a very big park known as Central Park
02:08in the city
02:09it's very iconic
02:10people know about it
02:11and it's probably not the easiest place to swing around in
02:15but we also wanted to explore it
02:18see what we could come up with
02:19so there are missions and quests and activities
02:21that actually take place specifically in Central Park
02:23that will definitely challenge your traversal skills
02:26and there's some really fun stories that happen within that space
02:31so when it came to graffiti
02:33obviously that's another major characteristic of the city
02:36you know, it's a form of expression
02:37a form of art
02:37and not only did we consult actual, you know, real graffiti artists
02:42from New York City
02:43whether we were doing it right
02:43because we wanted to be authentic to it
02:45we took that experience
02:46we even had some of our own team members creating different types of graffiti
02:50some of itches
02:51very much inspired by Marvel characters and lore
02:54and Jane Jonah Jameson looking like a baby
02:59obviously one of our major goals was to create a believable realistic looking New York City
03:03but also we wanted to give it a Marvel feel
03:05we wanted it to be a Marvel New York City
03:07so we were able to put a bunch of different iconic Marvel landmarks in the game
03:12whether it's Avengers Tower
03:13or the Sanctum Sanctorum
03:15the Wakandan Embassy
03:16and so many more of that
03:17if you do look around
03:17you're going to see a lot of fun Marvel Easter eggs
03:22so when you think of New York City
03:24Times Square is definitely one of the first spots you think about
03:26everybody wants to go there when they're first there
03:28it's just, it's such an electric energetic spot in the city
03:31and whether it's, you know, all the billboards and the people
03:33and the, you know, the theater
03:35and it just is one of those things that just really helps
03:38and capture what New York City is all about
03:41and what's great is that you see it
03:42at various times of the game
03:44literally the first mission of the game
03:45takes you through Times Square
03:46and you're actually fighting within Times Square
03:48and as the game goes on
03:49you can kind of see how Times Square evolves
03:51and you'll see it at different times of day
03:52and you'll see it at different points in the story
03:54so the Times Square that you see at the very beginning of the game
03:57will be very different from the one you see at the end
04:00with games today everybody's looking for
04:02believable realistic worlds that are fun to explore
04:04and, you know, when it came to someone like Times Square
04:06you want those, you want those neon lights
04:08you want those big energetic billboards
04:10you want, you want to feel like
04:11almost when you're above it
04:13it almost feels blinding
04:14because it feels like a big light source
04:16like it almost is like
04:17what's down there? I want to go explore it
04:18so it's just really cool to see it from a Spider-Man's perspective
04:35for the players
04:36for the players
