History was made ("Golden" becomes the first K-pop song to win Best Song, Autumn Durald Arkapaw becomes the first women to win best cinematography and Paul Thomas Anderson finally breaks his dry spell and brings home some hardware). And no, Timothée Chalamet
didn't get best actor.

00:00I stand here because of the people that came before me.
00:04Sinners and one battle after another dominated the 98th Academy Awards,
00:08but only one could take home the top honor of the night.
00:11The Oscar goes to...
00:13I'm Tiffany Taylor for The Hollywood Reporter here at the 2026 Oscars,
00:18and we're breaking down the most memorable moments from Hollywood's biggest night.
00:22When host Conan O'Brien kicked off the ceremony with his opening monologue,
00:26he wasted no time before poking fun at Timothee Chalamet's controversial comments about opera and ballet.
00:32Security is extremely tight tonight.
00:34I just gotta mention that, yeah.
00:36I'm told there's concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities.
00:41He was also quick to warn viewers that the night could get political.
00:45There's an alternate Oscars being hosted by Kid Rock.
00:49It's at the Dave & Buster's down the street.
00:51The first award of the evening went to Amy Madigan.
00:54She took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actress for Weapons.
01:01This is great!
01:04And Sean Penn won the award for Best Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another.
01:08But he wasn't present to accept his trophy.
01:10Sean Penn couldn't be here this evening, or didn't want to,
01:13so I'll be accepting the award on his behalf.
01:15Among the night's highlights were two awe-inspiring performances showcasing Sinners...
01:23...and K-pop Demon Hunters.
01:27EJ, Ray Ami, and Audrey Nuna, a.k.a. the singing voices of Huntrix,
01:32lit up the stage with a glowing performance of Golden.
01:35EJ, who was also one of the song's co-writers, gave an emotional speech while accepting the honor.
01:40And I realized, like, the song, this award is about, not about success, it's about resilience.
01:45Another emotional moment came when Sinners cinematographer Autumn Duralt-Arkipa became the first woman to win Best Cinematography.
01:53And I really want all the women in the room to stand up, because I feel like I don't get
01:58here without you guys.
02:03Meanwhile, this year's In Memoriam segment paid tribute to the Hollywood icons we lost over the past year,
02:09including Catherine O'Hara and Diane Keaton, as well as Rob Reiner.
02:13He was honored by his friend and collaborator Billy Crystal.
02:16All we can say is, buddy, what fun we had storming the castle.
02:21As well as numerous other actors who had starred in Reiner's films.
02:25Plus, Robert Redford was remembered with a special performance by Barbara Streisand.
02:37And like O'Brien predicted, things got political multiple times throughout the show,
02:42including when Jimmy Kimmel took the stage.
02:44Oh man, is he going to be mad his wife wasn't nominated for this?
02:48And when presenter Javier Bardem said these words before giving out the award for Best International Feature.
02:55No to war and free Palestine.
02:58There were also some star-studded reunions.
03:01The cast of Bridesmaids assembled, as did two Avengers.
03:04Among the night's big awards, Ryan Coogler won Best Original Screenplay for Sinners.
03:09And Paul Thomas Anderson took home his first Oscar wins for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director for One Battle
03:15After Another.
03:16If you make a guy work hard for one of these, I really appreciate it.
03:21When it came to the final awards of the night, the crowd went wild when Michael B. Jordan won Best
03:26Actor for Sinners.
03:28God is good. God is good.
03:31And Jessie Buckley was overwhelmed with emotion when she heard her name called as this year's Best Actress winner for
03:37Hamnet.
03:37I would like to dedicate this to the beautiful chaos of a mother's heart.
03:43Finally, it was time to hand out the top prize, Best Picture, which went to...
03:48One battle after another.
03:51What a night. You guys, let's have a martini. This is pretty amazing.
03:55Cheers. Thank you very much. Thank you.
