00:00There may be no doubt that the year 2026 may not be a year of good record for some men
00:05and women of the armed forces of Nigeria, AFN as multiple reports and official statements have confirmed that some numbers
00:12of Nigeria soldiers have been killed by Islamic State of West Africa province, ISWAP, since the beginning of this year.
00:20Thus, the multiple reports suggest, more than 180 Nigeria soldiers may have been killed in just 73 days into this
00:29new year 2026, which further indicated that an average of 2-3 soldiers are being killed daily in Nigeria by
00:37the ISWAP terrorists who appeared to have increased the daily offensive attacks on Nigeria soldiers since the US-Israel joint
00:46war against Iran began on February 28, 2026.
00:50Although some close watchers accused the Nigeria military of always downplaying or reporting a very lower numbers of troops casualties,
00:59but, the Nigeria Minister of Defence, General Christopher Moussa stated and confirmed during the week after security chiefs held a
01:07meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tanubu at the presidential villa in Abuja that a lot of Nigeria soldiers has been
01:14lost.
01:14But he insisted that contrary to some reports by the media, the terrorists and bandits are taking more casualties, specifically
01:22stating,
01:22Their commanders are being killed every day, we are sure of victory, and some reports also suggest that the ISWAP
01:29terrorists are increasingly using armed drones for asymmetric warfare and high-end tech like night vision in recent attacks on
01:37military bases in Nigeria with some foreigners joining the Nigeria ISWAP fighters to launch a Ramadan campaign that saw ISWAP
01:46overrunning some military bases in Konduga,
01:48Manic, Manic, Manic, Manic, Manic, Manic, Manic, and Mate areas of Borno State, with local media reports stating approximately 40
01:55soldiers were killed, while ISWAP in a press release claimed to have killed 16 in the initial assault and another
02:0220 in a subsequent suicide bombing.
02:04On March 4, 2026, at least 14 soldiers were reportedly killed during attacks on military bases in Ingosh and other
02:13parts of Borno State, between February 15 and 18, 2026.
02:19Multiple reports confirmed 8 soldiers were killed and 23 injured at a base in Krakawa in the Kakawa local government
02:27area of Borno State, another 6 soldiers were reportedly killed in Buu local government area, earlier in January 2026.
02:35At least 20 soldiers were killed in an attack on a remote base in Malam Fitori, and 8 others were
02:41killed in a separate ambush earlier in the month.
02:44This, former Nigeria presidential candidate in the last concluded general elections in the West Africa country, Peter Obi in awarded
02:53statement during the week, said,
02:55Our nation is clearly under siege, and the scale of insecurity is becoming unbearable spreading widely all over the country,
03:03this week alone in Borno State's Ingosh community, terrorists overpowered soldiers, killing them and several citizens, while abducting more than
03:12100 women and children yet our leaders are silent.
03:16Nigerian army in press release signed and made available on March 14, 2026 by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the media
03:24information officer of Joint Task Force in the North East Code named Operation Hadankai, stated that the ISWAP terrorists even
03:32made an attempt to kill some Nigeria soldiers today at Bita Community in Guoza local government area of Borno State
03:39but they were resisted.
03:40According to the Army Press release, troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadankai, OPHK have once again
03:50demonstrated another superior combat readiness and tactical dominance by successfully thwarted a terrorist infiltration attempt at Bita in Sector 1.
03:58The failed attack occurred when ISWAP terrorists, in a desperate bid to regain the initiative after recent battlefield setbacks, attempted
04:07to infiltrate the troops' location.
04:09Unknown to the terrorists, vigilant OPHK troops had anticipated the move and deliberately prepared a decisive offensive-defensive battle plan.
04:19As the terrorists advanced towards the position, the troops launched coordinated spoiling actions that effectively disrupted the assault formation while
04:27simultaneously maneuvering to cut off the terrorists' withdrawal routes.
04:31The attackers were consequently met with overwhelming resistance and superior firepower, forcing them into a chaotic withdrawal while suffering significant
04:41losses.
04:41This latest defeat represents the third major blow inflicted on the terrorists within the last 24 hours, following their failed
04:50attacks at Banki and Azir Bridge.
04:52These successive setbacks further highlight the continued operational pressure being mounted by the troops of Operation Hadankai across the theater,
05:01which has severely constrained the terrorists' freedom of action and denied them any opportunity to exploit propaganda narratives.
05:08Troops remain firmly in control of all locations and continue to dominate the operational environment with high morale, superior tactical
05:17coordination and sustained offensive action.
05:19The military high command commended the troops for the continuous gallantry and resilience, urging them to sustain the operational tempo.
05:28Peter Obi in the awarded statement titled,
05:31Politics in Front as Insecurity Spreads, said,
05:35Our nation is clearly under siege, and the scale of insecurity is becoming unbearable spreading widely all over the country.
05:42This week alone in Borno states' Ingosh community, terrorists overpowered soldiers, killing them and several citizens, while abducting more than
05:51100 women and children yet our leaders are silent.
05:54The sacrifice of our brave and dedicated soldiers is passed in silence.
05:59I look forward to the day when our fallen soldiers are given the dignified burials they deserve, with their bodies
06:06received and honored by the nation's leaders and political authorities.
06:09From Nasarawa, Kogi and Benowai, residents are screaming that terrorists now flock to their farms and forests, disrupting economic activities,
06:19forcing entire villages to flee in fear.
06:22In Nasarawa's Kodako area alone, 14,318 civilians are now registered as internally displaced persons, IDPs.
06:31In Oyo state, travelers were abducted in the dead of night along the Kishi-Igbeti road, their whereabouts still unknown.
06:39In Ondo state, criminals shot at, abducted and wounded innocent citizens.
06:45And in Kebi state, terrorists are on a rampage, killing officers and citizens, making it the third deadly attack this
06:52month.
06:53The wave of terror has now brazenly crept into our nation's capital.
06:57The attack in Kubwa, Abuja, just this week, about 19 citizens were abducted from their homes, including women and children.
07:07This is yet another grim reminder that insecurity is no longer distant but now a norm.
07:12These are national tragedies happening simultaneously all over our country, claiming the lives of civilians and security operatives alike.
07:20The primary responsibility of any government is to secure the lives and property of its citizens.
07:27Yet, the response from the government in power to all the incidents has been dead silence, as if Nigerian lives
07:34no longer matter.
07:35The ruling class are instead devastatingly more preoccupied with how to snatch, grab, and run away with the next election.
07:43These are not just news items, Nigerians deserve commitment and leadership that puts their safety and welfare first.
07:51It is time to restore security, dignity, and hope to every corner of this nation.
07:57A new Nigeria is possible.
07:59Punch newspaper during the week also reported that, troops of Operation Hadankai have reoccupied a military base,
08:07previously attacked and occupied by terrorists in Ingosh, who was a local government.
08:12Area of Borno State, online Punch on March 5th had reported that the terrorists burned down the base,
08:19dispersed soldiers, and killed an undetermined number of civilians before abducting over 300 residents.
08:26However, in a statement released on Thursday, the media information officer,
08:31Northeast Joint Task Force Operation Hadankai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said troops thwarted the attack and neutralized many insurgents.
08:40The statement which copy is in possession of Aroa Punch read in parts.
08:45Troops of the Nigerian Army under the Joint Task Force Northeast Operation Hadankai have successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on
08:53a military location in Ingosh,
08:55who was a local government area of Borno State, restoring control of the position after a swift counter-offensive.
09:02The terrorists had earlier attacked the location occupied by troops of OPHK on 3 March 2026.
09:10However, reinforcement teams drawn from forward operating base Pulka and 151 Battalion were immediately mobilized to reinforce the position.
09:20The statement added that during the reinforcement operation, the leading mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device,
09:30which damaged two tires.
09:32Undeterred, troops continued the advance to the location, it explained.
09:37The Army colonel further disclosed that, a special reinforcement team led by the Commander 26 Task Force Brigade, Uoza, under
09:46Sector 1 OPHK, Brigadier General Nasruddin Abdullahi,
09:51subsequently arrived at the scene, coordinated a counter-attack and successfully thwarted terrorists, forcing them to withdraw from the area.
09:59During the pursuit and exchange of fire, Sani said the troops recovered three AK-47 rifles and a general-purpose
10:06machine gun barrel from the fleeing terrorists.
10:10Equally, the air component of OPHK rendered heavy air support to the operation and neutralized scores of the terrorists, he
10:18added.
10:18Sani stressed that following the successful reoccupation of the location and subsequent exploitation of the area,
10:25Brigadier General Abdullahi addressed the troops, commending the gallantry and resilience while urging them to sustain aggressive operations in the
10:34area to further degrade terrorist elements operating within the general area.
10:38Troops of OPHK remain resolute in the determination to deny terrorists freedom of action and will continue to conduct aggressive
10:46operations to ensure lasting peace, security and economic stability across the northeast, the Army spokesperson added.
10:54Troops' morale remains high, and operations are ongoing.
10:58The military high command hailed the troops for the gallantry and resilience while urging them to sustain the operational tempo,
11:05he pointed out.
11:07Punch recently reported that the media information officer, Northeast Joint Task Force Operation Haddon Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba,
11:16said troops neutralized several terrorists while responding to multiple coordinated attacks across the state recently.
11:23The terrorists, according to him, attacked the military locations in Delwa, Gonari, Kakawa, and Mainik.
11:30The attacks, which occurred during the night of Sunday, 8, and Monday, 9, of March 2026,
11:38were mounted simultaneously from several directions in an apparent attempt by the terrorists to overwhelm troops' positions.
11:45According to him, the gallant troops, undeterred by the intensity of the assaults and the heavy firepower employed by the
11:52terrorists,
11:53were firm and responded with exceptional determination.
11:56Fighting across multiple fronts, the troops effectively coordinated the defensive actions while reinforcements and the air component of Operation Haddon
12:05Kai provided timely and decisive support during the engagements.
12:09The terrorists were consequently met with overwhelming resistance and were forced into withdrawal after suffering.
12:16Significant casualties from several terrorist bodies left behind, he disclosed further.
12:22The mission, the mission, the mission actually is just for us to review the events.
12:27We came in here to, for the services to brief Mr. President on the current situation on the ground.
12:33You know that there have been series of attacks and the security forces have actually rules to the occasion.
12:39We came here to brief him, for him to have a better understanding of what's going on.
12:43We know sometimes the interpretation, especially through the media, has not been too direct.
12:50We feel we should make, put the record straight, which we have done.
12:54And we're glad that the Mr. President has, has continued to support the armed forces and other security agencies in
13:01fight, in the fight against disurgency.
13:03And our appeal to Nigerians is not to get tired, not to be discouraged, because sometimes when you hear those
13:08news, you think it is just what is happening, but it is not.
13:11It's far from that.
13:12The terrorists, the bandits are taking more casualties.
13:15Their commanders are being killed.
13:16We have lost a number of very, very courageous officers and men, highly regrettable.
13:23But we want to assure Nigerians, it's a commitment we are putting on ground to ensure that Nigeria is safe
13:27and secure.
13:29So, new things, the President has promised more equipment for us to be able to protect the war, and we
13:34are sure of victory.
13:37Just interestingly, you said that Nigerians should not lose hope.
13:41About the case of insecurity these days, it's looking like the more you look, the less you see.
13:47A lot of cases of insecurity still happening, despite the efforts you are putting in.
13:52Where do you think the gap lacks?
13:54Well, like I said, it's war, and you know war comes in and out, and because, again, it's normal with,
14:01it's usual with the terrorists during Ramadan period.
14:04For them, they feel when they die, they are going to have us.
14:05So they are ready to commit any offense or to get killed, because they feel they have reward to do.
14:12But like I said, we have adjusted our strategies.
14:15You can see in the past few days, we've taken over those locations.
14:18We've killed their commanders.
14:19We've taken over their assets.
14:20We'll continue to do more.
14:21And I assure you, Mr. President has approved so many things that are coming on our line, and we're working
14:27together as a team.
14:27You can see all members of the security forces are here to assure Nigerians and to assure Mr. President that
14:33we're on track and we'll succeed.
