00:00One of the most talked about Islamic preachers in Nigeria who have had photographs with people suspected to be terrorists.
00:07Terrorizing villages and communities in the northern part of Nigeria when he visited the suspected terrorists in their camps inside forests on the ground of having peace talk with the armed groups.
00:18Sheikh Ahmed Abu Bakr Mahmoud Goumi has described as a terrorist act the United States, U.S. military action ordered by President Donald Trump that attacked and killed yet to be ascertained total numbers of ISIS-affiliated Lakaroa terrorists in Sokoto State on Christmas Day.
00:36This, the Islamic cleric called on the people in the villages affected by the U.S. missile strikes on Thursday night to post on social media platforms evidences of damages caused by the U.S. military action.
00:50According to Goumi, it is in line with the teachers of Islam for terrorists to be killed, but, the killing must be done by people with the clean and holy hands,
00:59and, not by another terrorist whose hands are stained with the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent children, women, and men just recently,
01:08stressing that, the U.S. involvement in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria will make the country becomes an enemy of its neighbors, a theater of war,
01:18because the involvement will attract the real anti-U.S. forces into the West Africa country, and in a manner that looked like mockery,
01:25Sheikh Goumi said, dropping a few bombs here and there cannot tackle the menace of terror.
01:30They need serious military on the ground, which, if we are serious, we have enough men to do that.
01:37In contrary to Goumi's assertions, the Nigeria government, through the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs,
01:43Yusuf Tugger said it was President Bola Ahmed Tanubu on Thursday that gave the U.S. the approval to carry out the strikes against the terrorists.
01:52But the government's statement apparently did not go down well with Omiele Sawari, a human rights activist and the founder of Sahara Reporters News Media,
02:02who insisted that, it is evident that the strikes were carried out without the genuine authority or informed consent of the weaklings
02:09masquerading as government under Asawaju Bola Ahmed Tanubu, and in a swift reaction to Omiele Sawari,
02:16one of the recently nominated and confirmed ambassador-designate, Reno Omicri said,
02:22I am afraid I will have to disagree with Mr. Omiele Sawari, and others like him,
02:27who are misinforming the Nigerian public that the recent actions against terrorists are proof that Nigeria lacks sovereignty.
02:34Such views are indicative of a lack of awareness of international relations.
02:38It is also wrong for Mr. Sawari to call our government and military weak.
02:42Sheikh Ahmad Abu Bakr Mahmood Gumi in a statement titled,
02:47The Symbolism of the U.S. Strike.
02:49He shared on his verified Facebook account when he reshared the news link of a post published by CNN on Friday,
02:56said, Annihilating terrorists is an Islamic obligation.
03:00The Prophet, peace be upon him wished he annihilated them.
03:04He said, Should I live till they appear, I would kill them as the killing of the nation of,
03:09at, al-Bukhari in Muslim, this said,
03:13It should only be carried out by clean, holy hands,
03:16not by another terrorist whose hands are stained with the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent children,
03:22women, and men just recently.
03:24This is the mistake Nigeria has made.
03:28Terrorists don't fight terrorists in truth.
03:30They may only kill innocent people and have ulterior motives behind the drama of fighting, terror.
03:37As a principle, no nation should allow its land to be a theater of war.
03:42And no nation should allow its neighbors to be their enemies.
03:45If Nigeria wants military assistance,
03:48China, Turkey, and Pakistan can do the job effectively.
03:52The U.S. involvement in Nigeria will attract the real anti-U.S.
03:57Forces, making our land the theater of war,
04:01the U.S.'s involvement in Nigeria,
04:03citing coming to, protect Christians,
04:06will ultimately polarize our nation and infringe on our sovereignty.
04:10Nigeria should halt all military cooperation with the USA
04:14immediately because of its imperial tendencies worldwide
04:17and seek the help of those neutral countries mentioned.
04:20Nigerians are too educated to be played with.
04:24This is going to be a 2027 campaign discourse.
04:28Meanwhile, dropping a few bombs here and there cannot tackle the menace of terror.
04:33They need serious military on the ground,
04:35which, if we are serious, we have enough men to do that.
04:40We call on all villages affected to upload videos and pictures of any casualties involved.
04:45The attacks are symbolic of a harbinger neo-crusade war against Islam.
04:51Attack on Sokoto, where 90% are Muslim with no imminent danger of terror,
04:56while the real threat is in Madaguri and on a Christmas Eve,
04:59with the claim of protecting against Christian genocide, says a lot.
05:04We believe the terror is manufactured and sustained by the same people claiming to fight it.
05:09A word is enough for the wise.
05:12According to Channel's television,
05:14the Nigeria government said President Bola Tanubu gave the go-ahead for the US strikes against terrorists
05:20in the country's northwestern region.
05:23Foreign Affairs Minister, Youssef Tugger, said this on Friday,
05:27hours after the US Department of War and President Donald Trump announced
05:31the North American nation had conducted strikes against the terrorists.
05:35Now that the US is cooperating, we would do it jointly, and we would ensure,
05:41just as the President emphasized yesterday before he gave the go-ahead,
05:45that it must be made clear that it is a joint operation,
05:48and it is not targeting any religion nor simply in the name of one religion or the other,
05:54the minister said on Channel's television Sunrise Daily.
05:57We are a multi-religious country,
05:59and we are working with partners like the US to fight terrorism
06:03and safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians, the minister said.
06:08Some have viewed the strikes as a violation of the country's territorial integrity,
06:12but Tugger says the federal government would not take any actions
06:16that would violate the country's sovereignty.
06:19Omiele Sawari reacted and said,
06:21I have read reports that the United States government launched attacks on Nigerian soil on Christmas Day,
06:27as announced by Donald Trump and the US Secretary of War, Peter Hegseth,
06:32purportedly targeting terrorist groups within Nigeria.
06:36Although the Nigerian government now claims it was aware
06:39and describes the operation as a joint effort with vague, international partners,
06:44it is evident that the strikes were carried out without the genuine authority
06:48or informed consent of the weaklings masquerading as government under Asawaju Bola Ahmed Tanubu.
06:54My position remains unchanged.
06:57Judging by the nature of the confirmed strike on a village in Sokoto,
07:01it is clear that the US president under whose authority this operation occurred
07:05neither understands nor genuinely cares about Nigeria or Nigerians.
07:10It is deeply troubling that Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation,
07:15lacks the capable and sovereign leadership required to protect its people and its territory.
07:19As a result, the country has been reduced to a bystander while its sovereignty is violated
07:25under the direction of US President Donald J. Trump.
07:29I reiterate, only true, tested, and informed leadership can protect Nigerians.
07:35Not imperiled, jaundiced neoconservatives operating from Washington DC.
07:40Reno Omakri in a statement titled,
07:43Addressing Omiele Sawari's statements on Nigeria's sovereignty,
07:46said, I am afraid I will have to disagree with Mr. Omiele Sawari,
07:52and others like him, who are misinforming the Nigerian public that the recent actions against
07:57terrorists are proof that Nigeria lacks sovereignty.
08:01Such views are indicative of a lack of awareness of international relations.
08:06Please fact check me, larger and older nations than Nigeria,
08:10which I would not want to mention out of respect for these countries and the governments,
08:14have asked for and received direct international and foreign military assistance,
08:19intervention, specifically from the United States,
08:22and other countries, when dealing with terrorists operating within their borders,
08:26especially when those belligerents are mobile and have embedded themselves so close to innocent
08:31civilian populations that it would be difficult to use conventional means against them without
08:36harming law-abiding citizens.
08:38While I would not want to identify these nations,
08:42journalists and interested members of the public can use Google or other AI tools to help reveal them.
08:49It is also wrong for Mr. Sawari to call our government and military weak.
08:54For his education, Mr. Sawari may want to know that Nigeria has a better military record than most nations,
09:00and has decisively brought peace and stabilized several countries,
09:04beginning from the Congo in 1960, to Tanzania in 1964, to Lebanon in 1978,
09:11and then via Ecomog in the Mano River region, Liberia, Sierra Leone, etc., between 1991 and 2006.
09:21Our military has also helped restore democratically elected governments in places like
09:26Sao Tomei and Principe and others. When Nigeria's armed forces intervened in those nations,
09:33they did not tamper with or in any way weaken the sovereignty of those countries or the governments.
09:38In fact, we were invited either by the countries themselves, the United Nations, or regional bodies.
09:45The Nigerian armed forces have a sterling military record as a dependable fighting unit.
09:50In fact, due to their superior training, Nigerian military personnel have served as chiefs of army staff
09:58in other nations. However, when you are fighting cowardly terrorists that weave in and out of
10:04civilian populations, you need the help of those with precision targeting capabilities.
10:09What Mr. Sawari and others like him may not be aware of is that no single nation has ever defeated
10:15terror on its own. It takes international effort. Mr. Sawari has himself admitted receiving funding
10:22from multiple U.S. funding agencies. Based on his admission, should that mean he is a foreign puppet,
10:29unfit to aspire to leadership in Nigeria? Of course not. If Omiyele Sawari and others like him have anger
10:36over what has happened, please let it be directed at the terrorists and their sponsors, who have killed
10:42many Nigerians of all faiths and ethnicities and disrupted communities, while preventing honest and
10:47hard-working Nigerians from going about their lawful activities. Projecting anger at anything that will
10:54bring relief and succor to those Nigerians most affected by terror is not patriotic, no matter how much some
11:00try to cloak it in such terms. The priority is to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians by any legal and
11:08moral means necessary and possible. If, indeed, people have any influence at all, that sway should not be
11:16used to cause dissension and turn some Nigerians against their leaders. Rather, it should be used to get
11:22those terrorists to turn a new leaf, drop their weapons, embrace peace, and show fidelity to the Nigerian
11:28flag and constitution. May God bless Nigeria.
